The food here is great! Every time I come here the food is just delectable. The service is very nice aswell and if you come enough the staff might get to know you a little so it's nice to form a bond with the wonderful staff . Such a great place...! It's seems like a local restaurant where everyone knows you name-It's very quaint with booth & tables. They even have a breakfast counter. We were greeted with a smile and our waitress Lucy was just the best! She was always smiling and check in on us to make sure we were enjoying our breakfast. I had the eggs Benedict with a delicious Bloody Mary and my husband had a Greek omelet with a mango mimosa. An F.Y.I... We are in town for a hockey tournament and our team set up an earlier breakfast to accommodate our 30+ team/family. The staff was so kind and welcoming (even a bunch of crazy 10 year olds). Ms. Denise was so organized with how she kept all the checks sorted (player #). We ordered in shifts so we didn't overwhelm the kitchen and food came staggered but that worked out fine. I had a very positive experience today. I walked into this place on the recommendation from a local guy I met while waiting in line at the grocery store. Walking in - the place is old school diner, but incredibly clean and maintained. I had three waitresses acknowledge me when I walked into the place and Rita sat me down at the counter. I took her recommendation for the special omelette with a side pancake. It was fresh, huge and came with an order of home fries and some watermelon slices. The breakfast was great and o shall return. I was in the town of Milford for the morning, so I decided to stop by and get breakfast in the area. I ended up trying this place as it was close by. Upon walking in I was immediately seated and greeted. There was only two servers, so it took slightly longer than usual to take my drink order. I am not ordering a regular coffee and the Western omelette. The food also took a bit longer than anticipated. however, the food came out hot and fresh. The home fries and toast were perfect. Omelette was good too! Not my favorite but still pretty good, and all for $10. The service was definitely friendly but could've been a bit more attentive. This was a Monday morning and there was probably five people in the whole restaurant, so there's no excuse for not being fully attentive. Overall, the food and service were pretty good. read more

I have been here a few times and never had a problem til yesterday. My boyfriend and I wanted to go out for brunch so I took him here since he has never been. We got there and a couple people walked by us as they're headed out saying they had been waiting for 10 minutes to be seated and were not even acknowledged. As a former waitress, I try to give people the benefit of the doubt, and I'm very patient. The owner, a very sweet older woman who I definitely see is a hard worker came about five minutes later to clear a table for us and had us seated. I figured that a server would come by shortly to take a drink order but we waited for 35 minutes without anyone even coming over to our table. A bunch of other tables had left and the restaurant was starting to empty out. There were two waitresses walking around our area who would not even acknowledge us. Like I said, I am usually very understanding as a former waitress. Another couple came in 30 minutes after us and seated immediately, and one of the waitresses immediately went over to them to get their drinks. I think that was the final straw for me since we had been sitting so patiently waiting to even get coffee. We decided to leave and my boyfriend did say something before we left. I was very disappointed as we were really looking forward to coming in for a good brunch. I can tell the owner really works hard, but yikes. Maybe she needs to have a conversation with her staff the fact that they did not even acknowledge us for 35 minutes while we sat at the table is disturbing and should not have happened. I will never return to this establishment again. My family and I walked in for breakfast. After being seated, another family after us were seated. The waitress for our section proceeded to serve the family seated after us....menus, drinks, etc. she continued to ignore us. Breakfast review: Wow!! I stubble in here after visiting a friend in the area and ordered Peach Pancakes and there were amazing!! 2 large peaches and cream pancakes + two sausages for 4.95. can't really beat the value. The pancakes had a nice crust and they were soft and fluffy on the inside. They were among the best pancakes I've had in a long time and it was inexpensive. The service is a bit slow and the waitress talk for a while but if you tell them you're in a rush they are happy to accommodate. Overall, Johnny Jacks is worth a try. I'll be back. read more

First time trying Johnny Jacks! Very friendly service. Lovely waitresses. Very attentive. Nice family environment. The wait for the food was quite long but honestly the food was really good so I didn't mind. Just don't wait until you get super hungry to head over and you'll be all set. The food was fantastic! Very homemade. I had the special of two eggs, bacon, toast and home fries. The home fries were phenomenal! Nice and soft and quite flavorful. Not too salty or burnt. They were just right! My son and I love going to Johnny Jack's for breakfast - the food is great, cooked just how we like, and very reasonably priced. (I can't understand the reviews that say it's overpriced - when 2 people can have breakfast for less than $20, I've got no complaints.) There is one waitress I recognize whenever I go in - I know she's been there for years - and she is super friendly and attentive. I've never eaten lunch/dinner food here, but have had breakfast any number of times and would definitely recommend it. For something fun - try ordering the French Toast Popeye! Just beware - it's cash only. Quite a throwback in this day and age, but I'm sure it helps keep the prices down. read more

