Where to begin? From walking in the door to walking out the door was an entire experience like no other. We were a large group with small children so loud and messy, but the staff did not skip a beat. Fast service, fast food and fast beverage refills. The food was amazing. We all asked each other in our group if there was one thing that they did not like and the answer was unanimously no. It hit the spot on all angles. We celebrated for my son's 17th Birthday and they came out with the best birthday serenade and sombrero for my son! Service was great with Jose, who kept us laughing, honest with getting our large group of women ready for a space travel to place like no other. I ordered a jalapeño margarita, and thought for sure it will be a basic mix with little margarita taste and watered down jalapeños. It may have been one of the easiest, well balance jalapeño margaritas I've ever had. The timing of our order, and accuracy that Jose had the entire time to make sure our food came out at the same time for a large group, was impressive. It is worth the small drive from the national park the food is amazing! Flavors and the food is top tier compared to anything close to the park ! After a lengthy hike, I was ready for brinner from a nearby diner care, but I let hubby pick & he opted for smothered hearty Mexican food....so we found ourselves at Mazatlan. Easy parking, within a shopping center lot, spacious inside, quick seating, and friendly helpful wait staff- we talked through the overwhelming menu choices -learning just what was the difference between the various specialty plates that all seemed to offer the same exact combinations (specifically the various seafood style dishes)- initially we were going to opt for trying the Charola de Mariscos, but were steered towards the Molcajete Vallarta for a richer, smokier, heartier cook- in addition, we ordered a combination platter (w.chili relleno, pork tamale, & shredded beef enchilada). Molcajete Vallarta-offered seafood variety cooked within a stone urn, paired with veggies-the explained appeal: the food continues to cook whatever remains in the urn as you dine, giving a smokier taste- At $25..meh- though the urn seems stuffed with ingredients- the full shrimp heads took up a lot of space-& the tails were quite tiny so less filling than expected- the dish listed having scallops & octopus, but there was minimal included, instead just an over abundance of vegetables in the middle- not as filling as expected..but I imagine would have been the same woe with our initial idea-as it was more so the combination of ingredients than the specific cook style that left us unimpressed. The combination platter was heartier, but the tamale & enchilada were quite dry, and often between bites I couldn't tell which was which, due to the unseasoned drier meats within & mushy outer coatings- & the chili relleno had very very thick breading- I found myself drowning everything in the refried beans or table green salsa. We were told this was the best Mexican food in the area, so we had to try it, being from CA. My hubby got the birria lunch tacos and they tasted like stew meat in tons of grease on a corn tortilla. The consommé that was served with it, was literally a cup of grease! I ordered the chili verde burrito and it was so tangy. It was mostly filled with beans and rice. The sauce tasted like it came straight from a can. We out the food we didn't finish in a to go container and we literally had to stop at a dumpster on the way home to throw it away. It was smelling so bad. I couldn't drink the margarita either. Service and ambience were good. Hopefully it was just what we ordered. I don't like giving bad reviews. We came to Hurricane to visit Zion National Park and a couple other places and for our last night here was looking for something good to eat. Mazatlan came up and I can tell you it did NOT disappoint. We got there around 5:30 but it was pretty empty, though by the time we left it started to get a little more busy. The ambience was really nice, the place was clean, there was music, and the decor was interesting to look at. Between the three of us, we ordered the fiesta something (apologies, I don't remember the name). It was DELICIOUS. Honestly, almost like a sampler of food. It had 3 or 4 different meats, rice, onions, peppers, a side of tortillas (flour, corn, or both) and much more. The seasonings and flavors were impeccable and although it came with some sort of sauce or salsa it was most definitely flavorful on its own too. Especially coming from San Diego, I'd say this dish rivals some of the Mexican food I've had there, if not better! The only thing I have to say is towards the last few bites it was a tad bit oily, but other than that it was AMAZING. Also, the staff was wonderful and the service was great. I ordered two tilapias thinking will be a delicious dish I asked for garlic butter (mojo de ajo) prep before they were cook but they wanted me to charge $10 extra so I denied paying this amount I think this is ridiculous for this extra step when I got them they were not good not enough salt they not even clean them right the still got the fish gills. The dishes LOOK expensive on the menu but the portions are massive and the quality (& temperature!) of the food was perfect -- I haven't had real Mexican food like this in years. I chose the Tacos Al Pastor (hard to go wrong there) and my partner ordered the Mexican Trio. We were both entirely satisfied by our plates, and the Coconut Flan we ordered for dessert was great too. The place was not overly crowded; the tables weren't too close together, keeping the diner spacious. Such a hidden gem! We finished a hike in Zion and everything closer was closed so we popped in here 30 before closing after calling ahead. They sat us and took all our orders without feeling rushed at all. Their menu has a wide selection of Mexican fares ranging from tacos, enchiladas, moles, various seafood dishes and fajitas. I shared a plate of combo fajitas for two with a friend and we each got a separate plate of side rice, beans, avocados and salads, alongside a massive sizzling plate of chicken and beef fajitas. We also got several fresh corn tortillas that the server happily refilled when we finished. The fajitas were well flavored with ample vegetables and peppers, we were definitely bloated by the time we got down to 1/3 of the dish so it can feed up to 3 hungry hikes. This place is a gem. Ordered classic margaritas with low expectations and they were great and came dressed with a floated dehydrated orange slice and a fresh flower, which was such a lovely touch.
