I ordered a cheeseburger medium rare. The first burger they sent out to me was so overcooked it was grey inside and the cheese was melted right off. Also, they forgot the bacon. I reordered and the second burger was closer to raw than medium rare. Not good. The worst was when I received the bill. They charge four dollars for an 8 ounce cup of black coffee. This was my third time at this restaurant and my last time considering every single time I've gone the food has not been great borderline disgusting and the price is outrageous. This place has experienced the ultimate downfall. First off, if I could give it zero stars I would. When our group arrived they were lacking any form of service immediately. Took around 20 minutes to get seated. Once we sat down it took another 10 minutes to get a server. Since it took so long to get any service, we told the server we were ready to order food as well. The server rudely declined and said "Nope!" and that she cant do that now and its just time for drinks. Server was disrespectful, all over the place, and called my little cousin a guy, when she is clearly a girl. Once we got our food, her meal was also messed up, and the server stated they cannot serve children over easy eggs, and instead only cooked through or scrambled. Glad they "care" about rules and safety, even though there was a hair in one of the meals given to us and my fork was absolutely disgusting. like it was literally disgusting, the picture included in this is the fork I was given to supposedly eat my meal with. Food was also cold and bland, as my brother said it tasted like "skin". We order drinks, and our food. It came out fast! except my eggs weren't how i ordered them, and I didn't get the right toast.. she was quick to fix it! I understand servers or the kitchen can make mistakes so I didn't mind. Servers would walk by complaining about their situations which again, i understand. But it made it a little awkward for me and my boyfriend so we just ate quickly, paid and got out of there. First and last time.... Two things you look for in a restaurant are food and service. Failing grades on both. Food, small portions, just ok ands I think overpriced by a third at best. Service was appaling. From being ignored for being seated, to toasted bagel served dry, to never returning to refill coffee, to absurd wait ttime o pick up the credit card and charge. If you choose another breakfast joint, it'll be a big mistake! We were a party of 3. It was our first time when we went there on a Sunday morning. The wait was less than 5 minutes when Stephen Anthony himself greeted us and then escorted us to our table. One of the first things we noticed was the cleanliness of the silverware. Stephen said they hand clean each and every one of those. Typically you will see water stains or crusted food, not these. You could use them as mirrors! Jonathan, our server was right on top of things, despite how busy the place was, and packed with happy customers. Our food arrived in a timely manner, and was extremely plentiful, and very delicious! Place was pretty empty - which is expected on a Tuesday at 10:30 - but took forever for a waitress to acknowledge our existence. And took forever to get our food. And more than forever to have the credit card picked up. We had to walk around to find the waitress to pay. Food sucked. I had a spinach and cheese omelette. It was like an egg crepe, with a teeny tiny bit of Swiss, and a ton of sautéed spinach. Seriously - the layer of spinach was close to an inch thick. The home fries were stuck together. A combination of burnt and raw. The hash wasn't hot. The English muffin was served cold. Butter would not melt on it. A western omelette was ordered with broccoli. It wasn't a bad place to enjoy brunch! The waitress was amiable and helpful. However, my husband and I both believe they were short-staffed! We actually waited for our food for about 40 minutes! They brought our food to the table; only my sister's scrambled eggs were hot, and both my husband's and my food were cold already. I am not from the place, and I am not sure when I will have another chance to go back and try it again their food. Unless you are lucky enough and receive your HOT food, I would give you a heads up on the common issue some other people have mentioned as well. read more

