They are more worried about not using your cellphone and making sure you have an FOID than helping customers. The gentleman at the door asking for FOIDs is about as personable as a box of rocks. There are people working there not doing anything and you have to stand in line to get helped. I stood there nobody helped me so I left. I honestly can't understand how they are still in business when all they do is find reasons not to help paying customers. read more

I write this review as a sales man myself. Noah and Nick both very knowledgeable, personable, and excellent sales men. I appreciate their service and knowledge. The store has an excellent inventory. The service is great. I feel this store has a low rating because people are unreasonably impatient. My only constructive critique would be that I wish anyone would at least great, acknowledge and address every customer that come in the door as if they were a regular customers (This is training that I have receive as a customer service rep.) If it is is busy, I would wish the staff addresses the all customers and let them know that it is busy and that they have not been forgotten. Additionally, that the staff should mention to every the customer (even the front register person) that they will be attended to once the very long, and understandable process of purchasing a firearm is resolved and finished. I want anyone reading this that purchasing a firearm is a long and reasonable process in accordance to the law. No law abiding citizen would want anyone (a bad guy) to purchase a firearm at a speedy rate merely for the sake of convenience. That would be irresponsible! For this, thanks to Mega Sports for helping me purchase my firearm. read more

Mega sports more like mega disappointment, staff ignores you, doesn't even ask if you would like to see anything gives a dead eyes look at every chance, the only one who did asked had a attitude like if he hates his job, guns are overpriced way beyond belief, Mosin nagant for $420? Think again , waste of time if any thought of going here comes to mind, been to plenty of stores all around Illinois and this is the worst one , takes the cake so far, the only positive thing of my whole experience was that gas at the speedway next door was 2.11. read more

I've been been here a few times even before their big remodel a few years ago. I'd have to agree with other reviews, the staff is flat out rude. We used the range and before entering I had to fill out a form listing my firearms experience. I'm a veteran so I listed all of the weapons we used in the military. I think that actually pissed the range guy off. He had me demonstrate how to hold a plastic practice pistol to demonstrate my abilities...really dude?? OVER PRICED AND RUDE STAFF....NO REASON TO RETURN. read more

I saw the reviews and got nervous. For all the negative reviews, I didn't see anything wrong with this place. First time gun owner and I was greeted properly and I spent hours with the gentlemen going over different things. He helped me a lot! Then went to the range to fire numerous weapons before deciding what I wanted. They showed me everything (how to clean, store, etc) and even added some accessories on my handgun at no additional cost. I would go back here again and purchase because they were all 5 stars in my book! read more

Bad customer service, did not know if it was racism or something else. But after reading the reviews it is just pure bad customer service. I am glad I went though, just to see the gun that I want to order somewhere else. Do not go here. This place should have been out of business awhile ago. read more

I had my foid but my dad is waiting for his renewal, which we showed the expired foid and the renewal paperwork. They won't let you come in if you are still waiting for the new card. Wtf. I believe cards are still valid during the pandemic by pritzker's emergency declaration. The manager even came over. He said that declaration is done. To hell with this sh*thole. We went to Range USA. They had no problem with us looking around. And WTF is megasports problem if someone answers a phone call?? No cell phone usage. GTFOH read more

Haven't been here for a few years. I am considering a new Dan Wesson 1911 it sounds like I'll go elsewhere. Do the counter guys still carry out in the open? They aren't cops so why? read more

I don't understand the bad customer service reviews. I was here mid-day on a Thursday and had amazing customer service. There was a cute girl who greeted me at the door. She knew right where to go for what I was looking for. Probably 4-5 staff on duty, ALL asked me if I needed any help. VERY HELPFUL. Amazing experience and I found what I needed and then some. Prices were average. Way better than Bass Pro. Maybe these folks that had bad experiences went in with a bad attitude. I will be back! read more

Salesmen didn't even know what type of gun I was looking for, claimed he'd never heard of it. The manager did correct him but it was weird buying a gun from someone who didn't know anything about them. I drove over to Bass Pro, they knew what I wanted and had it in stock for much cheaper. Guns are not to be messed with. Don't hire employees at a gun shop that don't know about guns. read more

