Very mannerless staff. It is a terrible place to shop for a gun or other items. Staff is also very unknowledgeable about guns & gun laws. They said I needed a firearms card to buy a magazine. Pritzger would love this joint! read more

Complete dump with all sort of psycho rules like not allowing you to bring a phone into the store. Bunch of idiots. Just buy online and have it transferred to you by a local FFL for less. read more

I had a glowing review of this place in 2010, when I first entered the shooting sports, before their big renovation, and before the Obama/post-Sandy Hook days. I've bought a few handguns, a shotgun, and a big, expensive gun safe from them over the years. Those were the days. Fast forward to 2019: After having been to the store in recent years, I dropped my rating to one star. It's just not a pleasant experience there anymore. They have all kinds of strict rules now. They were actually carding people for their FOID card at the door at one time (not sure if they do that any more, but it was enough to dim my view of them). Too bad if your friend or significant other didn't have one. They would not let them in. They make any excuse to call you a straw purchaser. If you even mention anyone who does not have a FOID card to them (like a friend or your spouse), they immediately think you're buying a gun to give to them, even if you never even mentioned that. They are all certifiably paranoid. The range won't let you bring your own targets, and no photography or video (can't even take a simple photos to show friends of your day at the range). I used to take photos of my wife shooting, but now you can't even have your cell phone out in the range or anywhere in the store, even just to look up information on a product. You're basically guilty of being a potential criminal or straw purchaser the second you walk in the door. Yes, they still have a massive selection, but their prices are the highest around. They get pissy if you want to compare different guns because they won't let you see more than one or two guns from the same counter, at a time. Some of their sales people know nothing but act like they do, and others are just plain rude. They act like they are doing you a favor by allowing you to shop there, and that you have to kiss their ass if you want service. I now go to almost any other store but this place for my firearm purchases. read more

This place has gotten more and more paranoid over the years. They are rude and overbearing to the point of it being a concern. They demand to see your FOID card when you walk in. This includes any friends or family that you may have with you. In this case, they demanded to see my wife's card as well, or she would not be allowed in. I asked the half-wit at the counter why, and his answer was that "he who holds the FFL gets to make the rules". Well guess what?.... he who holds the cash decided to shop elsewhere, and I recommend others do too. How can you introduce others to something that you enjoy if they can't even walk in the front door???? My wife does indeed have a card, but I refuse to support this type of paranoid, CYA behavior. "The FFL holder" of this place just makes stuff up as he goes along. They also claim that the reason you can't use your cell phone in the store is to try to prevent straw purchases. If someone is going to purchase a gun for someone else, that isn't going to stop them (although it may make it hard for you to check out competitors prices while you're there). Just more bizarre rules made up by an out of touch establishment. I haven't shot at this range for years now because of their rude behavior and also because you cannot pick up your own brass (I reload - and they even sell reloading equipment - how hypocritical!) I don't care if they have a safety concern, or if they are just selling range brass for profit. Picking up the brass I bought from my lane, behind the firing line, should not be their concern. Overall, this is just a rude, bizarre place. Try going to another place to shoot, or buy guns. Plenty of others nearby without the rude attitude and behavior. Or if you are just trying to buy a bottle of ultrasonic cleaning solution, like I was today, do it online. You wouldn't have to let some random cretin inspect your FOID card. I've unfortunately spent thousands of dollars here over the years, but those days are gone. read more

I said I would never set foot in this place again. I went in today because they had a gun I wanted. I don't know why these folks are so rude...but they are! I recently took my nephew to Mega sports in Plainfield Illinois where i have bought many guns in the last 30 years from this outstanding place of business. Walk in you get badgered about having a foid card. You can't buy anything if you don't have one? There are things they sell that one foid card is not needed but they make you feel different. If you don't have one get out was the feeling I had. I do have one Then I was told about cell phone usage I said I read the signs posted on the doors. Then I was was questioned why I was there. I said to look around. He then gave me a dirty look. Finally went on my way. There was one other customer in this monster building. I was there to look at what they had for ammo. When I went looking for it I found that the area that had the ammo was blocked off causing me to not be able to see what I came There for. I headed back up to the front and asked why it was blocked off and he said I would have to wait for someone to bring me back there to view what they had. This is a store. I don't want anyone to assist me. I had enough. I said you don't need my business have a great day. That attitude they have never goes away. Been there before and was treated the same way. Hopefully they start reading how people feel about how they treat customers. I went else where and spent 200 on ammo. Get with it. read more

