Back for a second morning meal in a row. Had the pleasure of Rodd's friendly and attentive service again. Started off with hot coffee and indulged in some chicken and waffles while my mom had the pumpkin griddle with pancakes. VERY tasty, chicken was fried perfectly and the Belgian waffle was great with the unique strawberry butter. Yesterday was eggs, half a waffle and turkey links. I must say coffee is pretty weak, but I'm not from around here and I have yet to get good strong cup of joe l, so no biggie. Busy place, I went on a Sunday morning, which I expected to be busy especially in Augusta. I got on the waitlist and about 10 minutes later a spot opened up on the counter which is first come first serve. There are about eight stools at the counter facing the kitchen so you can watch the cooks in action pumping out the orders. The servers have to talk and serve you over your shoulder which is a little awkward, however it works. I ordered basics, eggs, sausage, hash browns, a biscuit, and coffee. The server offered an option for hazelnut coffee, I passed, however if you're into that, we there you go. I watched the chicken and waffles being prepared and that is a lot of food. So if you're going to eat it all, you better be hungry. Ha! Food took awhile, however another kitchen manager (I assume) showed up, started coordinating orders and things started moving a little smoother. My plate arrived, everything was correct, cooked correctly, and was tasty. The sausage patties were excellent. The only negative was the hash browns were a little bland, however I didn't need the potatoes anyway after eating the biscuit. My verdict, good food and I will return when I am back in town. If you haven't been there, give it a try, you just need to be hungry and try to find a time when they are not so busy. Good luck with that. read more

Although I've been to Metro Diner in Jax plenty of times, I decided to try the Augusta location with a friend who had never been. Unfortunately, no pics this go round. The restaurant is very nice, plenty of seating and was not busy when we got there. The food was fresh and amazing as always, I went with the corned beef hash and toast and biscuits and gravy. The toast came to the table burnt so I wasn't able to eat it, no biggy since I had the biscuits and gravy which were amazing! The corned beef hash was good as well, a little different than what I'm used to but I would definitely get it again. My friend had the veggie omelette with hash browns (all the way, no meat) and toast. He enjoyed it, but it was a little different since all of the ingredients were like a burrito wrapped in a big egg. None of the ingredients were actually cooked into the egg. I was a little disappointed as Yo Hala was not on the menu and I was looking forward to eating that this morning. read more

In all honestly, I'm not sure if I'll ever get enough of this place. Is it busy? Heck yes! Why? Because it's wonderful and worth the wait. Simple as that. First off, there is a dedicated parking lot. Although it can be a bit tight on both sides of the diner- behind the building are plenty of spacious spots and you can drive around the entire building or exit out the side road by Publix. Very well thought out to accommodate such a busy diner. Once you are inside, there is complimentary coffee and water while you wait. If you'd like a meal and a show, try to snag a first-come, first-serve seat at the bar. You may not have to wait as long and you'll have a bird's eye view of the cook staff and their system, which is all quite entertaining! Their most popular dish is the Fried Chicken and Waffle. I've yet to try it out, although hubby and I have tried several other dishes. Besides their regular menu items, they also have specials on a large chalk board that are ever changing. Our most recent visit was to make sure I got to try the Cinnamon Bun Pancakes Special before it ran its course. Talk about amazing. Warm cinnamon drizzle and pecans with cinnamon in the cakes as well. Sinfully delicious- no syrup required. Another special we tried was the Apple Yo Hala which was stuffed french toast with apple and cream cheese filling and apple compote. It was as savory and ooey gooey as it sounds. No regrets! Hubby enjoys the Crab Cake Benedict and has ordered it at least three times. He likes to order the poached eggs golf ball hard. The Chicken Pot Pie is an absolutely perfect comfort food meal with a flaky crust on top that covers white meat chicken, peas, carrots, lima beans. The Croissant French Toast is another mouth watering breakfast delight topped with powered sugar. Did I mention that breakfast is served ALL DAY? Those other 24 hours breakfast places don't hold a candle to the the treats this diner is serving up, so get there before they close. For those trying to eat healthier, there are figure flattering options on the menu as well. A couple times I've ordered the Avocado Toast. It's very filling with fresh chopped avocado topped with tomato slice on whole grain bread. The portions of food here are excellent. Great to share if you and a friend want to sample a couple dishes. One thing is for sure, the options seem endless. We haven't even tapped into the burger selection yet. All the staff we have encountered are friendly and seem to actually enjoy being here. When a place is this busy, there are bound to be snags here or there. However, management staff are attentive and involved to make sure you leave happy. Came here with my husband and sister yesterday morning around 9:00 and weren't sure what the wait was going to look like. Got there and they said 20-25 minutes