But today I searched and stumbled on 'Collins Brothers chowder'! I drove 40 minutes in a rush-hour downpour but when I arrived it felt like this was the real deal, small storefront, large kitchen people buying more than they could possibly eat in one meal, all good signs, BUT THE PROOF IS IN THE SOUP!I ordered five different varieties, because maybe just the chowder was good and they took shortcuts on everything else like most restaurants do. I opened all five and tested them one at a time, each one was better than the last! I'm sure they've heard the soup Nazi jokes a million times but I've always wondered why no one really made this concept work. I managed a 300 seat family owned restaurant and nightclub so I know the shortcuts that kitchens take and I know authentic when I taste it! I've written one other Yelp review in my life but these guys are that good! Suffice to say, these guys SHOULD be famous! You won't be disappointed!

Then she brought the bill before we requested no one was waiting to be seated, then refused to split the bill when previous times with a different server was not a problem. We split the bill to only 2 because thats all she could do, me paying for 4 people she denies my tip amount and says if I don't tip a 18% , theywill charge me $80 extra for a party of 6, again we were only 4 people. I am very disappointed with my service and treatment, unfortunately I don't know the server name but she is one that speaks more English. Will I go back and be bullied into tipping what they want? Probably no.

Rather than apologizing or offering to correct the order, we were told that we "should have known" this is how they make it. This is especially frustrating since we've ordered from them many times in the past and their fried rice was always made with sauces and had the expected flavor and color. Authentic fried rice is cooked with sauces that give it both taste and color, so this explanation didn't sit right with us. After being a near-weekly customer, this experience was enough to lose us. We won't be ordering again--especially now that a new Chinese restaurant has opened in Manchester.

While looking at the menu for about 10 minutes with my wife putting our order together, not a single person came in and not a single phone order. We considered leaving as this place seemed a little shady, but we placed our order anyway giving it a chance. Nothing fancy. One entree and a PUPU platter with a large pork fried rice. My wife commented on the way home that it smelled really good, and I agreed. We got home, unpacked it, and took our first bites. I noticed the fried rice had a fishy, like low tide fishy, taste but didn't say anything. She took her first bite and said the same to me. The appetizers had ZERO flavor and were just slightly undercooked and not very crispy. The Szechuan beef was ok. Very tender but lacking in overall flavor. Neither of us ate very much. Just enough to not be hungry anymore. Disappointed at best. It cost us $63 to basically feed the resident opossum in our yard. We won't be back.

I usually opt for their combo meals and it's a great way to scratch a Chinese food itch for about $13 or under. With food prices rising lately some items have gone up but it's to be expected. I would consider the place a take-out only deal. Although, they do have tables in the dining area they end up mostly being used by staff and the owners' children. For me, this definitely adds to the overall ambiance of the place. It may be a meme, but I've found it's true that if you get rung out by a child at a Chinese place the food is likely to be fire.
