Great Reuben and crab cake benedict, but stay away from corn beef hash. definitely worth a visit.

I loved the atmosphere and we had a great server. The food I got was just okay. The servings are definitely huge though!

Yum!! Don't try and get a table at the weekend without planning for some waiting time. This place is busy for a reason, it's popular because the food is great, and the prices are very reasonable. read more

We stopped here based on the Yelp reviews and it was incredible! The fried chicken plate and chicken w waffles were delicious. We took half the chicken home and can't wait for leftovers. Our waiter Sterling was truly sterling and the manager John makes sure everyone leaves happy. We did! read more

Just stopped through Gainesville on our way home from vacation. We stopped there based off of other Yelp reviews and I would say it even surpassed our expectations based off the good reviews. Service was friendly and quick. Our server was helpful with the menu after he asked if we had ever been there before and we had not. We started with both soups of the day and they were delicious. Great presentation on all of the meals and everything was cooked very nicely. The pork tenderloin sandwich was one of the best we've ever had; the bacon, cheese, garlic sauce, and thick Chicago bread were awesome. Also, love places that serve breakfast, lunch, and dinner all day. Cool diner atmosphere. Would highly recommend to anyone stopping through Gainesville and looking for a good place to grab a bite to eat! read more

Excellent service! It was packed and we were seated in the amount of time we were told, food arrived fast too and it was delicious! Servers were also attentive, definitely recommend it read more

Recently went there today with my family and love it! Great, savory meals --like the chicken and waffles and burgers-- take up much of the menu. There is also a variety of items and meals to choose from (e.g. Breakfast, lunch, and even meals for the kids). My personal favorites include a sandwich with a beef patty smothered inbetween two grilled cheese sandwiches and the biscuit and sausage gravy (which I ate with eggs and hash browns). The chicken and waffles were good; the waffles were fluffy and not too sweet or plain. The Bold City Burger, stuffed with a hunk of a patty, bacon, and more, was absolutely divine. Also, while the Monte Cristo was my least favorite (too heavy for my taste), it is definitely creative and fun to eat (my family and I shared them all). While much of the food is very rich in flavor and can be heavy to some individuals, it is absolutely worth the try! Good service, good food, and good experience!! read more

This was our first time at this regional chain. You can get breakfast, lunch, or dinner items all day. We shared an omelette. It was huge and delicious. The staff was very friendly. The kitchen is open. The bathrooms were clean and odor-free. Highly recommend. read more

Absolutely wonderful! I've never had strawberry butter but can't wait to make it myself. I got the chicken and waffles and had chicken strips instead of the 1/2 chicken. There were five huge pieces of chicken. I had four of the strips left over. My son had the philly cheesesteak and he said it was great. It was also very large. Great service and food. Will definitely be back on my next visit read more

Love it, huge portions. Favorite items are American Omelette (steak, cheddar cheese, onions, mushrooms), and chicken & waffles.

Wire and I just had breakfast at Metro Diner this morning. It was our 1st visit after hearing so many people rave about the place. We now understand the enthusiasm. The place is fantastic. Excellent food, excellent service (thank you Myra, our server). We plan to re-visit often. read more

This place is amazing and the staff especially our waitress were unbelievable. The servings were huge and the waitress went to great lengths to make sure you got exactly what you wanted cooked just right. If you don't eat here you missed one of the best restaurants I've ever eaten at. read more

I came in for lunch today and it was the first time I had ever been to a Metro Diner. I had the meatloaf since it was highlighted as their specialty dish and it didn't disappoint! It was flavorful and came with mash potatoes that were fluffy and fresh. The servings are huge so be prepared to leave full. The waitress Casey was also very attentive as she immediately came over to our table to greet us and explain the specials on the blackboard. She always refilled my drinks before I could ask and did a great job making sure my meal came out as ordered and didn't have any problems. It was an all around great experience! read more

This is our fourth time coming to the Gainesville Metro Diner. Each time, we have bragged on it to our friends and family. This time, however, I feel like I need to shout it to the rooftops. This place is AMAZING!!! It really doesn't matter what you order, it's all delicious. The staff is very friendly and attentive too. My favorites so far are the gravy and biscuits and especially the stuffing waffle! read more