max, which we thought was good. I like that they had coffee and water while you wait on their front patio part. Think they could put more chairs and tables out there for waiting, but maybe it's not on there because it's just now getting warm? We were seated in about 20 minutes which was way shorter of a time than we expected. My sister ordered the two egg breakfast, I got the San Francisco Benedict and my husband got the western omelet. My sisters home fries looked delicious and I may want to switch those out when I come next, although my hash browns were delicious, as well. I loved the Benedict and although the hollandaise is different from others that I've tried, it was still pretty good. Loved the avocado on it. My sister and husband both enjoyed their plates and were glad that we came here for breakfast. I thought they did a great job with the entire and was happy to see a breakfast joint so packed. It's hard for me not to order eggs Benedict when I see them on the menu, but next time I come in I'm trying the huevos rancheros. I lived in Augusta for 25 years waiting for a place like this to open. Sadly I moved before they did, but last October while visiting family, I found Metro Diner and ate 2 meals a day from there. This trip I ate in the restaurant my first day, I've been back every day since. I'm the daughter of a chef and I can tell you with certainty, you will not be disappointed. Portion sizes are off the chart, servers are amazing, the Expediter is friendly and attentive, not only to the pass, but to his surrounding customers. I can't recommend this place enough. Today we just order the chicken and waffles, this platter is definitely enough for 2 adults and a kid. The food was good but we just a few issues - These portion sizes are huge but our chicken was over cooked a few minutes to long. The outer portion of the thigh was hard and the inside look like it shrunk. Someone needs to check the temperature and adjust the cooking time - The strawberry butter was to hard we couldn't even spread it, it was like ice cream. Purchased soup and cheese fries for the kids. The fries was awesome as well as the soup. We did curbside service. The person who came out needed an attitude adjustment. I wished I didn't have to take a star away from the food because of a person who needs customer service training. A truly great diner experience for Augusta! Located on Washington Road (near Master's Cinema) this restaurant opened in early December 2017. Owner/chef Jeff, who also owned the popular Garlic Clove in Evans, GA takes great pride in the Metro Diner experience. He stopped by our table and we had a chance to talk with him about the chain that has over 40 locations. This is the only location in Augusta with other locations in GA such as metro Savannah and Macon. The diner is open from 7am - 8pm daily and serves up traditional "comfort food" meals and a varitey of breakfast items with a twist. Walking into the diner you will be greeted at the host stand and if you wait, will be offered complimentary coffee. The atmosphere is laid back/casual and has a very welcoming vibe with plenty of booth seating. We got seated right away today and met our server Jemma within 4 minutes. She had an amazing personality with a friendly smile to match and quickly covered the restaurant's most popular items with me: Meatloaf is her favorite for lunch and she also described the Shrimp & Grits (if you are a fan of the dish, I would recommend you give it a try) as a popular lunch item as well. I came in knowing that I should review the Chicken & Waffles and I am glad that I did! The fried chicken was crispy but juicy on the inside--- with a pretty tasty well seasoned batter (living in ATL this even gives some well known soul food joints a run for their money) and was 1/2 of a whole chicken in serving size. YES. 1/2 of a chicken!!! AND was served with a Belgium waffle that was topped with strawberry butter (as in fresh strawberries mixed with creamy butter). As a plus when ordering this dish, you get to watch your server make the spicy sweet sauce---syrup and hot sauce-- to eat with the amazingly delicious chicken. For my entree and my hubby's Bissel Breakfast (two fluffy pancakes, choice of meat/bread, grits or hash browns, and eggs cooked to order) a side of sausage gravy and two hot coffees, our total came to $35 including tax. With the stellar service we received (thanks Jemma & Angela) and the truly great food options, we see a bright future ahead for this restaurant. Let me first start off by saying, WAFFLE HOUSE WHO?? HUDDLE HOUSE WHAT?? Metro Diner puts all other diners to SHAME! I've been here a total of three times within a month (don't judge) and every visit has me wanting to come back to try something new! SHRIMP PO'BOY: On my first visit, this was one of the specials of the day. I was thinking I was going to get a half hogie but nooooo, they serve an entire footlong super soft hogie with jumbo shrimp, slaw and tomato...soooo good! I got their onion rings and if you're choosy like I'm choosy about onion rings, then you'll love theirs! They make theirs fresh and made to order-and they aren't soggy like how some can be. You get onion in every bite and it doesn't slide out...oh, and the batter has a light sweetness to it! #love THE FRIED CHICKEN SANDWICH: This was my second visit. I have never had a chicken sandwich this big! It was literally hanging off the bun (which was a soft brioche bun)! It was juicy with the right amount of crunch! I felt they could have went a little easier on the salt however. The bird was topped with lettuce, tomato and honey mustard. I would have preferred more honey mustard, but wont hold that against them. THE CHICKEN AND WAFFLES: I had to save the best for last: I was worried that the chicken would be too salty because of my experience with the fried chicken sandwhich but, noooo, it was fried to perfection! I had to get a half order(thigh and leg) b/c they give you a HALF FRIED CHICKEN!! skin was crispy and the flavor went down to the bone!