Benedict Arnold at Sunnyside Cafe in Marlborough
    Bruce K.

Tip: Be hungry. Popped in for a weekday breakfast and saw the whole bar/counter area loaded with regulars finishing their coffee. So it's got to be good. I opted for the day's "Benedict" special, which turned out to be two fried eggs, two big slices of ham, a sliced tomato on a croissant, with hollandaise sauce poured over the top. It's a good thing that she brought me the steak knife, because I needed it. Yum. And spicy home fries, which were topped with cracked red pepper. Not really "hot" but they were tasty. A lot of food. And quite good!

I had such high hopes for this place. I had read a yelp review about their eggs benny and their menu has a buttload of benny options, but sadly, the hollandaise is not real hollandaise sauce, it tasted like GRAVY!!! soooo wrong! I didn't even order the benny, I ordered a side of the sauce and I'm sooo glad I did because I would have been so angry. Although, the breakfast I did end up ordering was a big disappointment anyways. The western omelette had too much ham in it, I know what you're thinking, how could you ever have too much ham? but seriously, it was a disgusting amount and it was overwhelming. The onions were watery, so when mixed with the humongous amounts of ham, it made this watery/greasy, ugly brown mixture in the omelette that was also lacking cheese I had ordered. The potatoes looked good, but weren't that great and I suspect they were old. Husby liked his bacon omelette and he got the spicy potatoes which he also liked, but my meal was so bad, I don't think I can bring myself to go back there again. We were seated in this room that felt like a church basement. The service was quick and our food came out super fast, but none of this matters cause I don't think I"ll be returning.

How does this place only have 3 out of 5 stars?? The atmosphere is very quaint and has the small town vibe. They will prepare your food however you want it. I ordered the Robert's omellette with some ingredients left out and extra sauce. It came out perfect. I highly recommend the spicy home fries and you can totally get your english muffin grilled. I was blown away. Will definitely return.

Early bird breakfast spl with sausages added.

Totally loved this place. Tried their early bird breakfast special and it was soo good, especially the spicy home fries. The place is quite and homely. Omelette was fresh and fluffy. It all came together pretty well. They accept only cash unfortunately; but I do not mind the hassle, for that spicy home fry.

The Sunnyside Cafe was A+ breakfast. We sat at the bar seat area and felt like we were in Cheers. We are not locals but they made us feel like locals. Blueberry pancakes, sausage links and Benedict Arnold were out of this world. Cash only, no exceptions.

    Fresh coffee!!!

The service and food is good. For some weeks the heat is not on. It is uncomfortably cold.

There was an abundance of Parmesan cheese on the salad as well, however it was molded! Needless to say I sent it back untouched and did not order anything else as I was a bit disgusted that the kitchen would even send it out with visible mold! I would not recommend this restaurant and as for myself, I will not be returning.

It almost has a homey feel and the servers are always friendly. Their food tends to be hearty and comforting. A few dishes I have tried and enjoyed include: - The cassoulet, which is not a traditional French cassoulet at all, but it is comforting and filling. I would give it an 8/10 (ask for extra bread). - The baked brie is really good and comes in a big portion. I would give this a 10/10. - Le Jardinier is an open-face veggie sandwich. It has a lot piled on the bread, so it can get a bit soggy, but it is a good lighter option if you do not want one of their heavier dishes. 7/10. - The gratin is sooooo good. It is a super decadent mac and cheese with thin slices of prosciutto. 10/10 - Chaider (not a food item) is my favorite drink. Upon walking inside, you'll immediately feel like you've gone back in time. It gives off a very classic, old-fashioned diner feel, with booth seating and red stools along the counter. Important to note that this place is cash only. Lobster and other seafoods are advertised as their specialty both online and within the restaurant. I never had a lobster roll before, and unfortunately, this place made me think lobster rolls were mediocre and overrated (and then I had my life changed by lobster rolls from other places). FOOD: Lobster Roll (6 oz.) (2.75/5) - I opted for mine to be served warm with butter. It came with a side of slaw and very generous portion of onion rings and fries. The lobster roll itself was lukewarm and the melted butter came on the side in a small plastic cup. (I was expecting for the butter to be more incorporated.) The lobster sat on a small bed of cut lettuce. The lettuce wasn't of the freshest quality as some pieces tasted strangely bitter. The lobster was a tad rubbery, and everything was overall bland to me. I found myself reaching for the salt shaker more than would have wanted to. SERVICE: I believe a new hire was getting trained during my visit, so it was a bit clumsy. However, I found it rather charming. They are all very warm people, and you can tell that this is a family owned establishment, which is why I really wanted to like this place. TLDR// Unfortunately, did not have the greatest first lobster roll experience here. Hopefully, I went on an off day or I was better off ordering something else.
