A morning appointment at a doctor in the Greenbrier area of Chesapeake created the need for lunch, which I normally skip. We had previously tried two different eateries after morning appointments. Both spots were crossed off my list for repeat visits. The choices remaining were recommendations from a good friend who lives in the Grassfield area or a Yelp search for nearby places with good ratings. I chose Yelp. Metro Diner was close and on the way home. The location is a small strip center facing Volvo Parkway. Because there's no curb cut from the south, enter by a side street that loops behind the 7-Eleven to Volvo Commons. The eatery serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. The menu included an extensive breakfast/brunch menu. Dinner items also were plentiful. But the number of true lunch selections was limited. I ended up ordering the Fish & Chips from the dinner menu, substituting green beans for the fries. Coleslaw also came with the dish. I was served 2 large pieces of fish, enough for two meals. They were good as were the green beans. The coleslaw was excellent & exactly to my taste. It's really hard to find restaurants that serve coleslaw the way I prefer. My friend had pancakes & bacon, which she proclaimed to be good. I loved the ease of paying by credit card with a small terminal the server brought to the table, The spot appeared to be popular, especially at the time we visited. Metro Diner will go on my list of approved "after doctor" eateries.

Stopped in after Dr. appointment since it's right on the way home and revues looked fairly good so we thought we would give it a try. We were greeted upon entering and seated immediately. Our waitress was very friendly and took our drink orders and left us to look over the menu. Noise level was a bit high and made it difficult to carry on a conversation and even hear our waitress. I was in the mood for breakfast still and ordered a short stack of pancakes and a side of bacon. Of course I had to have coffee. Everything was good and our waitress brought out a container of warm maple syrup for my pancakes.she was also very good about checking with me for coffee refills. My friend ordered Fish and Chips. Her meal came with coleslaw and French fries but she substituted green beans for the fries. Her meal was very good and the two pieces of fish were very large. After eating one piece and the sides, a box was requested to bring the other piece of fish home. We will probably return when in the area again but we both agree it will more than likely be when we are both in the mood for breakfast.

I visited Metro Diner located in the Greenbrier area of Chesapeake recently on a Saturday morning. The atmosphere is what you would expect from a typical diner with a mixture of booths and table seating. They were busy and had a few customers waiting to be seated but since I was solo dining I was seated right away. I found the waitstaff to be very friendly and attentive, however my meal did not meet my expectations and left me feeling disappointed based on reviews I read. I ordered the Bissell Breakfast, which included scrambled eggs, turkey sausage, home fries, croissant French toast, and a side of fruit. There was a bit of a wait for my order, so I was disappointed when the food was not hot when it arrived. When ordering I specifically asked if the eggs were fresh-cracked and was told they were; however, the texture and taste suggested liquid eggs. Additionally, the home fries lacked any seasoning or salt, making them quite flavorless. Finally, although the waitress highly recommended the croissant French toast, it was only dipped in batter on one side, which was disappointing. After sharing my experience with a friend she suggested that I return to try the chicken and waffles, I am hesitant to make the drive back to Chesapeake given this experience. If you are in the area, please stop by and try the chicken and waffles and let me know if it is worth a return visit.

Came for lunch after church with my husband and our friends. We got there early and were able to get on the waitlist while we waited for our friends. 20minute wait on Sunday afternoon isn't bad. It was my husband's first time here and I had only been once several years ago. There were so many options it was hard to choose. I decided on the chicken tenders with cheese fries and broccoli. My husband was going to get the fried chicken meal but copied me and got the chicken tenders too lol. Our friends got the avocado breakfast sandwich with fruit, which was one item I was considering lol. Our other friend got the fried chicken Benedict. Everyone enjoyed their meals. I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of the food. The chicken tenders were seasoned well and the broccoli was cooked perfectly. Definitely a great spot for breakfast or lunch!!

