We met some friends at Meadowbrook for brunch on Sunday before hitting the Davis Mega Maze. My friend has been here before and explained that you order at the counter and then sit yourself. Turns out, that's not how it works for breakfast and we were too early for lunch (bummer). The girl at the counter told us to sit on the couches in the corner while waiting for a table to open up. We did this and then noticed some other patrons, who came in after us, were hovering, waiting for a table. So I stood up to hover and was able to get a table. The waitress was sort of rude to us, basically implying that we cut everyone else in line. We explained that we were told to wait on the couches. At the end of the meal, she apologized to my friends and said she was upset because she was supposed to have left at that point. We understand that, but it's no excuse for being rude to your customers (the rudeness lasted into the meal too). Anyway. On to the food. I was bummed that I couldn't get a nice soup or salad for lunch and had to do breakfast. I opted for the Veggie Omelet (Onions, Peppers, Spinach and Tomatoes) which also had broccoli and cheese (neither of which was listed on the menu) with sourdough toast. The toast, which was incredibly thick, looked exactly the same as my husband's white bread and did not taste any different. The bread was very good and obviously homemade, but it was just not sourdough! The omelet was good, but definitely had ingredients not on the menu. The home fries were ok, but not as crispy as any of us like. My husband got the Apple Cider Donut French toast - which were 3 mini donuts cut in half and treated like french toast. DELISH. We all loved this. To beef it up, he also got some eggs, home fries and toast. One of our friends got the Macintosh Omelet (Cinnamon Apples and Sausage) which was also delicious and a perfect combination of savory & sweet. Our other friend got a Bagel sandwich, which looked tasty. We bought a half-gallon of cider to have with our meal (SOOOO good) and a half-peck of apples to have at home (O.M.G. The Macoun apples are AMAZEBALLS). Overall, I love the idea of this little farm store/restaurant. The breakfast lives a bit to be desired, but the prices are decent. If I lived closer, I'd probably go back. But given that it's about an hour drive from my place, it's not someplace I'd make a special trip just to eat. I'm leaning toward 3.5 stars, but I'll give it 4 for its charm and the view out the back window! read more

I've been a few times now. Really nice vibe to the place set in an orchard on a farm road on top of a small hill. Locals and a few tourists sat side by side eating great homemade food crafted with care at affordable prices. We've been coming here for a few years now. I will never forget the first time my husband (then boy friend) took me here for breakfast and how blown away I was when I was eating the most delicious apple omelette outside right near the apple orchards! That definitely impressed this city girl! We had one mishap there once a couple years back though ..We had put in our order for breakfast and it had been nearly 1 hour still waiting! Well, those ridiculous "power ranger" looking bikers in spandex had come in droves and Meadowbrook had decided to put their orders above ours and the rest of their regular customers that day. after waiting over an hour, we left and complained. And of course as we were leaving the waitress had come with our food . Well, we let 2 years pass and decided to return and we are glad we did. They actually had a decent lunch and my husband thinks they make the best sandwiches. As always the coffee is excellent with free refills. As an apple orchard/store: 4 stars As a restaurant: 2 stars. We went there for breakfast, and the food was mediocre. Not bad, not great. The plates and utensils and cups were all disposable. Hot drinks were self serve and we had to specially ask for water. It wasn't at all what I expected. The waitresses were alright, one nice, one not so nice. Overall a disappointing experience. But having said that they have a beautiful orchard, covering a lot of land so there's lots to see and explore. The bags are reasonably priced and they have a lot of cool things in the store that are apple related, local food products, or just knick knacks and pretty things. Normally I'm all about supporting local business but I don't think I'd go back for their food. read more

