This place is a joke. Thinly sliced junk steak. Waste of $. Small portions despite two servings. Why bother. Just put it all on the plate the first time. Plate would still be only 1/3 full. Terrible concept. read more

Opening night (12/16/24) was excellent. The host/hostess were welcoming and friendly- asking guests how they heard about the place and if they were local, etc. The menu is simple- $34.95 for steak (cooked to order) plus yummy rustic bread, salad and shoestring French fries. Oh- and some amazing secret sauce on the steak. Nice selection of wines- I enjoyed a cab. I was about half finished with my (rare) steak and a server stopped by and filled my plate with more steak and fries (complimentary second serving is standard). I knew there would be the need for a to-go box. I eyed the desserts at the next table- huge slices of chocolate and carrot cake. When I finished my steak, I struck up a conversation with the couple at the next table. They also couldn't decide on dessert. They ordered the carrot cake and I ordered chocolate cake- we asked for a few extra plates and shared so we could all try both. Maybe a bit unusual to share desserts with another table but it worked for us and the servers were very accommodating. Both cakes were amazing. I loved the limited menu- it makes the entire experience efficient. I was impressed with how smoothly everything went despite new staff and it being day 1. Chatted with several employees and everyone was friendly and helpful. Can't wait to go back. Free surface and garage parking at Arsenal Yards. read more

Salad and bread are good. Steak is chewy, sliced incredibly thin- see photo. Probably a total of 4oz of meat. Go to a real steakhouse. read more

Prix fixe steak frites (mushroom option available instead of meat). Went recently on a weekend and was really not impressed. The main issue is the cut of meat -- it is too thin. This is not itself a problem, but it means the margin for error is very narrow for doneness and texture. If your chef gets it just right, you'll likely have a great meal; if not, you'll be quite disappointed. However you normally order your meat, would recommend going down one level of doneness (normally like medium rare -- ask for rare). Sauce was just ok, didn't really do much for the meat, not sure if it can be requested on the side instead of already on the meat. Bread was good, ask for warm butter. Salad was sad and wilted. Fries were good! They give you two rounds but only stuck around for one. Didn't get dessert but seems like they might be huge and decent. The wine/drink selection was good, if only a bit limited. Service was attentive and friendly :) read more

One would think DEI was part of onboarding at a chain restaurant. Our party received a racist "joke". When the server came by to hand out the gum, she said no fortune cookie here. As an Asian, I found that was not cool and inappropriate. That aside, the experience as a whole was disappointing. Seems like they don't sear/grill the meat. Maybe sous vide? Anyways, I ordered mine still moo-ing which it did some out red in the center. Unfortunately, it was not tender - more on the chewy side. Just like the gum! The rest of my party, all theirs was overcooked as they didn't ask for rare. Medium rare came out medium well. A couple peeps returned it and asked for proper temps. Server was not happy and wanted to push back. Rest of the peeps declined to say anything from watching that signal and just ate what was in front of them and would request a different temp on 2nd round. 2nd round came out without us being aware and unexpected since not the entire party has finished the first round at that point. When the peeps told the server that they didn't want the same temp, she said it's already cooked showing us the cast iron skillet she was holding with overcooked beef. Yes, we pushed back! It shouldn't be difficult for have a medium rare steak at a restaurant that's named Medium Rare! Someone should tag "Not" in front of their sign. It's apparent that there's a timing issue which started before the 2nd round. They ran the first round to us before we finished our salad. Naturally, I would move my salad aside so that they can set my steak in front of me. They then attempted to take my salad away!! Yes, I stopped them as I did want to finish my salad. I have trouble figuring out if this is a casual restaurant or higher end due to the super casual racist subpar service and subpar meal. No intention coming back since they don't have fortune from fortune cookies. read more

The service was fantastic!!! The ambience was amazing!!!! You definitely need to start off with the pineapple mule and have two or three of them The Culotte medium rare is exactly how you need to order it and it is fantastic!!!!!!!! Just when you think you're done they bring you seconds!!!!! oh, that is nice!!!!!!!! read more

Loved this concept- excellent salad steak and fries. Very professional servers without being overbearing. Very patient with our party who came and went due different times due to unrelated reasons definitely going back read more

ANDY MADE THIS EXPERIENCE SO EXCEPTIONAL. Medium Rare was outstanding! Andy and Samantha went above and beyond to make our night special--friendly, attentive, and perfectly timed service. The steaks were cooked to perfection, sides were flavorful, and the atmosphere was warm and inviting. Highly recommend for an unforgettable dining experience! read more

