    Look at that cracklin'!

Porchetta sandwich with crackling on a soft ciabatta roll with some mustard for $14. Nuff said. We look forward to this sandwich everytime we come back to Vancouver. We have not been able to find a comparable porchetta anywhere else. They have loyal customers for life. We got the tomato fennel soup and it was so creamy and warmed up belly and breath in this cold weather. I have never been disappointed, even when the sandwich got a tiny bit smaller than it was 2 years ago. I'll still come back. Even during the lunch rush. Maybe even tomorrow.

I can't pass up a porchetta sandwich so we had to stop here between our adventures. The sandwich was perfect. My husband got the buffalo chicken sandwich which he really liked and my daughter enjoyed her grilled cheese on sourdough which was perfectly toasted. We asked them to make one with no onions and they obliged. The service was nice. The prices affordable. The food was fast and there was ample seating. The menu is pretty small, but if you like what they make, this is a perfect pit stop.

Meat & Bread wasn't even on my radar until my coworker suggested lunch here during our conference at the convention center. SO GLAD HE DID! The porchetta sandwich is excellent! Tender slices of porchetta carved to order, drizzled with salsa verde, and topped with pieces of crunchy crackly pork skin...all sandwiched in between a ciabatta-like bread. YESSSSSSS PLEASE! My coworkers loved their tomato soup, Buffalo chicken sandwich and beef cheesesteak. You know when a place has a limited menu, they do every single item right! The staff was so nice and proud of their food! They were so excited to explain their offerings! A small joint: there's a few seats available inside and a couple of benches in front. Simply fantastic!

It's okay & consistent but not as much compared to what I'm used to.

Another return visit for their porchetta sandwich and soup of the day which was a tomato lentil bisque. Always a solid choice on a rainy day but not as good as Roli Roti at the Ferry Building Farmers Market in San Francisco

Amazing! Love the porchetta sandwich. You can see the flavor and crunch!

(mostly) LOVE this place! The food has amazing flavor, top quality, and the service is super fast!! Had to try the porchetta sandwich on my first visit, but only because the Turdunken wasn't on the menu today. Everything about the sandwich was spot on. The bread held the fillings perfectly and was slightly chewy. The meat, sauce, and crisp skin filling was literally a flavor explosion in my mouth. First bite and was trying to figure out when it could get back here this week given their 11am-4pm hours. Also had the mushroom soup, since it was a bit chilly outside today and there were no seats inside. This is one of the best mushroom soups I've ever had. The croutons were hard, floated on top of the soup, and full of garlic flavor. The soup was also garlic and spice laced - almost to the point of being spicy, but without over powering the mushroom. No idea how they pull it off, but it's amazing! What I don't line is sitting outside in the cold and them only being open until 4:00pm!

Great place and awesome sandwiches. I would recommend you try the Porchetta or the meatball sandwich. If you are in Vancouver Canada B.C. give a try.

Finally got a chance to try out their sandwiches. It's a very decent sandwich. I got the meat ball sandwich. So my 2 cents. I wish it was not spicy. It has lots of meat ball but when you bite in, it does fall apart easily. Of course that makes me look like a messy eater. Overall, it is a decent sandwich. Yes it is filling.

Simple Delicious Amazing! Drove by during the heavy noon rush hour & it was packed so decided to come back after 2pm. It was quieter but people were still coming in the door. Spotted Meat & Bread via Yelp & reviews looked amazing & I knew I'd have to try it out! Located on West Pender between Thurlow & Burrard, M & B is located at the bottom of an office building & could easily be missed so use the map finder on Yelp. Ordered today's special - 63 Acres Braised Beef Stroganoff. It was fantasticly delicious! I loved it! Beef was so good & bread, fresh & soft. Peppers, onions, greens & mayo were just awesome! Talked with the manager & he told me the bread they use for their buns is made at a bakery fresh daily. Trust me its that good & goes well with the order I had! My American friends - please note this is not a Texas Big type sandwich! So you may want to order 2 if you're that hungry! So when you do drop in here - remember it's meat plus bread only! If you're expectations are on the super high level perhaps try somewhere else. Can't wait to go back & try another sandwich!!!

I always plan my days around food and knowing this place gets packed, I came right when they opened and didn't have to wait. Their Crispy Porchetta sandwich lived up to the hype. It was flavorful, juicy, and the texture of the crispy fried pork skin sealed the deal. It's a small store but there's plenty of outdoor seating in the courtyard area.

The only regret I have about Meat & Bread is that I only ordered one Porchetta sandwich when clearly you could use a second. Sandwiches are among my favorite things to eat and M&B get the Porchetta sandwich right. I went when they just opened up, so I was able to get in and out quickly. As I left, there was a few people behind me, so I could see how they could get busy real quick. Ordering is simple and you get to watch your items being built in front of you. There isn't much of an eating area, but M&B is perfect for picking up and eating at your favorite spot.

We had the special of the week which was a pulled pork with dill sauce. It was good, but maybe a little too much dill flavour for my taste.

The chili-lime tofu, my go-to, is grilled fresh and juicy with a tangy marinade. I find these bowls very filling, but the price adds up quickly as you add more salad scoops, so I find it best to be conservative with my estimate of how much I think I need to eat. Besides the salad bowls, they have some hot entrees. I tried the Moroccan chickpea hot bowl and the tomato soup and both were a little bland, which was especially disappointing for something labelled "Moroccan". I would go back and try some different entrees to see if anything else is better, but I would say the salads are likely the best choice here. They have a very limited selection of "healthy" baked goods too. I really liked the chocolate pistachio cookie. As you would expect, it's significantly less sweet and has a slightly drier texture than a regular cookie, but if you like that kind of "better for you" treat, it's good. Very cocoa-forward. I've had good experiences with the service. The staff is friendly enough and usually pretty fast. It's counter service, but they'll usually bring your food to you at your table. There's a good amount of seating inside and a few tables outside when the weather allows. It's minimalist but clean.

I never knew this place was called HBC Gourmet Market, but I finally remembered to take note of it…read morethe next time I visited. It's a bakery and deli. This is the place where I usually buy cakes for the office. Their cakes are pre-made and placed in the displays for you to choose from. They make cakes throughout the day, but if you're unlucky they could be low on choices if you're there at the wrong time. If you have time, order ahead, but I don't usually have any problems with walk ins. The most recent cakes that I purchased were the Lemon Meringue and the Chocolate. Both cakes were sweet, light and fluffy. They were a hit in the office.

The HBC Gourmet Market is a little known great eatery in downtown Vancouver. It is located on the bottom floor of the Hudson's Bay Company (next to the Pacific Centre food court). It appears to be relatively unknown because Yelp doesn't know about it and so many people are always asking where I buy my lunch! Here you will find a very tasty selection of typical deli fare... The soups, salads, and sandwiches are their main selects but there is a whole lot more! My favourites are the Thai Chicken soup and the Chipotle Chicken Soup... usually ordered with a Greek salad. I am always so pleased with my lunch that I made this my very first review on Yelp!
