I have been a fan of their Porchetta for years! However the service & portion may vary depending who serve you & the time of day. The sourdough buns has crusty skins yet they are soft inside. The star is the crispy salty pork cracklings! The crunch gave a delicious texture to the sandwich. My only complaint from this branch was that I usually got less crackling on my sandwich than from other location. The pork meat itself was tender and flavorful. The salsa verde was delicious and not overpowering. They also have seasonal & limited menu that constantly changing. I've tried some and love some but I will always definitely come back for the porchetta when I'm nearby. read more

What? I haven't been to Downtown in YEARS and this popped up out of no where!! Well then, I was passing by downtown and wanting a quick grab and go so might as well this be the spot!! So I walked in, being empty after lunch, so I am not surprised there, and it the doors wide open, missing a lot of the hidden smells of the venue, and I was really missing a nostalgic bite of their Porchetta Sandwich. I saw them prep it, as usual like all M&B and, and with the big pork on the table and you can see them cut up the slices and the bowl of crunchy skins. It was perfect. But at the same time, the service was a typical quick grab and head on out to the park to finish your sandwich type of deal. There was seating, but there wasn't a lot of it. Surprisingly this might be the only one with seating to like eat your sandwich type of deal. I do enjoy that this place is here in the heart of Downtown, and that there a chance to get some M&B. Have you ever been hungry, eating but bored while eating? My first time today. I ordered the Meatball Sandwich, and before I even started eating I knew from the look of the meatball that it was very very dry (see pic). It almost looked like it had been boiled ( I hope no Italian grandmas are reading this). The first bite, my suspicions were confirmed. They were so dry and chewy that I had to make an effort to swallow them down and I stopped after two bites and left the rest. Disappointing. What was also interesting was that there was nothing to the sandwich nearly 14 bucks later....It was just ciabatta bread, dry meatballs, kale and aioli ...that's it. Too plain. Now, if the meatballs were juicy, well seasoned simmered in cherry tomato sauce and fall-apart delicate like every meatball should be....then it would've taken centre stage and the simplicity would've just been a subservient escort. Unfortunately, that was not the case. It was just three dry meatballs on a sub. That's it. As for the service....I think there's a new breed of eateries these days. I call them "in-betweens". They are not a restaurant nor a fast food place, but something in-between. They call themselves restaurants but with fast food service.....so, kind of like a "Fastaurant". Well...tried this place. This is my first time at this location for Meat & Bread but I have been to their Gastown location previously. I usually get the prochetta sandwich (with the sauce on the side), and found the meat delicious and juicy (although sometimes may have a bit too much fat). Alright, so people always rave about the Porchetta from Meat & Bread. It's a quality sandwich but not the star of the show for me. I present for your reading (and then eating) pleasure; the MF'ing Meatball sandwich. Classic Beef/Pork Meatballs snuggled in warm coalesce with a perfectly spiced Marinara Sauce. Kissed with Gremolata (pretty sure its Parsley, Lemon, Garlic) to brighten the handheld along with a Parmesan Aioli. Lastly, Chopped Kale, which might sound weird, but further accents with colour and texture. Together, this is basically perfect a food harmony, all on that delicious bread. Like I crave for it at night, complete with dreams of wanton desire. Space is tighter than other locations, only about eight stools for seating. As other have mentioned, they don't serve on the wooden boards, but really who gives a shit if the foods bang on. No bathroom, which could matter sometimes, but this homerun does like 90% grab and go orders. If I could end this love letter off with an emoji, it would clearly be the Italian Hand Gesture. read more

I love Meat & Bread's porchetta sandwich and so happy I got to try this new branch on Robson St. located beside Five Guys, this branch is small but beautifully designed -- loved the decor and the butcher inspired pictures and displays. Once you go in, there's a sign pointing towards the ramp to where you can see them chopping up the porchetta and where you can place your order. Had porchetta with mustard and extra salsa verde + potato and leek soup for lunch. The porchetta was solid and the mustard and salsa verde were great, the bread however was a bit tough that day. The potato and leek soup was a under seasoned and not as thick. They only have around 10ish stool & bar table type seating but they do have bag hooks underneath to save space - very useful. read more

