When I walked in I was greeted by a nice guy behind the counter, he was chatting with another couple but stopped to greet me and ask if I needed more time to review the menu. The place is small and personal, with pictures from different eras of time. There is enough room to eat inside either at the small tables or the bar top. I ordered the chili slaw dog with fries. It was delicious, the fries were the way I like them. The Chicago style hotdog. It was surprisingly good. I've never had a hotdog with pickles and tomatoes, it was really good and so were the fries. This place is authentically Chicago from da accent and da attitude to da Dipped Italian Beef. The sandwich was on par with what I usually have in Chicago every time I visit. Spicy delicious beef and so tasty - you have to try it! I loved all of the Chicago memorabilia all over the joint too. Service was quick and friendly and it got packed fast with hungry patrons. One of my favorite spots in all of Sarasota. My late grandfather used to bring me here and tell stories of how much it reminded him of home (former Chicagoian). The dogs are great, but the Italian Beef steels the show. I was told anything less than dipped was a crime, so that's how I always get it. Came to try the Chicago taste of home here in Sarasota! Glad we did. The husband is from Chicago so of course he wanted the beef sandwich. Was leary at first but he was satisfied and dipped in the au jus. The dude preparing the food was a stitch, definitely a Chicagoan. I tried my first Chicago hotdog with no onions. I was told do not EVEN put ketchup on a Chicago hotdog ok, I didn't. But guess what?! I loved that hotdog prepared Chicago style: on a bun with those black seeds speckled on it and the glowing green relish, mustard and peppers (no onions, please). I should've bought the two dog option, but wasn't sure I would like it. But I did, very much. The fries that came with it were hot and fresh! I'm actually craving that whole thing right now! Tony's son runs the place and asked if he either honor my gift card from Sarasota brewery which his father owned and had up for sale for over 5 years. I brought lots of my friends to the brewery to play trivia and almost all spent money eating before trivia. I had a $30 gift card when there was a fire in the kitchen???? And they closed. My wife and I have been in Sarasota for two years and we have driven by many times and two days ago we saw the doors open and stopped in. What a great place and the food was excellent. It was so good I tried to go back the next day "Sunday" but they were closed. The two people working there were very cool and had the type of personalities that make you want to come back too. Two thumbs up I stopped in today for lunch. I was prepared, having already looked over the menu online. I knew I wanted their 2 Dog Special, where you can pick any two they offer, and they come with fries. My choices were their Chicago Fire Dog and their Chili Cheese Dog. I had just lined up behind a couple of customers working through their order at the register when Tony asked me what I wanted, so he could get started on my order. I liked that. As the place got busier, I saw that was common act, father and son working in tandem filling orders and running the register. Two thumbs up for my food. The Vienna dogs weren't overly large or overly loaded, but were indeed good. Chicago proud. I got so in the moment I hesitated grabbing a squeeze bottle of ketchup for my fries. It is a small place, narrow, with a couple of tables and a lunch counter. Some customers got their food to go. Some customers were regulars, Tony and his son knowing their orders without being told.