So, I have 2 sons who went to Mega Sport to buy shotgun shells for a hunting trip. They are 19 and 23 years old. They get carded for a FOID on entry and they tell the 19 year old that even though he has a foid he can't come in because he's not 21. He's annoyed, but they still need shells. Asks his brother to get him a couple boxes of shells. The employee escorts my son to the back, where he picks out some boxes of shells and starts walking to the register. Same employee then tells him he can't buy the shells because he knows he's getting them for the other kid. Keep in mind, he's treating this like a straw purchase, even though they are both perfectly legal to purchase ammunition. Both of these kids are completely polite and decent kids, it wasn't that their behavior had the employee reaching for a reason to get them out of the store. Now, I've known about how this place treats people for years. I have told them to buy elsewhere. Now my boys know and will never return. No idea how this place remains open when customers are so often treated terribly. Please stop supporting this business. read more

You can have a great selection of guns for sale but without customer service this place might as well be a pawn shop. Most of the help are assholes.Been that way for years.I have spent thousands of dollars over time with other local smaller shops that really make you feel like a customer. That's key in my book. read more

God forbid you're from out of state. Not every state requires a FOID card so why would anyone from out of state have one? You literally can't enter the store to browse without one. You can SHOOT at Range 355 without one. They're just choosing to be ignorant and lose business. Weak, dumb business. read more

Read the reviews and went in with an open mind. Place has an awesome selection. I had to pause as I walked in "holy shit I had never seen so many guns." The sales person I worked with was extremely helpful. I ended up buying a different gun then what I had researched online before I got there. I had to take away one star away from this review. They have a ton of self imposed rules that they strictly adhere to, even beyond what the state asks for that do detract from the experience. At the end of the day it's their house, so either follow them or don't shop there. Despite this I'll definitely come back to check out the guns. Skip the range way to many restrictions on that as well. read more

Never fails. In the store, customer service is excellent. On the phone, these are some of the rudest people you will ever encounter.

Wish I could give 0 stars. That is how bad this place is. Rude people, woman at the front thinks she is protecting nuclear secrets and talks to people like they are here 4 year old children. In Illinois you have to have a FOID card in order to have a CCL. For the past 8 years the state has said you do not need to carry both and that a CCL can be used IN PLACE of a foid for the purposes of buying ammo, Firearms, etc. I was prepared to buy a high end $2000 firearm and was at another local store and showed my CCL and tested several firearms but wanted to see what Mega Sports had before I bought. I drove 30 mins down to megasports only to be stopped at the door and demanded my FOID. I explained I dont have my FOID because I have a CCL. the woman at the front with the puss on her face told me a CCL was not a FOID and would not let me in. I turned around went back to the other store and gave them $2000 in cash for my new gun. It had been several years since I had been to Megasports and that experience reminded me as to why I dont go there. STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE!!!!! too many other gun shops in the area with nice cordial staff that understand the laws of illinois with out trying to inconvenience their customers. read more

I read all the bad reviews and decided to go after all because I had been there years ago and liked the big selection. Huge store and lots of guns but they wouldn't let me see any. I told the guy at the front what I wanted and he pointed at the end of the counter as to where they were but would not take any down. He said he was alone at the counter and could'nt help me. I looked around and when I saw two people at the counter I asked him again if he could show me a gun he said I had to wait in line. All the reviews are right I would never set foot in this place again . read more

Don't go to this store if you are black or brown. They won't even let you in the door. My boyfriend and I were given a bogus excuse. We knew they didn't want to let us in. We are in our 50's and know when we're being discriminated. We went elsewhere to spend our money. read more

Looking to buy my first gun and spend a decent amount of money. Waited fifteen minutes to be told I can't even hold any firearms I'm interested in without my physical foid card .. even though I have a valid foid and could prove that to them. Great help guys! I would highly suggest going to a local shop that provides a lot more help and will actually just speak to u like a person who's trying to buy something from them. read more

Don't shop here. The guys who work here are douchebags. Plain and simple. They cut off your questions, think they know more than you and are rude. Go literally anywhere else. read more

