The food is okay but the prices are high and the wait is extremely long even when not busy and a small order (two items). Not sure how multiple people came in after me and ordered and received their food first. I still tipped $4 on a $25 order and was a bit frustrated when I was asked to come back and pay an additional $2.15 for extra bacon, because they had initially forgot to charge me and the cook had to whisper to the other worker to charge me. Prior to Owner / Management change we used to go here at least two times a week. I'm not sure of everything that changed, but it is not good anymore we have have tried half a dozen times since the change and each time we have been let down - 1st issue that really messes up your appetite is when you walk in it does not smell like a great NY sandwich shop anymore - now when you walk in it smells like pine sol or some cleaning solution .. service is not friendly anymore - quality has went down substantially- mayo is different - sandwiches just not good anymore - I'm so disappointed it was the only great sub shop close to me that was actually great :( wish it would go back as it once was ! I have ordered a BLT before with no problem. Today my husband was just in there and had asked for a BLT. They said because it wasn't on the menu anymore, they couldn't make it. They couldn't put bacon, lettuce and tomato on bread. I stopped by just after 7am and was the first customer of the day. The young lady that was working was very nice. Several choices but I chose the Jalapeño Cheddar Sausage and the Chorizo. She said two would fill me up and she was right on that. Can't say enough about how good they were. They tasted fresh and really good flavor. The sausage wasn't too spicy and the chorizo was awesome. Short version, this is a place that appears to be dedicated to the Chicago street cuisine though certainly it has some local flair such as frito pies and for breakfast tacos available while they last. I spent a summer going back and forth from Dallas to Chicago in 2000, Naperville to be exact and have great respect for local favorites there. This is not a five-star you have to try it place, but a five star for what they present themselves to be and for the food I tried and the service attitude. My daughter had a late weeknight softball game and so we decided we would try someplace new near the field she played at that night. Enter Joey O's, which I chose because I saw they do subs and there's something simple and delicious about a sub sandwich, and so many variations you can make depending on the mood. From the start, the place is clean and has the look of a local neighborhood to go shop, though they have four or five tables and TVs to sit and dine. Menu is posted on a wall and the diversity of it certainly caught my attention. My daughter immediately drifted to the meatball sandwich and no surprise there as she's 10. You can choose 6" or 12" sandwiches. The bread I'd say is a little stiffer than the soft subway style bread but fine. I figured since the name of the shop was Joey O's I'd try the Joey O's Italian sandwich. The meatball sandwich is super simple with cheese and meatballs covered in tomato sauce. But that's the way my daughter likes it so thumbs up. Similar to other sandwich shops they have a set list of toppings they put on and you can tell them what you like and don't like. In my opinion I love the flavor, but they drown it a bit with the vinegar and oil. Makes for a mushy sandwich next day if you ordered the 12" in anticipation of lunch the next day. They have a list of several different styles of hot dog. Recalling my time in Chicago I gave that a go and was pleasantly surprised. The bright green relish and the peppers added really gave me that feeling of a hot dog dragged through the garden. I could have eaten with my hands but it's covered and smothered enough with toppings that utensils was the best idea. Again was a great call to order that. Dog was grilled or at least had grill marks. They also had frito pie for like $3 so of course my daughter and I couldn't resist one of our family favorites. It was good. As you might expect from a place like this and the price, it's canned meat chili with cheese over top. Simple and ballpark style, but hit the spot. I'd be up for trying other things on the menu in the future, especially their Chicago-style food. Service was with good attitude and the hanging jerseys on the wall from different local schools is always a nice touch. Overall love the simplicity of a small local restaurant that knows it's niche and also adds some local favorites to boot. Total was about $25 or so including the register checkout tip so pretty good for two sandwiches, frito pie, and a Chicago dog, Worth a trip. read more

Joey O's has been a family favorite since we moved to Denton in 2019. Not only is service extraordinary, I get to speak my native language with the ladies. I now have been here 3 times and I have been wowed by their sandwiches twice and today was my first encounter with their breakfast tacos, which just for your info they serve them M-Sat 7am until they run out. Duuuudeeee they were sooo good, we ordered 2 sausage and 4 brisket breakfast tacos for the two of us.. every part of the breakfast taco was delightful.. they consist of flour tortilla, real eggs, delicious sausage (bbq style not typical breakfast sausage, which was a game changer!) shredded cheese, and they give you this little container of salsa to add to your burrito if you want, and holy guacamole it adds even more flavor to an already delicious breakfast taco.. and the only difference with the other taco is a tender brisket which is also perfection! They are very generous with the amount they give you, they look small but they are packed and almost impossible to hold without goodies falling out of the tortilla.
