Mellow Mushroom has been a Denton staple for quite a while. My kids ADORE this place, which is a feat all in itsself. They have a plethora of combo options, but our fave is the HOLY SHITAKE. Let's just say its not for anyone with a lactose intolerance or gluten issue, but damn is it GEWD!. P.S. the cool thing is they have ovo-veggie options, full vegetarian options, gluten free options, and EVEN HAVE VEGAN CHEESE & TOFU options on the menu... Try the Tempeh hoagie too for awesome flavor. We sat a long time before even being brought a menu or offered drinks. The sweet tea is good. It's loud inside. The seating is ample. The staff is nice and friendly just not Johnny on the spot. We got a pepperoni pizza. Its center was puddled with grease. It was just ok. We also got a Greek salad. Not much to write home about, hard to mess up a Greek salad. Someone in our party ordered the salad that had strawberries and pineapples and they were out of strawberries. We are visiting from SoCal where pizza joints are a dime a dozen. We picked Mellow Mushroom because of my daughter's celiac disease. Our server, Alex, was awesome. Super attentive & helpful with the GF menu. We ordered 3 pies- the Thai dye, mighty meaty & a build your own GF with misc stuff on it. My daughter's GF was the best she's ever had (and GF pizza is plentiful in California so this is huge). The Thai dye is a great original pizza with a Thai curry feel, I'd highly recommend. I'm not a huge fan of chain food and avoid it like COVID. This joint is a major exception to that. I absolutely love this place and have been loving The Mushroom from Murfreesboro, TN; Southlake, and now Denton. The toppings are incredibly fresh and generous. The crust you'll want to eat all by itself. I never deviate from the House Special which offers a good combination of protein and veggies. I want to try some of the others but just always seem to get the same House pie every time no matter what city I'm in. The spinach artichoke dip is just stupid delicious and worth every calorie. It's a be'chamel sauce with loads of mild white cheeses, spinach, and chopped artichokes-served with perfectly seasoned crostini. My food arrived in less than 10 minutes and was right from the oven. Each store has a particular and quirky theme. Denton has a Moroccan/Texan theme with really cozy booths, great lighting, and colors. There's a really cool looking craft bar also. The music piped in from Spotify (Cool Vibes Lo-fi study....) set a really cool laid back chill vibe today. This is a cool spot for a serious date, a playdate, or a solo date--either one! GM Tori is very kind and welcoming, making it obvious that her team is in sync with her expectations. The staff is way cool and accommodating, as my server was attentive and personable. We went here for date night and were disappointed in the food and waiter. First the waiters seemed to careless about being at work tonight. Second, they drop my pizza and had to remake it. My boyfriend potato pizza was missing bacon. When brought to the server he didn't know the pizza had bacon but he would check. He drop off bacon pieces without saying anything. Third, we had to flag down another waitress to get our checks and she sent the manger over to talk to us about the pizza mix up. While the manger was very nice and removed my boyfriend pizza from the bill. I think they need to do some staff retraining. I've bring a server in my younger days, it's not an easy job but no matter if you are having a bad day, you do what you much to keep your customers happy with in reason. Over the years, I have sadly lamented as MM have closed all over the North Texas area. Today, I really get it. Came to the Denton MM after jury duty. My wings were soggy and had a super gummy skin! Gross! I took them to go because I have an air fryer at home and can fix it. My pizza: half meat, half Buffalo chicken. Meat = good Chicken = rubber chicken from my worst convention + some Buffalo sauce on a pizza. It's like all the other ingredients we're missing. Just. Good: pizza was okay and bartender was cool. Bad: $300+ check and worst waiter I've ever had. You guy that seemed super inconvenienced by having to help us. Rarely came by so we wound up getting most of our drinks by going to the bar. About 1/3 of our food had to be take to-go because it was 30-40 minutes behind all the pizza. Salads were wrong, wings were mushy and cold. If our waiter didn't suck so bad, I think 3.5 stars would be right. But he was terrible. We still tipped good because I couldn't bring myself to do what he deserved. There are soooo many better places to go than this. We stopped by the Mellow Mushroom to get a bite to eat before going to listen to some jazz across the street! My husband and I sat at the bar, our favorite place to sit. The restaurant is spacious and nice and clean! We were greeted immediately by our amazing bartender Mason! He has a great personality and was very attentive! His partner in crime, the other bartender, Nioaka, was also very sweet and attentive. We started with my chardonnay and my husband had titos with a splash of sprite. Drinks were perfect!! I ordered the Ceasar salad and it was very good. My husband ordered the oven baked hot wings and they were very good! They come in several flavors. Then we ordered a medium half mighty meat and half veg out pizza, it was delicious, plenty for 2! The restaurant. was about 20% full, 3 booths plus us. very nice waitress, good customer service skills, took our order brought drinks and said she would be back with plates and silver. The pizza was delivered and still no plates and silver. We asked the person who brought the pizza for them and he said sure and was never seen again. 5+- minutes later the waitress came by and ask if she could get us anything else. We asked again for plates and settings. She returned a few minutes later with plates, napkins, 2 knives and one fork. She apologized and said they were out of forks and the dish washer was on break. Best pizza place in Denton. Restaurant is about 1/4 mile off the square in Denton. We have come here many times and love the stone cooked pizza. Great place to come and watch a game while you down a pie. They haves kids menu- with typical kids fare. We aren't exotic pizza eaters-- just love pepperoni with extra cheese and some beer. This place never disappoints- this last time we had a problem with some scorched crust and they promptly remade our pizza. Nice appetizer are the pretzel bites-- dip in marinara and queso and you'll be in heaven. They also have a cool patio with a fire place- I'd like to try it out on one of these nights when the weather cooperates. read more

