I am a fan of McCrae's, but not necessarily for the food. The coffee is weak and God-awful. As many have mentioned, the food portions are enormous, but so are the prices for what you get. I get the gimmick of offering a 12-egg omelet, but is it necessary? Another gripe is that you have to specify cheddar when ordering an omelet or else you'll get American, which is so-so on a burger but to me a no-no on just about anything else. What makes me a fan of McCrae's is the service. The restaurant is family-owned and their commitment to the restaurant and its customers is immediately obvious. Love this place! The food is great and the service is good. The portions are HUGE! You'll be taking some home, I promise. Try their Cowboy burger. My husband LOVES them. If we go for breakfast he gets one to go for lunch. The people are wonderful too. They close early, 2:00 during the week and 3:00 on Saturday and Sunday. I went to McCrae's for breakfast after reading a few of these reviews and was sadly disappointed. I ordered the country fried steak, eggs and hashbrowns with a coffee ($21 plus tip) The coffee was a weak version of the Folgers I brew at home for which I was charged $3.50. The smell of burnt toast wafted through the dining room as I waited for my order which didn't take long as I was one of 3 patrons in the place. The hashbrowns and eggs were good, but the chicken fried steak was the worst I've ever had. The coating was some sort of unseasoned, under cooked flour mixture. (FYI to the chef - the outer coating of a swiss steak is supposed to be crispy) The steak was cooked enough, but had a strange taste to it, like it had been sitting in the fridge way too long. The gravy was bland. It also came with one bisquit that was not freshly made that morning. (I know my biscuits) I could not finish either the steak nor the biscuit and it was a half order. Really great food and service! My only complaint is the coffee- highly mediocre. Great coffee would put this place over the top.

Don't order the special and expect it to be anything special. Tables were extremely filthy, ceiling tiles need replaced as they're turning pink not white. Waiter was willing to substitute as requested for the children, service was interesting let's say at the least, one person serves you and then ignores you, second person comes to the table (while you watch another large party sit down after you and get there order in before you) not sure of where they're supposed to be, doesn't know what the special completely includes tells you one thing and is wrong, then a very irritated woman from the kitchen comes out and explains what the special is and doesn't fully care about what you ordered or care to make offer to correct the issue. I absolutely LOVE coming to breakfast here. The portion are unbelievable! The gal that is there is so nice and manages the business excellently. I will most definately be back and bring my family from outta town to also enjoy that which is McCreas. read more

I can't speak for their other meals, but McCrae's is a wonderful breakfast spot! Their omelets are HUGE (easy to split between two out even three people) and chock full of goodies - they do not skimp on bacon. Their strawberry shortcake is also huge and a great treat! read more

The moment you step through the door, you are welcomed in. Elaine was my server. She warmed up the room with her smile. She was efficient, friendly, and accommodating. Great little spot for breakfast! Very reasonably priced and the quantities are more than enough. You know you're going to leave full when all the people leaving the restaurant are carrying to-go boxes. Clean, cheap, roomy...all the earmarks of a great little local breakfast joint. read more

Mmmmmmm!!!! Definitely my FAVORITE breakfast place!! My boyfriend and I go every Sunday. They have my favorite strawberry french toast, HUGE delicious omelets (seriously, I usually finish Half of the Half order), and the BISCUITS AND GRAVY are a must. I've been trying the same things at other restaurants, and nothing beats McCrae's. I gave up on biscuits and gravy elsewhere because McCrae's set the standard so high. :) YUMMMmm. read more

I was introduced to McCrae's when I started dating my boyfriend. I've been here numerous times. I really like the family atmosphere. We usually go now with my boyfriend and his mom, and I usually get a hot cocoa each time. The people there know us so well that they will already bring me a hot cocoa, him a diet coke, and his mom tea after we walk in. And we don't come into the restaurant once a week or anything, we could wait three months and come in and they will still know us! To me this is where you go when you want something like Shari's, I've only really had breakfast here, I think I once had a burger, but it was very large and I didn't like it. I usually get the something from the light eaters menu. I've recently moved to Tigard so this is going to be something that I miss. We usually have a Christmas Eve breakfast here, so I'll probably be there. Usually don't have too much of a problem when we bring our big group in here, however it definitely can get busy. read more

