Another five star experience at the power station! Today I had the JR deluxe burger. Super delicious. I would've started ordering this burger a long time ago if I didn't read the menu item JR is being junior. I didn't want a small burger so I never ordered it. The tots were nice crispy and hot. My wife had the salad. She loved it as well. I also ordered an Arnold Palmer and it was mixed perfectly. The best thing I found today that made me so happy was they're not playing the game of adding fees, service charges, etc. I was able to fully tip what I wanted to without being charged an additional 18% on top of that for service fees, convenience, fees, or whatever else they wanna call them these days. This stop for lunch was on our list from friends and family that recommended it to us and I am so glad we went! This spot was a little interesting to find but it was fun to walk around the area and explore a little. I wish we had more time to explore. I wasn't super hungry so I did the mini corn dogs that were an appetizer so I figured it would be small but these could have fed the whole table there was so many! Service was pretty quick here and they had a fun drink menu including local ciders of different flavors. My brother and his girlfriend shared a pizza that was also pretty big and great for sharing. Power Station Pub - Overpriced, Underwhelming, and Pint-Sized Pints Tucked away on the grounds of McMenamin's Edgefield, the Power Station is a charming historic spot--eclectically decorated to match its artsy, nostalgic surroundings. So far, so good. But let's talk about what really matters: beer and food. Either my eyes have grown or these so-called "pints" have shrunk. Four years ago, the price was lower and the glass was fuller. Now my Sunflower IPA runs $7.75, and while it tasted fine, it wasn't exactly a TravelValue. Was I blown away? NAH. My wife's Smokestack Mac & Cheese ($18.75) was dry as a bone and barely warm. Not exactly comfort food. My Reuben Kincaid sandwich ($22.75), on the other hand, came out hot, as did the Cajun tots. Points for that. And yes, I rhyme sometimes ... I guess that makes me a culinary Longfellow. Still, $23 for a sandwich? Prices here have skyrocketed into the stratosphere. We've lived abroad and seen inflation, but this level of price gouging would get you laughed out of a Portuguese café. I was looking forward to our dining experience since I've heard so much about the Edgefield property. Although I love the McMenamins vibes and have had some great experiences at some of the over locations, my experience today was disappointing. When we parked in the lot, the directions were confusing on how to get to the main "McMenamins" restaurant, as Apple Maps identified it. We asked some staff members at a different restaurant who guided us to Power Station Pub. I loved that there was plenty to do on-property, and once we found a map, it was easier to visualize. The inside of the restaurant itself was reminiscent of other McMenamins locations with neat artwork and decor. We got seated right away, and our order was taken in a reasonable timeframe. I had the Black Mango Mule from their $13 cocktail menu, which was refreshing; I liked that the ginger beer and the iced tea balanced each other out and made for a delicious beverage. We ordered the soft pretzel sticks, cheeseburger slider trio, McMenamins fries, and the Portland dip. However, it took over a half hour for our food to arrive at the table, and by the time we got our food, the fries tasted cold and stale. The cajun tots that came with the Portland dip had minimal seasoning, and the garlic jus for the dip was bland and tasted like lightly flavored water (which was the most disappointing part, since the Portland dip is my favorite item to order at other locations). The best tasting item would have to be the cheeseburger slider trio, which tasted just as you'd expect it to. The service we received in the restaurant was adequate, but the staff we encountered earlier in the Black Rabbit Restaurant was very helpful in answering questions and informing us about the property. I definitely plan on visiting again in the future to give this location another chance! Especially with this location being surrounded by the concert venue, bars, and the whole nature vibe, I can picture myself taking the time to explore and enjoying another meal here. I am a huge McMenamins fan. Multiple time tripster. Power station did not live up to McMenamins standards last weekend. I think it was a victim of its own success, but was still not a fun time. Place was packed, could not hear anything, server was way too busy. Food did not come at the same time for everyone at the table, so some were done while others had barely started. The food itself was good. The turkey sandwich was as good as ever. My son and daughter-in-law had a pizza that looked great. But the ambience (and loudness) make it a 2 star. I have been to the power station several times before and would have graded much better. But last Saturday night it was too crowded. read more