So Dawn E. recommended I make a stop on the way home (since I was taking Route 20 back) at this place. The Restaurant has a market next door that sells the stuff they serve. So the quest was sausage for the hubby and that was the reason for the stop. Again taking her advice, I got the maple sausage, which looks like a sausage meatball. I also got the Bratwurst and the hot Italian (it WAS a sausage). They also had a Buffalo Blue sausage (stuffed with meat and blue cheese with buffalo sauce) and the sweet Italian (which was sold out). The maple sausage was "freakin' amazing" as quoted by my husband. He was not impressed with the Brats but he did not boil in beer and peppers/onions, so not sure what he was expecting. While visiting friends in Marlborough yesterday (03/13/24), they suggested that we go to Steven Anthony's for lunch. They have gone there often and have brought visitors as well. This visit was an embarrassment for them and a disappointment for me. The menu offered a "half and half" plate [scallops & clams] with fries, "ONION RINGS" & coleslaw for $31.00 [$2.00 more than the regular clam plate]. The plate arrived with TWO miniature onion rings and only FOUR undersized scallops. When I asked the manager about the onion rings, he said they were meant to be a "garnish", not a side...... BUT for an up charge I could get a side.... I did no bother to mention the lack of scallops which DID NOT constitute a HALF plate. The menu misrepresented the meal and the manager could care less. Our server was a lovely young lady who apologized for something that was not her fault. When in Marlborough again, I will certainly not go back...... Nor will my friends who live there , be recommending that restaurant to anyone else. read more

Came here for brunch a few weeks ago. As always it was fantastic! I got the French toast with a side of hash browns and bacon. It was so delicious! I believe it's made with home made bread so the slices are so thick and tasty. I love coming here with friends for a nice sit down brunch overlooking Hager Pond. No matter the time of year it's always nice to see the swans swimming by as you gaze out the windows. *** 3.5 stars for brunch at Stephan Anthony's *** On a Sunday morning at around 10 am, it was crazy crowded with packs of people waiting for a table. We waited 30 -40 minutes for a table for 4. I wouldn't say that Stephen Anthony's is so good that it's worth waiting for, but it's one of the few places in the area, and it's in a cool historical spot (I used to bike to the penny candy store next door when I growing up in Sudbury in the 80s). Although it took a long time for the food to come out, the service was otherwise great. Our waitress was very nice and accommodating and made the whole experience great. She also gave us an entire pot of coffee for the table rather than make us wait for free refills (points!). My parents had the vegetable egg white omelet, and they both finished off their entire plate and were fascinated and impressed by the whole "egg white" concept (they don't get out much). My sister had a special, pumpkin pancakes with turkey bacon and eggs, which she enjoyed but said weren't the best pumpkin pancakes that she'd had. I had the breakfast sandwich, which while it sounded amazing, was just way too greasy. The bagel was covered in grease and I had to wrap it in a napkin to pick it up. The maple sausage was very good, but too large for me as a proportion of the sandwich. Probably not a problem for most people. All in all it was a good meal and I would come back just because of it's convenient location, but not I wouldn't necessarily go out of my way to come back. read more

I like Stephen Anthony's... but for brunch, they are basically an expensive diner, and they always get something or other not quite the way you wanted it. This time, it was my "over medium" eggs that were really over easy, such that my fish and potatoes ended up covered in runny egg yolk. The waitstaff tend to be very sweet and try hard, but the guy who sometimes hosts can be a stress case. There seem to be no vegetable options for brunch/breakfast other than home fries and omelettes. Makes me miss Ireland and Britain, where you can get a grilled tomato, grilled mushrooms, beans, etc. It is very meat centered... the menu is big, but it's not actually that great. I tried the vegetarian eggs Benedict, and it was pretty bad. The English muffin was completely unappealing, and the sauce was so bad I scraped it off. The home fries and French fries are good. I'm still trying to find a meal I love here. Maybe the seafood dinners are better. read more