Good food and nice servers. Huge amount of food too. I enjoy going here with my family. They are super sweet here and our food comes so fast. I've never had an issue with my order or have to ask for anything. They are on top of it there! I wish they served German pancakes here and I would be here everyday lol otherwise if you haven't tried this place, you must give it a try. I get the French toast with hash browns and sausage. And coffee. If you get a soda they come in huuuuge mason jars which is pretty awesome! read more

Like good and plentiful food great place to go. Like breakfast omelets - I'd recommend ordering the half size. You will still have leftovers. Belgium waffle the way it should be (not pancake batter put in waffle iron as you sometimes get at chain restaurants). If you want elegant, fancy don't go here. I've only ever been here for breakfast on a weekend morning. The options and quality is that of a standard diner. This is a destination of choice for hangover crowds. Nothing like some classic greasy breakfast food to fix a headache. Extremely friendly staff. The atmosphere here isn't our thing. I would never wait to eat here. Went to this establishment this morning with my wife the first thing we had a problem with was ordering something for my wife which she ordered many times ,the waitress was a little bit argumentative about making the order. Then when she brought my order ,she told me the salad was a dinner salad but don't worry it's OK. I tried to tell her that it seems to be like the salad that we always get there .There was nothing different. It just seems to be the waiter or waitress that does the serving to make things different. My wife and I both suffer from ADD so it's hard to deal with at times.I try to explain to her it was really no big deal but she didn't want to listen so when I cashed out she was there and she insisted we always have a problem not to come back when I was telling her about the salad which to me was not a big deal but the big issue was she couldn't do what my wife asked because it was an issue to her but always done in the past. So I called back because she was arguing and told us not to come back in .the cook which supposedly is the manager which I asked for and he did not identify himself tells us we can't go there anymore what type of a customer service and business is this. We have both been going here for as long as this place is been open. So now I guess I will be trespassing. I guess we just could have made my wife's order with eggs which she is allergic to and had a real issue. But normally they never have a problem accommodating us. So I guess they don't want to accommodate people with allergies or things they can't eat. So from now on we will go to the other places we Go. read more

It is so sad that people think this place serves actual food. It is garbage food. Everything is from a can, carton or package. This is not home cooking, it's a sodium infused prepackaged nightmare excuse of a restaurant. If you are looking for chicken fried steak the size of your torso, or a massive 12 egg omelet, both of which taste just like salt and grease, then you should go here. My husband picked us up breakfast this morning, it was all good until I found a large black hair stuck in my bacon. I was pretty grossed out, upon further inspection, I found another in the hash browns. I will never order food from this business again. Invest in a hair net. read more

Why pay for CRAPPY service? The short chick IS THE WORST SERVER IN GRESHAM! And on our LAST VISIT, our food came out 25 min. Later and wasn't even HOT! Room temp at best, so we Bolted after yelling some expletives and paying for our cocoa and soda, which they should of compt us. So even after screwing up and not being accountable for forgetting to put our order in, they will still ask you to pay for your drinks!!! Total douch of a place. Save your money and stY home... The portions are huge and the food is mediocre. I was at first impressed with their service until I had a problem. We went for Mother's Day brunch and their till was broken, she ran my card for $41 when my check was $14. She was nice and apologized and did a refund. I checked my bank account a few times and the refund didn't go through yet. We went in again the next weekend and same thing, had a great meal. When I brought up the problem with the weekend before, she refused to do anything without seeing proof from the bank. I was willing to show her but then she told me it was my banks problem and she wouldn't even look into it unless I returned later because she was too busy. I was appalled by the way she was treating me for her own mistake last week. Needless to say, I will never be returning or recommending to anyone. read more

Had eggs, hash browns and biscuit. The eggs were ok, the hash browns tasted like a freezer and the biscuit was not edible. The biscuit was soft on the top, moist on the bottom and 1000 degrees inside. What restaurant microwaves a biscuit??? This place has no heart. read more

This has become our sunday tradition. The food is ok, but the portions are so huge. It is very traditional stick to your ribs. The small omlette has 6 eggs! Beware the country fried steak is on a plate all by itself. Service is super fast and the food is cheap. read more
