First time trying this restaurant and overall the meal was just ok. I picked up the order which was ready within a half hour on a Saturday night. The house special Mei fun was phenomenal, but the rice and the general's chicken were meh and the egg roll was flavorless, salty and mushy. I'd go back because it's close and relatively low priced. We ordered a few dinners and while there was a mountain of rice (so under cooked it was actually crunchy but flavorless) there was the tiniest amount of entree that I've ever seen for Chinese takeout. The meals were prepared well but they didn't taste good. I know every restaurant has a different take on spices/flavorings but this was just bad! I'll start with the sushi, and appetizers were all great. I would give a 4 star for food but a 2 1/2 for service. My wife's kung pao chicken was good, but it was not spicy, and she asked for extra spicy, and the Eggroll was bland. The service was extremely slow for it not being very busy over 10 minutes to get water and my drink order wasn't put in with servers just standing around. I would definitely sit at the bar next time. My wife's meal came out 10 minutes before my food so a little work on time management so we could eat together. Staff was friendly just disorganized. In a word...weird. If you have come to know and love typical Americanized Szechuan Food, what is typically referred to as "Chinese Food" Then Feng Ye might not be so much for you. Of course everyplace is different to a degree, as with all genres of food, you will get different, better, or worse from two places on the same street. In the "Chinese Food" arena, this tends to lean one way or another simply in terms of quality of ingredients, preparation, and personal preference. However, I'm talking about the common favorites here, Pork Fried Rice, Lo Mien, Spare Ribs, Teriyaki, Egg Rolls, Chicken Fingers, Fried Shrimp, Crab Rangoon, Dumplings, etc. Basically the common dishes on EVERY menu that has a sign out front with Golden, Palace, or Feng in the name. They are all based around these dishes, adding a bit of individual flare perhaps, but I think we can all agree...there's a really good fried rice, a not so good fried rice, and an undercooked crunch greasy fried rice with chunks of pork fat in it. Feng Ye is trying to be different, seemingly for the sake of being different, regardless of actual taste. Pretty much everything here is...different. Most I've had better from a cheap little kitchen in a strip mall with two booths that are always empty because everyone just does take out or delivery. If you get my meaning. There's something about the tender, slightly greasy, satisfying crunch, and moist batter of a classic chicken finger...Feng Ye does not have. The atmosphere at Feng Ye is actually quite nice if you are dining in, but the food...not to be repetitive...is weird and what is good, has been inconsistant in the three chances I've given this place. Three strikes...they're out. It's almost entirely not what most people will expect. Example: The lobster sauce is bizarre and in my rather experienced opinion (I love good old fashioned slightly greasy Americanized Chinese food), well, gross. It's not the savory delicious brown sauce with a ton of lobster bits in it I've come to love. It's a sort of a clear overtly gelatinous goo-paste with a few bits of overcooked chewy lobster in it. There's other items on the menu like this, that will leave some people saying, "Wait, what's this stuff? I thought we ordered lobster sauce." If the flavor was spot on, it would matter less, but it isn't, there's odd aftertastes, odd textures, just...odd. To the point I'm asking myself, "Have these folks tasted their own food? Because this is not anything like what I was expecting...and not good. Or do they just think they can push this stuff on the dumb locals in western MA that have limited options and don't know any better?" Because it sorta seems like the latter. Lastly, I found the service to be cold...just from picking up take out. Like I was third class or low caste to the people dining in. They'll get to me whenever...I'm less important. And when they do (finally) they are rude, no thank you, no welcome, just here's your take out order low caste person, get out of here. Don't bother coming back if you find the food odd. We don't care about you. In fact, you...are untouchable in our elitist world. Goodbye. read more