Speaking of kids, the kids menu is not the best. Picky kids don't want French onion seasoned burgers or sauce. The two things my kids would eat were chicken tenders or grilled cheese. My oldest ordered the chicken strips which was $10. I ordered the adult chicken strips which was $20. Mine only came with one more strip and few more fries. My husband ordered a burger with Cajun tots. They don't even ask how you want the burger cooked. He also ordered a beer. I was staying at the Edgefield and decided to stay on site for dinner as I had an early flight out of Portland the next morning. The Edgefield used to be a lot cooler in past years where it was touted as a playground for grown ups with the microbrewery on site, movie nights and the soaking pool outside but now it's become some kind of Disney-land wannabe full of kids, elderly couples, women having a girls night out and guys doing the same, it just makes for a strange atmosphere and mix nowadays. I had a burger and fries and it was pretty standard, the brownie Sunday was way too big for me to finish by myself. I'm not a drinker so I passed in all the beers and wines. Service was friendly and prompt. I'll probably stay at the Edgefield again in the future but I don't expect amazing, unforgettable food here. read more

It's always competent and usually busy. If you know McMenamins' pubs, you already know that Cajun tots are a must and that the sandwiches, burgers and salads are good. The service can be an adventure, so adjust your expectations and just have fun. The atmosphere is always interesting in the best possible bohemian way. Summer concert season is when you frequent this pub, usually on the shaded patio, which relies on throw away cups and plates (a good reason for us to divert to the Black Rabbit restaurant inside or the BR Pub for a smaller, quieter patio experience). Second time here in a month. We enjoyed the Caption Neon burger. Juicy, lots of char broiled flavor and cooked to perfection. Disappointed they charge for a salad instead of fries. The tomato bisque soup was very good! The Rueben Kinkaid is delicious though I'd opt for turkey next time. The corned beef was very fatty. Located in Troutdale, also on the property there is a old movie theater, an old hotel, the pub, golf course, very large- lots to walk around and see. They have concerts on the lawn during the summer, and even brew their own beer/ cider, which has always been a favorite. Parking can be tight on a busy evening, the menu is pretty decent- I like the Cajun tots the most. Must visit. read more

We checked in with the hostess around 1:45PM, and were informed that there was approximately a 20-minute wait for a two-person table. No problem, we'll go wander the grounds and bit and wait for the text! Sure enough, about 20-mins later, we were seated, but I overheard newly-arrived guests being told that the wait for tables had increased to 2 hours (or more for larger parties). Dodged a bullet there! Makes sense though, as the crowd wandering through Edgefield had ballooned in the mid-afternoon to a sea of people, though it is a little weird to see a rush of tables in a normally dead(ish) part of the day for restaurants. It wasn't even Happy Hour! I guess people really wanted to get out of the house and enjoy the sunny (if chilly) weather! My wife had a couple of hard seltzers, while I sipped an Irish Mule, and we split the Hummus Mazza while spending time together and doing some writing. I'm kinda picky about hummus, as I make my own and generally find mine to be superior to anything offered in a store, so I can say with conviction that McMenamins hummus is pretty darn good, nearly on-par with some my favorite, authentic Mediterranean restaurants, although it does lack olive oil and fresh herbs. The menu here appears to be pretty standard for most McMenamins pubs, which means you will find all of the favorite staples, as well as a few entrees unique to this location. The outdoor dining tent is pretty large and can seat about a score of various-sized tables, and there is a supplementary tent with additional seating near the ramp that leads up to the Black Rabbit. As this my first visit to Edgefield in more than a decade, I can't remember what the interior of the Power Station looks like, but I hope to return when we come to stay overnight and knock out the rest of our passport stamps, once COVID is dead and buried or, at the very least, indoor dining is resumed. read more

We like the ambiance of McMenamins Powerhouse, but we finally gave up on it because it is the one McMenamins that cannot or will not get a burger right. We order them rare, but at the Powerhouse the chef only cooks it one way; well done and dried out. We thought, maybe they cook them all the same because it is often very busy there. But no, even on a week night when it's not crowded, your burger will still come back well done no matter how you ordered it. By contrast, other McMenamins that we frequent such as McMenamins Highland St. Pub, McMenamins Oregon City, McMenamins Boon's Treasury, and McMenamins Sunnyside, always get it right. Ordering a burger rare is not like a bloody rare steak, but it should be pink inside and very juicy. Order a rare burger at the Powerhouse and you will not need extra napkins because it will be so overdone that there will be no juice dripping out. Too bad, because the Powerhouse is a cool place. read more