If you're in Chesapeake and craving a hearty breakfast or some comfort food, you should give Metro Diner a try. The staff is friendly and the service felt relaxed but attentive. I was pleasantly surprised by how good the food was and it came out pretty quick. Everything tasted freshly made and cooked with care. My favorite are the pancakes and coffee. Ambiance is a typical diner set up with booths and tables for larger groups.

It took 7 minutes from the time we sat down to when we saw our server. The manager did come over during that time to explain that the servers were tied up with other tables. At that point I counted 4 servers and 5 other tables. After we ordered the food took another 20 minutes to arrive. If I was the server, I would not have served the meatloaf. My meatloaf was burnt (see photo). The mashed potatoes were lukewarm. The green beans were the best part of the meal. The green beans were cooked perfectly. Halfway through our meal the server appeared and asked if we wanted dessert. It doesn't look like a typical diner and there is minimal ambiance.

This was good,wasn't special. Service was good I got my refills without asking and that's usually my biggest problem with service when I go eat. I have no complaints. Just wasn't really anything great but it was definitely good. Ehh actually the sever was definitely a great server.

Came here once to pick up food and another time, I ordered delivery through their Olo service. The first time, I got the steak tips with green beans and mashed potatoes. First thing I noticed was the dish size was tiny and the weight was light. The steak tips were overcooked and the meal barely satisfied my hunger. The next time, I ordered delivery due to heavy rain and not feeling like picking up the food myself. I ordered the chicken tender plate with onion rings, side salad, and a biscuit. The meal took a long time to arrive 1hr 20 minutes after ordering but that may have been due to weather and traffic. The food was highly disappointing. The chicken tenders were small, didn't come with any type of sauce (lucky I had Chick-Fil-A sauce on hand), the onion rings were ok, and the biscuit was also okay but a little dry. I wasn't that satisfied with either of my meals and I honestly only ordered the second time because they gave me a 50% off entree and I was hoping the next meal would be better as Metro diner does get many good reviews but that may just be for their dine in service. I will probably not be back to this location or any other ones as there are too many much better dining experiences in the area. Overall, I was just pretty disappointed with striking out at Metro Diner.

We wanted some late breakfast so we stopped in for a bite at the metro diner. The service was great. We were seated immediately and the waitress was super sweet and quick. I ordered the huevos rancheros because it's my favorite thing. Their take on it is a bit different with what I'm used to. They fry the tortilla and then top it with the toppings. I wish there was more black beans because that's really my favorite part of huevos rancheros. There were like 5 beans on there LOL. The crispy jalapeños were REALLY good with it though. I'll still rate it high because it was pretty tasty.

Can't even tell you how much we loved it here. We decided to do a Christmas Eve breakfast here anna we LOVED it! The waitstaff was exceptional, very welcoming. The food...oh my God! The waffles were so fluffy. And HALF A CHICKEN with those waffles!? I could spend an hour taking about the strawberry butter. We also had the chicken eggs benedict, which was awesome! The cinnamon bun pancakes with candied pecans was to die for. Thankfully we have leftovers! This place is exceptional! My new go-to!

We had a party of Seven, virtually everyone at the table ordered the Chicken & Waffles. The 1" thick Waffle is served with a strawberry butter, I personally would prefer a cinnamon or apple butter , accompanied by 1/2 Chicken Fried to perfection served with a side of Nashville Sauce . Nashville sauce, Im told is Heat hotsauce and syrup mixed together for lip smacking toe tapping enjoyment!!! Everyone at the table attacked this Chicken and left a carcass trail that should serve as a compliment to the chefs in the kitchen. I ordered the Spicy Honey Chicken on a biscuit with a fruit cup on the side. The chicken biscuit was fire, the fruit was fired, I sent that back in exchange for grits. Unfortunately the grits didn't fare well for me either, as they were luke warm and a little loose. Our serve Jaxson, was very attentive and helpful, I'm sure we caused him to walk a mile, but he did it with a smile. The food was Reasonably priced, I'm going to try the Chicken and Waffles next time as that seemed to be the favorite throughout the restaurant!!!

