We were wanting Empire Buffet but settled on May Garden. Unfortunately the language barrier was the worse I've ever encountered; I ordered chicken teriyaki with fried rice. Chicken was on a skewer, was ok but not a lot of flavor. And then yellow rice??? We didn't get appetizer until after dinner was served, or spoke to afterwards when asking where garbage cans were. Maybe I'll try again but doubtful. read more

We went here today only because the local buffet is closed on Monday . We had never been here before and my gf told me that a review from 2019 said don't waste your time or money . We went anyways and we wasted $19 . I ordered a schezuan beef combo which was supposed to be spicy . The heat level was a high of zero . Not even a hint of heat . Gf ordered a lo mein with shrimp and she couldn't even eat all the shrimp because she felt that it was too mushy . I went here today for the first time. I won't be coming back. What I ordered was the number 56 which was the chicken and broccoli. I added an egg roll and from the appetizer menu I got the wontons. The beef and broccoli, in first impression appeared to have nice fresh broccoli and the chicken looked good. But this dish had no flavor!!! It was just a brown watery, flavorless oily "sauce" in there. The wontons were over fried and also lacked flavor. The egg roll was crispy but the cabbage was soggy inside and there was hardly any filling and no flavor! I only tried this place today because empire buffet was closed. Though empire has gone down in food quality since the pandemic , it's still much better than this place!! Even the duck sauce... the duck sauce was even bad!! I have no idea how this place has been open all these years!! Maybe they have a good dish but I certainly did not find it today!! What can I say about the place that was good.... Hmmmm.... The entry doors and the front windows were filthy but the dining area which is closed with plants sitting on the tables was actually looking clean. I did not try and see their kitchen area though. So I have no idea what it looked like! But I should have known better... Don't be fooled by the signs. It appears the buffet has been closed for a while. Though there are three or four tables inside, this is really a take out place now. Looked a bit sketchy as it was dark inside, but that wasn't a bad thing. Being that my five year old had a hankering for Chinese again so we tried this place out. We ordered a quart of chicken and broccoli, chicken for her, broccoli for me, and a small order or boneless spare ribs. Food was ready in about ten minutes and we were on our way. There was plenty of food and it tasted great. It definitely had her seal of approval as she ate most of the chicken. We would definitely return. read more

Very disappointing Been going to Empire Buffet for a while now, decided to give May Garden a try BIG MISTAKE Food was utterly bland and tasteless Ordered pork lo mein with fried rice. Absolutely no noodles, vegetables were mushy, maybe 2 small pieces of pork. Tasteless. Pork fried Rice mushy and tasteless, not one piece of pork General Tso Chicken is supposed to be spicy and in a sauce. Overcooked, dry, tasteless chicken, same fried rice as above Shrimp with mixed vegetables, a few shrimp, lots of veggies, tasteless sauce I did give them one star, the cashier was very nice. If you're in the mood for a Chinese lunch, do yourself a favor and go elsewhere read more

I wish there were minus Star ratings.. Worst meal I have ever had. Fried shrimp were 90% batter, I think they forgot to put meat on the spare ribs, chicken fingers were over fried as were the crab rangoon. Only thing decent were the chicken wings. So it was New Year's Eve and of course it is such a novel idea to order some Chinese food for take out, right? Living in this area for almost 4 years now my fiance and I have tried a handful of the Chinese Restaurants around and have been satisfied with a few of them. This is not one of them! PROS: 1) On New Years Eve when everyone and their brother is ordering Chinese May Garden answers the phone on the first call attempt and takes my order. 2) Average pricing. 3) Order was completed in under 1/2 hour. CONS: 1) THEY ANSWERED MY CALL ON FIRST ATTEMPT on New year's Eve???? (This should have been the sign to go elsewhere seeing how when after 32 phone attempts to reach Jasmine in Auburn MA I was unsuccessful, and when my fiance drove there for walk up service she was met by a line out the door, and after 15 - 20 minutes in line was informed that they would not be able to take any more orders for a half hour=what you would expect from a well liked establishment that has very good food, reasonably priced, and has developed quite the customer base over the years) 2) The food was HORRIBLE!!! Ordered appetizers, pork fried rice, chicken fingers, chicken wings, beef teriyaki, boneless ribs, and beef & broccoli. (The boneless ribs were actually good, the broccoli & beef was okay but everything else was AWFUL!) 3) They will not except credit/debit card payments over the phone. Lesson learned: do not expect to be able to get Chinese food from a GOOD establishment on New Year's Eve without a long wait, or perhaps just wait until after 9 PM when many of the customers have gone away and there will be less of a wait. In fairness to May Garden they may have other items which they offer that are good like the boneless ribs are, I just did not try them yet...and perhaps will never try them. read more