Hands down the worst place in/around Chicago to buy a firearm. The staff is extremely unfriendly, doesn't have a very good handle on the products they sell and now they will not even allow you in the store without a FOID card (which is way beyond the laws in Illinois). Their prices are not great either so if you are looking to buy there are MUCH better places to go to (ie GAT Guns). I would avoid. read more

Make sure you're an Illinois resident WITH a FOID card.... That's the only way you'll gain entry. :( Would be nice to put that on their website, instead of traveling over 60 miles, one way to be turned away at the door. Thanks for nothing, and will not ever go back, nor recommend to anyone. read more

Ive read the bad reviews and had talked to people that love the place so i decided to check it out for myself when looking to buy my VP40. The staff is rude if they dont just flat out ignore you. There were only 5 people in the store when I was there and I could not get anyone to wait on me. Maybe they just didn't like me but 2 other people were also getting the same treatment so I decided to wait it out. I saw them treat a woman like she was stupid when all she was doing was asking good questions. When my turn for abuse came it started with them not even wanting to talk about selling a vp40 . They didnt have one at the time so they kept asking me why I wanted a VP40 and I should get a 9mm instead, even though I told them i already have a 9 ... Seriously? Needless to say, I finally had to leave because the arrogant dude behind the counter was only going to sell me what he wanted to. Out in the parking lot I ran into the woman who they were treating like crap earleir and she was PO'ed at them as well. I suggested she check out a shop in Lockport. Even though there is a wait there she will be treated like a human being. Im yet another reviewer that won't be spending money at Megajunk. ..Not that they care because they definitely don't. read more

What a bunch of dicks. Forget this place. Guy at the front door was extremely rude and extremely unfriendly. I immediately wanted to fight the guy for being such a jerk. We went to Mega Sports last night to shoot at their range based on the special they've been advertising on Facebook recently where you can rent one lane with two people for $24, which also prompted this review. We arrived at 7:00 and they're open until 9:00. The entire reason we went was so my girlfriend could try out my new .22, but they require everyone who steps on to the range to have an active FOID card. (I've never been anywhere with this policy, so I didn't even bother to check. Every range I've been to is fine with one person having a FOID and one not.) We say no big deal, she's got a FOID card that went active a couple days ago that just hasn't arrived in the mail yet that you can verify online. No dice either, they have to have it in hand. They also have all sorts of weird rules regarding specific brands of ammunition you're allowed to use, and you can only shoot targets you get from Mega Sports. So unless you've got their specific approved ammo and their specific approved targets, you're SOL. Stranger yet, they straight up close their range an hour before the store closes (like, the range is closed, not they stop letting new people out to shoot) so the guy running the range then explains that if I hurry up and do all my paperwork, I can shoot for "maybe" a half hour... Charging me their full normal hourly price, with no mention of the special. I'm not going to pay $22 or whatever for the privilege of buying some of their ammo and their targets to shoot for 30 minutes, that's just crazy. Normally I'd say this sort of experience would make me say I'm not coming back to Mega Sports, but their retail side is just ridiculous. They stock basically every gun you could think of, in every color and finish it comes in, with rare exception. They've also got a stupid amount of gun safes, and all the associated gear you could think of between every conceivable type of holster, knives, bags, and even tissue boxes you can hide a gun in. Their selection is insane. Prices are pretty good too. They're not as good as internet pricing, but no brick and mortar store ever is. Depending on shipping costs, Mega Sports seems to come out pretty close though. The problem, however, is that they've got such a massive store and so few people working in it. The times I've been there, there's been around three people behind the counter, which for such an immense store really just isn't enough. It'd be cool if they had some kind of number system for when they get busy, like the deli at the grocery store, as if you stop in on a weekend and want to look at a specific gun, you've either got to be lucky that it's near someone you were able to grab, or have a ton of time to wait. read more

I'll never spend money there again. Staff is mostly rude and very condescending. EXPENSIVE to shoot. $44 for my wife and I to use 1 stall for 1 hour. Wouldn't let me shoot steel case ammo (it was fine last time) that I brought so had to spend $17 per 50 9mm. Cost me $100 for about an hour. I asked to see a ruger and the salesman instead quizzed me before I could even hold it. Mega Bucks won't get more from me. read more

