Ate: Trout with fingerlings and Bernaise sauce- $18 Pineapple/ upside down cake with rum/caramel sauce $6 I asked for bread and they gave tasty toast points. Love this place! I was with a friend we ordered the mushroom ravioli (order the large trust me you will not regret it) the rabe broccoli. I ordered the traditional eggs Benedict. I enjoyed the meal immensely; eggs were poached perfectly toast was medium comes with side salad and home fries ( over cooked ). I will come back and enjoy brunch there again. First off, I love the ambiance of this place. Great exposed brick, comfy wooden bench seating, and an open bar/kitchen. A great kind of place to chill and catch up w/friends over brunch - you won't feel like leaving. Service is attentive and you will get as many coffee refills (for brunch) as you'd like - always a plus in my book. They have a good cocktail menu and fully stocked bar. I've been here twice for brunch - the last time on Mother's Day. The place was packed w/a wait (w/o a reservation) of 2 hrs+. I ordered a make your own omelette w/salmon, spinach, and mushrooms for $13. Tons of different options to choose from and complete w/toast, potatoes, and salad. Good portion though the potatoes were a bit over cooked. My omelette was good though eggs may have been underdone as felt a little sick in a few hours as did others in my family. They had the classic brunch options from eggs benedict, french toast, and egg sandwiches. Prices are in the $10-20 range which is expected for this neighborhood. Picture this: you de-train by Prospect Park with your beau. As you embark on your journey across the park into Crown Heights, the sun begins to set. You hear the sweet sounds of an outdoor concert. You walk down winding paths and revel at how un-New York this experience is. Then, you find yourself right in the middle of a full-blown block party. Oh, nostalgia. But let's rewind and go through that story again, this time adding in the very important detail of record high temperatures. What started off as a fantastic plan quickly became a test of brute survival. What could be worth such a struggle? My man has a friend whose cousin happens to co-own this very restaurant (coincidence? Wait a sec..). Though I love researching restaurants incessantly on this lovely medium, having a personal recommendation makes the experience more special. So there we were at Mayfield: sweaty and ready (for noms). The space itself feels like a bar/restaurant hybrid in terms of ambiance. It's dimly lit with different types of tables (we sat sat the high tops by the open kitchen) with a lively, down-to-earth vibe. And though Mayfield is advertised as a brunch spot, do NOT rule it out for dinner. I don't think I'd ever consider traveling to Crown Heights from the UWS for brunch, but if anything could help sway me, an action packed dinner that left me with a food baby yet wanting more would be it. We needed to hydrate. So we did the exact opposite of that and ordered beer (don't worry, a big bottle of water was sitting on our table and was replenished efficiently throughout the night). On this particular night, Mayfield was offering a number of wonderfully summery beers--both on tap and in bottles/cans. I typically go for darker beers so I was lost at first. However, I ended up having two very delightful beers--one an easy go-to (Allagash White, bottled) and one a new pleasant surprise (Neshaminy Croydon Cream Ale). Cheers (pun semi-intended) to finding a new beer that's not off the charts in ABV! The food here was sublime. Truly. The menu is diverse, unique and just special. Though there's nothing even close to pretentious about this spot, this is five-star dining (see: rating). Our waitress, who was fantastic and incredibly helpful, steered us toward(s) (I never know) a number of yummy small plates options, which was what we eventually settled on after some thoughtful (read: arduous) deliberation. Cornmeal-Fried Oysters w/ house smoked salmon, celeriac remoulade, horseradish cream (A+) Remember that time I only ate low-fat foods and never had any fun? Oh wait no, those are wasted years I only have to live with. In any case, this dish was quite possibly the best plate to kick off our night. Incredibly innovative in all the right ways. I've certainly seen fried oysters listed on menus before, but the flavor and texture combo taking into the account all components is unbelievable. Lox to please my Jewish ancestors and shellfish to make them hate me. Crunchy and savory, intense yet sophisticated. Marinated Cucumbers w/ candied peanuts, chili jam, cilantro, watermelon radish (A/A+) On the other hand, this dish *was* (and is) actually healthy. Light and refreshing but still flavorful. Cucumbers can easily turn out sad/boring given that they're essentially crunchy water with a vegetable label, but these were anything but that. The nuttiness was subtle but superb and the chili jam pulled it all together. Well done. Crab Melt (open-faced) w/ cheddar, avocado, pickled chilies, cilantro (A) I mean, how could this be bad? Honestly, despite the always-winning combo of crab and avo, this dish was probably the least exciting of the bunch. Don't get me wrong, it's still an A. It was everything you'd hope and quite possibly more. Creamy, rich and satisfying. I suppose it's just a bit "safer" than the other plates we ordered. Smoked Berkshire Pork Ribs w/ cider honey BBQ, pickled cabbage, fried pickles, peanuts (A++) Man, these were special and are worth allllll of the hype. Interestingly enough, I again made my Jewish ancestors happy with the pickles and not so happy with the pork. Hm, maybe I should start contemplating my faith a bit more. In any case, this cider honey BBQ was just as good as you'd expected it to be--immensely flavorful, sweet and rich. Throw your inhibitions to the wind and PLEASE order these. Unique preparation and finger-lickin' good. Special Sweet Corn app (A+) I wish I could tell you what else was in this dish but