Even Better the second time around! Came again yesterday with Dawn and Amy, and sampled the Panini Lunch Special. Great deal for lunch, and the Roast beef with Bacon and carmelized onions sandwich I had was freaking delicious. The panini's are spread with garlic butter, prior to grilling. The smell hit us, when we drove up, and we were salivating before we hit the door. Lunch Special = Sandwich with a soup or salad, plus chips, plus pickle, a sampling of apples, and dessert. If you want warm apple crisp, or a dumpling, you pay an extra 50 cents. I got cider donuts for Sweetie, and they were a little rubbery, and too sugary for our liking. The Ginger Molasses cookie I got was really great, though. I am slowly realizing that I'll have to wait in the crazy lines at Honeypot Hill, for their donuts. Or drive up to Russell's, or drive way out to Atkin's. If you are gonna get cider donuts, get them somewhere that makes them all through the day, so you can get them fresh, and still warm. We stopped on for Breakfast on the 19th and I was a bit stunned at what we were greeted with...and not in a good way! We walked around for a bit to find a clean table. Most of the tables had crumbles of food and and grease markings on them from prior customers (quite possibly from the prior day). After selecting a table that was somewhat clean (still needed a wipedown) I was awestruck by the sun radiating in and really highlighting all of the food on the floor along with the tables. It was appalling. By this point the breakfast that we had ordered had arrived... no complaints with the food that I was eating, just with all of the food bits I was surrounded by. Two people working, six people eating and not a whole lot going on. Someone could have really taken the time to wipe the tables and sweep the floor I have dined here many a night in the summer and once in the morning prior and this is NOT what I am used to from Meadowbrook. Their apple cider donuts are to die for! They only make them on the weekend but they are worth braving the crowds for. Their bacon is excellent as well as their sausage patties. My son had the Big Boy. It's a bagel with a sunny side up egg, bacon and sausage. He was very satisfied with this breakfast sandwich and went back to have it again later in the week. I had scrambled eggs with toast and sausage and it was plenty of food. The coffee was very good. I like how they have it set up to the right of where you order and you help yourself. They are old fashioned in that you order at the counter and pay at the register when you are done. We tried a side order of the French toast and that was delicious with their real maple syrup but the cider donut French toast took the cake! Oh, God, Yelp. I really have to thank you for pointing me in the direction of Meadowbrook Orchards. We were at Davis Farmland, and we got hungry. Obviously we didn't expect them to have much to offer us in the way of vegetarian fare, but when we went to scout out our options, we discovered a roasted veggie wrap in one spot and a veggie burger in another. Fine. We decided to order the wraps, despite their ridonk pricetag. Aaaand then the girl told us they didn't have any. Fine. We'll go to the other spot and get the veggie burgers (which didn't look very good, and were expensive). That was a bust too ("We ran out, and they will take 20 minutes to cook." WHAT! How can it take 20 minutes to cook a dang veggie burger?! Christ.) And with that, I decided that the food gods were looking down on me, telling me that there were brighter moments ahead, if only I looked to Yelp. Yelp told me that Meadowbrook Orchards was less than one mile away. See ya next time, baby goats! We were out of there. We found this spot quite easily, and since we had brought lunch for our wee one, the mister and I decided to split the big lunch. So, for $14, we got: an egg salad sandwich on sourdough bread, two cups of roasted red pepper asiago soup, two slices of watermelon, two pickles, two bags of chips, one slice of forest berry pie, one bottle of water, and one bottle of Izze. And that $14 included the split plate charge. I sat there, enjoying that most delicious food, thinking about how leaving the Farmland and hitting up Meadowbrook Orchards was one of the best decisions I'd made all month. Next time our little lady wants to go see the baby goats, we'll stop at Meadowbrook Orchards beforehand and pick up some lunch to eat picnic-style in between animal visits. After an afternoon of errands all over the metro-west, my wife and I needed to get lunch and I didn't want to just settle for a mass produced burger or sub. Thankfully, I had the Yelp app on my phone and searched for 'sandwich' near Sterling, MA. Meadowbrook Orchards was one of the highest rated locations and it was only a few miles from where we were, so we made the short trip to their location. The actual sandwich shop/retail space is an unassuming building with a decent amount of parking. The interior is airy and spacious, with plenty of tables to sit down and enjoy your meal, buffeted by numerous racks and cases full of tasty treats like cookies, cakes, and pies. You place your order a the counter that sits on the edge of their open kitchen where we watched their employees mix up dough for cookies and actually prepare our meals. My wife and I both went with a sandwich plate that comes with fruit, pickle, chips, and the sandwich. I believe they cost about $7 per plate and the portions were plentiful at that price. I chose a special of the day, beef brisket sandwich on some delicious herbed focaccia and my wife chose a chicken quesadilla wrap. After scribbling our orders on their low-tech