Alex's Bar in Fairview is one of those hidden gems that keeps you coming back. It's got that perfect dive bar charm--laid-back, welcoming, and full of personality and regulars. The food is really good and drinks hit the spot every time, and there's always something going on, whether it's video poker, horse betting, or the occasional poker night and other fun activities. One of the standout features is the large outdoor patio, complete with TVs and heaters, making it a great hangout year-round. That said, it can get pretty packed, and since smoking is allowed out there, the space can fill up with cigarette smoke--which isn't ideal for everyone. Even with that, I genuinely love this place. If I could suggest anything, it'd be adding a separate outdoor area in the back for non-smokers to kick it and bringing back karaoke nights. It's a dive with fantastic food. They do not use seed oils and it was worth the slightly higher prices. It's a bar and was very loud when we walked in. The noisy table next to us moved to the off track betting side which greatly increased the atmosphere. The people working there were very attentive and didn't make us feel rushed. I had a Fairview salad with grilled chicken and mom had sweet and spicy chicken sandwich with beef tallow fries. The fries were delicious! We have been longtime local customers of this restaurant for years and supported this business even throughout COVID. After what happened last night, I am extremely disappointed to say I don't know that we will ever return. Back in April, I ordered nachos during a visit with family. There was very little cheese, so I asked for some additional cheese to be brought out. It took roughly 20 minutes to arrive, and by that point I had already eaten what I could of the dry chips. Our family member, who was dining with us and witnessed the experience, later chose to leave a one-star review about it. To be very clear, the nachos were mine, but the review was his. Last night, the four of us decided to come back and give the restaurant another chance. I ordered the nachos again, and this time they actually looked fantastic. Before I even had a chance to eat them, I stepped away to wash my hands. On my way back to the table, our waitress stopped me and asked if everything was okay at the table. I initially thought she was simply checking on our experience. Instead, she told me she remembered me, accused me of leaving the one-star review from April, and proceeded to tell me how that review had hurt her bartenders. I was completely caught off guard. I did not write the review, but beyond that, I could not understand why I was being confronted about a months-old review while returning as a paying customer and trying to enjoy dinner. I felt cornered and attacked, and I genuinely didn't know what she expected from that conversation. When I had enough, I told her I was done discussing it and returned to my table. That should have been the end of it. Instead, she followed me back to our table and continued the confrontation in front of my husband and our friends. The situation escalated to her berating and yelling at our entire party. Our tabs were closed, and we left. I understand that negative reviews can be upsetting to restaurant employees, and I understand there are two sides to every customer-service issue. But customers should be able to share an honest experience without worrying that they--or someone associated with them--will be confronted about it months later when they return. What is especially disappointing is that we came back. We didn't write this restaurant off after one bad visit. After years of supporting a local business, we gave it another chance. And ironically, the nachos looked great this time. There a million ways this could have and should have been handled differently and would have had a very different outcome. The simplest would have been if our waitress simply said, "I remember you had an issue with the nachos last time and I want to make sure we got them right tonight," I would have appreciated it. That would have been a great way to turn a previous bad experience into a positive one. Instead, I was confronted/attacked about a review I didn't write. And when I clearly ended the conversation and walked away, I was followed back to my table where the confrontation continued and escalated to our entire party. That crossed a line for me. We went in hoping to give a longtime local favorite another chance. We left feeling targeted, embarrassed, and unwelcome. After supporting this restaurant for years, I never imagined this would be the experience that might ultimately keep us from coming back. read more

