So glad we ventured outside of our go-to restaurants in SW Austin. We had chicken lettuce wraps and shrimp vermicelli. The word that comes to mind is 'fresh'. Had a few errands to run after work so decided to stop here on the way home. Called in my order before arriving. Got kimche fries and the works noodles. Was told it would be ready in about 15 minutes. By the time I arrived, true to their word, my food was ready and waiting! Got it home and I have to say this is the first time I've actually been disappointed. The fries were amazing as always but the noodles were a let down. I'd never had them before so when I opened the box and these were the skinny noodles as well it kinda sucked because I was hoping for large flat noodles like I've seen in some of the other reviews. Oh well, maybe they don't use those anymore. What REALLY did me in though was that the description says the noodles have pork, beef, squid, shrimp and crab. When I saw it I was leery. But figured if it was the imitation crap (no I didn't typo, I detest that stuff!) it would be spelled worth a 'K'. It wasnt. When I opened the box and saw the compressed, spray painted mold that was trying to pass itself as crab my stomach churned. Tried picking it out but not only could I still taste it but I got the unmistakeable tongue itch that I get after too much contact with that lab created failure for food. Tossed the carton. Ate a bit more of the fries. After about 45 minutes had the worst case of stomach cramps and diarrhea. Sorry to have to tell you guys that but its true. Felt bad so went to bed and slept for a few hours. Writing this review after I just woke up, I'm still feeling bad. First off, $8.50 for a good portion of garlic chicken along w/a tasty spring roll and well portioned egg drop soup = great, as is. I love this place. Everything I've ordered from here has been delicious and most of the items on their menu are around $12 and under. Most recently I ordered the Pad Thai and a large beef broth, which I only added to my order because I needed to order a minimum of $15 with of food to get free delivery with postmates (the Pad Thai is $10.50). Holy moly the beef broth is amazing! It's pho broth and it's so fragrant and turns gelatinous in the fridge which shows that they simmer it for a long time. I will never stop coming. This is my go to Asian restaurant in south austin. They have so many delicious options! Their pho is great. Their coco viet soup with chicken and carrots is sooooo good. This is a new discovery for me. It's hearty and large portion so def can get two meals out of it. Their Hanoi shrimp spring rolls are the best. I don't know who's idea it was to put the fried crunchy stick in the spring rolls, but whoever did that is a genius! Their egg rolls are also amazing. The wonton soup is good, spicy or regular are both great. Definitely get spicy if you like spicy. The shaken beef is great quality it tastes like tenderloin and is always cooked to perfection. Actually called the restaurant after placing a delivery order to make sure the driver rang the bell or knocked because I've had issues before with not knowing when food was dropped off. Guess what? It made no difference whatsoever because it didn't happen and food was cold after sitting at my door during a freeze for who knows how long. This is a very hipster Vietnamese restaurant. I love that it's clean and spacious. Dined in with a party of 10 and was glad that the wait staff out a "reserved" sign on the big table. I guess it's their way of ensuring that if a large party does dine in, they don't have to wait around for a table. Thanks! The majority of our party ordered the combination pho and commented that the broth smelled very fragrant. However, some adults did say the broth tasted like there was a lot of MSG... I got the crispy fried noodles. I just wish the noodles were more crispy versus soft since they took forever to bring my dish out. What irked me about our experience at the restaurant is my cousin had a sore throat/cough and we asked a few times for the tea that we ordered. When the waiter finally brought it out, he slammed the tea pot on the table along with the cups and just walked away. Quite frankly, we would've complained and escalated the situation to management, but another wait staff member apologized and took care of us. So disappointed with Me Con Bistro. When they first opened they were good, but have gone down hill ever since. 2 times I ordered delivery. The delivery itself was fine, but I can't say the same for the food. I ordered extra crispy chicken wings and they arrived super soggy. I also ordered pineapple and basil rice, which was a big order, but very bland. There just wasn't any flavor. Actually, it's the worst I've ever had. The Pho soup was very oily and there was little meat added. In fact it was so oily I couldn't even drink the broth. I ordered extra basil and received very little. I hope Me Con Bistro gets their act together. I don't like having to write this bad review, but after two bad delivery orders that cost me over $33 each time, I must. Nice to have a good place in South Austin. Compared to Pho Saigon or Pho Dang I actually like this place better. Triple 888 is more Pan Asian/Thai so I appreciate the small things Me Con does to their dishes that make it that much more authentic - like shredded pork. Having Hu Thieu soup is also rare to find. Starting out, the staff was inexperienced. Now, I haven't seen the same workers since and they have some pros now, quick, efficient and nice. Hope this place gets more business, as they deserve the recognition. Other restaurants are busy but only because they've been around so long and the population just flocks accordingly. Sadly, I have to take down my five star review because of extremely irresponsible service by Ashley, (with members of the staff looking on) who after telling me to take a seat anywhere in the near empty restaurant- told me the one table I selected is reserved. I had to move or no menu for me. There was No sign on it / nothing. Good food is lost when there is bad service. This is as rude and illogical treatment as one could get from their Thursday night crew. It had been my intention to come here two to three times a week and do a write up for Austin Tables and Wine magazine. As a teaching moment, the customer you have RIGHT NOW is worth twenty that you might have later. She should have handed me a menu and served. There was at least 80 % open space for others to come in. I ordered the spring rolls, Saigon rolls, kimchi fries, matcha iced green tea and shrimp fried rice. The matcha green iced tea is so so so delicious, you won't be disappointed. The Kimchi fries were phenomenal and very filling, these could fill you up if you don't feel like ordering another entree, but I would recommend that you do, because leftovers are just as great the next day. The shrimp friend rice was delicious, I would be remise if I didn't mention that they like most restaurants do skimp on the shrimp so order extra shrimp. The spring rolls were wonderful. The Saigon rolls were good as well. Overall I am happy with everything that I ordered. The vermicelli - the works was good! It was light and refreshing yet very filling. There were two types of pork, the one of which could have been a little more tender. The egg rolls were ok - a little too greasy for my liking. They also have several different types of hot sauces and fish sauces at the table to try. The service here was fantastic and the prices are very reasonable. The place has only been open a couple of months so it was basically empty when we arrived. They have a variety of Chinese, Thai, and Vietnamese dishes, but the Vietnamese dishes are apparently the items to order! Will be coming back here to try other things. read more

