I received a recommendation to attend the CCL class at Sheepdog with Chief Scully. My friend had nothing but good things to say about Sheepdog and the chief. After taking the class, my friend did not do it justice. The training was absolutely fantastic. The chief went over the basics of firearm selection, cleaning, firing, marksmanship, and so much more. There was hands on threat disarmament examples, there were real life situations, and many truly value added conversations/examples. The chief provides so much confidence on the firing range even for beginning shooters. I saw this with two individuals he worked with in my qualification group. After working with the chief, they hit the target with confidence while never shooting a firearm before. The other staff that worked with the chief were great as well. It definitely was worth the time and money. I started to look into other classes at Sheepdog that my wife and I could take together. My wife and I could not have been any happier with the teaching of Tom and the hospitality of all his staff. We learned way more than anticipated and the experience and personal stories were of great benefit just not for CCL but adaptable to our personal lives. The class was very layed back even though stressful about qualifying for shooting but once again Tom made it very comfortable and relaxing taking away the stress. If any questions arose Tom stopped and answered the question to make sure everyone understood what was being discussed. I would like to comment on a class that I have taken over a weekend at Sheepdog Academy. The people that work there are very knowledgeable at instructing the students. The staff takes the time, and will work with you on a one to one basis to make you feel comfortable. They make sure you have a true understanding of the subject at hand. I attended the concealed carry class in August and was very impressed with the professional presentation and training. Not only did Chief Scully instruct us on the proper care and handling of a firearm but stressed that reaching for your weapon should be the last resort. He stressed the importance of trying to deescalate the situation. He also stressed the aftermath of a shooting situation and the steps you need to take immediately afterword. What a great experience. It's very evident that Chief Scully has an abundance of real world experience with both guns and bad guys. When taking his CCL classes it's clear that he wants to pass that along. In addition to the IL required curriculum for concealed carry, Chief Scully adds incredibly useful training in situational awareness, self defense and what to do after a shooting. I recently took the Conceal Carry class, and it was amazing! The class was was small, and in lecture form adhering to Covid-19 safety practices. There were many slides, videos, and life experiences shared to enhance my learning experience. Any questions we students had were answered promptly and thoroughly by our instructor, with respect.