these came highly recommended and for good reason--every bite was a flavor bomb (you're probably recognizing a theme here). Sweet and savory, very rich without being overpowering. Ask about this one if you don't see it listed! As if this meal wasn't wonderful enough, we were graciously brought a complimentary dessert (the Peanut Nougatine Chocolate Semifreddo--just order it) because of the friend-of-a-friend connection. Thoroughly enjoyed brunch at Mayfield this morning. Shrimp and grits cooked perfectly with just the right amount of sauce/gravy, perfectly seasoned. I was surprised to see collard greens as the side and so delighted that they were also cooked perfectly and seasoned adequately. If you're from the South and looking for comfort food in Brooklyn, look no farther. Cocktails were also great - Bloody Mary, Paloma and Bellini were all enjoyed by our crew. I went here for brunch for the first time and I'd definitely love to go back! While it's not heated, the outdoor patio was nice and well-spaced for COVID purposes. Service was nice and patient with us, and the food was excellent! I got a classic Eggs Benedict, and the eggs were perfectly cooked. It automatically came with home fries (which were also good), and for only $13 that is an absolute *steal* in NYC! I also got a Bloody Mary, and while it was nice and spicy I had assumed it would be a bigger size than was given. I also got coffee which was good enough that I drank my second cup black. Super delicious food for brunch this chilly Sunday! Service was super fast, and staff were very attentive. We got there around 11:45 and there were lots of open tables, but by the time we left (around 12:30) it was much busier and there was a wait, so definitely recommend heading there a little earlier. The spot has a bunch of tables with low top or high top options and a bar. It's airy and cozy. I got the French toast, which comes with *real* maple syrup and fresh fruit. The food is pretty decent and the drinks are good. The eggs for the omelette seemed to be baked which was strange but the flavor was good. The belinnis were warm which was very disappointing but the had a good amount of sparkling to purée. However, the biggest disappointment was the price. For what you received and the neighborhood you received it in, it was overpriced. I get that restaurants need to support gentrification but this went a little to far. read more

I must say, sometimes eating food with your eyes is as good as eating it with your mouth - this was the case at Mayfield. We went for brunch, a popular and busy spot during that time in Brooklyn. The place was packed; we had to wait to get seated, so we sat at the bar. Eventually we were able to get a table, and our service was friendly and on point. The omelet had cream cheese inside, yes, cream cheese. Cream cheese is eggs secret girlfriend and they belong together. The picture I posted of the omelet showed how perfect it was cooked. The potatoes and salad were a nice touch, not 5 star worthy, since making good homefries is a safe way into me 5-star heart. Went here for dinner with a gal pal to catch up a little while ago. She recommended this spot and another, I checked Yelp and ultimately chose to go here. Lo and behold, it was the right choice! The decor in my opinion tips more towards an upper scale kind of casual. It was kind of loud in terms of ambiance so conversations were a little difficult to hear across the small table but the atmosphere would make for a nice intimate dinner date. Food was delicious! I had the fried buttermilk quail as my main entree. The experience was lovely and I'm so glad to have gone here. I want to go back and try this place out for brunch but parking around here is horrendous. I was circling for maybe half an hour, although I admit it was during dinner time, so peak hours for this restaurant as well as the neighborhood definitely factored into that. I often find it muddled and boring, and guess maybe I'm more of a purist, but I digress. Because I'd definitely return for a meal here. Hubby and I grabbed some seats at the bar and shared a couple dishes: Kale Salad: They know how to treat this polarizing green with the TLC it needs to shine here. Its tough center ribs were removed and the remaining leaves were cut super finely. I have a feeling the shreds were then "massaged" to soften them up and make them more pleasant to chew. I know all this crazy sh*t because this was very much like a Kale and Ricotta Salata Salad that I make at home, but with the addition of shredded apples. Delicious, though perhaps on the small side for $11.00. Fried Chicken Sandwich topped with Slaw plus Fries: When we asked our friendly bartender to help us decide between sharing the Fried Chicken Sandwich or a Shrimp Po'Boy special, he enthusiastically recommended the former. So we went with it. And honestly, 'solid' and 'well-executed' are the two adjectives that leap to mind. Totally something I'd be happy to eat again, but not more than that. So yeah... The atmosphere at Mayfield is gorgeous. It's a nice place to have an intimate dinner with a date or a fanciful happy hour with a girlfriend that turns into a decadent dining experience. I experienced the latter. My cousin arrived a little late, so I got a drink and was reading a book. This place has a casual-upscale vibe. I could see how someone could be a regular here, but it's decor is so classically beautiful that it feels like you're somewhere else... Anyway, my point is that I read a book and the staff didn't make me feel awkward for doing something non-food related as I waited for my guest. While I was reading, I ordered a drink and a few oysters to get started. We both love oysters, so that oyster happy hour is was lured us there. For a buck a shuck, let's just say we went wild. Even still we proceeded with dinner. Since the oysters were filling to some degree, we both ordered pasta dishes. Both were delicious and I now see that both are no longer