Pride, joy, and cosy, family-friendly gathering place for our neighborhood. Fun fact: Greenbrier area of Chesapeake is booming with new eateries open up all over the place, but Metro Diner should not worry about the competition: they developed faithful followers (like my family!) for a lot of reasons: hard-working, cheerful (even in the busiest times!), courteous staff, quality and variety of food that never disappoint! And size of the portions! - you could get full and make at least couple of meals out of the leftovers. read more

Like the food here but seriously the service is the worst so I will never be returning again. We have gone to this diner alot in the past and honestly the waitresses were never too great they always delivered something wrong or just had the face that they hated their jobs but we let it slide because we just wanted our food and the manager came out and fixed our problems. But I guess over time they have gotten even worse. How they have an area to sit outside (we have eaten in this area in the past) we sat down a waitress came out sat down on a table and played on her phone (must have been on a break) she went in came back out didn't say a word to us. We went in and asked for service and the rude hostess just said oh that area is closed. Nothing else!! Like hello you don't like to make money? Its 1 foot away from the inside door you can't just accommodate based on the fact that there is still a pandemic and people don't want to go in! Both the waitress who were on break and the one in the front are the worst. One sitting right next to us doesn't tell us they are not serving in the outdoor area anymore and the other rolling her eyes and walking away after just saying it's oh that area is closed like no customer service at all. Will never go back again. If that area was closed they should put a sign and they need to retrain their waitresses to be more friendly and service customer needs like chick fil a gas better service, it's a fast food!! All I can say their Shrimp and Grits just met the competition in the tidewater area. They are now tied with VA Beach's Eurasia in my book. We had great service from a great waiter(sorry forget name) he went above and beyond! Highly recommend. read more

I love diner food! The first Metro Diner experience I had was in St. Augustine FL and it was definitely 5s (overall experience: food, environment & service). Therefore, when I found out a Metro Diner was being built right down the street, I was ecstatic! A couple of days ago, my sister & I decided to finally check this place out- it having been opened long enough for the crazy business to die down. This is a smaller location in comparison to the one I first experienced jn FL. However, I did notice the intent of creating a small, diner atmosphere. I just wish it was a little more "open" & not so "dark". On to the positive notes: - Our server was awesome & very personable. - The food was very good. - We will likely revisit this diner in the future. read more

It was lunch time and the place was busy. Atmosphere was nice we were seated outside. A nice area. The food was good I had the fried chicken plate 1/2 fired chicken(was crispy and delicious) with mashed potatoes and steamed medley. The service was terrible. The waitress gave the child a colored mat with no crayons. Went to prefer the mimosa but they had no champagne She took our order and left. After we got up and inquired about our food did she come back. Then bought our food and no eating utensils. Okay listen up squares. If you're not going to metro diner and asking for Jackie you're doing it all wrong. Shes amazing. The kitchen is an open concept sort of thing and those guys behind there are really funny and talkative. I had biscuits and gravy which came with eggs and hashbrowns. I asked jackie if I could have home fries instead and she said "I know a guy in the back I can get you some homefires" Shes funny and the food delicious. Thanks metro diner! read more

If I could give them a 0 I would. Management is rude and nasty..All the young ladies have attitudes.(.Manager )Paige needs to be replaced she's gonna bring business down...I ordered online. Got there phone said order was ready.went in stood for 10mins before I had to ask for service or even a hello.waited and extra 20mins or so for my order.got my order fries were cold as ice with a hot burger.i asked for hot fries and staff started yelling about how short staff they are read the door and very unprofessional. I've had the opportunity to dine at Metro Diner multiple times, and I'm pretty pleased with this restaurant. I also loveeeee breakfast food, so I was happy to see a new breakfast place in Chesapeake. When I think of a diner, I think of an old-school restaurant. However, I feel like metro diner is pretty modern with the retro vibes. I've been fortunate to never have to wait for a table when I've been. There's both indoor/outdoor seating and a bar area. Our servers are knowledgable of the menu and were very sweet. I highly recommend any of the benedicts and the french toast. You get a TON of food, and I've always saved part of it for lunch the next day. I would love to try the lunch food next! read more