The food I very good but can be inconsistent. The owners daughter is the only person who can make a drink and does the sushi as well. We had been here several times in 4 weeks.. We always get hot n sour soup and dumplings. The soup and dumplings it is one of the best around. New years eve the food was meh... Inconsistsnt. Tonight we had food and drinks. Food was good but I am not a sweet drinker so I ordered less grenadine in a drink. After watching her pour delicious mai tais I ordered one and mine was so sweet with fruit juice it was not drinkable. I told the waitress who told the owners daughter who never came over to see us us or ask how to remedy the problem and I therefor I asked them to remove it from our check. They did but still noone came over to speak to us about the drink. I think if I'm concerned about something I ordered being insufficient or not satisfactory they should be responsive and come over and remedy the issue. We paid and left disgruntled. Noone goes out to eat to be disgruntled. They unfortunately have a 3 star review they are earning from inconsistent food and drinks and who does not come and see why a customer is raising a concern ! We went just after they moved from elm street to franklin street, food was pretty good, went several times. Then we got a not so good meal and skipped going for month. We went on 12/24/24 I ordered the #12 which is the pepper steak with peppers and onions. We could not chew the meat, worst I have ever seen. We spoke to the server and explained our concerns. She went back to the kitchen and when she returned explained that it not uncommon for it to be like that (I explained to her I have not ever had that meal elsewhere this Bad) . Keep in mind neither one of us could chew the meat and took it and placed it on an empty plate. We returned the meal COMPLETE WITHOUT BEING ABLE TO EAT ANY OF IT. No one from the kitchen came over to us at any time. I would recommend NOT EATING IN THIS PLACE. Customer service from the server was good. Customer service from the owners was the worst. Ordered takeout from Feng Ye. We ordered quite a few things. I've been really looking for a place that has some great Crab Rangoon's and this one has one of the best. Perfect proportions, smooth and creamy filling, and a nice crisp and crunchy texture. They have a good selection of special rolls and we ended up trying a few of those too. The best one was definitely the Centipede Roll. It has double shrimp tempura, avocado, cucumber & eel and topped with crab meat, mixed tobiko & chef special sauce. Super tasty! The other notable one was the MA Roll. It has double shrimp tempura, spicy tuna, cucumber rolled w. soybean wrapper with crab meat and chef special sauce topping. My only complaint, which is incredibly minor is that the rolls came apart pretty easily. I'm sure it was jiggles loose in transit and would be better to eat in house but as I said, pretty minor. I was greeted on the phone as I was telling the guy that I have a severe shellfish allergy and he was very kind to help with suggestions for what to order that didn't have oyster sauce in the ingredients. I ordered Chicken Wings, Chicken Fried Rice, Beef with Veggies, Cucumber and Avocado Dragon Sushi Roll and Egg Rolls. All tasty and delicious! Last week they forgot half our order and this week delivery took 1.5 hours. Not very good.

I placed a take-out order for a pu pu platter for three,($54 dollar order). I asked for duck sauce,the owner said there was 3 with the order. Upon getting home I found there was 3 tiny 1 ounce cups of duck sauce (unacceptable to say the least). Every chinese restaurant I've gone to in the past always gave two ounce cups of duck sauce for an order of this size. So I went back to Feng Ye to ask for more duck sauce. The owner told me I would have to pay for extra duck sauce and that what he originally gave me was what they give out for that size order. (I know they get the industrial size bottles for restaurants, cheaping out.) When you eat in a chinese restaurant, do they charge extra for more duck sauce,ketch-up,salt etc.? No !!!. They bought the Si Yuan restaurant. They have not changed the awning or the decor, but the food is dramatically different and in the best way possible. The food is delicious, they have sushi and other Japanese foods as well as the classic Chinese favorites, plus, they deliver. I have ordered more than once. Ordered delivery tonight as we didn't feel like going out. I got the crab Rangoon dinner with beef. Fiancé got the generals chicken with beef sticks. Both dinners came with pork fried rice and egg rolls. We also got an order of chicken fingers as well. Everything was good. Spring roll was a little too much wrap and not enough filling, and I wish there were more than 2 rangoons. Over all, great rice, not greasy at all. Beef sticks are also tender as hell.