Had the breakfast special omelet with Swiss, mushrooms and bacon. The service was great and food was good, My wife's omelet didn't have much bacon in it. She felt there should have been more. Overall, a good new place for breakfast! read more

Never been to Gainesville wandered in to this place wondering why it was so crowded. We know now. Fun place had a great fried chicken and waffles. The waiter, Scott, showed how it's done with the maple syrup and hot sauce. We'll make sure to eat here next time we come through. read more

Delish! I have to stay faithful to my fav local diner (43rd St deli) but this food was killer and they give a lot of it. Fun coffee flavors & byob brunch? yes plz read more

I do like this place. It is very loud, so be warned if you have trouble hearing in an atmosphere with a lot of background noise. If you go during a rush hour, don't go to take your time. They are really into turnovers. A man at the table next to us went to the restroom before his food came and they cleared his place setting. He caught them as they were about to dump his drink out. They didn't offer us an 'refills' after I had asked for a to go box. They want you gone so they can seat the folks milling around waiting for a table. But that's ok if you are prepared for it. They do a good business because the food is excellent, reasonalby priced and you will not leave hungry. read more

First time here and thought we would try breakfast. Ordered the breakfast burrito with sausage and the biscuits and gravy plate. Huge portions, but flavor was lacking. The gravy stood out for being bland even though it claims to be sausage gravy. There was also a surprise black bean in the mix. Even with this added legume, all I tasted was flour. I also thought the biscuits were very dry. The breakfast burrito was ok, I didn't care for the addition of black olives and feel if there wasn't sausage in it, it would have been a black olive scramble wrapped in a tortilla. I'm not telling anyone to NOT go here, just I wasn't impressed. Another turnoff was my coffee cup had lipstick on the rim which questions their dishwashing technique, though the waitress was very eager to replace my cup, it was a precursor to the rest of the meal. read more

Large portions, cooked fresh, and tasty. Kind of has an small town dinner feeling but no run down feel. The kitchen is open to the restaurant so the food prep is viewable to the customers read more

Breakfast all day and a varied menu for all day. Benedicts are the best, especially crab. Blueberry pancakes superb. Eaten here a dozen times or more and everything is great except the meatloaf--short on flavor and long on filler. Also needs better coffee. read more

Most every trip has been enjoyable, even when we've had to wait. Can get a little crowded and noisy, but they have a great menu to choose from. They have indoor and outdoor dining, though even with the heaters, can get chilly in the outdoor area in winter. Service is good, prices are average/reasonable and portions are good. This is one of our regular places to eat out (and yes, I wear my t-shirt for my 10% off!) read more

Found this restaurant on Google. We were greeted, quite literally, with an open door by the owner. Service was excellent and food was tasty.

It was alright. Not my favorite, but I didn't hate it. Food was okay, service was rushed.

This place is awesome. Great food, casual atmosphere, big portions. Even when it's busy the wait time is usually quoted as no more than 20 minutes and we're usually seated in half as much time. The breakfast food and the burgers are great diner fare. Glad that Metro Diner made its way to Gainesville. read more

A wide variety of menu items. Breakfast available all day. We really like the food that we've tried. The downside is that it is very noisy and there is almost always a wait -- which shows how well liked the place is. read more

loud and loud and loud tacky decor great portions but all canned pre packaged food - a date took me here once and i never wnet back out with him i actually left him there in a n uber read more

Just had the yo challah dish here for breakfast. Big mistake. I had to watch everyone around me eat delicious biscuits and gravy while staring at my over-sweet, disgusting grape-jam covered French toast. If you go here, get something other than the challah French toast. Not a one-star cause I got a taste of the biscuits and gravy. read more

I came to Metro Diner with my boyfriend for my birthday dinner. We were exhausted from a long weekend on vacation, and I was in the mood for a casual dinner. We have a Metro Diner in our hometown where I was served a great breakfast once, so I wanted to see if this diner in Gainesville was just as good. We got to the diner and were immediately seated and our order was taken. It wasn't busy, and within maybe 10-15 minutes our food was served. I ordered the Baked Italian Hoagie and it was absolutely delicious! The roll was perfectly crispy and the meats and cheeses and vinaigrette blended so well together. My boyfriend ordered a meatloaf dish and he loved it as well, and he told me his squash was perfectly cooked and seasoned. Even though our waiter handed us the check without asking if we wanted dessert, it was an overall great meal and I will definitely be back for another casual bite soon! read more

