Corn Beef Hash & 2 Eggs
    Art C.

Still a very good breakfast With time and an appetite, I decided to drive down to Venice for breakfast at the Shamrock Café. This neighborhood café has been serving up food for over a decade. While I think of it as a local breakfast spot, it is much more than that, with dinners including two French Nights, Friday Fish Day, and Saturday's Prime Rib Night. The menu for French Night varies but always includes Chicken Normandie and Beef Bourguignon. My breakfast today was Corn Beef Hash & 2 Eggs, basically the same meal I had in my last review years ago. This time I wasn't quite as impressed with the corned beef but still fine. The serving size was again small. Now that I realize there is a French influence it kind of fits. I thought the price was very reasonable for what I got.

Just average, the TV over the bar is on Fox TV the whole time and loud enough you can't ignore. Went to have an enjoyable lunch with friends but won't ever return. I don't understand owners that think everyone should listen to their politics!!!!

Eat breakfast here almost every day. Great food and wonderful wait staff. Super omelette. Coffee is great and cheaper than other places. Open Tuesday through Saturday Five star.

Good food, smallish portions but priced accordingly. Attentive staff, friendly. Not a large place. Likely will go back :)

Old fashion cafe with good food and down to earth wait staff that treat you like family. Off the beaten path a bit but you will enjoy.

Food was delicious to celebrate St Patrick's Day. Limited menu & very busy. But it was a great choice.

The restaurant has that eclectic feel to it as does the staff (that is a positive). Waitresses were friendly. Menu looked good with breakfast and lunch being available. Note the times that the restaurant is open. Closed on Tuesday's Wednesday's and Thursday. Hours are from 8 am to 2 pm the other days. So don't make an unnecessary trip. Husband and wife who are the owners and also The lead cooks. Breakfast menu looked good, but wife and I decided to do lunch. I got the cod sandwich and she got the grilled cheese. Plates come with either slaw or pasta salad. Fries are extra and the chef does a little something different, he mixes regular French fries with sweet potato fries so you may get a few surprises if you are not used to that combination. Cod sandwich was not breaded which is a bit different for me. No tartar sauce with the sandwich but rather a remoulade sauce a bit more tart and tangy. Side was slaw which was tangy. Both the entrees were decent, but way more expensive for lunch than we would expect for a grilled cheese and a cod sandwich with a side of fries over $50.00. Worth a visit, but be aware you are going to pay for it.

My husband and I both ordered the corned beef hash. I ordered a waffle, and he had pancakes, along with coffee. To start, the coffee was okay, just a little watered down, but acceptable. We then had to wait a good 30 minutes for our food, and once it arrived, we were completely disappointed. The corned beef hash was pretty much inedible. The taste was seriously off, it tasted like old onions, and aside from a crust on top, it was complete mush. We are both corned beef hash fans and have had many plates of it, and this was not how corned beef should be served. Both of our eggs and bread options were fine. My husband's pancakes were undercooked, with what he kept calling "crunchy things" inside them. My waffle was on the same level as one you'd get at a hotel using a waffle maker at a free breakfast buffet. By the end of the meal, my coffee looked so watered down that we were calling it lake water. Now to the restaurant and servers: the restaurant was very hot, so much so that the door was propped open. The server said the AC had just gone out, however, based on how the servers were dressed (shorts and sleeveless tops), it seemed like this was the normal atmosphere for them. While all of the servers were nice to us, one of them was abrasive and somewhat rude to other customers. When someone waiting for a table asked if he could order drinks, she said, "No. If I let you order drinks, I'll have a coffee shop outside." Needless to say, they got in their car and left. Lastly, we didn't complain about anything, paid our $50.00 bill, and left a $10.00 tip, so $60.00 total for a breakfast that probably should have cost about $30.00, which was crazy. I wouldn't recommend this restaurant to anyone and would caution people to go elsewhere if asked.
