OMG...Went with my husband for a lunch treat - even though it was super busy our lunch was fantastic and the service was top notch...WHAT A TREAT...LOVE IT. read more

So so good. Pretty crowded place with a wait at most times. But i would say that it is worth it. Their Huevos Rancheros are absolutely incredible. Highly recommended read more

Metro diner is AMAZING. I love trying all of the things on the menu, but I always go back to the chicken and waffles because they are just amazing!! Literally obsessed with this place. They do get busy at times, but I'm not a morning person so I'm usually there later in the day! Luckily it's open until around 8. I take all of my friends here! read more

We arrived at the store at 7:40pm and the manager on duty stated give her a minute to wipe a table and then she would seat us. We waited and she sat us, however, she sat us in a booth that she just wiped and did not bother to dry. I sat down as did my wife without knowing it was wet or that this was the booth she just wiped. The booth seat was wet enough to put a damp spot on the seat of my pants as well as my wife pants. We were greeted after a few minutes by the server who took our drink order. We ordered our meal, my wife had the sausage gravy, with eggs and home fries and I had the Chipped Beef over home fries. It took our meal quite some time to be prepared. The restaurant had about 5 other tables at the time of our visit. The eggs and home fries for my wife arrived before any of the other items we ordered. My wife started eating and her eggs were very over cooked. She requested the yoke be runny and they were cooked through. My wife decided to eat them anyway. Then her sausage gravy and biscuits came. They were placed on the table and it was nothing more than a clumpy cold mess. My wife and I looked at each other and could not believe the server would actually serve this meal with it looking as it did and he just walked away without saying a word. It appears whoever prepared the Sausage gravy tried to reheat the gravy in a microwave from breakfast earlier that day. The gravy was not hot; it was nothing more than a solid clump of what was once sausage gravy and the cook obviously had no clue about reconstituting gravy to give it the right consistency after being chilled. The server then brought my plate and was informed of the issues with the plate my wife received. He then took her plate and took it to the manager on duty that had sat us. She took the plate and then appeared in the kitchen. I watched her get a pot, and then prepare the meal the proper way on the stove instead of the microwave. By this time I had started eating my meal only to find that my Chipped Beef was just as cold as her plate was with the one exception and that was my home fries were very hot. The Beef had no taste at all and lacked any seasoning and was cold to the touch. My wife plate returned about 10 minutes later and she was presented with a large bowl of hot fresh sausage gravy just as we would have expected to see when we ordered it the first time. This time around the gravy was actually gravy and not a cold solid clump of what was supposed to be sausage gravy. I then advised the server of my issue with my plate and he said sorry and started to walk away. I then said I was not eating this food cold and would appreciate speaking to the manager. He turned around and took my plate but we did not see the manager as requested. I then see the manager again in the kitchen redoing my plate as she did my wife as I saw what had to be 5-6 cooks on the line. About 10 or so minutes later I saw my food was put on the hotplate and the server went over to bring it to me. He grabbed the plate and I saw gravy dripping off the plate onto the floor. He then placed another plate under the plate with the food and gravy continued to drip all over the floor from the edges of the plate. He places my food in front of me whole gravy continued to drip on the table. My meal was hot this time around but the plate was a complete mess. Gravy was running off the edges of the plate, onto the table and all over the place mate. It was a disaster to say the least and I didn't have near enough napkins to keep the mess cleaned up. I did not mention it to the server because it should have been more than obvious but it was not to him and because it had already taken an hour just trying to get hot food. Our drinks stayed empty most of our meal and we literally had to ask for refills every time. We asked a female server taking care of the table behind us a couple of time for refills because our server was either outside or in the back. She would never get the drinks for us she would just tell our server our request and sometimes we got the refills requested but other times we did not. I am very disappointed in the manner in which our food was prepared and allowed to be presented to us. Cold and unappetizing to say the least and I didn't even eat a quarter of my meal. I am not sure what the issue was in the restaurant last night but it appeared leadership was lacking significantly and it was more than obvious by the food the procedures and standards were not being followed since food was allowed to leave the kitchen that was not edible. No one ever said they were sorry, the manager never came back to check on us and we were handed our check right after the remake of my food was delivered and said here is the check. We ate our meal by pieces last night since it all had came out at different times. We also know never to order breakfast for dinner at Metro Diner again for all the reasons mentioned above. read more

First time at the Gainesville location and we were quite impressed. Interesting take on shrimp and grits, but it works! It reminds me of those old-timey diners with the paper placemats, and yet the atmosphere isn't stale and aged like a lot of those places are. Great management, friendly service and delicious menu options! We'll definitely be back. :) read more

Just your simple diner in the community. I don't really have much to say about the food. It was okay. However, the customer service was really great. Our group came in about 30 mins before closing time but they were very welcoming. read more

Very good breakfast. Many options. Twists on old favorites. Super service. Friendly staff.

