At 2:30 on a Sunday there's plenty of parking. There was no one else here when we arrived. They offer a buffet, but it wasn't until we entered that we found out that it was 4-8 PM. That was a disappointment. This is a Chinese restaurant. The staff is very nice. We had many options for our dinner. We had Sweet & Sour chicken and a beef, white rice, vegetables platter. I usually just stop off here on my way home from NJ to meet with a local customer over a Mai Tai, but I stopped here tonight for some take out since many of my typical options were closed. I just ordered a PuPu for 2, house fried rice and some spareribs. I was extremely pleased with the food. The rangoons, wings, HFR and ribs were delicious. The chicken fingers, egg rolls were very good I'm told (they were ordered for my kids). I'll happily return here and give them my business. I am not sure why this is rated so low. We get our take out from here like 95% of the time we order Chinese food and it is always correct, hot, and tasting good. Pre pandemic we would go in to eat maybe 3 times a year. The buffet was always solid and they did a pretty good job at refreshing everything. They still aren't offering the buffet which takes away a bit from the place but the food and service is still there. We ate in about a month ago and the owner was very friendly. Service was great but admittedly without the buffet it lacks a bit. We still had a good meal and felt like they cared we were there. I honestly didn't think Chinese food could taste bad...this was the worst Chinese food I've ever had.... the wonton soup was gross the dumplings inside was gross , the broth was gross , the pork fried rice looked like it was left overs from the buffet the chicken tasted so weird I can't even explain it. Extremely rude ..I ordered general chicken with wonton soup they charged me for a combo which comes with an appetizer but I never asked for an appetizer? So I said okay I'll have the chicken wings after I was charged.. Well this wasn't fabulous but it did solve the hunger issue. Was visiting family in Sturbridge the day after Christmas and nobody wanted to cook so take out Chinese it was. We all ordered a bunch of meals. They came with fried rice which was very plain just seemed like they only threw in a handful of peas and soy sauce was cooked perfect just was lack luster..... had to add extra soy sauce which I never do. I wanted General Taos but had to go with General Gau's was similar just more garlicky and more crushed chilli's....not hot but very flavorful. The sauce was really tasty. The Chicken pieces were the standard thigh meat fried chunks. And it had two bonus florets of broccoli. It also can with a appetizer and I chose the Crab Rangoon they were over stuffed with the cream cheese filling no crab flavor and didn't keep the crispness due the mositure from the filling. Would I order from here again maybe if I was really hungry and it was the only option but I am sure there are other much better options in town....so I don't think I will grab Chinese next time I'm in town. read more

We stopped here on NYE with a party of 11 - it was pretty early in the evening around 5. The service was decent and the food was pretty standard Chinese food. We all had the buffet which had a decent selection. Something for everyone even my picky 7 yo who won't eat anything. They had normal chicken nuggets, plain pasta, fries, onion rings and lots of fruit so even he was happy. The food seemed fresh and with the exception of one dish, there was plenty of everything. There was also a decent salad and dessert selection. The only complaint I had was that it took forever to get our check. American Chinese buffet food. The buffet is barely there. Most of the chicken dishes have a delicate breading that turns to paste in the sauce. For some reason a lot of New England places have a very light, doughy fry on the egg rolls that I'm not a fan of. There are usually not many veggies outside the pure salad section. I'd love some button mushrooms in soy sauce. But overall it's okay for a cheap buffet. Takeout is similarly okay. I finally found "spicy fried chicken with peanuts" which is halfway between Kung Pao and dry chili chicken - that's a totally decent dish. Ah, Christmas dinner. For whatever reason, my family feels compelled to serve Christmas dinner around 2 or 3 in the afternoon, which inevitably leaves me starving again around 8 or so. Enter Empire Village, the one takeout restaurant open in this town on Christmas night. My sister and I stopped in to place a takeout order. We sat at the bar and ordered a mai tai to pass the time while waiting for the food. I found mine to be tasty, but a bit on the weak side, while my sister could barely drink hers she thought it was so strong. So, for the average boozehound, I'm sure it would have tasted just right. Here's a breakdown of the good and bad from our menu selections: Chicken fingers--Good breading to meat ratio (not overly breaded) but I would have preferred them crispier Fried dumplings--Again, good breading to meat ratio, but they forgot the ginger dipping sauce!! Sesame wontons--By far the winner of the night. Apparently my sister is a connoiseur of these, as she took a bite and said "Mmm...the good chef must be working tonight. These are good and spicy" Veggie lo mein--Pretty standard, maybe a tad on the oily side, but I tend to like it like that. I'll give the food 2.5 stars, but round up to 3 for being open Christmas day, as well as being the only Chinese restaurant within a ten mile radius of my parent's house. read more

Was my FAVORITE place until I took One of my friends there for lunch yesterday. We started eating the boneless spareribs and the first couple of bites were fine I bit into another bite and the smell of rotten meat is what I was tasting. I told them they tried it they took it away prop back a new batch. I ate a couple bites it was fine very sweet! Then took another bite and the same thing another rotten piece!! we reported that the general tsao chicken was undercooked both are servings were undercooked they did nothing about that when the meal was over they asked if everything was OK and I said no it's not!!!! had a spitten piece of meat on my plates and I explain again what had happened. This is super good Chinese, especially for a buffet. I enjoyed the low mein that is made with my fave rice noodles and it's hard to get a good hot and sour soup but this was legit! The interior is dingy at best, and the food had clearly been sitting out for so long and in such small amounts it looked like it was leftover from the day before. The red bean buns were hard at the bottom with the paper fused to them. Chicken was pink and undercooked. The salad bar was laughable, with sad, white, ice burg lettuce, and slices of carrot, corn, peas, and for some strange reason, raisins. For dessert you could have small, bland, chinese donuts, or super cheap ice cream in a styrofoam cup. I ordered a mai tai and it tasted terrible. Easily the worst I've ever had. Service was okay, although my boyfriend asked for water three times and never got any. With all the great places to eat in Sturbridge, I'm kind of baffled this place exists. We've been to the buffet several times, and have also ordered take out on a few occasions. We've never been very disappointed, and we've never been completely blown away either. The buffet is definitely the best value, as there is quite a selection of entrees available, as well as included soup, salad bar, and dessert (ice cream cups included). I'm always glad to see crab rangoons on the buffet - something that I love but tends to be pricey when ordered from a menu. Take-out is a decent value too, and a safer bet if you are picky or want something not offered on the buffet (orange chicken or sesame chicken can be worth ordering off of the menu). Overall - the buffet is a great value and a very fast option if you're on the go. The food is good to average, and we've never regretted our visit! read more