on the menu. I appreciate that this restaurant has a menu that changes on a regular basis. To me that shows, that this is a restaurant that cares about it's food and is willing to take risks in the name of my tastebuds. I'm sure I'll be back for another oyster happy hour, so I'm looking forward to trying something new. Our entrees were great. I visited Mayfield for a Sunday brunch, and frankly I was largely disappointed. My friend and I both ordered the skirt steak and both agreed that it was average to above average. I've definitely had much better elsewhere. Additionally, we both ordered drinks and they sounded great, but were actually quite bad. I had to ask for some additional soda to make it better, and yet it still wasn't great. However, we did think that the space was ample, and the vibe was cool. I came for happy hour and ordered the oysters on a half shell for $1, a few cocktails, and then got TKO, which was delish and boozy with that spicy kick, and then the 1/2 sized mushroom ravioli and steak tartare. Fresh, well shucked with the usual accompaniments, and, unlike some places where they serve second rate oysters for happy hour, these were crisp, clean and obviously freshly prepped to serve. Mushroom Ravioli: Do you ever CRAVE a well made, fresh ravioli swimming in a delectable sauce and finished off with the right touch of cheese and seasoning? This dish delivers all of that and more. Oh my goodness. I had to stop myself from licking the plate the sauce was so good! A woody, savory, not overly salted and creamy mushroom sauce coats the perfectly al dente ravioli stuffed with a creamy filling and accompanied by wild mushrooms for an extra texture. I have had DREAMS about this ravioli. NOTHING compares to it. My only wish was that I would have ordered the full size rather than the half! Steak Tartare: Equally delish. It was a good portion size and came with a properly dressed (not soggy, or skimping on the vinaigrette) green salad, quail egg to add to the creaminess of the tartare and a side of horseradish yogurt for that tart/funk to round off the dish. This is and will continue to be my go to place for any visitors or anyone who asks where to go for a delicious meal. I stumbled upon this place for a last minute brunch spot in Brooklyn and found it to be charming. Immediately upon arriving at around noon, the place seemed packed and there was a wait, but lucky for my friend and I, there were two spots open at the bar. I think that was the best part of the entire experience, no wait time, and being seated right by the bar and having a great view of the kitchen and watching them make the food. I ordered the fried oysters, eggs benedict, and the peach puree mimosa. I think my issue with all the dishes was that I was not very impressed. They were good but I didn't find them spectacularly delicious. In all honesty, the food was just A-Okay. The issue was that the portions they provided were small in my opinion. The salad took up half my plate for the eggs benedict, which masked the amount of home fries they provided. The homes fries were red, which I assumed was because of a special in-house recipe, however, no details were provided on the menu. I liked the eggs benedict, however, the hollandaise sauce was not very impressive and was somewhat sour. The fried oysters were alright as well. I felt that I was eating mostly shredded cheese, which covered much of the dish as well. My peach puree drink was good, I actually liked that very much. I enjoyed the ambiance of the restaurant. It was cozy and urban, staying authentic to the Brooklyn feel. Service was alright. While we did not have to wait for seating at all, it took a while to get out orders taken and food served. Then again, we sat at the bar so there is always that factor when getting service. Overall, I did enjoy my brunch but it was mediocre in my opinion. After doing an extremely grueling boot camp in the morning with my two roomies, we decided to treat ourselves to a hearty delicious brunch at mayfield. I love franklin Ave and the new storefronts that makes it a foodie paradise. We got seated immediately for three which is unusually heard of during Saturday brunch. After weighing out the pros/cons of what we wanted to eat, we decided on our selection. Fun fact: their orange juice is like crack. It's freshly squeezed don't know where they got their oranges from but wow!! My kale salad was what I needed the crunch from the apples and the nuts complimented the ricotta cheese and the fried egg and the yolk running through as a secondary dressing was great!! Plus the side of smoked salmon I needed for a protein refuel! Since today was a good day we sat back in their patio and they have a huge sun guard so it was kept cool! In my life it's been great for... - brunch with parents -- fancy enough (I had REALLY GOOD shrimp and grits) - fancy dinner with out of town guests - burger/sandwiches dinner where you want to go out and have a date night but don't want to go too fancy. I've had a lot of memorable dishes. Their oyster appetizer is awesome. Their salads are always really delicious and never boring. Their salads have been worth trying. It's a 4 and not a 5 because their cocktails haven't blown me away and their drink list overall is expensive. We've been coming here for years. Our go-to picks on the menu are the burger and the kale salad. Both are consistently good. We brought first-timer friends for dinner on Monday night. Thankfully we had a reservation, as the place was pretty packed and noisy by the time we got there at 7:15. The waitress was really great -- friendly, checked in on us, helped select appropriate wines, etc. While we got our standards, our guests tried the fried oysters and the whole trout. I got a bite of the trout and it was fabulous...fresh and simply prepared, which is how I prefer fish. I believe the fried oysters were a hit too. We had ordered ample French fries for the table and those are always delicious.