Metro Diner has a great menu, fantastic food and great service. From the outside, it doesn't look that great. It is in an old Winn Dixie plaza. But inside is very nice, modern and worth the wait. I had eggs Benedict, my friend had a patty melt and my other friend had chicken, waffles and strawberry butter. They have all of the typical diner standards plus more. They always have other specials on their chalk board. Highly recommend! read more

Best service and food. Prices were great as well. I would definitely go back. I went with my husband and friend as well as the kids. There was something for everyone. read more

it's so busy even on weekdays! they're slightly understaffed i think crab grits cake good, little bit heavy tho meatloaf just average steak too salty otherwise fine read more

The BEST chicken and waffles! Sub out the regular chicken for the chicken tenders as it is easier to cut and eat but has the same breading and flavor. Delicious! read more

Had 2 great meals here. First day, the chicken pot pie and Philly cheese steak sandwich. Chicken pot was loaded with vegetables and it had this amazing biscuit on top. The Philly steak sandwich was tasty and it was two big sandwiches. Second day was Shrimp and Grits and Breakfast pizza. The shrimp and grits was the best I have ever had and I have had many. It was rich, creamy and just heavenly. Breakfast pizza was so huge, it was definitely for 2. Definitely come back next time we visit our daughter at UF! read more

I've only been here once but had a very pleasant experience. For just opening they run a pretty tight ship. Service was great and the food was good too. I had the Monte Christo and it was delicious. Tons of food as well, I had to take half the meal to go. read more

We went during the dinner rush on a Friday evening. Given the crowd, they were quick to have us seated. The service/atmosphere was great all around except for our actual waitress, which I will get to later. Food- our group had the chicken and waffles, the vortex burger and the breakfast burger. All great portions. We all tried each other's food and voted that the best was the chicken and waffles and it's something for sure worth coming back for. The fries that came with both burgers were slightly cold. Service - During the crazy dinner rush, I am normally pretty understandable, but our waitress took about ten-fifteen minutes to come to us to even take our orders while we could see her idly talking to other tables. It happened multiple times when we needed the server but we could see her standing around elsewhere wasting time. When it came to ordering, I told her I wanted the chicken and waffles and she told me that it would be too much food for me. Yes, I can read that the menu description says it's a half chicken. I can always share my food and take home leftovers. I don't need a waitress judging what I can or cannot order. Lastly, when our food finally came out, my chicken and waffles did not come with the spicy syrup. My server walks away and another server notices she forgot it and has to remind our waitress. I know it's normal to forget things but then I had to wait another 10 minutes for it and our server did not even apologize for the mistake. I know these seem like little things, but all together, the attitude and service I got from this one server significantly affected the overall experience of our dinner. All the other staff were amazingly welcoming and attentive to our needs. I would rate this diner a 5 but because of the service issue, I brought it down to a 4. I know this place is relatively new and they still have some things to work out. The food is great so I look forward to coming back and hopefully service will be improved. read more

Eggs Benedict and the hamburgers were excellent. Did not try the fried chicken and waffles but table next to us all ordered and devoured the large portions provided! A must try read more

My husband and I were very excited to go to The metro for the first time yesterday because everyone said how good the food was and that the meatloaf was a must try there. I definitely disagree. My husband ordered the turkey pot pie and I got the meatloaf. A minute after the server gave my order to the cook I saw him put up my meatloaf. (I knew it was mine because I also ordered a side of coleslaw and it was sitting next to it getting warm) Ten plus minutes later my husbands food was placed next to it. So needless to say when I got my food it was cold except the coleslaw that was warm and tasted horrible . I was looking forward to trying the meatloaf because I had seen it on diners drive-ins and dives. I think them knowing people are going to order it they must just make tons of it at once and have it just sitting back there because it honestly tasted days old maybe a week. My husband said his pot pie was ok but nothing to go back for. To be so excited to try this place and have it just turn out so disappointing was really sad. read more

Always great food and a properly trained friendly staff. I have never had a bad meal and I have been through most of the menu.