The fixed menu comes with bread, salad, and steak. The salad was fine but the bread crust was too hard and the steak was rather chewy (I got medium rare). The fries were also a little too salty, but the gravy was great! Overall because you get two servings it was probably worth the price in terms of quantity, it just didn't taste great read more

We just happened into this place. I've no idea how the business model works but we had a delightful meal in Watertown MA location. Salad, steak and fries, that's it, one low price. Period. But the salad was dressed nicely, fries crisp outside and flaky inside and the steak cooked to perfection with a nice French-like sauce. Just a great meal. Jakob and his supervisor were both outstanding! Just go! We'll try NYC next but doubt it will measure up to the staffing in Watertown even if the meal does. read more

The establishment itself looks nice. They have all of their good reviews framed in the windows. The bread was meh. It seemed either really brittle or stale. The salad was good. The dressing was very good. The steak was ok for the price. Fries were fine. What stole the show was the sauce. The sauce pairs really well with the fries. The servers are nice. They write your customizations (since there is only one thing on the menu) on the paper table cover. Overall its an ok deal for the price. read more

Perhaps brunch is not the best time to go, restaurant was almost empty during Saturday brunch. We were excited to try this place after seeming so many social media posts boasting about the delicious steak and the second servings! Decided to go for brunch because we had a baby too. Was so bummed that they do not offer second servings for brunch, and the size was so small we both left hungry! Fries were really good, steak (not the best cut) chewy, salad was great, poached eggs undercooked, Bloody Mary bitter and way too salty- ended up sending back, and the secret sauce was very good, peppery and rich almost like a pate flavor. read more

If you make a reservation, they do not actually reserve a table for you. We came on time for a reservation and the hostess said "sorry a bunch of people showed up right before you." I was speechless. Don't let people make a reservation if you don't reserve tables! She said there were people finishing up and it would be twenty minutes... we decided to wait and were given a table 45 minutes later. I asked what was going on and she said they couldn't make people leave even if they were done eating and not ordering anything additional. Actually, yes, you can! I asked when we sat if the entrees could be brought out quickly, the waiter said yes and they were brought 45 minutes later. This restaurant only serves one thing! I asked how long the second round would be and they said it would be quick and it was 35 minutes. Just tell the truth! The overall incompetence probably means I will never go here again even though the food is tasty and it's close by. read more

Had a family group of 18 at the restaurant for dinner on the Sat after Thanksgiving. Everything went great. Hand some concerns based on a couple of reviews that the service was slow. The service couldn't have been any better and that's for a group of 18 sitting at once. Food was lovely and service exceptional. Highly recommend this place. read more

Had a reservation for 12:30 pm Mothers Day brunch. We were there on time. Stood and waited until 1:20 pm to get our 4 top table. By 2:45 pm we STILL didn't have our meal served!! The hostess busted her butt and we felt bad for her but the manager was woefully ill prepared. What happed to us happened to nearly all other diners. I saw one group leave after waiting as long as we did and they never got their food. The food we finally got was cold. I can't stress enough how bad this place is. It ruined our Mother's Day. These people charged $75 a plate for cold food, small portions and a terrible experience. Also, as to ambiance, turn down your music!! No one can hear each other at the table!! They didn't even comp us a drink or dessert. AWFUL. read more

We came for brunch, and four of our five orders were incomplete. Two came without sides (I.e., fries and sausage) and the other two French Toast orders came with sausages that were undercooked. Service was good and the food that did come was delicious. However, our overall experience was not positive given what we paid. read more

Underwhelming at best. The portion size was small and served on a salad plate. We went for brunch and we were told there's no second round for brunch. Very overpriced for the portion size. Overall a disappointment. I heard so many great things. We won't be going back. Thanks but no thanks read more

I was completely let down by this experience. As someone who eats steak often, I had high expectations, but the steak was extremely disappointing. The flavor was plain and bland, with no seasoning or depth at all--it honestly tasted like no effort was put into it. The drinks were also not good and did nothing to improve the meal. I was very upset by the overall quality and ended up having to go to another restaurant just to get a proper meal. This was a waste of time and money, and not an experience I would recommend. read more

I went to Boston during Harvard's Parents weekend and took a chance on this steakhouse that has only one steak option besides the temperature it's cooked at, I was skeptical... BEST CHOICE ever! Not only was the atmosphere upscale but comfortable but the staff was Amazingly attentive! Andy(our server) was ON POINT, he was kind, engaging and energetic. It wasn't just him several other folks including a lady who I assumed was the manager kept checking on us and everyone made sure our drinks were refilled instantly. The meal started with a rustic freshly baked French bread, followed up with minutes by a light green salad. The portobello appetizer was at the table 3 minutes after ordering and the steak arrived within about 10 minutes after that. The portion wasn't a big as I expected... not small but medium.... But then Andy says seconds will be out in 10 minutes. My son and I were completely confused... did we mishear him... what is being refilled? Sure enough about 9 minutes later another chef approaches our table with another steak same size cooked the same way and fries! We had two identical portions, it was awesome and unexpected. Have I mentioned how reasonably priced it was? $34.95- no better way to spend a date, birthday or just a nice night out. When you go to the rest room there is a voice teaching you phrases in French to impress your date. It was hilarious! read more

Had a great experience last week with Juan the waiter!! He was super interactive with my friends and I. We will be back!!

