This was our second trip to Wen Ming and we were not disappointed. I had the Moon Shi Vegetables and they were the best I've ever had. They were crisp and tasty and the pancakes were light. My husband loved the Garlic Pork. The dinner portions were large enough to split for two people and we had plenty to enjoy the next day with lunch. Really good egg rolls - they are huge, actually - and soups. The shrimp and lobster sauce is better than expected (outside NY it's not always great) and the vegetable fried rice is packed with good, fresh veggies. Reasonably priced. My Husband placed an order for 4 people for takeout. The total was about $80.00 which is about average price so that was ok. But, the food was very bland. We ordered an order of chicken fingers, crab rangoons, And dinner combos numbers 12 (beef and broccoli) , 8 (Moogoo gai pan), and 6(general chicken). That was we got egg rolls for our sides and teriyaki chicken for one of them. And we got a large wonton soup to have tomorrow. The moo goo was very flavorless and watery. The chicken was slimy and had a weird texture. I actually checked to see if it was raw but it wasn't. But weird. It kind of grossed me out because it was so slimy. The vegetables in the moo goo were fine but overall I would never order that again. The beef and broccoli was bland and watery. The chicken fingers were ok. But not impressive. Average if you will. The crab rangoons were seriously lacking flavor and there was no sweetness or onion flavor. They were very boring. They were crunchy though but that's it. I'm really surprised with the ratings from other people with a 4.3 star rating. One comment says the best place to eat Chinese in the Palmer area. No way!!! You need to get out more guy!! Whew!! The only good thing we 4 people could come away with that was positive was the chicken teriyaki. But unfortunately there is nothing else on the menu that we would want to try to come back only for that so it's a big NO for us. I do not recommend this place. We will not come back. Looks totally sketchy but if you can get past the exterior and into the messy, nondescript interior, you will be greeted by lovely young girls and seated immediately. There is a makeshift bar and a sushi bar, and a few tables. When we recognized that they were practically overwhelmed due to the Brimfield Antiques show weekend, we almost left but ultimately devided to stay, and am so glad we did! We ordered so much food! Began with 2- A1 appetizers (4 crab rangoons, 2 huge teriyaki beef skewers, 4 chicken fingers, and a huge pile of bbq boneless ribs), and tom yum soup for 2. My husband and I were staying in Palmer for the weekend when visiting the Brimfield Antique Show and we stopped at the Wen Ming House for dinner one night. The building itself is a little questionable but the food is incredibly fresh and the service was nice. I had 2 avocado rolls, and the Thai yellow curry. My husband had vegetable spring rolls, a cucumber roll, and a vegetable noodle dish - everything was delicious and fresh and everything came out in a timely matter. It has been a while since my last visit but they truly do an extraordinarily good job and have been very consistent over the years. The food quality, presentation, consistency and flavor are what sets this Chinese restaurant apart from the rest of the field. I might go so far as to say that Wen Ming is among the top five in the area. It appears they have a new and expanded menu and are doing more Asian fusion dishes along side the Sushi items they have always had. Newly opened today and I was their very first Sushi customer!!! YAY!!!! A couple of people made it in for Chinese before I did, but at least I have a small claim to their future fame ;) For being so newly opened they were a little disorganized, but they had literally JUST opened! I decided to give a few old standby's a try. I ordered the General Tso's Chicken lunch special with the crab rangoons and wonton soup. It wasn't a sickly sweet sauce like you expect from a lot of cheaper Chinese restaurants, but a lighter sauce that had a nice flavor. The rice was the best I have had in a long time. Simple, but without the ubiquitous frozen mixed vegetables that ruin so many basic fried rice dishes. The crab rangoon were delicious, a little sweet and perfectly cooked. For Maki rolls we tried the Philadelhia, the California and the Eel/avacado. Everything tasted so very fresh! The eel was sliced a little thicker than I prefer, but it was still quality. The Philadelphia was what you would expect, if lacking a little of the smokey punch I prefer...but that's just me. The California roll....let me just say here that California Rolls should NEVER EVER EVER EVER have carrots in them!......NEVER!...and their's didnt'! The final comment would be about the hot and sour soup. I've never had one that compares to Amherst Chinese Food, so I don't know why I insist on bothering to try it anywhere else. AS was expected, this did not compare. The seaweed flavor was all to present, and that's just not my thing. If I want to taste ocean, I'll go drink sea water. So in conclusion, give them a shot if you're in the area. They beat the other three Chinese food places in Palmer by more than a couple of points. The three times I ordered they got the orders wrong, (wrong order, missing items, cold food etc.) one time the order took almost 2 hours, once I received it they sent me cold beef without rice or the other sides and offered store credit. When I stated I wanted to simply get my lunch (no attitude or rudeness) the delivery person handed me the order with an attitude. I like to get some of the same combination dishes and they always have the same taste and portions. The dinner combos are good for two small meals ( I like to get take out and the containers are sturdy- not the lunch ones as much). The veggies have a really nice flavor. I have not tried anything from here that I don't like. At work we had ordered half of the menu the other day and everyone loved it. Tonight I tried the combination S9- four seasons- it had shrimp, chicken, beef and pork with veggies. They all tasted cooked and a good overall flavor that complimented each other nicely. This wasn't the best sushi I've ever had, but it wasn't the worst, either. The Queen Roll was very good and I'll probably get that again, but the Philadelphia Maki was awful. I substituted the cucumbers with avocado, which was good. The salmon, however, was chewy and several of the rolls had hard pieces that I had to spit out because they literally were not edible pieces of salmon. Overall, the service was great. They were nice on the phone and very pleasant about taking my order. It was ready in just 15 minutes for pick up. It was a bit more expensive than other sushi restaurants I've been to. I will eat here again because it is the closest place to get sushi, but I've definitely had better. In fact, if you love sushi as much as me, try Ichiban in South Hadley (my absolute favorite sushi place) or Blue Water in Ludlow. It's worth the drive. My second sushi trip here I got my food delivered. I live right down the street and it took an hour. I got the Queen Roll again and it was just as good. This restaurant has been a favorite at my workplace for quite a while. Until last Friday. I ordered the Chicken with Garlic Sauce luncheon special. Usually I have to wait a few minutes to pick up my meal. Not last Friday. A woman came out of the kitchen and shoved a bag in my face before I even paid. The meal was spilling all over my boss' order and the chicken was not shaped the way it usually is. It was not in normal pieces but long thin unnatural looking strips. Like thick noodles. I ate half of the meal and within a half an hour I had stomach distress. I didn't eat the other half of the meal until Sunday (it was refrigerated). More stomach distress.