This is my 2nd time visiting this location and both times were great, for me. Pretty much got the same thing, each time. I always get the Buffalo Chicken sandwich. This time around I got the broccoli & cheddar soup. The sandwich has always been great, with no lack of items. This is a messy sandwich, so definitely would not be good to consume, while driving. The soup was pretty good too. It has more of a ground up broccoli, than chunks. This was not a bad thing. My only complaint is that it could be thicker. Croutons were added as well. The same young male employee took my order each time I was there. He was enthusiastic both times. And both times he tries to upsell the extra sauces. One of these days I'll try the Porchetta. But, ill probably stick to my buffalo chicken. read more

Super service and a perfect sized sandwich. Lots of care goes into the flavors and having a chance to try a few different sandwiches over a few days was a good tour. I'm a huge fan and regular of Meat & Bread but this store just NEVER seems to have it together. Salads are almost never dressed in any capacity, the sandwiches feel significantly less fresh than their other locations because it seems like the Porchetta meat sits out longer? This location also doesn't seem to handle a lunch rush well compared to some of their other locations. I'm almost sure I never get the sandwich I ask for, and was made for me, just one that comes off their line as they feel they've made what is for the right person. I'd love to see this store show some improvements to the standards of their others because as it stands, this is the worst of their locations I've frequented. read more

I've been going to meat and bread for years, from their first popular location in Gastown to the multiple locations they have today. I feel their food is a hit or miss at times, not all the locations are consistent. This Robson location for example was a bit of a let down compared to their early days in Gastown. We ordered their famous porchetta, as well as their turkey sandwich. The porchetta this time tasted a bit dry, and the bread was a bit on the hard side too. The turkey sandwich was very solid, the turkey was moist and classic thanksgiving dinner flavour combos. I remember before their pork was juicy, and packed with flavour. The bread was soaked with the juices and had a good chew to it. Service was good, there were only two groups of people in front of us. But mostly self serve style. I think I'll stick to their Gastown location from now on. read more

Unfortunately this location doesn't feel like a Meat and Bread. As a lover of West Pender & Cambie locations, this was on my way the other day so I just thought I would give a try to the new location. Firstly, this location DOES NOT serve sandwiches on wooden boards. Although they have some wooden boards lying around, I guess they're there for decoration...who knows. I was asked if I wanted my sandwich here or to-go. I said "here" while expecting my regular wooden board, but surprisingly my sandwich came in a box same as a to-go order. Plus, it also didn't have their sambal sauces that they always serve their sandwiches with. I was already pretty disappointed at this point. Why ask me how I want my order, if you're going to serve it as a to-go anyway, right? Later speaking to one of their employees I learned that they cannot serve wooden boards because they don't have a washroom in the store. Not sure the reasoning behind this. She didn't know why, but she said this new place is a to-go only place. Then advertise it like that! Say this is a Meat and Bread food truck or something. Don't put these wooden boards and full sandwiches on your Yelp page to mislead people. They have plenty of tables and chairs to sit around, obviously made for people to sit and eat. When I complained about the lack of sauces next to my sandwich, she said she could have given them to me on the side. How could I know though, she never really offered them to me when ordering! Coming to the actual food, the grilled cheese sandwich that I had was very sad and disappointing. Just look at the photo of my flat and dry bread with absolutely no cheese in it, and tell me if it looks like grilled cheese sandwich or a 3-day old bread piece. Maybe the thin slice of cheese they put in melted away in the toaster oven. It was almost hard to eat. Certainly not like the ones they serve at their Cambie location. Overall avoid this location at all costs and stick to the original ones. Meat and Bread should have ensured they could offer consistent taste and service before expanding into new locations. read more

Better than the original Cambie location: much less busy (for now) and more accessible in the downtown core. There is only bar seating here, around 10 seats with nice hooks for your jackets. The porchetta sandwich ($10) is the bestseller here and for good reason. At the Cambie location, it can be really good or just average depending on the meat juiciness/crackling quality/salsa verde amout, and I think the reviews for this place reflect similarly. But lucky me, I got a good sandwich today. The porchetta was juicy and flavourful, with oils seeping into the bread. Is it the most tender pork ever? No. The bread had a hard crust which is important to keep the sandwich's integrity. Salsa verde was tasty, good compliment to the meat. Crackling is crackling, crispy but wish there was more instead of a small sprinkling. My friend had the chicharron ($2) as a delightful snack and boy are those things crispy (the crunch is deafening). She liked the sweetness and heat of the sauce. read more