order form, we had our sandwiches delivered to us after a short. We enjoyed our meals at a table inside, right next to a window, which offered a gorgeous view of their orchards and surrounding countryside. They had tables available outside with umbrellas, as well, but we opted to stay cooler inside. Both meals were terrific. The beef brisket was moist and tender, with a very flavorful sauce. My wife's quesadilla was similarly well received and we both felt fulfilled. On the way out, we grabbed a huge chocolate chip cookie for the ride home and savored each bite of that in the car. I would give this place six stars if I could. Why you ask? Great food (we went for Breakfast), very reasonable pricing, and friendly service. I like to think of myself as a bit of a breakfast connoisseur (a sad statement to write but one cannot run from the truth). I'll admit that after reading the reviews of Meadowbrook and taking the 30+ minute drive to Sterling I had inflated expectations but Meadowbrook exceeded them all. The food is clearly high quality and fresh. The building is a very open, charming old farmhouse (I think) with a warm yet casual atmosphere. One little flourish I really appreciated was the fresh baked bread served as toast accompanying my meal. Most restaurants will just butter a piece of white toast but you can tell the fluffy crusty bread was fresh made and it was an unexpected item to enjoy devouring. We even did a little shopping picking up a Strawberry Rhubarb Pie before we left which barely made it thirty minutes before we put it in the oven. There is a BBQ Thursday nights at Meadowbrook which I am now seriously jonesing to try sometime this summer. I'd suggest giving yourself a few hours in the area as there are a lot of other interesting things to see/do there. read more

This place is heaven on earth. For 9-10 dollars you get: chips, sandwich, soup, fruit, pickle and A DESSERT. (which is delicious). They always have a sandwich special. A few years ago they leveled their old building and I was really sad they were no longer in business. But they have moved to this beautiful new location! Their portions are big and all the food is really great. They change their menu every day so it's good to call ahead and see what is available if you are interested. Meadowbrook has drool worthy food, super friendly staff and a super relaxing atmosphere. We thoroughly enjoyed sitting outside, under the canopy over the orchards. The food (BLT w/avocado and a ham sandwich) was amazing, very tasty. And a super cute farm shop with lots of goodies. We took home an apple pie and an apple crisp. I went here with a friend to go berry picking. We got tons of delicious raspberries and blueberries. On a Sunday morning we were the only people there (surprising because normally at pick-your-owns there is an infiltration of cute families with toddlers haha). I was pretty freaked out by their fake bird call/screeching machine to scare of pests- its REALLY LOUD but hey better than pesticides I guess. We didn't have lunch in the restaurant. I was kind of disappointed in the farm store because it was really tiny- just a section of the cafe really. I guess I'm spoiled by farm stores like Russell's Orchards in Ipswich. Still this place gets plenty of stars for being beautiful, tranquil (with the exception of that damned bird call machine...) The blueberries were incredible for snacking all week. I went to get a couple of chicken pies. Their website says "Our pot pies are stuffed with chicken or beef, potatoes, carrots, peas and gravy". When I didn't see them, I asked and was told they do not make chicken pies. I said they should correct their website and was then told well maybe we are out of them, even though their was no place in the freeze with a section labeled for chicken pies. I dream of Meadowbrook Soup. For real. This establishment can pride itself on being able to consistently produce fresh, homemade and high-quality breakfast, lunch, dinner and desserts. I have been going to Meadowbrook for take-out lunch about two times per week for the past 4 years. The owner, Dave, is really friendly, easygoing, and is doing an overall great job at running the business. The location itself is worth visiting. Driving up Chace Hill Road, your surrounded by country homes and orchards. Meadowbrook is on the left, behind a huge old weeping willow. The dining room inside is cozy and clean, with exposed wood, country decor, a wood stove, and a lovely back patio overlooking rolling apple orchards. There are also shelves of unique foods and gifts. Like amish popcorn and chocolate covered sunflower seeds. Ok, now onto the food. Everything they serve is crazy delicious. For about $3.75 you can get a bowl of soup with a slab of homemade bread and butter. Or if you really want decadence, get it in a bread bowl. OHHH my god, it's no joke. They serve between 4 and 7 different soups each day. Some of my favorites are: Butternut Squash w/ Apple, Italian Wedding, Hungarian Mushroom, Meatball Vegetable, Tomato Tortellini, Loaded