Medium Rare was an excellent restaurant. Andy's service was great and he was very friendly. The food was very good

Went here on a Friday, absolutely loved the food and ANDY was an amazing server. 100% will be back

Went to Medium Rare for brunch recently. The food was very good but the menu was fairly limited and making any changes to any of the menu options was not allowed. We also got dessert, the hot fudge sundae was one of the better ones we've had. The service was good, the ambience was good. Overall we did enjoy our experience. read more

The food was delicious and you get seconds on the steak and fries. For the price it is a great value!! The server was very friendly and did a great job handling the busy atmosphere. The room was a little loud but not too loud that you couldn't talk to your table. The chocolate cake was amazing. read more

This is a very nice spot for those who enjoy classic French bistro dining. The atmosphere is very pleasant, the drinks are well-made, and the service was great although a little on the slow side, we waited 35 minutes for our order, and the place was practically empty.. The menu is elegantly simple focusing on only one item. Beautifully prepared steak frites. The presentation was excellent. The beef is thinly sliced and enhanced by a traditional brown sauce that complements its natural flavor. Seasoned with only salt and pepper. The fries were crispy and delicious. It's a meal that celebrates subtlety and quality. If you've never experienced or if you are curious about European cuisine, ie food that is bland and overpriced with no flavor, I highly recommend Medium Rare for a taste of traditional European cooking." Those of European ancestry will love it, everyone else will gain a new experience they won't soon forget. Bon appétit. read more

Had a reservation for 6:45 on a Saturday night. We ended up waiting over 30 mins for our table. Reading the other yelp comments I noticed that they play this game on Saturday nights where they over book and blame it on open table. Bread was great. Salad pretty good. Steak was nothing special. Chocolate cake was expensive but huge and tasty. It was a unique experience but not sure we'd go there again. read more

What a wonderful experience! $0.25 mimosas, screwdrivers and bloody Mary's and a $35 brunch is pretty hard to beat. Thanks so much again Alin and crew!!! read more

We enjoyed our dinner at Medium rare last night. They start you off with warm bread Followed by a salad the I enjoyed and wanted a second of it. Sorry not to be had. They then bring you the thin sliced steak and fries. The steak has a delicious sauce on top. After I had the scrumptious hot fudge Sunday. By the way they automatically bring you a second helping of the steak and fries. The steak reminds me of flank steak and it was very tender My recommendations for changes I would like to see. The restaurant is very noisy and hard to hear one another. Baffles on the ceiling would help. I would also like a vegetable with my steak. The sundae was great but way too much whipped cream on top and the whipped cream tastes like it is not fresh made. Otherwise I still would come back read more

An amusing night. This restaurant has only one price fix offering. It is 34.00 and offers bread (very good) and salad and shaved steak and fries. The website made it sound like this was an experience you will never find anywhere. It was barely ok. Go to Outback and you will get better. No big deal at all. The bar has very few offerings. All in all a total joke. Go now if you are curious, because I am sure will be gone in a year at most. read more

My wife and I ate here for the first time tonight. Andy was our server and we had great service from him. Friendly and considerate the whole time. They have paper coverings for each table that allows customers to doodle which was a nice touch. Andy used ours to write his name as well as our order so that we didn't forget which I appreciated. Andy was well knowledgeable about the menu and drinks. He recommended the gold rush and lavender hibiscus cocktails that we both liked. He recommended our steaks to be medium well and that came out great too. The sauce complemented the steak and fries well, but seemed to go better if you didn't drench your food in it. The steak had good flavor/seasoning and the fries were okay too. Can't remember what we had desert but it was an amazing whipped cream and sprinkles on top of a vanilla/chocolate fudge ice cream. I would definitely come back again for another meal. read more

This was our first time here. Food was great but to say the staff there was professional is an understatement. We saw first hand how they dealt with a very difficult table and it was a class act. Very professional. The manager Vincent did a phenomenal job as well as the two servers in our section Jake and Seamus. Will definitely be back. read more