All attitude and no common sense. The people that work in this store have no regard for or respect of their customers. If you call for customer service, they'll berate you and hang up on you. This is why I've shopped at Ray O'Herron's for years. read more

Yeah, these guys are dummies. Of course, they have a big selection--but until they improve (even a little) there customer experience, the negative reviews are mostly warranted. They're honestly pretty awful. The whole store was basically empty (less than 5 customers) and they wouldn't let my 65+ year old dad into the place because his void was renewing. They weren't friendly, either. read more

I see a lot of negative reviews on here for Mega Sports so I wanted to post about my very positive experience. I went in to purchase a firearm and the three guys working there could not have been nicer. Reading some of these negative reviews seems a little misleading. People complaining about their FOID and cell phone policy is ridiculous. It states clearly on the door you must show your card and no cell phone use. If you choose to ignore this that is your fault, not their's. Don't leave a negative review based on your ignorance. Also the prices are very competitive. The firearm I purchased was priced better than anywhere online I could find it. I will definitely be back! read more

I've been to 30-40 gun stores I've never met more incompetent staff yet. Walk in ask for Colt mags, guy looks at me like I'm a moron "uhm we definitely don't carry them, who needs steel mags" any who within 30 seconds i find them bring them back to him and ask for a price. This Neanderthal just stares at me with a glazed over look and says $35. Next issue is they refuse to sell semi auto firearms to anyone who is a Cook County residents. During the lockdown I attempted to purchase an M1A and a Mossberg 930 which they refused to sell even after offering hundreds of dollars over their price tag. I just don't understand this total disregard for 2A and customer service. My guy...train your staff in a little bit of respect and get the stick out of your ass. I'm happy the FUDs keep your store open but I'll keep spending my money with guys like DS Arms in Lake Barrington or Kee Firearms. What a waste of gas, I'd say best of luck but you guys have some special business model that keeps you open for no reason. read more

Worst customer service ever and anti law enforcement. Went there with 2 friends who were interested in purchasing handguns and wanted my opinion because I have been a Police officer for over 28 years. Walked in and was asked for my FOID card, showed it to the lady and informed her that it has need expired for over a year but had applied for a renewal and could show them the status on my phone. She said I would have to have something printed, I then showed her my Police ID and that I was not there to purchase anything, just help some friends with their decision. She promptly informed us that she did not care if I was the Police, but she would call her manager up to see if he would let me in. Manager arrives and I tell him I can show him on my phone the status of my FOID renewal request. He says it has to be printed, then says give me your password and I'll look it up. I advised that I'm not comfortable providing my password, to which he quickly said then your not coming in. I turned to my friends and told them this is why I don't come here, to which the manager stormed back and said then don't come here. Just bought a 1911 . Was going to go to mega since I bought 2 guns from Mike z . He is very good to buy from because he is very knowledgeable. He is the only salesman that will actually talk to you. Can't believe how horrible the customer service here despite how nice the place looks.

This place has the absolute worse customer service you can imagine. Use this place to browse only. I will never return to this place.

Worst customer experience I've had at any gun store or range. I've gone about 4 or 5 times over three years hoping the next time will be better. But I'm done. I've gone twice to try and purchase a firearm and I was ignored. Seriously, I was there once for 30 minutes and they just stood there talking about a fishing trip. I asked for help and they said hold on, someone would be with me shortly (no one ever came). I've used their range twice. Decent, but when I signed in and asked for ammo and targets, they guy behind the counter acted as if I was keeping him from something. Still, I let it go and didn't say anything. I'm honestly not one for conflict. But today was the last straw. I caused some damage to the chassis of one of my firearms and after talking to Ruger CS, they said they could fix the damage (replace the chassis) but I had to send it in, and because of all the laws going back and forth, I needed to use an FFL. They (Ruger) recommended Mega Sports saying they worked with them all the time. So this afternoon, I went in, explained that I needed to send something to Ruger and that Ruger had recommended I use them, and the guy said no. I asked why and he said I didn't purchase the gun from them so they won't do it. I asked why that mattered and said not we're sending it back and walked away. Wish it were possible to give less than one star. Honestly, every time I've walked into this store, I'm made to feel like I'm unwelcome. Well this time it's sticking. Thanks for nothing. read more