Went here for the first time yesterday and ordered the meatloaf. It did not leave a good taste in my mouth literally. I ate one bite and fed the rest to my dogs who really enjoyed it. I'm sure they have some very good food but I'd stay away from the "meat" loaf. read more

I'm got the chicken and waffles. The waffle was yummy and the strawberry butter was everything. The only issue I had was the chicken was extremely salty. They give you you a half of chicken. The portion size was great. More stars would have been given but the chicken was super salty. Will give it one more try. read more

I enjoy this place every time we go. Clean with a great atmosphere. Great portion sizes for the money also the meals are cooked right across the counter so the food always arrives hot. Lots of choices on the menu, great for large parties (which we usually have) or just for two. We love that they have breakfast and dinner options all day. This is my family's go to spot these days. read more

This place is amazing! And consistent! I've been here MULTIPLE times and have not been disappointed at all. The chicken and waffles makes my mouth water and I don't even like chicken breast. Excellent service and good chicken and waffles! It was VERY cold inside, so I decided to eat outside with my little diva....the weather was perfect and though the outdoor seating area is large, it was nice and comfortable. A server prepped some "spicy maple syrup" (nothing more than Texas Pete and syrup) to go along with the chicken. It was alright with it, but I could do without it. The serving was pretty large...a breast, leg, thigh, and wing along with your standard Belgian waffle topped with fresh strawberry butter. Came to the diner today for lunch. If I was only rating the food it would be getting 4 stars rating again because the food was great as usual but our service was horrible, which is why I had to lower my rating this time. We had a server by the name of Jessica, she started off great but faded extremely quick. Had to get several different staff members to help us with things like removing empty plates and drink refills because she was hanging out in the back. The other servers could not even find her. If your patient with the service experience try the restaurant as the food is always good, and we have had great service in the past, just not this time. read more

The high quantity of positive reviews made me want to try this place. I wasn't impressed. I should have guessed from the fact that the first thing the girl recommended was the chicken and waffles that this is the kinda place that covers their food with sugar and/or deep fries it to make it palatable. Enough oil or sugar and most people will eat almost anything. That said my wife is normally fairly easy to please and she was unhappy with her food as. All of the food was served cold. My omelette was small and has ver little filling. The cheese didn't even looked melted. The wife's French dip had the most dry roast beef I've ever tasted. The kid said he liked his sandwich but he barely ate half of it. He normally cleans his plate. On a positive note the waitress was very friendly and did a good job. read more