This place has good tasting pizzas, but a little on the pricey side. They do make your pizza from scratch, that means you can do a lot of customization with your pizza order, but sadly that also means a lot of wait time. They have an open kitchen and you can see when they make the pizzas (the cooks aren't skilled enough to be spinning and tossing pizza doughs, which I think is an area of improvement). We went at around 5:30pm on a Thursday, which is not really that busy, but we still waited a good 40 mins for our 1 large and 1 medium pizzas. So my guess is that half an hour would be the fastest on any order. Hence if you are starving when you are just seated, get some appetizers. My friend claims that if he could only eat pizza one night a month, this would be THE place to go. Honestly, I think even though the pizzas do taste good, with the price and wait time, I probably won't be ordering here every night either. read more

For those of you in this area, you know the search for the perfect pie has been on for a long time. Today was opening day, and yes, this local chain has a couple of other locations in Ft. Worth and Arlington. My hubby and I had heard how good this place is so we couldn't wait for it to get here! We were able to hit it early for a test run. We started with the Stuffed Portobello Mushroom and 5 of the Jerk Baked Chicken wings. The wings were okay, we just were expecting something a little spicier and had a mild Jerk flavor. The Stuffed Shroom? I really could have had just that for dinner. A huge cap stuffed with feta cheese, artichoke hearts, spinach & sundried tomato topped with mozzarella and baked until bubbly. They served this beauty on a bed of spring mix drizzled heavily with balsamic glaze. And, since I love balsamic, I adored every bite! Then, we had a Mighty Meaty, add shrooms & extra mozzarella. I could eat just one slice before I settled for nibbling on the outer crust. It was good, so good. The crust, which we did ask for crispy, was perfect. Lots of choice ingredients so you get full fast! It is a bit pricey, but we did order a lot of food. We had 4 large pieces left to bring home- thank goodness we have a pizza stone for that night time reheat! I was impressed with the amounts of beverages on tap and attentive wait staff. Coming in to the place on Tuesday evening it was nice and with a small crowd. Upon entering there is a pretty cool statue with which I promptly took a selfie. The lighting was dim to add to the ambiance of a quiet evening. We were greeted at the door with a lady who just seem like she was not having a good day. We were seated at a table but requested a booth which the lady nicely directed us to one which was nice. She did seem a little irritated, but was willing to comply. After just a few seconds, we were greeted by our waiter. He was a nice young man and very knowledgable. We have never eaten here so we asked for a suggestion. He offered his favorites and we took him up on it. We ordered some cheese bread to tidy us over until the hand-made pizzas reached its destination. When the server left, we were greeted by another man. This man was running the trivia game that night. He was nice to explain the rules and explain that it was free to participate. Even though our visit was meant to be short, we decided to stay and play. Our cheese bread arrived and ibwas slightly disappointed. It just looked like Walmart bought bread with just mozzarella cheese on top. Boringly, plain and boringly bland. It was a good thing we decided to panticipate with trivia night. The pizza itself took longer than I would expect. We were about half way through the trivia night before it finally arrived. Upon its arrival it appeared fairly overcooked. Crust was hard and the toppings were scarce. The one good thing about it was the cheese. It was stringy, strong, and thick. I let made me wonder if it was the same cheese on the cheese bread because it felt as they were two different consistencies. Towards the end of the night, the trivia game ended. The trivia night was the most enjoyable section. I do plan on visiting again as I enjoyed the atmosphere. I was really surprised by how much I enjoyed Mellow Mushroom. The place has so much charm though, it's hard to not be enamored with the entire experience. The place had a mural on the outside wall featuring slices of pizza. What's not to love? Once we were seated (very quickly) we started looking over the menu it was almost overwhelming with all the enticing choices. I ended up going with a chicken curry pizza that was very delicious. I would definitely like to try this place again. Also, if you go, be sure to try the spinach salad. Very tasty! read more