We found this place on the yelp app while on the road. The reviews were spot on we loved it, great food, great service, great atmosphere..Try the Bold City Burger read more

Food was less than good. Pancakes were chewy and had an odd flavor. Service was slow.

We have been several times. Just took my daughter last week because she had not been. Food is always great. Service is wonderful. We couldn't ask for better. Prices are a little high but the amount of food makes up for it, because you never leave hungry and usually have lunch for the next day! :) read more

This place was highly spoke of so we decided to try it out. Went there, and it was noisy like a cafeteria. The food was average. Definitely nothing to write home about. We will not waste our time going back here. I give it two stars because it wasn't awful, just mediocre. read more

Great food with pretty good pricing. The wait was really long but we did go on a Sunday mid-morning. The inside of the restaurant was extremely loud but it was packed. I had the crab cake eggs Benedict and it was delicious! Would visit again for sure. read more

If you haven't yet, you have to try the pot roast, it is wonderful! Good service too!

Tasty food and friendly service. Brunch is wonderful, and we've had great dinner there too. Highly recommend the loaded baked potato soup.

I went in on Labor Day and it was packed, which is always a good sign. I ordered Chicken and Waffles to go and it came out fairly quickly. It was delicious! The fried chicken was seasoned to perfection and the sweet spicy sauce for the chicken was amazing. I'll definitely be returning. read more

We discovered this place on a visit to Gainesville while apartment hunting, and it has quickly become a favorite. Favorites include the chicken and waffles and the hot turkey plate, and the Stuffing Waffle special, which is basically Thanksgiving on a plate in waffle form. The service is always great and the food is good, old fashioned diner fare. There is definitely something for everyone! read more

Basic diner food. Service was great, but not impressed by food. No classic soups.

Very good place we were seated quick and the food came super quick too. Highly recommend the avocado wrap.

Well worth the money !! A good variety of great food to choose from .

We travel often to Gainesville for healthcare. My husband and I have eaten at Metro Diner twice now. Once having breakfast, the biscuits and gravy is huge and very good, and once for lunch. The burgers are great, cooked perfectly for medium rare, and very generous size. My husband had the black beans and rice with his, which he said was excellent. I had the fries which were also good. Staff is friendly and on top of things. read more

Stopped in for dinner. Had the Pot Roast. Left satisfied.

The pound cake French toast was delicious and was so sweet that syrup was unnecessary! The breakfast wait can be long on weekends from 9:30-11:00 but the food arrives relatively quickly. Friendly staff and ambiance read more

Came here for Breakfast and based upon prior experience my wife and decided to split a plate. We were not disappointed. We ordered biscuits and gravy which came with two LARGE biscuits (filled the plate), two eggs, and home fries. We ordered a side of the best corned beef hash I have had outside of homemade. With two cups of coffee it came to $19.78 with tax. There was more than enough food for two. I would recommend Metro Diner to anyone interested in lots of good food at a very reasonable price. read more

I come to Gainesville 3-4 times a month. This is the first time I noticed this restaurant. Wow! Great service and very clean establishment. My server Molly was very courteous and professional. You have to get the chicken and waffles when you come! I'll be back you can count on that. read more

The chicken and waffle there are the best. Portion sizes are huge. Definitely get your moneys worth here

Went with my girlfriend on a busy Sunday brunch. Wait was about 45 minutes and we were seated on time. She ordered a huge breakfast plate and I ordered a Philly cheesesteak and a chicken and biscuit. The Philly was tasty and compact with fresh bread but didn't have enough meat in my opinion. Chicken biscuit was very good. Fair prices, good service. Definitely one of the best chicken and waffles I've had! The staff is friendly and the food was made in a timely manner. The only downside is that there is a bit of a wait for seating, but it is worth it. If you don't want to wait, you can always call in an order and it will be ready in 15 minutes or less. I highly recommend! read more
