Swordfish

What a charming find in downtown Venice. The restaurant is pretty and spacious. I liked that it wasn't loud-our party of 6 could easily carry on conversation. My dinner was FABULOUS. I had the halibut with a creamy caper sauce. The halibut was cooked to perfection and the sauce was light and brightened up with tomatoes. I ate every bite. I also tried the swordfish-delicious! I would also recommend the calamari. Nice attentive service. Definitely will return.

In short: A Turkish restaurant that brings together Greek, middle eastern and Mediterranean cuisine. I was in the area for just a couple of hours and wanted to find a delicious lunch spot, Yelp never steers me wrong. I love Greek food but I am not well versed in Turkish food so I will preface with that. We started with the Greek Saganaki. This is prepared differently than traditional saganaki. They still use Halloumi cheese but it is breaded and pan fried. Normally this is fried at the table. It was good but I prefer the Greek style I am accustomed to. We also ordered their hummus with pita bread. The pita bread is not made there but it was good and tasted as if it was. The hummus is prepared differently with a lot of pistachios as a topping. It was a delicious take. The main star was the Iskender Kebab. It's Greek gyro meat with pita bread, chef's tomato with a yogurt and butter sauce, we got it over potatoes and it was DIVINE! Apparently this is the king of Turkish kebabs and I know why now... it was so flavorful and I plan on ordering it at every Turkish restaurant for comparison. Lastly, we ordered a baklava for dessert. The Turkish baklava version is heavy with pistachio as compared to Greek which has more walnuts. It was good but I prefer the Greek version. Service was friendly and fast. The restaurant and clean and has a classic Mediterranean look . I would come back if I was in the area.

We recently had lunch here. The servers were pleasant and attentive. The atmosphere was pretty decent for a small place, if I had to say anything, maybe they can update a few spots in the back going to bathroom etc, otherwise nice. The food came out At timely fashion. We had special yogurt dip for an appetizer and it was very nice, we had the gyro entree and it was really good, also had the filet pita and it was good not blow you away good but good. Overall it was a decent experience, we will try it again in the future to see what else they have to offer. Food 8.0 Atmosphere 7.75 Service 9.0

Front entrance of their restaurant.

Bodrum is a very special hidden treasure here in Venice. Their professional service, expertise in fresh food flavor and authenticity elevates them to the top of our small town for Mediterranean Turkish cuisine. Thank you.

Gyro Platter

By far the best meal I've had in a long time. We had Mixed Grill and Gyro platter, along with Pistachio Bomb as appetizer. The flavors all leap off the plate. Even the simple rice and salad garnishments were delicious. The lamb chops were absolutely amazing. Dennis was a great waiter and guide on our meal. Loved sitting outside on beautiful evening in February. So glad we found this gem and will be back.

They have great food. I love their gyro platter or gyro wrap. That is one of the best that I have had in the Sarasota area.

I ended up sitting there for 40 minutes before I left with our food. When they had me pay, I noticed they messed up the order and swapped the chicken entree for the gyro entree. So I had to wait for them to fix it. She apologized and gave us extra baklava to make up the difference in price, but after I got home and looked at the menu, I should have owed her more money rather than them giving me extra baklava. Other than the cluster of picking the food up, we thought it was all delicious. The portions seemed on the smaller size for a platter that supposedly can feed 2-3 people but with our extra entrees, it was the perfect amount for us. The hummus was great with the warm pita, the meat was all flavorful, and the baklava was a great way to end the meal. The "salad" that comes with the Sultan Feast isn't really a salad but just a few cut up veggies. Overall, I felt bad for the 2 ladies running the front alone because they were very busy and they kept apologizing for the wait times. The food was great though and we would definitely order it again.

Lunch today was a VERY pleasant surprise. I found Al Forno on Yelp, we were interested in finding…read morea good Shwarma sandwich place in the Sarasota area (we eat them a lot in NYC), but had, we'll say, "moderate" expectations. The storefront is nothing special at all, you order from a big tablet screen and then they have standard fast-casual seating. It doesn't look fancy at all and the restroom situation is weird (you have to go outside through a back alley for the men's restroom?). The workers were nice but I was only hoping for "solid" food. Then I took my first bite of the mixed-shwarma sandwich, and it was sublime. Perfectly cooked and well seasoned tender meat, they press the pita with just the right amount of salad/pickles, so the pita is crunchy and the meat isn't overwhelmed with too much salad like so often happens. Their house fries were spiced deliciously and fried fresh (which makes us want to try the Falafel, which we also saw them frying fresh). The food was *fantastic*, making it one of those diamond-in-the-rough places that you'd never guess had such good food. We're looking forward to going back and trying more on the menu, highly recommend if you're near UTC mall.

The food was solid, your typical Mediterranean cuisine but I will say it's a bit on the pricey side if you're just trying to grab a quick lunch. The tabbouleh parsley was chopped a bit larger than I personally prefer. I usually like it more finely chopped, but it was still fresh and enjoyable. Service was quick and the food came out fast, which I appreciated. There's limited seating inside, so it seems like it's set up more for takeout than dining in. Overall, a good spot. Just keep the pricing and seating in mind depending on what you're looking for.