Just a really bad gun store. The workers there act like they are better than you, and belittle you when you ask simple questions. Don't go there especially if you are with someone that doesn't have a foid card, because you are required to have a Foid card to enter, and you can't even use your phone what do ever. Not even to answer the phone or check pricing on ammunition and guns. Surprised it hasn't closed down yet. read more

Worst customer service in the industry. The staff are cocky and arrogant. The managers are worse. The prices are overinflated as they gouge people based on supply and demand. It has been nearly 22 years since I had visited Mega sports in Plainfield. At that time, a buddy of mine lived nearby and suggested we stop there, & boasted of their selection & great customer service. He was right on both counts. I ended up purchasing my first Weatherby hunting rifle at this store. Despite all of the negative online reviews, I called their shop, inquiring about a Springfield M1A rifle. Gentleman that I talked with on the phone, confirmed that they had the model that I was interested in this week, prior to their close. I made it a point to head out there early the next morning & arrived shortly after their open. As read in many posted reviews, I was amazed at the large signage at the front doors, informing of the no cell phone policy & customers being videotaped on camera upon entry. I was also immediately greeted at the front door by a surely older dude that almost seemed puts off that I had my FOID card at the ready for his cursory inspection. I was asked as to why I was there & I proceeded to mention my check-in the previous evening on the M1A. After a careful look up & down once again ( dude, are you interested in actually selling this rifle to a law-abiding customer or not?), he instructed me to go to another corner of the store and wait. Another guy saunters up and I once again go through my whole spiel. With arched eyebrow, he informs me that the model that I was interested in was not available. Really? I explained my phone conversation with their store clerk the previous evening, & he stated that they did not have it in stock. Well, that was a waste of a 70 mile drive in my truck... I then asked if he might know as to when the store might be getting any more in. He said that he didn't but they could put my name on a list. As I was starting to write my name and address down, he casually asked me as to what county I lived in and I mentioned Crook county. That response ceased all future progress immediately. He then commented that it was store policy not to sell any military style military rifles to Cook County. A Garand M-1/M-14 derivative. So...despite the fact that Springfield makes variants of this rifle specifically for Socialistic states like NY & CA, they would not sell this to me in Illinois...Nope. While this is certainly the owners prerogative as to what they sell, to where, and to whom, they are not endearing themselves to local supporters of our 2nd Amendment & I not only will I never return to this store, I will share my experience with my shooting & hunting friends, as well as share more of the same dispirited tales of this establishment online. If I had to fathom a guess, this shop likely had a straw purchase, and used in the commission of a crime, that was traced back to this shop, by the ATF. They probably had their hand slapped or put on some type of probation, threatening the revocation of their FFL & that is the reason that they have adopted the Draconian store policies that they have. They are operating their business scared, and is reflected horribly in their customer service. As others have pointed out, I am not sure as to how they are keeping their doors open, particularly, if they are not shipping out of state to other FFL's, and indiscriminately interpreting their own rules and laws for local patrons. Oh well, I located my rifle at a shop in NC, and will be picking it up this week. read more

Good selection of guns with ok prices. The only downside is the managers look at people as uneducated on what they are buying. Also one of the managers started yelling at me dad because he's an retired police officer & had his 1911 on his hip with his badge. Last I was shocked that they don't let long guns onto the range. Clean place though & they do have an great selection of handguns. read more

The worst experience ever along with the worst customer service in the industry. My DL and FOID address does not match (due to state backlog) so they refused to sell unless I provided a government bill with my address. Sales associate was ok but Manager Scott is a sometime to see. I did have the document however when I asked for further clarification on the documents I was told if I don't like it to take my business else where and leave. I was also asked if I understood the state governs the sale of guns... well shit that is why I have a FOID card. Scott then turned his back to me and walked away. This is the first bad review I have ever left in my life but I will stand up for myself and expect some amount of respect. While this place is always busy they will NEVER get my business in the future. read more

