Yesterday (Jan. 22nd) Natural Grocers opened up in Denton and Yes, the parking lot was full, as was CVS' parking lot next door. What do you expect, it's a new place and Dentonites are a curious people. First off, it's a health food grocery store, so lots of organic fruits and veggies, soy this and tofu that and vitamins, lotions and remedys as far as the eyes can see, if you have 20/20 vision. Besides that they have your standard fare with ready to eat meals including vegetarian, gluten-free, vegan and raw, healthy beverages, buffalo meat, Bavarian yogurt, pickles, everything Annie's Organic makes, soy ice cream and bacon! As with most groceries of this nature the prices are a little steeper but some were basically the same as your Target or Krogers and a few items even lower. Haas avocados were only .79, and the spices come in plastic bags so they were also quite a bit cheaper. And they had some spices that you don't find in large grocery stores too. Cardamom and fenugreek were just two of the rarer ones. Nuts were kept in the cooler (insert double entandre here) and you can get rolled oats in bags the size of dog food bags, if you really need it. In the back of the store there is a demonstration kitchen and there were people out with samples all over the place. The staff was very friendly and always offering assitance. I believe this will be a welcome addition to Denton, but also competition to the Cupboard, the other health food store in Denton, but as Denton expands, there's always room for one more. Enjoy, and support Denton businesses.

When you enter, you are greeted with that health food store smell that I can never identify. I'm not great with mysteries unless we're talking about books, but I'll accept it. Produce is the first thing you come across and there is a sign stating they proudly serve only organic produce. That's cool, I can dig it! Then you come to the meats, dairy and ice cream and my brain starts telling me to get out, get out! The prices are much higher on grocery items than you will find at most stores. $7.19 for a gallon of milk?? $5.85 for a pint of ice cream? I didn't even know they had organic ice cream until yesterday. The meat was two and three times higher than I'm used to seeing in a grocery store. I also think $56 for a bag of dog food is way excessive. A straight comparison to another health food store like the Cupboard shows their prices to be less though. Sticker shock aside, I think this is a cool place for several reasons. This is a place that can easily cater to people with allergies, gluten free diets and is an especially good option for vegetarians. If you have any skin irritations or sensitivities then the laundry detergent, cleaners and lotions here are probably going to be better for you than anything you'll find in a mass merchandiser. In regards to the grocery side of things, their produce seemed reasonable and organic produce is a strong draw. We also got coconut water for a really good price as it was on sale, so that does encourage me to check out the sales on future visits. Though the bags of dog food were excessive, the dog treats were much more reasonable and I was really impressed to see only items made in the USA and Canada in that section, nice! My dogs are obsessed with the Good Buddy treats made in the USA. I have never seen a larger selection of vitamins and supplements- not at Sprouts and not at the Cupboard. There were aisles and aisles of them and they were reasonably priced. They also had a great selection of essential oils that would give Drug Emporium a run for their money. I was glad to run across that. We also found some great handmade soap that was a good deal. They also had a health and therapy section that included candles, Burts Bees products and a really interesting neck massager. I was glad to see yoga mats at a good price as mine is getting worn. It was also fun to see handmade Nepalese bags. They have a Community Center up front, opposite of the entrance. There are tables, a couple of couches, coffee and coloring for the kids. That's a nice touch, I appreciate that. I was also really interested to see they have a demonstration kitchen in the back! It was closed up while we were there, but I'm really curious now and plan to check out their website for events. Too bad they don't have a café like some of the similar stores, I would be interested to see their offerings. There's a decent Grab n Go section by the registers. When my husband went before they charged him for a bag without telling him the price. That bothers me. It's fine that they want you to bring your own bags, but let your customers make an informed decision on their own. When we both went yesterday, I had to specifically ask as they are not labeled with prices. I know I'll be back because they apparently have a bulk food section and I don't know how I missed it, but I look forward to those finds!

All for less than $40. Happy happy happy! Lol.

Great spot for most groceries. Not a big store but they have most staples. The fruits and veggies were fresh.