Baked Potato, Garden Vegetable, White Chili Chicken, Buffalo Chicken, Carrot Ginger, Corn Chowder, Seafood Chowder. I swear I'm not being paid to write this review, I just know a good soup place when I find one. Next we have the sandwiches. For between $7 and $10, it automatically comes with an apple (that they picked outside yesterday), a pickle and chips. If you get the full lunch, it also comes with soup and a dessert of your choice. They have all your typical meats, vegetables and condiments, along with hummus, burgers, dogs, bacon, egg salad, chicken salad and tuna on your choice of bread, roll or wrap. I highly recommend the wheat bread. They also have daily panini specials. They are buttery, crispy and have big ol' black grill marks on them. My favorite is the bbq pulled pork panini.... because they use the leftover bbq pork from the outdoor BBQ they hold each Thursday night in the summer/fall. (Dave built his own BBQ pit and smoker... it's the real deal.) And last but not least, the desserts. Save room. The cookies are ginormous. The best is the chocoate crinkle cookie. Ask them to pop it in the microwave for 15 seconds and it is like eating a thick, fudgy, melty brownie. ohhhh man you have no idea! The carrot cake is also not to be missed. On the way out, don't forget to take a look into the glass freezer cases. They sell pre-made frozen dishes like eggplant parm, chicken parm, broccoli-chicken casserole, mashed potatoes, soups, breads and pies. Speaking of pie- you MUST try a slice of their mile-high-apple-pie, and yes, it's as good as your grandma's. Afterwards you can head up the road to Rota Springs for a frosty ice creamy treat. Thank you YELP! after a soccer tournament in Lancaster, I went to Yelp to see where to go for lunch. I plugged in Sandwiches and found Meadowbrook Orchards. It is a bit off the beaten path and when you pull up it does not look like a place that will serve food...but once inside it comes together. Ordering is easy as they have sheets printed out with the choices - circle what you want, add your name, grab a seat and they call when ready. All of the meats were real (no gel fake turkey) and the breads fresh. the lunches come with chips, blueberries and a pickle. I had 4 boys with me and we all loved the spot. Met here as a halfway point between CT and ME. 6 met for lunch. We sat out on a sunny deck overlooking the orchards. There was also indoor seating. We all had some sort of soup and sandwich​ combinations. You make up your own orders on a ​sheet of paper, kinda like at a sushi place. You pick fillings, breads etc. Pretty cool. I had a panini​ ham, provolone. lettuce tomatoes​​e. Yuuuuummmm. Others had soups and sandwiches​ and all loved them. We were too stuffed for deserts except for a cider donut​. We went to Meadowbrook Orchard to try a new breakfast location. We have identified five areas we feel are important when reviewing a restaurant. Atmosphere: very casual, cafeteria like. There is no one to great you when you walk in the door and it is seat yourself. Having never been there we were a little lost when we first entered. Service: it is a family run place but the service we received today was very poor. Our waitress took fifteen minutes to even approach our table. The food took a half hour to come out and we ordered simple breakfast food. The waitress forgot our toast and drinks. Food: I ordered the Macintosh omelet which was delicious, my fiancé ordered the breakfast special and was not impressed. The chief forgot to modify the food like we requested. We asked for chocolate chip pancakes Value: prices higher than normal, not large portion size Cleanliness: very clean Would we return? What a delightful lunch for my wife and I and 2 friends Thursday at noon. No waiting,complete the order pad and the meals were delivered in about 5 minutes to our table. I had the crab salad on panini with chips, apple slices and sliced pickle and a cup of decaf coffee. Our friends had soups and sandwiches also with chips and fruit. Two in group had the full lunch which included a dessert. We got the apple turnover. It was huge. The dining room is pretty large and the atmosphere is informal. Get your own table with a great view of the orchards. The soups were very good and the sandwiches were very tasty. The coffee was hot and good (get your own). The price for my wife and I was $21. Very confusing as first time customers- girl behind the counter was flustered and not very helpful when answering our questions even after we told her it was our first time. I've been going to Meadowbrook for more than a decade - I loved their old setting but the new one is fine too. Actually, it's a little too spic and span for me - unlike germaphobe Tony P. I would welcome a large dog snuffling around my table, but it's never happened. Great big yummy sandwiches on super fresh bread (love their egg salad) and top notch thick soups ( chock full of primo ingredients), as well as generous breakfasts, wonderful cider donuts and great carrot cake make me a regular visitor.