What place has an indoor shooting range, gun rental & ammo in stock? This place! You get checked for a FOID card at the door and at check out, I know a lot of other reviewers bash them for that, but if your buying a gun or ammo in Illinois you need a FOID card , this keeps the shelves free from gawkers & the sales staff free to service you it is a rule I like. I was able to pick 2 boxes of 9mm & a lot of .22 ammo the 9mm is limited between 1 & 5 boxes per customer depending on the inventory this is a major reason they still have ammo in stock, service your customer not hoarders. The sales staff I encountered where both knowledgeable, and friendly enough to tell about any product I had a question on. The only issue I had is they sort by brand not by gun type, which I guess is nice is you have sided with a particular company not so nice if you want to compare companies. While I normally prefer to give my money to local gun stores (who tend to be a smigion cheaper in price) over a mass retailer, when I was in a pinch Mega Sport was there for me I will be returning & I plan on trying out the shooting range in the near future as it seems like a nice change from shooting in the country. read more

Would give zero if I could. Went there earlier today. Stopped by dweeb at front door. Wanted to see my FOID card upon entry. I can I suppose understand that since I had a mask on. Then I took back my card and started to walk in and he asked me "what are you here for?" It seemed like a stupid question. I said "to shop, what else?" He said, "if you want to buy something, you have to come back here to get a salesman" I said, "why?" He said "it's our policy now." I said, "you know what? Your policy sucks" and I left. This waste of a retail space "sporting store" is the worst place to buy a gun or shop for anything for that matter. They obviously are riding the high of carrying product in high demand but as soon as that demand, business model or political impact (just like anything in retail) fizzles gun demand, I hope this store closes. They are rude, inconsiderate, and talk down on everyone. They obviously don't understand the lifetime value of a customer which is surprising because they still sell services, consumables, and rent range time. I can assure you they lost me as a customer forever and I will buy my guns, ammo, classes for my wife and range time from the other 50 places in the area. Buy anywhere but here. I would give negative stars if I could. read more

Found the pistol for $300 less online with the exact grips I wanted. Will never go back. Yes they have a large selection but that is overshadowed by lousy service anymore. It was always a bit "hit or miss" but am officially done. If you want better service go anywhere else. Shoot Point Blank has a good selection and decent ranges as does the Range at 355. So I have been to Mega Sports a few times over the years and have had a positive experience. Bought ammo occasionally and I'm pretty sure a few oddities as well. Well this week I've been deciding on a 1911 and jumped on one. Unfortunately the particular model has a flat price across the board and getting if for a low price is a right time right place sort of thing. Anyways I decided to make a purchase at Mega Sports since I have never bought from here and it's local. So from this review I have had a positive experience at the store. Employee's greeted my wife and I when entering. Walked over to the case to look and was asked if I needed help. The gentleman showed me the models of my choice and was very polite. Being indecisive at that moment he was understanding and let us be. A short while I decided and went with the purchase process. At no point did I feel rushed or ignored. The store from a stand point is awesome. Great selection, great stock, lots to look at. Pricing may be standard but specials are run. I had no problems at all during my visit. I can not review the range however since I have never used it. read more

I have been a patron of this store for a few years now. Today I visited the store to look at some knives, and was scolded by a young man for using my phone in the store. I was promptly instructed that phone use in the store is prohibited. I wondered why such patrons of freedom would preclude me from using my phone in their store, and came to the conclusion that they either enjoy making their customers feel belittled, or maybe they simply don't want customers price-checking while shopping on their premises. In either case, its an infringement upon my liberty and I will not be patronizing Mega Sports any longer. Notice to Mega Sports: your prices are high and it may not be the best idea to alienate patrons who still visit brick and mortar establishments such as yours, rather than giving their business to online retailers. read more

Mega Sports has great selection of firearms and I like their store policy with strict controls on sale of firearms. Problem I had with owner is he handed the colt python to me , I informed him that cylinder release dragged then took revolver and I thought he was going to check it, but he just packed up and put it back in display case . I brought $2000 bucks to spend today, which I was still interested in colt , but then he turned away. I had other items at cashier counter to go with colt . At this point I just said to myself, I guess owner. doesn't care about interactions about my issue with release of cylinder. Couple times a year we make 2 hr drive for purchase of a gun with my son inlaws . I usually give $1,000 a piece for each to grow their collection. we have spent close to 15 grand previously, BUT I'm done with Mega Sports and owners careless attitude.
