We had a lovely Mother's Day brunch here. The atmosphere was warm and the service was solid throughout. The food largely impressed -- the salmon tartare and chickpea hummus were both excellent starters, and the fish sandwich hit the spot. The grilled swordfish was the highlight, cooked just right with a perfect char and tender center. The only letdown was the Crab Cake Benedict. The crab cake itself was bland and a touch greasy, a missed opportunity for what should be a standout dish. Over the last twenty five years I've probably been to Mediterra in Palmer Square more times than I can count as they certainly deserve the benefit of the doubt even on an off night. The service is always warm and attentive and for atmosphere the timelessness of their Danish Modern decor never disappoints. As a fanboy of their meatless lasagna, this time I decided to change it up and order the "special" Halibut. I didn't know that anything coming out of the sea could be so dry. Again... an off night. Had a great time at Mediterranean for a conference dinner. We had the side room all to ourselves, which gave us the space and comfort we needed. The servers were very friendly and attentive. The wine and mocktails were kept flowing and everything was served at a great pace. All of the appetizers were really tasty. We had hummus, salads, a burrata with tomatoes, and a medley of chick peas, mushrooms, and I think sweet potatoes (this was may favorite). For the meal, I had the salmon which was excellent. We ordered the Salmon Tartare as an appetizer and the Paella for two. Both were delicious and the flavors were great! The Paella was lacking the crispy crunchy burnt rice bottom (soccarat) but the flavors were definitely there. We loved how generous they were with the portions, especially with the meats too. There's a few big mix of pork sausage, chicken, squid, scallop, and shrimp in the dish. The Salmon Tartare was great too, a nice light cold appetizer. I would rate Mediterra a 4.3/5. It's a great dinner place and a decent lunch place and has been dependable the last 3 times I've gone. The location is great and the indoor and outdoor seating options both have great ambiance. The staff are very friendly and professional. Certain dishes(ex. Papas frites, salmon, chicken) are spectacular and well portioned, while others(ex. Burrata salad, meatball brunch bowl, calamari) are skipable. The pastas are a hit or miss but never too extreme of a miss. A little more on the expensive side but nothing out of line from the rest of Nassau street. The food is pretty salty which isn't to my liking but otherwise flavorful and well executed. I love a nice dinner out at Mediterra and this is a great pick with the perfect amount of options. Updating my review and five stars as usual. Stopped in to grab dinner with a coworker and enjoyed some of their new menu additions particularly the carpaccio was absolutely out of this world. Do not skip this dish!! Also the mushroom ajillo appetizer was so flavorful garlic buttery, and everything that you would want. Finally, as an appetizer had the shrimp ceviche, which was fresh but nothing special compared to the other appetizers. For the entrees we shared the lamb Ragu and the Cacio E Pepe, which they graciously split onto two plates for us. The clearest standout of the two was the Cacio E Pepe- it was prepared with artichokes and lemon, resulting in a unique fresh flavor. Ambience is great. It was raining so we sat inside, but my preference is definitely their outdoor seating. They also have an extensive wine list. And last, but not least service was fantastic. I have been here twice, with a difference in time of about 6 years. Each time was disappointing. Firstly, they have a very small menu with not a lot of options. They also serve ingredients not listed in the menu item, such as hot spices. It took me a very long time to pick something out. It was about 3:30pm and I asked if they were serving their dinner menu because I'd really enjoy the pork item on there, but after asking the chef the server advised that since they didn't prep yet for dinner I couldn't order it, which was fair enough. I finally picked out my lunch menu item, the Market bowl, and when I got it, it had lots of spice in it that did not say it on the menu. I barely ate any of it. Without prompting, however, the restaurant removed the meal from my bill which I do find very accommodating as I was quite upset about it. My friend ordered chicken caesar salad and the chicken was very splintered and overcooked. I also ordered a Caesar salad with no chicken, and the salad was excellent! The staff is very friendly and the restaurant is cute inside and has nice outdoor seating with hanging lights. However, I would not suggest going here as I think the menu is very limited. Two stars for great staff and the Caesar salad was good. Otherwise, not the best experience either time I've been here. read more

