Stopped by for my birthday and ended up jus sharing a meal. got the combo plate, fish was cooked perfect, scallops and clams was a bit over done. The shrimp for the most part was under cooked. Last week we had a party of 8 show up at 5:50 and we had a little wait until they could put together a few tables to accommodate us. It was well worth the wait, the lobster rolls were perfect. First time in 5 years of going the food was not good. And the waitress was not much. She never came to ask if everything was okay, never asked if we wanted refills on drinks. We went yesterday. The onion nuggets and dipping sauce were the best thing we had! My husband got the shrimp and bay scallops. They were very light colored, not browned at all and were soggy. He did get a lot of them on his plate compared to what I got but, they weren't cooked enough. I asked and was told by the waitress that the clams would have small to medium bellies. Great! Just the way I like them! I ordered a 2-way combo with clams and sea scallops. When my meal arrived I was shocked to see what I got for $33.50 There were 6 medium scallops, and 6 clams with HUGE bellies! The scallops were delicious but the clams were very soggy. I brought this to my waitress' attention. She was very nice and removed the meal from our bill. I asked her if this was the "large" plate because that was what I ordered. She said it was! Well, what is on the small plate? 3 of each? Yikes! Seriously though. $33.50 for 6 scallops and 6 clams? We used to go to the Lobster Boat in Exeter before it closed. I always got the same thing....clams and scallops. There was always a large amount of both! They were cooked to perfection too! We were heartbroken when they closed. I had a fried scallop, haddock and shrimp plate with onion rings and my grandson had a baked scallop and haddock plate. The food was very good, the fried food had a light batter and both were cooked perfectly. Our waitress was friendly and attentive, the restaurant was clean and cozy feeling. They have a variety of choices on their menu in addition to the fried, baked and steamed seafood options, they had hamburgers, sirloin tips and more. I highly recommend this restaurant. read more

Visiting relatives in New Hampshire, I was wanting some fried clams for dinner. I was taken to the Lobsrer Boat restaurant, and wow! What great food and GREAT service from Sophia! She is the best! Not to mention the clam strips and onion rings were the best ever too! I'm just sorry we only went here once, the night before leaving New Hampshire! I hope to come back in the near future (I live in California) and try some of their other delicious food! Oh ya, the blueberry pie and ice cream for dessert was the bomb! Take out. Portion size wasn't what I expected. I know seafood has gotten ridiculously expensive but 5 scallop and 5 shrimps sauted in butter for $27?? Hardly worth the price really. The broccoli side well cooked but the portion small. Broccoli is cheaper so why not be a little more generous? I will say the seafood was nicely prepared. My sister's lobster was a little overbaked and her portion smaller but overall the quality of the seafood and sides was good. Great cook. Knows how to prepare seafood. Prices are sign of the times I think. I'll need to skip and cook at home. read more