While walking on the Main Strett, we saw this place and wanted to give it a try for Breakfast. It's a huge restuarant with nice interiors and fairly decent table and chairs. Nothing that reminds you of a typical diner. I ordered Two eggs w/ Toast from the breakfast menu which says it is $4.95. On the menu it said "All the above items are served with homefries and your choice of bread - white, rye etc". Since it did not mention Coffee that is understood to be separate. As somebody said on Yelp, I thought the prices were cheap or OK. The home fries were out of this world. Very flavorful and very different from anywhere else. In the end the bill came down to this for the eggs and toast I ordered. So, for the other person who said the prices were cheap, you go figure! I have never paid this much for this kind of meal anywhere else. Eggs w/Toast = $4.95 Coffee = $1.95 Homefries = $1.95 Total = $8.85 The statment on the menu which said homefries and choice of toast were included, apparently, the waitress said, that was supposed to apply for the items immediately above the sentence which were for sandwiches and not for eggs, etc. Again, first of a kind I am seeing this here. read more

So ... the 2 stars are for the service not the food. The food is really good and a solid serving size. But ... if you're in a hurry, this is not the place. The staff does what they can to keep your water and coffee filled but it seems there is but one cook and he has one speed. :( The place has tons of potential. Someone should help them be a tad more hip. It's almost always busy ... but the customers start to grumble and complain to each other after a 30 min + wait for French toast. Average service. The wait was enormously long for a simple breakfast plate + toast. It's a 60-seat restaurant that had 6 people in it. The policies nickel-and-dimed customers (no refills on soda, tiny glasses, lots of ice), and overpriced food. To top it off, the ingredients were clearly cheap. Oh Johnny Jacks, how I miss thee! Anyone that's grown up in Milford know that one of our rites of passage into adulthood is when your curfew allows you to go here for Midnight Breakfast. No, this isn't some crazy scheme cooked up to lure in teens counting the minutes till curfew, or drunks that need somewhere to sober up after being kicked out of the bars; it's just that Johnny Jacks has crazy, messed up hours, and this is probably the best time to show up--you sure as hell can't go there past noon on most days!! It's very diner-esque, with the same wait staff as when I used to go as a kid with my parents. Used to go there once or twice a week. Food is ok, some of the servers are great but the food always takes so long to come out. That would be fine but there's usually only a few people there ..... The biggest problem is the prices. Very expensive for so so food. The men's room door has been broken for over a year. My husband has told the owner twice and each time he says he didn't know and he'll fix it. (very surprised each time) . A year has passed and it's still broken. He clearly knows and doesn't want to fix it. I'm sure that breaks some kind of privacy law..... Maybe he should look into it. The woman owner knows too! I cannot say enough about the dining experience at Johnny Jack's, nor can I count the number of times I have stopped in there for a hearty and savory breakfast/brunch. As a native Milfordian, I was introduced to Johnny Jack's from a young age and it became ingrained in me as the default diner in town, and for good reasons. During my childhood, I was lured in on school half-days by the cheap prices and plentiful dishes; as an adult, I go back for food quality and friendly staff. A warning for out-of-towners, though: while the throwback nature of Johnny Jack's is something to revel in and appreciate (the walls are adorned by photos from Milford in decades gone by), this also extends to the payment options. Johnny Jack's remains a cash-only restaurant, so make sure to have a few bucks in your pocket before heading over. For several years, I worked as a front desk associate at a couple hotels in Milford, and I recommended Johnny Jack's very highly and frequently. I'd suggest you don't come here. Overpriced, Cash-only, awful coffee, terrible kitchen. There is something about their grill. They keep it greased so much that everything tastes like oil, which is unforgivable when it comes to my eggs. I can enjoy light butter flavor or even a extra-virgin olive oil, but economy sized corn oil? Please don't serve me something from your grill if your gonna soak it in the stuff. I don't expect every restaurant to be so discerning about their oils but I do expect better ingredients for the higher prices they charge. Same goes for the coffee. I am not unfamiliar with diner coffee but this is just awful. I could continue to name things but the point is if they expect me to pay their prices AND in cash something has to be good. I have had meals at Johnny Jacks several times. If I had to choose a word to describe my experiences it would be "inconsistent". A slightly dated interior in need of a good deep cleaning. Food is mediocre, sometimes good sometimes not so good. Staff is mediocre. Coffee is mediocre. Overall an ok place to go if in down town Milford however there are better choices in the area. I have been going to this place since I was a kid and it hasn't changed in 30 years, and that is not a good thing. Still cash only which is crazy in this day and age and the seats in the booths are horrible. They are ripped up or have giant dents in them. It physically hurts to sit in these booths. The 2nd to last time I was there it was a random Tuesday and it was dead, I was the only one in there, but it took FOREVER to get my food. It makes no sense. I stopped going and gave up on this place but decided to give them one last try. My family went and it was the same as always. Terrible booths, terrible service, terrible wait for food. While waiting an eternity for my wife to pay, again cash only and guess what? They didn't have enough cash for change, we could hear the servers arguing whenever people came in about who got them.