The food actually tastes OK but it has mean owners, they never turn on the heat, there's no place to eat, and I have definitely gotten sick from them once. Just once though. It's OK because they are one of the only Chinese places open on a Monday night. I'd go to Empire over this place any day but I don't like it there either. Just stay away. read more

My boyfriend recently ate here and got food poisoning from the chicken fingers. Had to take him to the ER because he wouldn't stop puking. Doctors confirmed that's what caused it. Only reason we will ever go there now is for drinks. read more

Underrated for sure. The dumplings and the accompanying sauce were amazing. They will even make 4 fried and 4 steamed. House lo mein was definitely not overcooked and the hot and sour soup was great as well. Authentic, wonderful people who run this restaurant. They take great pride in their cooking and it shows. This place is inexpensive, but that's about all it has going for it. The restaurant is extremely run down and in need of repairs. I am a frequent customer of May Garden. In my opinion they have the best hot an sour soup in the region. I perceive May Garden as a counter service restaurant for take out food but there are a few tables for dining in. The food is less expensive than other Chinese restaurants in the area and overall the food is quite good. I have always avoided deep fried food like chicken fingers and spring rolls, so I can't attest to them. I would recommend the black pepper chicken, broccoli with garlic sauce, sauteed string beans, the chow mee fun and the aforementioned hot and sour soup that I could eat by the gallon. read more

Had to grab a quick lunch and went here for a lunch combination. It was t11 and had boneless spareribs, lo mein, and fried rice. The boneless spareribs were dry and over cooked. They didn't ask me what kind of lo mein I wanted so I ended up with shrimp lo mein. I hate shrimp and just picked it out. But one bite of the lo mein was disgusting. Slop. The rice was literally yellow and dry. It was just an awful awful meal. I threw it all out at the first trash can I saw. I can't give this negative stars for a rating. read more

I lived in southbridge for many years and their Chinese is way better than panda gardens. (The other Chinese place in southbridge) they don't use msg in their food. And overall it's just way better, less greasy, less fatty, more menu options and it's cheaper. They're a cute family and I went to middle school with their children. Don't let this little hole in the wall fool you. The place is drab and cold but I don't get their food for the ambiance. Their broccoli and chicken (C7 combo) is the best in the area. I work in the area and they are great for lunch. The complaints about communication are correct, the couple that works there has a very strong Chinese accent and struggles on the phone. If you speak clearly you will be understood. They used to run a buffet style, the place is small and only has a few tables. Food is great and quick, classic american-chinese dishes. Large orders will always get a free item. Office top picks are: Fried Dumplings (quick and tasty), Seafood Delight (plenty and tasty) and the ho Phun (to share). read more

Horrible - Ordered Specialty menu item # H-4. Basically a 4 seasons type dish with "Lobster Meat". Dried out pork and beef, 2 scallops that I could find, one chunk of what I guess to be "Lobster Meat" and fried shrimp. Lobster meat smelled extremely fishy, was tough and I spit it out after one chew. Revolting was better word. Shrimp was batter fried with grease running off the batter. Brown sauce was ok, all veggies were soggy and mush. this was the worst chinese food experience I ever had and an extemely poor representation of what was one of their "high dollar" specialty dishes. I have been getting Chinese food here for years and have watched the family grow. You people that complain are stupid. They haven't had a buffet in 5 years because of the other place that is much bigger down the street but food is not as good. Someone complaining about delivery, idiot they have never had delivery, someone complaining about taking a credit card over the phone! Idiot number two. Why would you need to give a card if you have to pick it up. The food is way better then Panda Garden who cannot get an order straight and they speak fluent English.