I recently tried the food here and was very disappointed. My favorite dish of oriental fare is Sesame Chicken. I ordered that plus Almond Chicken and egg rolls. The Almond Chicken and egg rolls were okay. However the Sesame Chicken was horrible. My order was "take out" and we live 5 minutes away so the quality of the food was not diminished by the trip home. Once home I excitedly opened the boxes only to have my excitement replaced by shock and regret. Instead of seeing succulent Sesame Chicken I had dry fried strips of chicken. I noticed some sauce that was in a separate container and tried rehydrating these strips of fried chicken with it but it was a major fail. If I owned a dog I may have given the food to him but I don't so in the trash it went (along with my money)! read more

The best pho in Austin. The. Best. I mean, the best broth in general, really. These guys are a godsend to this spot, and worth overlooking every reservation you might have about visiting a place wedged between a Taco Bell and a veterinary clinic. Within 4 days I have had the Canadian egg noodles with shrimp twice. It is so absolutely phenomenal. My date got the pho with the works; it was so good he declined to dress it with any hoison sauce, spices, and barely any basil. That's how rich and authentic these broths are. On our second visit we ordered a side of pickled onions and THAT was an excellent life decision. The fried banana dessert is exactly what it sounds like: a delicious dietary error. You should order this thing. The steamed dumplings were worth fighting over, but I recommend you don't do that with your partner. Maybe spill something on him instead so he has to go wipe it off while you eat all the dumplings. The staff is so sweet and knowledgeable about the cuisine. Later, we discussed our dreams for this place: that they open at 7am offering delicious Vietnamese coffee and breakfast foods. That they expand to include bahn mi (it's in the works). Can I give this place 6 stars? I've had pho. In San Antonio. And never understood why people went ape shit over this soup. And then I ordered it here and an omen came down from the heavens, and showed me what pho was really about. The freaking broth. The last time it was bland and not much going on. I didn't like the meat and it just wasn't good to me. At Mi Con bistro, this is a thick beefy broth, with a slight hint of heat in it. It's really good! I also got the ragoons, which were crispy and full of cream cheese. They were excellent. Service is top notch.. Restaurant is small, but clean. It's hidden behind taco smell. The prices are fair, and it's really a cute little place. I think I will try the General Tso's next time I come in. I like that they offer Pan-Asian selections. Yep.. I'm won over. We went in around 2 pm when the business was slow. When our dishes were ready, and the kitchen had ding the bell twice, the waiter kept chating with another table for around 5 minutes more. Then, even put our meals on the counter and chose to answer the phone first even we had been waiting for long and he was just a few steps from us with our meals. The pho was too soft due to in the soup standing there for too long, and the meat were too hard to chew. Then, did not show us the details of the bill, just show us the tip & sign page. Try to add up our meals and even use 10% as tax, still cannot reach the amount he charged. Definitely will not go back. There are many more better Vietnamese restaurants around the town. read more

Relatively new Vietnamese Restaurant in Austin. We are not from Austin so I cannot compare it to other Vietnamese Restaurants in the city. However, I can say it was very good Vietnamese food. Waitress seated us as soon as we walked in although self seating is available. She was ver kind and enthusiastic about the food. Based on other yelp reviews, my husband ordered the Canadien mi noodles dry with the broth on the side. And I ordered the same with the rice noodles - hu tieu. Both dishes were very good. I was surprised that the dishes were served in the wide shallow bowls - like pasta bowls - and not soup bowls. Also, the dishes were not hot. I am used to this dish served hot. But the broth was hot. We also started out with the Saigon pork eggrolls. The flavor and the crispiness of the eggrolls were perfect. If we lived in Austin, I would definitely return to try some of their other dishes. read more

It was wonderful, it was a good, smooth broth and plenty of protein... I rounded out the order with "The Works" Rice plate... It was good size portion with plenty of rice. Very flavorful.
