I have enjoyed many soups, love beans, the only miss so far was pork pie. It ended up cooking to a fatty mess. The flavor was outstanding. Unfortunately, there were no mashed potatoes inside to lighten the dish. The pie crust was not capable of handling the load of the meat. Ridiculously good! I've been looking for a restaurant that actually makes homemade soup. The problem is that every menu writes 'homemade soup' so when you search all these awful places come up with canned or bagged soup. But today I searched and stumbled on 'Collins Brothers chowder'! I drove 40 minutes in a rush-hour downpour but when I arrived it felt like this was the real deal, small storefront, large kitchen people buying more than they could possibly eat in one meal, all good signs, BUT THE PROOF IS IN THE SOUP!I ordered five different varieties, because maybe just the chowder was good and they took shortcuts on everything else like most restaurants do. I opened all five and tested them one at a time, each one was better than the last! I'm sure they've heard the soup Nazi jokes a million times but I've always wondered why no one really made this concept work. I managed a 300 seat family owned restaurant and nightclub so I know the shortcuts that kitchens take and I know authentic when I taste it! They offer something like 8-ish soups everyday plus some heat-and-serve meals (pot pie, pot roast, turkey dinner) and one soup for their daily special. Sure I've heard all of their soups are great, but this is flippin New England! My father and I stopped by with the intention of trying some New England clam chowder. We both envoyed our chowder. It was neither pasty nor overly salty. I appreciate how the clams were clearly the star of the soup unlike other places that add a lot of filler (i.e. potatoes). I know clam chowder is supposed to be subtle but I like chowders to have a little more peppers and herbs. Just my preference, though... Also, do spend the extra dollar for a small loaf of bread. I say this not just because I'm a little bit of a fresh bread junkie but also because it was perfect for sopping up that delicious soup. Collins Brothers is 100% takeout so be sure you understand this before stopping by. Its a cozy place without tables and chairs so you will be eating this at home or in your car. Every soup is delicious, you can't eat inside but I don't care. I've tried the clam chowder, Tuscan veggie, chili, chicken noodles/ rice, Italian wedding and they are all super delicious. Easily the best bowl of clam chowder I have eaten (and I have tried quite a few). This little hole in the wall place next to a divey convenience store is an absolute gem. A couple things to note. First it is cash only. Second there is only a single chair against a wall, so you won't be eating there. That being said, I ate my chowder in the car and it was a great lunch. It was smooth and not too heavy. A lot of the chowders that I have in New England are too doughy from the roux or too gritty. This bowl had none of that. I walked in expecting a table (I admit I didn't read all the reviews) and was met by a line. It was small, so not a big deal. When I asked, apparently they won't have lobster rolls until the spring (is that when fresh lobster is in season?). Fine. I'd rather not have canned lobster if a place is committing to only serve fresh, in season food. So I got a pint of clam chowder: thick, creamy, chunks of tender clams, perfectly cooked potato pieces... Probably the best clam chowder I've ever had. I also picked up a shepherds pie. They have a cooler with pot pies, pot roast dinners, shepherds pie, etc. My shepherds pie seemed homemade and fresh Friendly staff; quick and efficient service. Just don't expect a table. read more

Best. Soup. Ever. It's a few blocks from the Nashua Public Library, heading away from Main Street. It's a small storefront on the right. Sortof like the infamous "soup nazi" episode on Seinfeld. You order the soup and take it home, since there are no tables. Note also that the hours are limited and are listed on the website. My current faves are Hungarian Mushroom, Corn and Bacon Chowder and any of the "fish" chowder specials. They also have heat-and-serve meals like meatloaf and shepherd's pie. Finally made it to Collins Brothers Chowder! Seems that whenever I've tried to stop in previously, they've been closed for the season or were just on their normal days off. I'm glad I persisted--this is some great soup! I ordered a pint of the Tuscan Country Vegetable and couldn't drive to my destination fast enough to avoid the torture of smelling this great soup sitting beside me every painfully slow mile of the way. I need to start off by saying in general I don't like soup. Periodically (usually during the winter months) I will want some but mostly I think of soup as a hot watery mess. Enter Collin's Brothers. I happened to have a craving for soup one day and stopped by after work to pick up a quart for dinner. I chose Hungarian Mushroom and added some wild black trumpet mushrooms I picked (dried and tastes like smoky cheddar cheese). It was as if I had never had soup before and I needed to try more. The next week I had their seafood chowder and then last week I got cheddar broccoli. 20 minutes ago I got home with their Saturday special frank and beans and was not disappointed except that I thought it was a little too sweet with brown sugar.
