My only hesitation on a five star is that the bathrooms need a facelift. Please paint the stall doors and stain the entrance doors!! Got a taco salad was a soggy shell, all beans and iceberg lettuce, few tomatoes and olives. No flavor ground beef is 2 tablespoons and so blended beans didn't even know had meat. We dined at P & L on Friday night during the SG marathon. a very busy weekend. The restaurant was maybe 30% full, a bad sign. To start there was nothing fresh or natural. I judge Mexican restaurants first on their salsa, theirs was like bland and watery tomato sauce with a few onions. The guacamole was prepackaged and underwhelming. For the price, the quality was seriously underrated. It's as if no one cares about the food or takes pride in what they produce for a very long time. Server was nice, but I doubt she has ever uttered the words "how's your meal?" for fear of the answer. Save yourself a trip and go to Taco Bell. Let start off by Saying that Every time I travel there's never any good Mexican food but this place Surprised me and that's coming from a Angeleno. First off they have a great theme going not playing your typical La Cucaracha or El Jarabe Tapatio, they actually had los Angeles Azules, Mana, Pedro Infante, and Los Angeles de Charly playing in the background Which tells me the cooks were getting down in the back! The chips and the salsa Are screaming hot which in my Eyes that's a Good thing I don't know why someone else complained. Now the Jamaica and Horchata I will say are pretty close to that of King Taco back home. The food surprised me again and the Tacos and Burrito Mojado were good. I would say maybe the tortillas would need a Little more time on the comal but the asada was Good. The food was amazing great flavor and huge portions. I ordered the molcajete it was amazing one of the best I've had all the different meats had flavor but the salsa was amazing then the cheese as it melt all over on it it was like fireworks of flavor in my mouth. My husband got the steak fajitas and that was the best looking steak fajita the steak strips were huge not tiny little strips like everyone else does. Can't say this place is the most memorable, but it certainly hit the spot when I was in search of Mexican food! It's decently big and is decorated nicely. We went on a weekday before typical dinner time, so they weren't at all busy. Our waiter was super friendly and made conversation when he discovered that we're from Ohio. The chips and salsa were brought out shortly after we were seated. The salsa wasn't the most flavorful, but come on, it's chips and salsa. You can easily eat a full basket no matter what. I ordered the fish tacos and thought they were quite good! The grilled tilapia was delicious. I struggled to finish all the rice and beans, but I managed to stuff it all down! Not bad Mexican and pretty good margaritas. Service is always great and the place seems to be pretty clean. The bar is in its own little room off to the side so it's pretty kid friendly. The chicken flautas are good as are the fajitas. I think they season things lightly but there is salt and pepper at the table, have a margarita and just enjoy the time you have and company you're with. We enjoyed our meal here. Was it extraordinary? Not really, but it was good. The carnitas burrito had a good portion of quality meat and everything seemed fresh. The price was high for these sorts of menu items, that's primarily why I dock 2 stars. When you realize that the rice and beans are very cheap, you're paying around $15 for a burrito. I give one of those stars back because the service was *excellent*! Our server Chris was so attentive, even while being understaffed and having to run the bar and front desk. Service was good and the Ambience was good, the food was the worse I have had at a Mexican restaurant. Generally The chips and salsa will tell you whether the food is going to be good but this was a 50/50 shot. Chips were good, salsa was terrible. It was tomato paste and sauce from a can blended with some seasonings. Terrible! The food was just as bad. Look at My Chile Riano. It was coded in that crappie Jared sauce/tomato paste. There beans and rice were mush and blah. No authentic flavors throughout. Bottom line, their cooks are lazy! I ate the enchiladas so I wouldn't feel robbed. I left them throw away the rest. We stayed in a hotel close to this restaurant, so we decided to give it a try. We ordered to-go the first day we stayed and ate at the actual restaurant on the second. The reviews were mixed. I'll start with the things we liked: The girl I spoke to on the phone (while ordering our to-go order) was super sweet. The guacamole was SO good! It was really fresh and chunky, just how we like it. The enchiladas were super yummy. They used thigh meat, so the chicken was very tasty and juicy. I enjoyed my cherry empanada very much! I almost wanted to order another one afterwards, lol. As for the things we disliked: Our service was kind of slow, which was odd, considering there were only a couple of tables there. The rice was hard and tasteless, and the beans were bland. Hidden away against our beautiful red rocks I hadn't noticed it before it was recommended by family. Beautiful ambiance at your first look when opening the doors. So clean and welcoming atmosphere. Staff were very pleasant and attentive. Menu was perfect. Not to big or to small. I particularly enjoyed you could order from the kids menu if a child or over 60. Food was great. We came in here after one of our softball tournament games on a Weds afternoon , they seated about 20 of us with no notice. They were very accommodating and helped get us situated as far as seating goes. We had about 10 kids with us and they put them all at a table nearby the adults. The waitresses were very helpful and they had a great deal on appetizers on Weds. All apps were 50% off :) Our whole table said they were very satisfied with the food and drinks :) I ordered the nachos and a margarita which was very tasty. Always busy, had to wait to get in. Not sure what has happened, new owners? New cooks? New recipes? Beans were gritty and oily, rice was dry, enchilada sauce had a bitter taste. P&L is simply a good hole-in-the-wall Mexican restaurant perfect for a margarita and some tacos. We stopped in for lunch here twice and while it's not the most amazing mexican food, it's quite reasonably priced and hits home if you are looking for a good lunch spot. I I ordered the chile relleno, which was quite good. One breaded with egg batter and fried poblano pepper stuffed with queso. It was quite tasty and served with a heaping portion of rice and beans. I have also tried the P&L taco salad, which was not quite as good as the chile relleno. The guacamole was rather flavorless, and way too much iceberg lettuce and olives. The taco shell was tasty, but I would opt for the chile relleno next time. Overall, I can't complain about P&L. The service was decent and food was OK. read more

We ordered the special which was a plate with Chile relleno, a chicken enchilada, rice and beans. We also ordered a queso appetizer. The enchilada was pretty typical and tasted fine but the chili relleno tasted like something had spoiled. The queso wasn't all the way melted and it was only cheese. Sadie is amazing! We are from Las Vegas and came here with a group of 6 after riding our horses all day. Starved at 8pm awesome Sadie ran around like a chicken with her head cut off trying to take care of the ENTIRE restaurant with no help from management ( Angelo was on duty, I asked). With still no sight of Angelo helping out with servers and dyer need if bussed tables, our food was still delivered hot and good by again Sadie the one man show.
