I've heard glowing reviews of this place, and this weekend I finally got to check it out! We went for breakfast and when we got there, there was a line out the door- a good sign, but also a little daunting since we were so hungry. We were given an hour wait time, but it was actually only thirty minutes. The staff was great! We had a large party, but our waitress was on the ball with refills and the like. The food itself was so good. I got the fried chicken and waffles, and the chicken was so tender and juicy on the inside, with the perfect amount of crunch on the outside. Plus, it came with strawberry which added the perfect amount of sweetness to the meal. Another person in my party got the shrimp and grits and it was delicious! The shrimp were cooked to perfection, and the fried grit cakes were the absolute companion. The prices were also spot on for how much food you got. I've been to Metro Diner a few times now and I always return for the chicken and waffles. The chicken and waffles are consistently delicious. The syrup/ hot sauce concoction that they mix together for you is so good!! If you are going to check out Metro Diner, ordering the chicken and waffles is a must. I have tried many different egg dishes and almost all of the sweet breakfast options. They have all been pretty good as well. I suppose the prices are pretty standard for a breakfast diner. The service is always excellent. If you go on the weekend there is almost always a line but it seems to move quickly. Arriving early is always recommend! read more

To start the service was good and I got my food in a reasonable time but there is where the good ends I ordered the Chicken Tenders with fries and cole slaw with creole mustard on the side. The chicken tenders were not tender they were so over cooked that I had to use a knife to cut them they were also dry and the so called creole mustard was not very good either I've had better mustard from supermarkets. Now we come to the cole slaw tasteless and bland and the fries as well plus they were greasy. I used to come to the Metro Diner when they first opened it had a better feel to it than it did today and certainly better food, this location has been going downhill with their food very quickly I will not be recommending this location to anyone except to tell them to not bother to eat there. read more

Metro is our breakfast spot when we visit our kids at Gainesville. It was crowded today, so we sat at the counter. Martin and the kitchen staff put on quite the show in the kitchen. Orders up left and right-- a fine display of southern cooking. Yummy! read more

Decided to check this place out with my family while visiting Gainesville. There were 5 of us. Three adults & 2 young children. We only waited about 10 minutes to be seated on a very busy Saturday afternoon. Our waitress was named Alana. She was very attentive, friendly & knowledgeable. We had shrimp & grits, chicken & waffles, hot turkey dinner & 2 kids grilled cheese sandwiches. The shrimp & grits were not the typical style served but it was phenomenal. The chicken had a crispy skin & was full of flavor. The waffles were also very good. They were served with a strawberry butter that complimented the waffle so well. Very generous portions too. This is a great place to come for breakfast. It's a pretty big area but they do get busy pretty often. I don't have a particularly favorite thing to get from Metro, but I LOVE to have their specials. They always have the most unique specials. I once got a key lime pie stuffed between two waffles. That's something you do not see everywhere and that's the kind of thing that keeps me coming back here. You never know what's gonna be on their specials menu, so why not go and see! If you don't like their specials for the day, you can always order something great from their regular menu since they have a good amount of options, and their food never disappoints. The staff is always friendly and get you your food in a timely manner. All in all, I love Metro, and I'll keep coming back. read more

I was MUCH more impressed with the food and the service this time around. I have to be honest the only reason I came back to Metro Diner was because one of the regional managers contacted me personally because of my previous review and rating due to a not so great experience. SO yes I had a "free meal ticket" if you will, but my new review will still be honest. For my hubby's b-day we decided to try day hours (before noon but after 10) on a weekday because I'm not waiting 45 min to an hr with a line out the door on the weekend to eat here. LOL! Though I was surprised at how busy this place was even on a weekday. Luckily, there was no wait and we were seated quickly in the last cozy booth in the back. Our server was to the table quickly. He was friendly, knowledgeable, and we were never left waiting for the bill or in want of anything at all. (I really wish I could remember his name.) The main reason we came here was (besides my hubby loving breakfast) I wanted to try to the Pittsburgh Sandwich (I've been craving Primanti Bro's ever sine I moved out of Pittsburgh 2 yrs ago.) This sandwich hits my Primanti Bro's "spot" even though it is not exactly the same.(I mean how can you copy a legend? LOL.) Just remember you get a "side" with this sandwich and since the fries come on it, I suggest choosing one of the other options as your side (I totally forgot to do this, dur! and they have some great options.) I did not order this the first time I came here because the server was not really sure about the coleslaw. I am happy to say that this slaw, while not as good a Primanti Bro's, was still very fresh and not totally drenched in mayo. Thank goodness! The breakfast food was also very good, but again I find the prices a little high for eggs, sausage, and toast. And beware that the "side" of sausage biscuits and gravy is $6 and has two biscuits cut in half. It really was a meal, and if I'd noticed I would've have ordered the meal instead of adding it and adding a side of hash-browns for $2.50 because that was basically the price of the meal but I could've gotten the raisin toast with it. Oh well, you live and learn. Regardless, we had more than enough food, stuffed ourselves, and had leftovers. We do plan on returning and trying some other menu items like the meatloaf and pot roast. Oh and if they put actual COD on the menu for the fish and chips I will definitely return more often. Only giving this a 4 stars because prices are still a little high for "diner" food. Our waiter, Chad, lived up to his name every single minute we were at Metro with his outgoing personality and quick but subtle actions (if someone at Metro sees this, seriously, give this man a raise!!) my brother had been at a location in Georgia previously and requested an old menu item that was unfortunately removed a year ago, but Chad had the amazing chefs create a knockoff version of a waffle with their delicious mac and cheese and scrumptious steak tips. I ordered the Holy Davoli; a divine hamburger composed of two grilled cheese sandwiches squishing a delicious burger patty with all the fix-ins. Although it sounds appalling; it was.. interesting! The crunch of the sourdough with the fresh, gooeyness of the American cheese and the moist beef forced me to devour the whole thing. Metro Diner is one hundred percent a go-to chain! Dropped off my son at UF wanted breakfast joint. T his was great choice. Had 25 minute wait on a Sunday morning which was not bad. Waitress was the nicest so points there. I got Yo Hala on the square bananas with brown sugar and cream cheese on huge slice of bread simply said WINNER. My wife got egg Benedict with fried green tomatoes yolk could have been a little more runny but they were so accommodating to a food allergy of hers no points lost and she ate all of it. Finally our son got the Belgian waffle and bacon and did not talk while eating so that was a winner as well. Coffee good and bathrooms clean. Took my boys to one of our favorite places for brunch. My son order the protein breakfast. Grits was watery. He was served 20 mins before our order came. My corn beef hash was terrible very dry no flavor. Poached eggs severed on the side instead of on the hash. Cold. My eye toast had no butter. Looks like I need to find another breakfast restaurant! Since writing my last review I have come 3-4 times. I love it. I have tried many things on the menu, and it has become one of my go-to stops. I mainly go for breakfast or brunch, and it is worth it! I prefer to sit outside, as it gets very loud and busy inside - some don't mind, but I like outside better. The service is always on point, and has gotten much better than my first visit or two. The coffee is always strong and has great flavor. The waffles are great - they have amazing flavored butter, the biscuits and gravy is also very good (not as good as the Top, but close) and I recently tried the breakfast burrito, and it was surprisingly good! Like Yum. If you don't mind the noise, it is also super cool to sit on the bar and watch the food being made, pretty awesome stuff! Overall this place keeps rising up my list. We were here once and it was ok but not great . So we tried again and it was little less then ok. Hush brown cold in middle. U can taste the oil every time u try to eat it. All plate was off.