I was surprised to see a second location already open in Denton, especially since that's 2 out of…read morethe 3 total locations (Hurst being the other). However, I will say that this location is much easier to get to and navigate. I stopped in last week as I was curious how they may differ from the one on I35. I had also been researching and trying out different CBD creams and I wanted a closer comparison of size, potency and price. This location has a great atmosphere and has been painstakingly decorated and arranged. Frankly, it's adorable. I think they've made good use of their limited space and manage to display a range of products. There were two people working when I arrived on a Friday afternoon and they gave me their full attention. I got the impression that they were eager to have a customer to assist, so though there were times they seemed a little pushy on the upselling, I really think it's because they are excited to see people in their store. They've only been open since December, so I'm not sure how many people even realize they are here. They have mostly American Shaman products, which I am discovering are more expensive and not necessarily as effective as several other brands I've tried. However, I won't dock a star for that simply because Denton doesn't have a lot of options right now and you have to travel quite a distance to get a medical grade product or a cheaper price. They are filling a gap and that's an appreciated convenience. Besides, that's not the only brand they carry, they supplement with other products for categories not supplied by American Shaman. They have quite a variety and I think the potency will work for most people. I am only looking for something stronger due to the severity of a chronic pain condition. Many people utilize CBD for anxiety, sleeplessness, focus, temporary pain and regular discomfort. I see no reason why this wouldn't work in those cases. I feel this location has more to offer than the first one. Or perhaps the staff is more knowledgeable and knows to ask the necessary questions to show you the right product. When I asked about their creams, they asked if I wanted it for pain or for moisturizing. When I asked about the gummies, they asked if I wanted it for daytime or nighttime- those options weren't given to me at the other location. I noticed they had multiple dosages and quantities of the gummies compared to the I35 location. I also saw soap, honey and other products besides the normal tinctures of oil and jars of cream. They have a program called MicroDaily in which you get military grade micronutrients every day As far as my experience with the products go, I've only tried a sample of their equine cream, a sample of their Cloud oil and several types of gummies. The cream is $110 for 2 ounces and the sample is $8. The CBD oils range but seem to be around $60. They suggested that my condition was too severe for the cream I had previously tried and recommended I switch to CBD oil. I told them about my consultation at the other location and though many of the oils are water soluble, they suggested the Cloud was organic and gentle on the stomach. They put a sample in a water bottle (kind gesture) and instructed me to consume the contents within 5 minutes of starting. It didn't do anything, but don't despair- I'm a hot mess and what doesn't work for me may work for you. :) I was interested in the gummies because they help with sleep and I've had insomnia for several decades. Their 5 pack for $10 was the first one I tried. It did make me yawn after an hour, but it didn't help me stay asleep. After having success with another brand, I decided to try their 25mg pack for $16. They were sour and helped me sleep an extra hour or so longer than the first ones. I was glad I went with a small pack instead of spending $70 on a bottle. They also have Hemp Bomb capsules, which I am considering trying next and would be the most effective option they offer. This place is expensive so I strongly suggest you start with samples and small packs before committing to any one product. However, CBD has a lot of benefits and for those who need it, I'm glad this cute little shop is here. I am continuing to research and compare brands, but I will probably come here if I run out or want to try something new. This shop is great, the staff is helpful and they fill a void in Denton. I may be looking for something else, but I do need to acknowledge and give that extra star because they are providing a service nobody else in town can.

When entering, I was wearing a heavy coat, which was quite warm. I also had a backpack, on top of the items I was carrying. While shopping, I placed all of these items (coat, backpack) into a shopping cart to ease the strain on my lower back and abdomen (I have a hernia). I then purchased some oatmeal, peanut butter, and mixed greens. Immediately after the using the self-checkout, I realized I forgot to check if a brand of rice was on sale. I pushed my cart- including the items I had already purchased, double-bagged- to the rice aisle. After loading the rice into the shopping cart (not into any plastic bag, mind you) I was immediately approached by Store Manager Allen Cosby, who said "you can't just be walking around here like that with your bags in the cart." I stated that I was carrying them in the cart because I had a hernia condition. He said that I still can't be "walking around like this is your home" and that I need just "get in and get out"- despite the fact that I had only been in the store a few minutes- and that I was causing too much work for the loss prevention team. I returned the rice I was going to purchase to the shelf, and returned the items I had just purchased. Prior to this incident, I had frequently patronized the store, and never been accused of anything like this. Although most of the employees are nice, it appears that management has a different idea on how to treat customers. As Kroger Store Manager, Allen Cosby put it, "I see you here everyday, you're a homeless jack that don't have a job, so I'm going to go ahead and have you removed right now."