Me and my Wife and her parents met here for a late brunch the other day. The wait staff was excellent and super friendly. The food was great, as always with metro. I love their breakfast and my wife does too. It was her parents first time and they were eager enough after the first visit to come back. The only down side was the power went out for a bit due to weather but it wasn't an issue and didn't detract from service or quality. Since the building's humble beginnings in 1938 and its revival as Metro Diner in 1992, Jacksonville's favorite place for breakfast has been serving satisfied guests for nearly 25 years. In 2000, master chef Mark Davoli and family took over and elevated the menu to include innovative new dishes created from local ingredients. Along with culinary creativity, the Davoli family brought more than 80 years of combined restaurant experience to Metro Diner. Upon first look at the place from the outside, you can see the name and logo pretty easily. It looks similar to other places that happen to be in this same shopping center. We got here around 8 am on that first visit. When we came inside, it wasn't too busy yet, likely due to others probably still sleeping after being up past midnight for the new year. The inside of the place has a modern diner type of vibe, which fits the restaurant well. We were greeted and seated immediately. Our server Brooke came over pretty quickly and asked us what we would like to drink. I just do my usual of water with lemon, and my mom had gotten coffee. It would take us a little while to choose since there lots of good items to choose from. When she came back to check again, we were ready this time. I figured I'd get something I don't normally do, so I went for the French Toast Combo with scrambled eggs, bacon, and baked apples. My mom decided to go with the Ultimate Skillet with rye toast. The food would come out pretty quick. It was around ten minutes or so. Both breakfast entrees looked really good and they were hot. It felt like an indulgence when I started on the French toast since it has been a long time since having it. The baked apples were great too, and something else I don't normally have. I will note that I didn't get a blood sugar spike after this meal either that day. My mom enjoyed the Ultimate Skillet as much as I did with the French Toast Combo. After the experience from that first visit, we came back to try the lunch/dinner menu options for dinner that day. This visit was on January 12, 2026. After being seated initially, we moved over to a table since the booths were a bit tight. Kellie was our server on this visit. She asked us what we wanted to have to drink, and I went with water with lemon and my mom went with a coke. After taking some time to look over the menu, we were ready to order. My mom decided not to have too much, so she just went with the Loaded Baked Potato side item. I decided to try the Chipotle Chicken Ciabatta Sandwich with the homemade chips as the side. Just like the last time, it took about ten minutes or so for the food to come out. The sandwich I had was really good, and so were the homemade chips. This time, this meal did spike my blood sugar levels, but it was so good. My mom told me afterwards that the loaded baked potato she had come out cold. It was then that we let the server know, and she asked if she wanted to get it redone. She said no but wanted to take it home instead. The server did take off the cost of that item. It was likely due to it sitting before my sandwich was ready to bring them out together. Mom did get a box to bring it home and had it later that evening, and she said it was good when it was heated up at home too. Overall, we have had a few very good experiences here. The food and service were good, and the issue for my mom was handled well too. That shows they truly care about the experience of the visitors here. Both menus may be just two sides, but there is quite a bit to choose from. I think anyone would find something they would like here. There is one thing I want to note when it comes to paying. There is a 3% surcharge added to the total including taxes if you use a credit card instead of cash. In the end, if you are looking for a diner type of place, this one is worth checking out.

UNORGANIZED MESS! Placed a large take out order for dinner (family of 5) and was quoted a 15 minute pick-up time. Once arrived to pick up it became obvious there are issues with the efficiency of how this restaurant is running. 35 minutes after placing the order we were walking out with it. Before doing so, we had to ask if items that were up on the warmer were ours also and of course they were. Staff didn't seem to care about the wait time and just looked at us when we complained (this is where training employees in being apologetic and sincere would serve a business well). Once we arrived home, the entrees that were in the bottom of the bag were cold and soggy- indicating that they had been made at the beginning (a half hour earlier) and the ones on top were hot and fresh. Taste was delicious on the fresh entrees and unfortunately the cold/soggy ones were discarded as they were a wet mess. Definitely would NOT recommend this restaurant for take-out. And based on what was observed during our lengthy wait, not sure I'd recommend a dine-in experience either. read more

I've came here every Saturday for the past 3 months. I sit at the 7 seat "bar" which is first come first serve right in front of the kitchen line. The communication between all of them on the line is amazing. The man that runs the window is always so calm and collected during the busiest of times. Leah is great too. Always so sweet and gets you everything you need right away. It's great to watch this place work. Went looking around for a breakfast place this morning, so went to Ihop and Egg Bistro. Both places were slammed packed, so ventured a little further and found this place. OH MY WORD!!!! This place is amazing!!!! Food was great customer service was great and sitting at the counter watching the cooks and hearing their communication was extremely impressive. Definitely one of my new favorite spots. The waffle was awesome!!! All the fruit was so fresh and amazing. The Hot chocolate... I cant rave enough about it!!!! I am on my fourth visit and each time is better than the last. Since I tend to be a creature of habit, I always ask for Tina because her customer service and overall attentiveness is second to none. I recommend the shrimp and grits and chicken and waffles. read more

It's okay. Not that good on customer service and it did take longer than expected for our food to arrive. But, on the plus side, the food was delicious! I would say this would be at least a four star review if it had better customer service. read more

Metro Dinner by far is the best place to eat. Their soup of the day is absolutely good and the a mouth of food they serve is enough for 2. The Waffle is the best waffle we ever had. There service is very fast. read more