The Mellow Mushroom is a small chain of pizza places, but it's definately NOT your typical chain pizza place. I was here with my daughter back in January and we had sandwiches, so not even the pizza they are known for. It was good enough for a return visit. I was out running errands the day before Thanksgiving and on my way home passed by Mellow Mushroom. I decided to try some pizza. They come in three sizes. four slice, six slice and 8 slice. I just went with the 10" four slice pizza. The Funky Q. Chicken. Big pieces of chicken, full strips of meaty bacon, caramelized onion, a bbq sauce base and lots of really good cheese. And that crust????? I usually prefer thin crust pizza, which basically this was, but it's a bit thicker and chewy. But oh so good! I ate three of my four slices quickly. Saved the other slice, and even cold, it was still great. Any college student will tell you cold pizza is a good thing, but it is really true of this one. They have many different pizzas with red sauce, pesto base and even white pizza, plus lots of good sandwiches (I had the club with caramelized onions previously), salads and various other offerings. They have vegetarian and GLUTEN FREE options as well. I will go back, just for that crust alone. read more

This place used to be a favorite. Lately, I think management has changed and not for the good. The bar is out of most mixers and beer selection has been significantly reduced. Sad to say that the food quality had taken a hit as well. Really hope the owner steps up as we won't be going back unless there are some changes. read more

Wow. Just left this place after waiting an hour for our pizza and being told by our waitress that it would be AT LEAST 10 more minutes, probably more. Which basically means, they haven't started it yet. We asked for our check for our drinks and salads and our waitress didn't even blink, like it was totally normal, no explanation. When I told her we've been here an hour, she apologized and said they don't usually have this many tables on a Sunday night, and didn't properly staff up. Well, the kitchen looked like there were 10 people back there all bustling around. Looked like enough staff to me and when we came in there were only about 3 tables full. Wow! I cannot believe I waited so long to try this place! It is GREAT! Service, food, and atmosphere were top-notch. You are greeting upon entering and you are guided to a table. We asked for a specific booth and the employee was happy to accommodate. The dining area is very large and there are plenty of comfortable tables and booths. There are smaller, two person tables near the windows, seats at the bar, and larger tables for big groups. The booths will easily seat at least six people. The menu is a bit different than I remember seeing online. The week day specials are: 1) single slice with one topping + side salad + drink 2) two slices with one topping + drink 3) half a hoagie + chips + drink 4) something with soup and salad I ordered the two-slice lunch special and I added a full house salad. Wow was it a lot of food. I was not expecting the slices to be so HUGE! Slice #1 had a triple mushroom mix. It was great! The crust is nice and crisp on the bottom but light and soft inside. The crust is fairly thin and it has a good buttery, garlic seasoning on the rim. The slice had a very generous amount of mozzarella. The mushroom medley was GREAT! Slice #2 had grilled chicken. They were very generous with the chicken and it was very clean, high-quality white chicken chunks. I liked it very much but the mushroom was my favorite of the two. By the way, you can add additional toppings to the lunch special slice for $.50 so next time I will probably go mushroom and chicken together. The full house salad was pretty big, served in a 10-inch bowl. It had large shavings of Parmesan, black olives, onions, tomatoes, and a lettuce mix. Very good! Excellent! read more