Now this is a gravy, curds, fry lay out, no meat etc. RUN AWAY FROM THE POUTINE it was soggy cold fries, cold gravy, and cold cheese chunks, maybe not even curds... This was the first item I have brought back in years! I will pick a hair out of food and keep on truckin, but for this... it went back. For how good thei tots are, how did this happen. It was like it came from the fridge. They swapped it out for a 5 gallon bucket of tots and sauces and all was good in the world.. they fixed with no issue, I felt like a tool though, but it was not edible. Here it is the flag ship of the property. Rooms for rent. Space for function or parties. A movie theater connected to the far side. A beer house style atmosphere. This is where you go with your groups and your family. Plenty of space not usually over crowded to where you won't get in but sometimes you will have to wait. If you really don't want to wait make a reservation particularly if you have a group. There is plenty of community style seating and room and space. Make no mistake this is where you go for the burgers fries and tots. Stay in your lane this is theirs. Pizza is usually good also. As they go outside and try to be creative it usually it just not living up to the description. Service here can be a little hectic. It's big and there are groups in here of 8 or more on a regular basis so your order could be behind two or three if those groups. Expect a little wait and more time to socialize. Cozy theater, normal theater seating (didn't see recliners on entry level, didn't see loft tho) with a small bar like table in front of you to set your food/drink on. Also, arrive 20-30 minutes before the movie so that you can order before it gets pretty dark with lights out. Ate burgers with fries and ginger cider. All were delicious. Welcome to the Tourist Trap! Stopped in here a few weeks ago with my fiancée and, after looking it up online, we were very excited to try it. We recently moved here and were looking forward to trying out a McMenamins. Boy were we disappointed. First, parking is not very well designed, narrow roads and not much signage to tell you where to go. Then, once you park, good luck trying to figure out where to go. Luckily, there were a few other people that parked about the same time we did and we were able to follow them and find the restaurant. The restaurant and the complex overall have a great aesthetic, but that's the only thing they seem to do well. The wait for the restaurant was very long, which was Ok, I'm patient, and the hostess was very nice, but there isn't a whole lot of seating to wait for your table and it's right by the door and the restrooms so it was very busy. We did finally get seated and managed to order drinks. I got the cider flight, which was fantastic, and my fiancée got a beer which was Ok, but not remarkable. Then we had to wait a while to put in our order and then wait for even longer to get our appetiser and our food. Now, I don't mind waiting for good food. It takes a while to make everything, especially when a restaurant is busy, but it would be nice if the waiter stopped by occasionally to see how you're doing. Apparently we were in a long-distance relationship with our waiter, and those rarely work well. He stopped by maybe once while we were waiting for our food and we could have used some more water and maybe another round of drinks. The food itself was a solid 'meh.' I got the fish and chips which were Ok, but not great and my fiancée got a burger which was decent, but not spectacular. Overall a disappointing experience and a good indicator to skip the McMenamins properties. If you are in the mood for long lines, mediocre food, and confusing parking, but don't want to go all the way to Disneyland, this is the place for you. We had a large group and our server was amazing! I wish I could say the same about the food. I ordered the cajun jambalaya and my husband had the sliders. When our food was brought out we were told they ran out of the jambalaya and gave me broccoli cheddar soup instead. I would have preferred being asked if I wanted to order something else instead of the kitchen just giving me some leftover soup. I usually like broccoli cheddar soup but this was bland and the texture was off. The sliders had a dab of sauce and the cheese was not good. Overall the food was bad. read more

As longtime McMenamins fans and passport holders, this review is an average of all the times the wife and I have ate here, which is countless. We have had many 4/5 star experiences and unfortunately several 1/2 star ones. The lower rated times tended to be during primetime hours and on weekends. It can get very busy and slower service can be expected. One trick we've learned is to go a little later, say 8:00. Also midweek evening is better too....Like most pubs, food can be inconsistent. I usually get the Portland Dip, Turkey sandwich or the Dungeon burger. Rarely has it disappointed me. I've read some reviews that the beers are just average. I think they are way above average. My favorite is the Hammerhead. The wife like 5th Floor IPA and we both love the Seasonal Kris Kringle.... The Cajun Tots are legendary. Recently, the portions of the order has gotten smaller as the price has gone up. Pretty much the story everywhere. Still, a small basket of tots shouldn't cost $12.50. Maybe it's because of the location as the same tots are $11.00 at Wilsonville. Overall is still a fun place to go. Maybe try to avoid the rush hour. I think that will increase your chance of having a great experience. Also, if you have time, don't forget to checkout all the other small bars and cool scenery which makes this location so special. read more