Not only was I waiting over an hour for my food (party of 3) but 15 minutes after I sat, a table of TWELVE came in and got their food the same time as we did. As we got our food two meals were freezing cold, our waitress never came to apologize and a different waiter spilled water all over the table and my phone and just walked away. Brought a large family group. They accommodated use quickly on a Friday night. We were looking for fried seafood and ended up here. The fried clams are some if the best I've ever had. The lobster mac and cheese was not what we expected, but one bite and we were hooked. Some places say they use an entire lobster, well, THEY DID. There were two full claws and a large tail cut in half along with lots more meat. The bowtie pasta was under the meat and the mild cheese sause was delicate and more sauce than heavy cheddar. We would order it again in a minute. Fried scallops were a hit along with the steaks and dinner salads. Wish I had taken pictures. This is another local place I have been wanting to try for a while. All you ever hear is people raving about their homemade sausage......the sausage definitely lived up to all the hype! I came in for Sunday brunch around noon and the place was packed with a long wait! - good thing a friend came early and got our name on the list. This is a smaller restaurant all in one big open room. It is definitely not a fancy place but seems great for families and casual meals. The waitress we had was terrible. She was never around and took at least 20 minutes to bring back something you asked for - even something as simple as coffee creamer. There were a couple times we had to grab another waitress just to get a coffee refill. The food was all really good. I had a the Jamaican special that came with two eggs, coconut and banana french toast sticks and Jamaican jerk sausage. It was all really good and I love that you can get warm honey with the french toast or pancakes. read more

I have been coming here for years. Obviously there are t too many other options in the suburbs but I also think people make the drive out to Stephen Anthony's for a reason. And that is the famous maple sausage! So so delicious with bits of bacon or ham (or both?) in a slightly browned (maybe even blackened) coating that gives it a minor crunchiness. Their home fries are too potatoey and their eggs are pretty standard. This time I also got the blueberry waffles with whipped cream and that was also fairly normal. Super outdated decor but onlooking a beautiful pond where post meal goers can feed the ducks and watch the swans. The nostalgia may earn it a star but I obviously recommend to those checking out the gristmill or Martha Mary chapel Pro tip- you can get sausage to go and freeze and cook it at home. It does not even compare to the stuff they serve but it helps you learn how much fat really goes into it ;) haha read more

I am so sorry and amazed to be saying that I don't think I can ever go to Stephen Anthony's again. What happened to the quality? I had been going there for over 20 years! After waiting for a simple omelet for over an hour, I was told by the server that they had messed my order up twice already, which made it even harder to digest the fact that it wasn't even what I ordered when it got to the table, and after cutting it open, I honestly couldn't even take a bite of what I saw. To their credit, they took it off my bill without me even having to ask. The server was very well aware of what a poor experience it was, and I think he honestly felt bad for me. That being said, I do think management should have come to our table, apologized, and perhaps done something more. I honestly felt like they were more interested in getting me out the door as fast as possible rather than trying to retain a longtime customer. Too bad, I'll miss this place. read more

I just can't anymore. After 2.5 years of coming here every other Wednesday morning I'm done. When you walk in the door, you may wait ten to fifteen minutes just to be noticed, but the first thing that hits you is the smell, it's a cross between bleach and dirty dish water. The food these days is 90% miss. Order eggs, bacon and toast, which comes with potatoes and most of it is cold and half, the left half of the bacon is cooked, the right half is raw. Egg cold, potatoes bland and just not good. There is one waitress that is sweet and wonderful, the rest need to go. This used to be a good place for breakfast (not much else) but it's not even that anymore. They even lost the fantastic sandwich shop next door, probably because he did better than the restaurant which isn't shocking because he was nice, clean and the sandwiches were great (big loss to the neighborhood). This place came highly recommended by a few people I know who live in the area. I love going out for breakfast--it's my favorite meal. I was really looking forward to eating here after hearing such amazing things about their breakfast. The ambiance was fine. It's outdated, which I usually find kinda charming, but here it was dark and a little stuffy. There was a really great view of the pond from where we were sitting though, which was quite cool. Decor aside, it was the food that was so disappointing. I ordered the Eggs Benedict, my all time favorite dish, and what I received did not look appetizing at all. There was a glob of home fries on one side and a glob of poaches eggs on the other. The eggs looked more like eggs over easy, then poached (the white part was really spread out, and not wrapped around the egg yoke). Not to mention that one of the eggs had already popped and the yoke was running before it even got to the table. The English muffins the eggs rested on were cold and chewy. The hollandaise sauce was alright. The home fries were cold and on the generic side. I usually love going to places like these because usually they have the most fantastic breakfast foods. Maybe I set my expectations too high. Still, this is not a place I would return to for breakfast. read more
