    Monte Carlo Sandwich

We sat outside for lunch on a beautiful spring day. The tables are comfortable and the area was decorated with potted plants. I decided to try the Monte Crisco Sandwich. It is a ham, turkey, and swiss cheese sandwich which is dipped in eggs and grilled. Basically it is a french toast sandwich. It was probably the most unique and flavorful sandwich I have ever had. It came with a light dusting of powdered sugar and jam on the side. My husband had the Abby's fish sandwich, which was well cooked, and topped with two large slices of tomato and lettuce and was a flaky fish. It was not heavily seasoned, requiring a little salt and pepper, and came with a side of snappy cole slaw with a hint of horse radish that really added to the meal. Topping it off was-a cold draft beer. The staff were friendly and efficient. Our server, Sherry, heard my husband ask for my napkin and she brought over a stack with a smile. Cold beer and a full bar rounded out the experience.

We had a kale salad and seafood scampi. Both were very good. The restaurant was very nice inside and in a really neat downtown area. The waiter was very friendly and helpful.

I headed down to Venice for breakfast at Abby's, my first visit. I discovered it is a large place, a little dark inside, with additional seating outside. It was shortly after they opened and thus far no one was dining outside, so I decided to eat inside as well. I can easily imagine outside being popular as they get busier. We didn't get off to the best of starts, my server brought me coffee and a menu when I sat down and said he would be right back, but then did many other things before finally returning. I had already checked out the menu online so I knew what I wanted, and just waited on him. I decided to try their creamed chipped beef and opted to have it on home fries. For me, chipped beef is a nostalgic dish from my childhood. The food arrived at my table in under 5 minutes, making up for the slower start. Back on track, I dove in. The dish wasn't very salty, which I suppose is good. I grew up eating very salty SOS and thought this was bland, but I also realize this would be better appreciated by the general population. Instead of the shingle I got mine on home fries, coarsely chopped skin on potatoes, which were ok. After a good meal and a coffee refill I was off, glad that I gave them a try.

After the storm I was looking for a local spot that was open to take my son for lunch.... We found this place and it was one of few open on the island. We had a nice lunch with courteous staff. The food was fresh and out quickly after ordering. The server, Randy was super sweet and my kiddo loved her. For a business on the island the prices were actually very reasonable. We will definitely be back.

Abby's is a great location in Venice, just off of the main downtown street so that you are in easy walking distance of the shops, bakeries and other restaurants. We chose here because it seemed to have much more reasonable prices than nearby, while still having seafood. The experience was a little odd, I'll be honest. The service was spotty but it felt like our table had been singled out for it. The table behind us came after and was served everything much quicker and more enthusiastically. Did we smell funny? It was after a beach day.... Overall the food was probably slightly above average. I actually thought the popcorn shrimp were really great, though the appetizer only comes with 5 of them and I wanted more, haha. I got a salad for my main dish (yes I did do that), and it came with chicken, strawberries, goat cheese and this amazing tropical/ mango sauce that was also used for the popcorn shrimp. That sauce was literally one of the best that I've tried. It made my entire salad transformed and complimented the shrimp perfectly. Everyone in my group agreed that sauce was phenomenal and we used it on everything because it just tasted that much better. I wish I could know the secret to their tropical sauce because that will keep me up at night. This is a good place if you'd like to sit outside with minimal noise and simple food. Don't expect a stellar experience but it's definitely decent.

Very disappointed in this place. I came here for breakfast one chilly morning and brought my small service dog. The manager said they don't allow dogs so I informed him that my dog is a service animal but we will sit on the patio outside where there were no customers. He rudely told me again they don't allow dogs but to pick a table and someone will be out. My dog is very calm and sleeps on my lap during meal times and the manager forced our very kind waiter to come out and tell me my dog can't be in my lap & has to be on the ground. By law, registered service animals can be in their owners lap and can also be inside the restaurant. The manager was very rude, discriminatory, and made it an uncomfortable and unpleasant experience for my friend and I. Would not recommend for anyone who has special needs.

Our Juliet's Group (Joyfully United Ladies Indulging Every Tastebud Socially), held our April Luncheon at Abby's. It was easy to set up as I called them in March to schedule our lunch and we agreed that I would call Monday for an anticipated head count. The restaurant had connected three tables so that our group could be all together. Abby's menu was perfect for our group. There was everything from soup, salads, caprese salads and ahi tuna. Hamburgers, pasta and sandwiches are also available. Service was great. Our server was friendly, efficient and did not appear stressed at all from having such a large group (17) assigned to her. Orders were delivered correctly. They also serve libations. Abby's on Miami gets two thumbs up for food and service. Thank you!

The restaurant has that eclectic feel to it as does the staff (that is a positive). Waitresses were friendly. Menu looked good with breakfast and lunch being available. Note the times that the restaurant is open. Closed on Tuesday's Wednesday's and Thursday. Hours are from 8 am to 2 pm the other days. So don't make an unnecessary trip. Husband and wife who are the owners and also The lead cooks. Breakfast menu looked good, but wife and I decided to do lunch. I got the cod sandwich and she got the grilled cheese. Plates come with either slaw or pasta salad. Fries are extra and the chef does a little something different, he mixes regular French fries with sweet potato fries so you may get a few surprises if you are not used to that combination. Cod sandwich was not breaded which is a bit different for me. No tartar sauce with the sandwich but rather a remoulade sauce a bit more tart and tangy. Side was slaw which was tangy. Both the entrees were decent, but way more expensive for lunch than we would expect for a grilled cheese and a cod sandwich with a side of fries over $50.00. Worth a visit, but be aware you are going to pay for it.