-- If I could eat the marrow I would! It tasted like a grandma put love into it....I feel a tear coming, hold on........ok, the waffles the waffles the WAFFLES!! Belgium, crisp outer, soft inner and it came with STRAWBERRY BUTTER!! one thing u must know about me is that I'm obsessed with anything strawberry and lemon. It had chuncks of strawberries in it...looked like ice cream...best thing ever! Also, their syrup is legit....not watered down. Lastly, the boyfriend wanted me to mention his burger... THE BOLD CITY BURGER: The boyfriend said he gives it 5 stars. He loved the fact that it had sausage on it. He said it, "took it to a whole new level." I did steal a bite, and I must say it was pretty darn good. Along with the sausage, it's topped with bacon, caramelized onions, provolone, and fried jalapeños! There's also a sauce on it that takes it over the edge...really good!! He had onion rings on the side. This was his 1st visit and the bill (my half order of chicken and waffles and his burger with two waters n lemons) came out to be 22.00 and change...not bad! I've been here with family a grand total of 3-count 'em 3 times! Each time has been on a beautiful weekend morning, the restaurant filled to the gills with patrons, staff, trainers, and the delicious smell of an open kitchen. Don't let the "diner" in the name fool you into thinking this is just some greasy spoon joint you pull into for some late night eats. First of all, they're closed at 9:00 on the weekends and second, the food is better than your average chain restaurant. I'm familiar with their Florida locations and if memory serves me correctly, this might be a condensed version of their usual impressive selection. Still, it's a nice change from the usual dining scene here. Anybody who serves chicken and waffles is okay by me. If you're on a diet, I'd suggest passing on this place. They serve salads and items of the like, but the temptation here is too great. Seriously, google their chicken and waffle with strawberry butter and try not to think about that all day. You know the place is food when they have to put out benches so people can wait for a table. Somehow, it's taken us this long to check this place out! It was just me and the hubby, and as we drove up, we could tell there was a wait. We told ourselves if the wait was more than 30mins, we would go elsewhere. It was about 1:30pm on a Saturday, and lucky for us, we walked in, said it was just the two of us, and were immediately seated. Not only that, the waitress popped up the second our bottoms hit the seat! Looks like the wait was mostly for larger groups, and I could see a couple tables were being cleared off, so they are definitely on it and aware people are waiting. We also really did get lucky about the timing because we spotted some friends (party of two) just a few mins after we were seated and their wait was 30mins. These lovely friends of ours stopped by our table to say hi and recommend a few dishes. We ended up having hashbrowns (nice and crispy!), the spicy honey chicken biscuit (cheap and delicious- the chicken was sooo juicy!), and the waffle special with cheesecake filling and blueberry compote (not as overly sweet as you would expect) We throughly enjoyed our food and the mimosas. First sign of trouble when Stephanie (Asks How do want your eggs cooked?) Well this is eggs Benedict after all Why are these yolks so formed that they could be considered soft boiled. The English muffin is as hard as rock, burnt and black. I tried to consume this mess ( after all I did pay $17.00) forgot about it not happening!!! This is horrible...quick hand me the lemonade we ordered. heavy sigh... Clearly they are not attempting to pass this sour, bitter liquid that has to be greater than a week old taste. Wait I get it, I'm being plunked! Where's the camera... Oh this is real ooh in that case where's the TRASH CAN!!! Stop with the apologies and just do better!!! Okay so I had the Shepard's Pie at first I was stuck between this and Chicken Pot Pie. I'm so happy I went with the Shepard's Pie, they put their foot in it. We arrived at about 8:30am and didn't think we would find a parking spot. Finally, we did. The parking lot is huge. First - it's in the perfect location for Masters week and I'm sure they make a killing. The seem to have added a back entry way into the parking lot so you can turn left from Washington road near the public to enter into the back of the lot. Very convenient. We were seated immediately and the place was packed. Good sign. It took a little while for our server to take our order - but when she arrived, we gave her our drink and food order. The food took longer than I would have liked- but like I said - it was busy. I had a western omelet special, we also had SF Benedict, and a couple of waffles. When the food came, we all plowed through our food until we got to the hash browns. Crispy outside - uncooked inside. This is our only complaint - food-wise. I smashed the omelet and my wife devoured the Benedict. My only suggestion is to maybe speed up the time where the waitress comes to the table. She may have been newer....but we had to ask for our check. These are nit noid comments. We loved it and will be back again! read more