The noise level is extreme. You cannot hear your companion or wait staff person unless shouting occurs. My vegetarian burger was pure mush. Even mayonnaise and mustard could not improve the flavor. The chips, while crunchy, were stale. I do not recommend this restaurant. read more

I ate at the Metro Diner on October 26, 2017 with two others in my party. Wait was about 20 minutes, but person at podium really had her act together as did the crew cleaning up and prepping tables as customers finished up and left--so I have nothing but positive comments about how SHORT the wait time was based on the activity. Rate it a 5. Service was a bit slow to take our order and to get our bill and payment--but after we ordered, food cane out hit and obviously just prepared. Rate service a 4 at start and finish, but a 5 on getting food to you as soon as it is prepared and keeping you drinks and other dining needs fulfilled. I had the large 1/2 pound burger special, and it was cooked to order and just off the grill delicious. I had tabouli instead of fries, as a goodwill health initiative, and thought the tabouli was very good. My guests food was excellent as well. Rate the food a 4 plus. Restaurant was very busy and quite loud--hard to carry on a conversation, BUT that's to be expected in a grill, so I rate the atmosphere a 4. I plan to go back to this restaurant, and recommend it to others for informal dining. read more

Love Metro, the MetroMelt, corned beef hash'neggs. Slaw. Never get enough slaw. There's a couple other things, but the extensive MetroMenu I have not yet memorized. Go. Eat. Burp! read more

I made a Yelp account JUST to post this review. I was out for dinner with some friends and we decided to go to Metro Diner, because it was new and we'd heard a lot of good stuff. Unfortunately we experienced none of that good stuff. We didn't have to wait that long to be seated which was nice, but our waiter was a tad agitating and kept referring to everything as "yah, it's soooper good" in his best early 2000's surfer voice, but whatever, I could ignore that. One of my friends ordered the house-made limeade, which was more like syrup. On the bright side I could use it to add flavor to my peach tea, which I wasn't a fan of. I would have gladly ordered something else to drink, but The Dude never gave me a chance. As an appetizer we ordered the blue chips or something like that. They actually tasted ok, except for the chips on the edge of the dish were so cooked they could cut your mouth. As an entree I ordered the apple chutney pork chops special thing, and I had high hopes. Now I know better. What I got was two unseasoned, overcooked little chops, that were drowning in a snotty thick sweet glaze with a couple of canned cinnamon apples on top. I poured on some salt and powered through it, using my dried out French fries as a chaser. One of my friends ordered a breakfast dish with a side of the "honest to goodness" grits (or something similarly named), and quite accurately noted that he thought they were a bowl of spackle when they were put down in front of him. We all decided we wouldn't be coming back here, but the REAL nail in the coffin was this: after we got our check but before we paid, I asked for a soda to go...The Dude then goes "yeah sure, let me just adjust your check for you." Seriously?! I've already paid for a beverage, why charge me for another??? I'd been drinking this awful tea all night because our waiter never gave me a chance to ask for something else. How is me asking for something else to go different than me asking for a refill, just with something else, while we were dining. Also, the lights mysteriously dimmed throughout the entire restaurant while we were there. Deeeefffinitely not going back, not even if everything's "sooper good". read more

Amazing food, fast service, and friendly wait staff, what more could you want? Went there for lunch today I had the chicken and waffles. Took my parents--- one had a Reuben and the other had sandwich and chili. I have to say.... I think my chicken and waffles were the best! The waffles were high, fluffy, and hot with a wonderful strawberry cream cheese /butter topping. The chicken was moist and had a really great seasoned breading on it. The only problem is you get a half of a chicken and a whole waffle and it is too much food for one person to eat! But I did my best. My father said the Ruben was delicious and he would order it again, (Which is the highest compliment he ever gives.) Mom said her ham sandwich and chili was just delicious. It was very crowded but the food came out quickly and very hot. I would suggest anyone and everyone go to this restaurant when I'm back in Gainesville I'll certainly go back there. read more
