The entrance to the restaurant should have two doors and a larger social distance check in space because the host station gets crowded. We showed up today with 4 adults and 5 kids, no wait, and the friendliest service I've ever experienced. This may be the best breakfast spot we have ever been to. Great menu, all the breakfast items you want, but not overwhelming. The corned beef hash is homemade and probably the best I've ever had. However, the crunchy French toast is where it's at! I have eaten here many times before and always order the same thing. Their biscuits with gravy. Very rich and filling and a can't miss meal. The serving staff is also always pleasant and professional. However, on 12/18/19, I decided to try buttermilk pancakes. What a nasty, tasteless and soggy mess. The entire center was mushy and undercooked. Almost like they soaked bread in water and tried to grill it. After a partial bite I mentioned it to the server who took it back and brought a freshie with the same disgusting, soggy and somewhat slimy results. I am not sure what buttermilk batter they are using but maybe they need to rethink the recipe. Also the server brought the check with the full cost of pancakes on it. She lacked the initiative to consider taking part of the cost off of the pancakes and was obviously happy to have a lousy customer experience feather in her cap. I think she knew I was upset because at the end she never asked how was everything. So only said "Should I clear the table for you". So for any visitors to Max's table; unless you are missing your teeth and tastebuds and want to gum or swallow your buttermilk pancakes without chewing then go for it. If you are looking for a superior pancake experience then head elsewhere. read more

Every experience had at Max's table has been memorable. I decided 4 stars was safe because everything from the menu selection to the service was incredible. The only reason I didn't give an immediate 5 stars was the space, or lack thereof. It tends to crowd on Sundays (post-church I'd imagine), and so I don't even consider going, but will fill up pretty fast even on weekdays, and the waits are considerably long. Highly recommend! My husband and I were so sleep deprived with an infant that we decided to order takeout and get it delivered which we never do. After about an hour our order still hadn't arrived. I called the restaurant and was told Door Dash hadn't even picked the food up yet and it was still sitting there. After getting the run around from Door Dash I called the restaurant back to just cancel the order because we knew the food was going to be cold by the time it got to us. At that point the Door Dasher has just picked it up. The manager was very apologetic and offered a refund or said she could remake it and we could come get it. I told her we would prefer the refund because we did delivery because we were both so exhausted we didn't want to drive. After hearing that, the manager said she was going to recook the food and BRING IT TO US HERSELF. Like what?! No one does that. Sometimes a business comes along that does things so right, you can't help but thank them, cheer them on and help spread the word so that others may enjoy a special experience too. From a unique menu, not too big but still hard to choose from among the delicacies, to breakfast served all the time, to excellent, friendly service, Max's Table has it all. The owner, Angela is a welcoming hostess, while the other owner, her husband is keeping the kitchen running smooth, which judging by the large crowd is no easy feat. I love the grits and orzo pasta salad and everything else I've tried. Here's how cool their menu is......I have yet to try their burger, and I love burgers more than most anything! I'm almost afraid to try it, in case it doesn't blow my mind like I expect it to. Can Max make a better burger than Geckos? I'll find out soon enough. Just to ensure you don't think this is a kiss a$$ review, the coffee could be stronger and better (but they do have whole milk), and the outdoor tables are a little uncomfortable with where to put your legs & feet. Had a great meal at Max's today. Our waiter Mike was pleasant and always kept my water glass full. The Gyros was delicious. Side salad was very fresh and crisp. My wife's waffle was the best I've had in Sarasota. Light, fluffy, sweet and delicious. The nutella pancake is huge, more a dessert than breakfast. The bacon is thick and perfectly cooked. They need to offer a more quality coffee. My wife had pancakes. She ordered them very light, but they came too done for her. What a wonderful find!!! My friend Janet had suggested this place for our monthly lunch, and even though it took me 40 minutes to get here, I found it was well worth it!!! Niva was our delightful (and very pretty) young waitress, who took great care to see to our needs. My first question was IF they could do a burger "my way" meaning cannibal style and when I was told that yes they could, I ordered the SHROOMS AND SWISS, was first disappointed when it came out overcooked, but Niva to the rescue and within no time at all I had the "perfect - almost raw" burger. Great tasting fries too. Comes on a large bun with lettuce, tomato, pickle and of course the Swiss Cheese and plenty of Mushrooms. Yum...so good!!! My cheese grits were the best I've ever had in a restaurant and the sausage gravy on my feather-light biscuit was EPIC and based on really good sausage.