Beautiful location with a "hurry up and let's get it open" vibe. I love Meat & Bread so when I happened to walk past a new location I was incredibly excited! This location opened roughly 2 weeks ago. The decor and aesthetics are beautiful however you can put makeup on a pig, it's still a pig in the end. The staff all seemed flustered meanwhile there is only 5 customers plus myself in the place. The cashier while very sweet speaks broken English and couldn't answer many of my questions. This location is not environmentally friendly at all. Even if you eat in house you still receive a cardboard box for your food, the garbages were over flowing. I ordered the chicken on ciabatta while my other half ordered the porcheta sandwich. Both were great quality just like the other locations. I really hope this location takes there time and re organizes a little bit, this place had potential. read more

My only gripe is that it's pretty small for the price, so I don't think the value is there. But the quality is definitely there. This location is small, so it's really a grab and go. I was so excited to see a Meat & Bread open up on Robson. I've always wanted to go to the location near Burrard, but that location is too far for me and is always busy. This location is small - only seats around 8 people. I ordered the Cajun Chicken sandwich and was prepared to be blown away. The sandwich is filled with chunks of chicken, cabbages, lemon aioli, and pickled peppers. The chicken had a slight spicy flavour and the pickled peppers added a crunch and acidity, which was very much needed for texture. However, I could barely taste the cabbages or the lemon aioli (I ordered it on the side, but they ended up putting it into my sandwich). Overall, for $10-11, this sandwich is decent size, but not completely filling. I've heard great things about this restaurant and was really expecting something spectacular. Sadly, flavour was just average. BUT my coworker told me the porchetta sandwich tastes a lot better. read more

Finally tried meat and bread for my very first time and of course I ordered the porchetta sandwich. The service was really quick and the store wasn't busy at all around 1 pm on a weekday. I found sandwich a bit on the dry side with very little salsa verde in the sandwich. And the porchetta did have some fat in between but I still found the meat a bit dry and not the big juicy chunks I was imagining. It could be a personal preference, but I do like my I sandwiches with juicy meat and a bit more on the creamy mayo or saucy side. This is their Robson location following the success of their other two locations. Overall this location is smaller than the original Gastown joint. The decor is not as interesting/original than that location. Overall I like the porchetta the same as their original location and the service is friendly and quick. Meat and Bread is a self proclaimed hip sandwich shop and to be honest that is exactly how I would describe it. The spot is small ish with only bar seating. However, there is also a spot for yourself or if you are eating in with a friend. You walk in and place your order at the counter. Then follow your sandwich to check out. The usually offer about 4 or 5 sandwiches, a few sides, and a few drinks. I got the buffalo chicken sandwich and the pasta salad side. The sandwich was very good with a delicious celery sauce loaded on top. The bread was the perfect consistency. Provided a great bite for the entire sandwich. The pasta salad was a large portion for a side and was very flavorful. Prices are reasonable. The hours are a bit weird which turns it into a lunch/late lunch spot. read more

Contents of their sandwiches are so so good, but the bread itself is well, just not that good. It's hard and almost impossible to bite through. I found myself eating the contents mostly and breaking apart the bread - which doesn't make sense, because they're called Meat AND bread. This location is less busy and their bar seatings makes a quick possible. I finally got to try their turducken this past weekend. The poultry was moist and the bread was fresh. I always go to meat and breads original location but saw this one and thought I would stop as its closer to home. I am disappointed with the whole thing. The sandwich was moved from a traditional wooden serving board to a box, and the sandwich took 8 minutes to be served to me in a cardboard box. I had to go back and ask for mustard and then ask for a knife as it was served in a small plastic container. And the mustard was sweet rather than savory. Very disappointed and think the amount of garbage created is stupid. The sandwich made me sad, it just lacked the flavor of the one on Cambie. read more

Beef was very dry to the point you had to keep chewing to be able to swallow it. Cheese was non existent. Not sure if the guy forgot to put some in. Would not go to this location again.
