This was part of a mini strip mall with twenty or so tables. The menu had lots of breakfast and lunch options to choose from. The service was friendly while the food came in a timely manner. I split Brianna's cookie butter French toast ($14.99) and the pecan chicken melt ($12.99). The French toast had three slices of Texas toast with sautéed strawberries, bananas, and cookie butter. This was great. The toast was cooked appropriately and there were plenty of fruit pieces that accompanied it. The combination of cookie butter and the fruit was an ideal combination. The chicken melt came with Applewood smoked bacon, tomato, and Swiss cheese on a fresh baked croissant. This was tasty. The croissant was light and fluffy while the chicken salad had big chunks of chicken. There were not too many pecans present, but not a big deal. This also came with a side of waffle fries that were good too. I also tried Bubba's skillet that came with grilled ham, sauteed onions, mushrooms, and cheddar cheese with eggs on a cheesy potato casserole. This was an all-around hearty and fulfilling dish too. A really good skillet For breakfast I had their Bubba's Skillet, made with ham, onions, mushrooms, and cheddar cheese atop their cheesy potato casserole, and topped with a couple of eggs. It was really good, so much cheese. I've posted two photos, one of the dish and one where I flipped back one of the eggs so you can see the golden delights beneath. It came with a not that small of a dish of fresh fruit, a colorful mixture of berries and melon. To me this was a first class breakfast. I particularly liked my server, smiling and attentive, getting every aspect of her job right. My food was ready and delivered in under 10 minutes. The openness and colorful décor of artwork made The Original Egg a welcoming place. While the restaurant was fairly busy with seating both inside and out, there was still plenty of parking available in the shared parking lot. This was a very good choice for me today. read more

I have been a customer for at least 10 years and todays experience was not good. Food was good as usual but customer service was bad. Upon entering at 11:15, the two of us were seated next to one of the only 4 other tables in the restaurant. Since the adjoining four some was extremely loud we asked to be seated elsewhere. I wanted to go all the way back to the far corner and was told that section was closed. By the time our food was ordered and served, another older couple came in and was seated right where I wanted to go! Then when it was time to leave and pay the bill, they added coffee to my check when it was only served to the person I was with. They gave me my money back but was the waitress really that rushed to make that mistake or is that done often? Just not a very pleasant visit at all. read more

And it's named this, because the Broken Egg concept went on to become a national franchise, called "Another Broken Egg". Which I refuse to go to, LOL.. So, if you want to avoid chain restaurants, and you don't like crowds and long waiting lines, go to this one, the Original Egg on Clark Road... And you'll be far from disappointed... I think, quite happy! This place is a breakfast and lunch set up, closes around 2:00, and not the kind of place you want to show up at 5 to 2:00. I'd like to give you a dissertation on the menu, I'm sure everything's good, but I cannot ever get past Bubba's Skillet... Potatoes, cheese, mushrooms, and eggs... Sounds simple but you will crave it once had, so be forewarned!! The surprising addition is a side fruit cup: usually this means the ketchup ramekin with cantaloupe and honeydew. This place always has fresh seasonal berries and watermelon also. Seriously? I would put this easily in the top five breakfast joints of Sarasota, and Top Two in making poached eggs, if that's your thing. High quality, and absolutely consistent every time I've been here. Service is also from adequate to excellent. They also have baked goods, the biscuits are fresh, and if you pay cash and have good timing, you may get a free cookie, too. We have had wonderful breakfasts at the Original Egg twice since we've been in Sarasota for vacation. The Blintzes were so fantastic-first time I've ever had them and I was not disappointed! The second time we went I had the breakfast burrito which was very tasty! My husband had the sausage gravy and biscuits both times we went and he loved it! Very generous portions! This is a pretty generic breakfast place with an indifferent owner and a basic menu. Cooks do not know the difference between an over-easy, sunny side-up and medium egg. Portions are good and skillets are really good. Corn-beef hash comes from a can and the grits are instant grits. Biscuits and gravy are good and the service is usually pretty attentive. Orange juice is outrageously expensive, but it is fresh and you can watch them make it. Bathrooms could use some attention every single time I go there. Overall, by Sarasota standards, this place is a keeper. Mostly fair prices and decent food. Nothing that will knock you over, but reliable. I think of it as a up-scale Waffle-house. Basically the same menu with fresher, locally sourced ingredients. I do like that the eggs and other dairy products are locally sourced. That's big plus compared to a Max's Table. You can taste the difference in the eggs. Staff is friendly. Vibe is very beachy and cool-Sarasota. Went there for four years before I found out on my own that they have a loyalty program. Server will never tell you what the specials are. You have to figure that out on your own. I mostly like this funky little breakfast joint. I keep going back, so that says something. read more

The three amigos as we call ourselves decide to go after Easter service at 360 to one of our favorite restaurants The Original Egg. Two of us decided we would split our meal and each of us had our own drinks. To our surprise after an excellent meal and service. Received our ticket and discovered there was a charge of $2 for an extra plate. Not only now is the owner of the establishment now trying to make their customers pay for their employees salaries. It has now come down to their customers paying all the other fees for what they feel is extra. By the way I started my career in food service. I made my living off of tips and a salary that was below minimum and had to report my salary to the government. Restaurant owners are allowed to pay their employees practically nothing while being able to receive numerous tax credits. My friend paid the bill and owner statement was their a small business and how my friend was wrong in God's eyes for saying something. And then tried to take money from the tip jar to make up for the $2 charged for the extra plate. My friend refused the money because it was going to cost the server not the owner. Have had decent breakfasts in the past, so we came for lunch today. Hubby got a BLT that was served with cold bacon. My Ruben did not come with well done fries as requested, they were pale and white. When I asked about it, they said that is how they come and offered to take them back and cook them more -- not to bring new ones. And, sadly my sandwich was fatty and soggy. Could not eat it. Too bad... I know they were busy, but that not is an excuse to serve a poor meal. After telling the server, they took a dollar off the bill (for real!). Decided to give this place a try for breakfast since it was near my house. I'd say the food was ok to pretty good, nothing special. The eggs Benedict was average, and the Hollandaise sauce was bland. For my side, I chose the potatoes with onions and peppers, and this was the same, very average with big chunks of vegetables. We also tried a side of corned beef hash, and were pretty disappointed on the size for $7, and the presentation was odd, with lettuce and tomato on top of it. Lastly, the best item by far was the chicken pesto club! The chicken was cooked perfectly, and the pesto sauce and sourdough bread were delicious too. I ordered waffle fries, but they sent regular strait fries instead, didn't ask if we wanted another side. They were burnt as well, so another miss on the side item. Overall, the food was average and on the blander side except for one item. I won't be back, but 3 stars for the food not being absolutely horrible. read more
