29. Combination Fried Rice

The food was not flavorful or good when I tried to explain and get another option i was denied.

As a Vietnamese person, I've been WAITING for a good pho restaurant to come to Denton. I grew up in Plano, so I could get pho everywhere around me or drive a little bit to Garland for some delicious bowls. Once Pho Asian Star in Corinth closed, I've been so bummed - especially since we recently moved to Sanger, so Lewisville is too far of a drive. I've been reading reviews of Linh's Kitchen, but didn't see any reviews by Vietnamese people, so I was nervous to try a new place. Let me just say - I'm SO glad I did. The photos online already looked delicious and it tasted as great as it looked. I could eat pho for breakfast, lunch and dinner and I could definitely eat it from Linh's Kitchen. Luckily, I work nearby, so I know I'll be back frequently!

So glad we did. We walked in and we were instantly greeted and I'm assuming they could tell we were new to the whole process so they gladly explained the menu and such. Ernest was so friendly and personable, definitely a breath of fresh air when you can tell someone enjoys their job. I ordered the Captain America Tea the Cookies-n-Cream Protein Shake and my boyfriend got the Tigers Blood Tea and the White Chocolate Snickers Protein Shake. Of course we sampled each other's. All four items we ordered were perfection, it didn't feel like I was getting anything with a ton of artificial flavors in it. Very impressed with the whole experience. The price seems kinda steep but when you taste the quality of ingredients they use you won't even think twice about it. The decor was fresh and the place was very clean. I really like the whole setup they have going. I am definitely excited about my next visit.

There's a ton of options to chose from and they're guilt free if you're on a fitness journey because of the variety offered. This will be my new go to spot. Love the loyalty punch cards they give!

Drove by last weekend and saw a brand new, painted building next to the Sonic. Sunday we stopped in because my husband wanted to give them a chance. We went through the drive thru and the menu was way larger than we expected! I was expecting maybe a dozen types of smoothies and possibly a few snacks, but the menu is very large. We asked for a to go menu at the window so we could look at it without the rush of a car waiting behind us. I was full, so I didn't want to order anything. My husband was in a grape mood, but didn't see anything with grape, so we went with the Blueberry Bliss which is blueberry, strawberry and banana. There appears to be only one size of smoothie, it was $5.69 for that particular drink, $6.17 with tax. Not going to lie, as soon as I saw that price I figured we were going to get screwed over with a tiny smoothie. However, while waiting for our smoothie at the window I saw smoothies being delivered to tables and they all looked to be about 24 oz. The lady at the drive thru was very polite and despite how busy they appeared inside, I don't think the wait was more than 5 or 6 minutes. With our receipt we were given a coupon, good until 8/1/22, that offers a 24 oz smoothie for $1.99 with purchase of a food item. They also have an app for reward points and you can get a free smoothie after your first purchase if you download it. While I have always thought $5-6 for a smoothie was too much, and inflation isn't going to change my mind on that, I have to admit it turned out to be a better deal than we originally thought. First, it was clear they were using real fruit and not a lot of extra sugar, which resulted in a delicious, light and refreshing drink on a hot day. Second, we ended up splitting the smoothie and only got through half of it right away. Later, I saw that it still had the smoothie consistency and wasn't melted or warm. You could potentially nurse this thing for hours. That does offer a draw for me. One of the main reasons I don't do smoothies too often is I usually can't finish them before they get all watery and I try to avoid wasting food if I can help it. I did see that they had kid size options that are 12 oz, more my speed, especially if I get it with food. But they only had 3 options that size, so maybe not the best selection for someone with my typical grazing habits. I went back and looked at the menu later. The smoothies are separated by veggie, fruit blends, tropical and balanced fusions (acai, oats, peanut butter, chia, etc). There were about 20 options. They do offer supplements and add-in's, but I didn't actually notice that when we went through the first time and would only do that if I was substituting an entire meal with a smoothie. They offer flatbreads, wraps, sandwiches, salads and quesadillas. There are a few options for each and the flavor combinations seemed varied and some were quite interesting. It appears to mostly be chicken, a couple turkey options, a plant based substitute and vegetarian options. Items are listed by calories and if they are gluten free, vegetarian or plant based. That alone makes me think they will do very well in Denton. I'm not any of those things, but it's important to know what you're getting, especially if you have allergies. The kids menu and breakfast were all $5 or less, the lunch items seemed to be $6-8. The sides were under $2. After our experience with their smoothie, this seems like a good deal. However, until I try their food I honestly have no idea if their portions are worth it. I will have to update once I have tried more items. This was my first visit to any location, so I am not sure how they compare to others in the chain, but it was a pretty good first impression and I like having these offerings in this convenient location.

Once we got to the front of the line next to the window, we see the employees making videos, laughing and avoiding any sort of contact with the drive thru window. That was enough for us to drive away and not make us want to come back to a business that does not prioritize what they are paid to do, much less want to attend customers.

This is my new go-to casa for elotes and mangonadas!…read more Following my maps on my phone I was confused as I pulled into La Azteca, a wonderful little Mexican grocery store that I have been to many times. But I headed inside, and there is all it's glory, is a tiny little stand called Fruteria PaTi. Go ahead and pull up a stool and look over their simple but diverse menu. You will be greeted by an extremely kind and friendly staff member who will answer and questions and become your new best friend. (Every time I have been I have been blown away with how personable they are.) We always get an order of elotes preparado, and I would strongly recommend that you do too. They use fresh, piping hot corn, sweet butter, sour cream, cheese, and chipotle powder to create a power packed cup of greatness that reminds me of elotes vendors on the streets of downtown Cancun. They also have really tasty mangonadas. If you have never had one, this is a fresh mango drink with chili powder and a chili candy attached to the straw. It's definitely not for everyone, but you should give it a try. The mango is sweet and creamy, but packs a spicy punch. They have lots of other items that I want to try today, but the elotes are so good that it's hard to order anything else. If you are in the mood for a delicious, authentic Mexican treat than you need to check this place out!