The food is delivered quickly and it's hot, but it's fairly run of the mill stuff. I was surprised by the mountain of onion rings I received, which covered up how little seafood was actually on the plate. I've heard good things so I decided to check it out. It met those expectations! They have nice patio seating (music was a little loud but when Elton John is playing it's all good by me!) The food was delicious. I ordered a grill chicken that MELTED in my mouth! French Fries were decent. Good portions for the price. Very accommodating in service and friendly staff. My party did mention to next time try the "bay" scallops Vs the HUGE Sea Scallops but otherwise it was very good. Sidenote: Two Unisex bathrooms! Had lunch with 2 friends at the Lobster Boat Restaurant today. Two of us ordered Haddock & Scallops from the lunch menu. The fish is seasoned with cracker crumbs and baked. It comes with a small but delicious side of cole slaw. I chose Rice Pilaf for my other side & my friend chose a baked potato. It comes with tartar sauce. We really enjoyed our meals. They were just the right size for lunch and we didn't leave a speck on our plates. My other friend ordered the Medley from the dinner menu. It came with generous portions of lobster, shrimp & sea scallops. Her side was mashed potatoes. She said the meal was good except for the lobster which was kind of chewy. She brought half of it home and got a bowl of chowder to go, as well. I had a Fiddlehead IPA & my friends each had a glass of wine. Our server, Darlene, was friendly and professional. Wow! We found a great place to eat lobster in New Hampshire! We wanted seafood, and we got it! We called up the restaurant to make sure they take a reservation, just in case. The girl who took our reservation was Meghan. We arrived, and we asked for Meghan. Surprise surprise, our waitress was Meghan, the one who reserved our table, perfect! We ordered lazy lobster, fried clam belly, lobster corn chowder soup, and salad. I like them all! I liked lazy lobster the most. It wasn't a lot but enough to fill me up. The lobster corn chowder was great too. Clam belly didn't disappoint either but I liked the one in Cape Cod better. Order lazy lobster! That's the best! We have been enjoying the baked haddock dinners for a long time now. However, the baked potatoes have gotten smaller and smaller. Now the potatoes are not much bigger than a tater tot, so the dinner is not filling anymore. read more

Right when we pull up to this place, my first thought was "ah...must be one of those hole-in-the-wall places". Then I was like, "uhm...where are all the customers?" Don't let that last one phase you though. Lobster Boat Restaurant is as fresh and tasty as the hype suggests. It's just they're located out in the middle of this small, desolate little town called Litchfield and I suspect not a lot of people know about this place unless they live here. There's nothing I love more than coming to New England and enjoying some fresh seafood. The best way I can describe this place is a smaller, yet more refined version of Weathervane; whilst simultaneously offering some menu items somewhat reminiscent of Clam Haven. Started out with the lobster bisque. It was creamy with chunks of lobster meat as it should be. Not the best I've had, but certainly not the worst. I was mostly shocked by how quickly the waitress brought it out to me. I'd give this soup a 7 out of 10. While my dearest cousin got the clam strip plate, I had to go with my all time favorite New England dish: the lazy man's lobster. Basically, it's a lobster which has been completely removed from its shell and seasoned in buttery breadcrumbs. And that's the keyword here: seasoning! This lobster oozed of buttery goodness right from the very first bite. And they still give you some drawn butter on the side for dipping. Add a spritz of lemon juice on top and you've got yourself a regular East Coast party! I also had a baked potato with mine lobster. It was....alright. Nothing fancy or overly impressive, really. Just your typical foil wrapped baked potato that you'd find in any other average diner. Now, I feel the need to discuss their ritual for keeping tartar sauce out on the table as if it were ketchup. This is bizarre for two reasons: 1.) tartar sauce is basically just a mixture of mayonnaise and relish with some other things. You wouldn't keep mayo out of the fridge after breaking the seal. So, why in the love of lobster bisque is this stuff sitting out at room temperature for hours on end?? 2.) If tartar sauce sits at room temperature like that, it starts to lose its consistency. Basically, you'll get this faint aftertaste of vinegar. I didn't try any, but my cousin pretty much confirmed this. What's happening is the ingredients are separating and....ya know what? I sound like a total kitchen geek, but you know what I'm trying to say here. Bottom line: warm tartar sauce is bizarre and gross. Don't get it. Just ask for the cold stuff in the back. They'll bring it out because the service here is actually pretty damn good. Bizarre condiment storage practices aside, I'm giving this place 4 buttery plates of Maine lobster with a spritz of lemon juice out of 5. read more

Always fresh and so well-prepared. We really love coming here. The service is always just right. Friendly, efficient, well-timed. Clean, bright atmosphere. Food is served piping hot. Bisque, chowder, unmatched. Delicious onion rings. Never smells fishy inside: none of the food smells or tastes fishy, just fresh. Lazy lobster is such a treat, but the lobster rolls are a family favorite, too. I always like the baked combos; the fish is always so good.