What a terrible experience it was to go into this store. I was the only woman in the store and was ignored for almost 10 mins while I waited to see a pistol. My phone rang while I was waiting and as I grabbed it to silence it, I was screamed at the it says on the door I can't use my phone in the store. Um, ok wasn't using the phone and when I looked at the sign it said no photos. When it was finally my turn the guy was very demeaning and acted like I was not good enough for his store. I knew what gun I wanted, it would have been an easy sale. Instead I walked out and bought it at gander mountain. Skip this pompous place and go anywhere else. I was treated well at gander mountain and told me I was one of many people who complained about how awful they treat customers. read more

Stay away from this place! Went in to look for a new piece and took a picture of one that I liked to send to my wife, when Mark the owner walked by and said " delete that picture off your phone right now" in a very rude tone and manner! So I did. Then he told me to put my phone away or get out of his store, which completely through me off I don't know what his problem is but that is not how you speak to customers or anyone else. If he would of spoke to me like a gentleman there would of been no issues but he was just a complete asshole and I will be taking my business elsewhere. I get it if you don't want pictures take in your establishment and I respect that but it's all about how you handled the situation which was completely unprofessional. read more

Mega Sports when from a decent size store to a huge store roughly two years ago. The biggest disappointment is that they didn't expand their range, however their gun stock has become pretty impressive. While this is my favorite place to window shop, I don't buy here. Their prices are consistently the highest I have seen for any gun you choose. Not outrageous, but consistently 10-20% higher than reasonable online or smaller FFL suppliers, granted they have a lot more overhead to deal with than most of the smaller guys do. If you are a gun person, it is a great place to spend some time browsing, but if you are looking to shoot, there are far better ranges in the area and if you are looking to buy there are far better deals to be had. Also as a note, I went their last week and they did not have a FOID card at the door policy. Either I got lucky or they have done away with this. Granted you still need to display it to touch a firearm, but I wasn't required to show it at the entrance. read more

If you want a friendly comfortable environment to ask questions and look at firearms; this isn't the place. Rich at the door was welcoming, waited around for 30 minutes to no help was skipped multiple times, waiting in line at the door and checked the time on my phone got yelled at and then an intercom came on no phone use in the store. Mega sports is a great store with a huge selection of firearms, knives, survival gear, etc. It also has a shooting range acts gun rental facility. The good: as I said, it has a huge selection of everything you need. The range is neat, clean, with an excellent ventilation system. You can rent your glasses and headphones if need be. In addition, you can rent a gun. If there's a particular gun you're interested in buying, you can test it out by renting it or a similar one on the range. The bad: It's often crowded, particularly on weekends or evenings, especially with Obama continually trying to take guns away. It can be hard to get a salesman sometimes, and you wind up waiting for quite awhile. It also tends to be pricey, not only for guns, but for range rental. The range costs are particularly high. They give a discount for members, but even that's still high. read more

Very POOR RUDE customer service to a women customer (ME)! I Will NEVER go back there again. Women are treated with so much disrespect. After picking up 1 box of 9 mm I went to replace a box of 38 after using mine earlier that day on a new revolver I had never shot before. I called my husband to make sure I was getting the correct ammo. ( Since I could not get anyone to help me in the store). A tall bald man literally came charging at me and yelling from across the store. "Get out of this store! You are NOT allowed to purchase any items in this store!" 15-20 people looking at me I could not understand what I had done to deserve such hateful conduct. Then I thought he was not talking to me?????WRONG!!!!!! Throwing his hands up in the air and yelling at me to "get out of the store NOW!" I looked at him and said " excuse me are you talking to me?" He replied "YES!" as he screamed at me! "Get out!" I asked what had I done? He replied " you used your phone! NO cell phones allowed!!!! I said in a calm voice that I needed to know what ammo to buy for a new revolver I had never used and not one of your employees would help me so I called my husband. He replied " I don't know if your buying for someone else." I said "well maybe you should ask me instead of yelling at me! ". He told me to leave! I did, but not before I told him what I thought about him and his customer service toward women! I can tell you I was in this store in 2014 and was treated rudely then and I said I wouldn't go back ( I purchased $1,800 in firearms and another 400.00 in misc at Cabalas that day). I went in thinking maybe they had changed!!! OMG NO!!!! I know of 5 men that live very close to Mega Sports and they will not go back. I truly hope that if you are a women shooter you will take your business elsewhere. What are they hiding that you can't use your cell phone to make a call? Thats my response to the customer service at Mega Sports in Plainfield Illinois. POOR VERY POOR!!! I did NOT want to give them 1 start but I couldn't post unless I did!!! read more