So, I've been in the hood for about a year. Drove by this place many times. Me and my partner decided to give it a try. Wow! We love this place. Ok so this is my new neighborhood place. First, the food is good, I picked the patty melt and fries, they even asked if I wanted to ranch, and remember to say yes to that, because the ranch was yummy. The fries are thick cut, fried crispy and really good. The patty melt was on marble rye as it should be, and the burger was definitely cooked with the onions because the yummy onion flavor was everywhere. Second, service was stellar, nice people who remembered their regulars, and checked up with me as I waited for my takeout order. Third, who has comfortable bar stools? The his place does! They are soft with backs, just perfect. My husband got the gyro and I was pretty jealous because it was also delicious. Lastly, price point, they are cheap, I could eat here cheaper than a fast food joint, and have a nice place to sit and better food. Kentucky Derby evening 2025. I sat at the bar rail and could not get served until I got up at least 8 minutes later to go 3 chairs over the service point to place my order. It was Karaoke night (which I don't recommend) so I to order food to go. I asked for a gyro with no onions and extra sauce on the side, and a Bowl of bacon clam chowder. I asked for a vodka with 7up while I wait. What I got was weak vodka/ soda that I choke down while I waited for my food. When placed in front of me I opened to find: a cup of chowder instead of a bowl, a gyro filled with onions, shy on meat, no sauce on the side, and the 2 lady bartenders complained about how busy it was and I was chastised. In the past the bartenders were attentive and the cook delivered as ordered. I hope the owner reads this and takes it to heart I cancelled my food order and paid for a drink I didn't ask for. I've contacted my bank to make sure I get the credit for the food. read more

Great place to hang out after a week of hard work. The ambiance is lively and positive. I try to eat healthy so i had the greek salad with a side of the gyro meat and it was really good. For the first time in the Fairview, Gresham, Troutdale area I asked a bartender for a suggestion and not only did they listen to what I wanted they delvered!! It was the perfect drink! She listened to a couple things I was looking for and created liquid magic for me. Fruity, not too sweet, and refreshing. Jessica at Alex's actually listens and created a delicious original cocktail. Best food you'll find at the bar. The wings are perfect, side salad is stuffed full of fresh ingredients. Lots of Greek influence so their gyros are very good. They even put gyro meat on a French dip which tasted great. Bartenders are friendly and make it a point to remember your name and the clientele are a mix of locals of all ages and bring good conversation. This is a great little bar! The best food I've had in a bar and super cheap! The Hot Turkey Sandwich is amazing and since when do you get real mashed potatoes in a bar? Grilled Cheese is delicious! Gaming is okay. I'm from Vegas, so anything here is just...okay. I play video poker, which is different from slots. Most of the machines have 7-8 slot games and one video poker. Ah well. It gets a bit noisy sometimes, but I'm old and all Get Off My Lawn! The staff is mostly really friendly. Especially the two male bartenders in the early evening. The food was quite good/priced just right and the staff were SO nice/helpful. This is clearly a sports bar with a lot of betting going on, but as someone who isn't into sports or betting, we still had a great time. They have video jukebox where you can request music videos for free, which was pretty cool. The burger and fries were tasty. We came here after a concert at edgefield since we didn't want to eat gross and overpriced Mcmennamins food. I am so glad we waited and stopped in here after. We ordered wings and they were SO good. We ordered a takeout of two orders of fish and chips, I had asked to substitute one of the fries for onion rings. Service was good, food however was horrible! We'll start off with the fish, it was cooked in old, old oil that actually overcooked the coating and left the fish undercooked. Lucky me, I got to spend the entire morning running to the toilet! The onion rings were burnt so bad that the onion in itself was dry as a bone! I cannot believe I'm giving this place five stars because it's not the kind of place I typically go to. It's a neighborhood sort of bar but instead of being hipster-ISH it's all about sports and gambling. There is well over 50 televisions up high for everyone to view plus a smaller TV at every table. It was showing horse races. Even though I'm not into all of that it made for a great conversation. I would also like to make note that the place was impeccably clean. It wasn't my personal trendy faves but cleanliness is a big deal and for that they get all the kudos. And there was the service! Crystal appeared to be the only service person on staff. She was a hustler! She acknowledged us promptly and got to us as soon as possible. I asked for a difficult cocktail that wasn't on the menu. I expected a no but she kindly replied "let me see what I can do." The drink she made me was amaze balls. And then there was the food! My husband had the double bacon cheeseburger. Of course, I took a bite. Two bites to be exact. The second bite I took very slowly so I could really think about the flavor and quality of the food. It was shockingly delicious. They tasted like handmade patties from good beef. There was two patties but the double most certainly referred to the bacon which there was plenty of. It was draping off the sides of the burger. I had the boneless chicken wings in buffalo sauce. It was real, non-processed chicken! If they told me they cut up a chicken breast and breaded it personally I would've believed them. The most unbelievable part was our bill at the end. Two drinks and two entrées only came to $29.50. What!?! The microbrew beer was only $4.50! My cocktail was only $6.00!!