On my most recent visit to Princeton a few weeks ago, I met up with my 2nd oldest friend and spent a great deal of money (well-spent money, if I do say so myself!) at the Princeton Record Exchange (which is where we've been going and spending our "discretionary income" since we were in our late teens, which is...depressing as this is to admit...many, many moons ago). When it came time to sit down and have a bite to eat, I left the decision of where to eat up to my friend (his tastes in food tend to be more esoteric and exotic than mine, but it's always interesting, no matter what type of cuisine he ultimately picks), and this time he picked Mediterra. Inside, Mediterra seemed very dark indeed if not necessarily unwelcoming, but we elected to sit outside on the patio/porch. It was a cloudy, chilly day, but the restaurant had "heaters" set up outside that were almost TOO warm. Still, the atmosphere was pleasant, even "cozy," and we were able to catch up on what's been going on in our lives (we haven't gotten together since the start of Covid) since we last saw each other. I can't remember what my friend ordered, but I had the minestrone soup, which definitely hit the spot, followed by the "House-Made" Orecchiette, a pasta which came with free range veal "bolognese ", herbs, san marzano tomatoes, braised fennel, whipped ricotta. It was very good, tasty and filling. A little bit expensive for...not to be pejorative here...what's essentially a bowl of pasta, albeit "House Made" pasta, but this IS Princeton after all, and the bottom line is...I enjoyed it. Service was very friendly, attentive without being intrusive, and efficient. I'm always tempted by any restaurant's "dessert menu," but my friend wanted to have ice cream at the nearby Bent Spoon, and he didn't have to twist my arm too much. The service was not great, the chicken was overcooked, the cauliflower app was very disappointing (4 pieces of battered and fried cauliflower for $14 and we only ate 3) butterscotch crème brûlée was gritty and lumpy. I absolutely love coming to Mediterra. It's my favorite dinner restaurant in Princeton. The food is top notch, and the service is always extremely friendly and accommodating. Tonight we made a reservation for outdoor seating with a large group of 10 adults and 3 dogs. Normally you can make reservations on Open Table but a group this big required a phone call. They were more than happy to help us out and during dinner, even checked regularly to make sure the dogs had enough water. Nicholas, our server, was the best server I've had in a very long time in any restaurant. He was friendly, attentive, and very funny! He had some pretty good jokes and not the same old lame restaurant jokes. He had good recommendations for drinks and food alike. Very knowledgeable and still went above and beyond when our group ordered. We wanted a big dish of their paella to share family style, and still have separate entries. Nicholas recommended to get 2 servings of the paella for 2, instead of one giant dish in the middle of the table, to make it easier to share. When the food got sent out still in one giant dish, he personally helped to split it evenly into the two servings for each side of the table. He even made sure to plate the smaller servings well so it looked like it came out of the kitchen that way! He also had the kitchen evenly split the few entrees that our group decided to share between couples! I can't say enough nice things about Nicholas and how he made our night with a large group, feel special and like we were the only patrons dining that night, even though they were pretty busy. My recommendations: the papas bravas (!!!), the raw oysters were delicious if you like them. The pastas are excellent, so is the pork loin and the steak, and absolutely get the paella!! It is their signature dish. My mom said it tasted better than the paella she ate when she visited Valencia, Spain last summer. read more

The food was served quickly and it was all delicious. We even had to ask for small sharing plates because we all wanted to try each others dishes. For appetizers we had the salmon tartare, it was fresh and very tasty; the fried eggplant was also very good, it was lightly fried and was not a heavy plate, and the patatas bravas were also very good. All the dishes were finished. Then for our main course we had the salmon, mushroom bolognese, pastaless lasagna and the pasta with sausage and brocili rabe. Again all dishes were wiped clean. I did have a bit of an issue with the staff always forgetting to take my order for drinks, apps, and entree but it was a large party so I understand if it was hard to make sure everyone put an order in. Split pea soup was hearty and flavorful. Good portion for one. House-made Tagliatelle w braised pork ragu caught my eye from the menu because of the pork ragu. The tagliatelle noodles were al dente and a good size to pair with the tender pork. Flavor was kinda there but it did need salt and pepper. I also got to try the paella which was delicious! My husband and I went here on a date recently and it was delicious. We had the small cheese board and watermelon gazpacho to start and both were excellent. I had the classic red sangria which was also perfect and my husband had some kind of mezcal/spicy cocktail that he really liked. Did our mains my husband had the salmon which was cooked perfectly and was very light and flavorful. I had a vegetarian eggplant parm type dish that was cooked well and the tomato sauce was super fresh and also seasoned well. Our server was lovely and we sat out in the patio which was also great.