Super professional sales team, as a female, I never felt they spoke down to me. I have used the range multiple times and purchased my gun from them. I felt I got the best price around for my purchase. Range is super clean and well observed. I am always pleasantly greeted when I enter and usually asked 3 or 4 times if I need assistance when I am looking in the pistol cases. I know they are super cautious as they do not want any trouble with the law. The only reason I didn't rate 5 is that I feel the range is a bit pricey and you cannot bring your own targets. But again, I understand why... they don't want targets that bring the shots too close to the clip. It can destroy it and ricochet. read more

The sales guy I had was super cool and chill, but sadly I can't remember his name. I will probably go back in the future. If I'm going to be completely honest I was not expecting (based on the terrible reviews) to have as good of service as I did. I kinda felt bad for the employees cause they were running around like chickens trying to get everyone taken care of and I would probably be crabby from that too. There also was about 120 people in the store because of all this rioting shit, but honestly they handled it well. P.S. It helps to know what you want going in there. Don't just walk in and say "Can I get a 9mm" when there is like 100 in the store. Do some research and find the right gun and THEN go out and buy it. read more

I have lived in Joliet for 27 years. When Mega sport first opened I bought 500 rounds of. 308 for a shooting day at Buffalo Rock. After firing out of the first box in the case I found that I had problems opening the bolt on my Israeli K98. It turned out that the rounds were defective. These nearly blew my CZ Mauser up. I took them back and they refused a refund or even a store credit. Since then I refuse to even enter the business. They put my life at risk. read more

I recently bought my first gun. I used the range at Mega Sports a few times. I don't have any complaints about the range. I've been there on weekdays when the range was quite and weekends when it's busy. You may have to wait on a weekend day but I've never had a really long wait. I bring my own eye, ear protection, and ammunition otherwise it gets pricey. I haven't bought a gun at mega sports but I've bought cleaning supplies, parts, and ammo. I've never had a grumpy sales guy. If I ever do I'll change my review. Prices here seem good on most things but you can definitely drop some fast money there. It's a good store and range I'll be back again. read more

Great place, prices are definately a bit on the high side. I've had great experiences with customer service here. The people behind the counter treat you right and go out of their way to help you. I haven't had anyone preach to me on their political stance, but I've only been in the store about a half dozen times. I did ask if I bought a pistol from there if they would throw in some free range time or ammo, but unfortunately they wouldn't. I ended up buying my pistol online and shipping it to my FFL, saving about $100. I visited the indoor pistol range and it is quite expensive, it was $26 a person and $1 a target (have to use their targets). They do offer a pro-rated rate of I think $18 for the range fee if you purchase their ammo. If you rent a gun from them you have to use their ammo. For $26 you do get unlimited time which is nice and I was able to sweep my .45 brass up. They have a sign up to not use steel cased ammunition. Most likely because they make more money selling brass ammunition and also scrapping brass or sorting it for reloading takes extra time. I'd have to say the indoor range is nice, well lit and well ventilated. Decently clean, big garbage cans for targets/trash, small cans for brass. read more

Pros: Best Gun range in Chicago, largest selection, decent staff Cons: Proximity to city Mega Sports by far one of the largest selection of handguns/rifles/shotguns of any Chicagoland gun shop. Huge facility with a seemingly endless amount of firearms on display. The range is very nice with carpeted floors, well lit, nicely painted, great ventilation, and electric pulley system. Range is a bit expensive (about $26) but it is an all day pass. You do get a discount if you purchase ammo with them. Nice selection of rentals priced from $10-12 to rent. Staff at the very least will acknowledge you and ask you if you need help (not at like Cabelas or BPS where they ignore you 75% of the time). Prices for firearms are typical of BPS/Cabelas but like mentioned before the selection is far greater. Terrific selection of accessories too. read more
