Came here to try the 24 shrimp platter. This place is always crowded because they have great food at reasonable prices. They have bar and table seating. They have a lot of different kinds of beer and some house wines. The two shrimp platters were delicious. Six pieces of shrimp cooked four different ways. I bought the shrimp and house chips and the chips were to over done and the grease they cooked the shrimp in needed to be changed. You can taste the grease and they were greasy left a bar tat in my mouth I didn't eat them. read more

Want a wonderful hidden gem in Venice Florida, it's right off the US 41 bypass. It's a small little place in a strip mall, but boy does it have personality. The Service there is fantastic. She was a young, perky, friendly, little gal with a big smile. when we first came in, there was only one other couple. It wasn't long until the whole place filled up. that little gal took care of everybody, quickly, efficiently with a big smile. Everyone's food looked delicious and it was very reasonably priced. The wife and I split the chicken wing special which was $.70 a wing for 10 huge wings. We had old bay dry rub with a side of the Nashville hot dipping sauce. the french fries were piping, hot, crispy, and delicious. The chicken wings were big, juicy, plump and very tasty. In fact they were so big, we could only eat six and brought four home. I will definitely be going back. I forgot to say everything's home made in house. It's all fresh. read more

Went Saturday for first time. Had the crag legs! They were delicious. I told her they were the best I had had.

Stopped in for breakfast and boy was I surprised! The place is limited in size, but it's clean and organized. The staff was very friendly and attentive. I had a special, two eggs, country fried steak with sausage gravy on top, hashbrowns, toast and coffee. It came out quick and everything was perfect and delicious! I highly recommend this place to everyone. read more

Not all great reviews are about 5-star, fine-dining restaurants. Dugout Cafe is just a clean, family-owned, diner-style cafe. But everything about it was great. The server, was young, enthusiastic and gave everyone a big smile. The prices -- across the board -- are amazing. I had Salisbury Steak in brown gravy and onions -- tasty, not too salty. It came with two sides. I chose cole slaw -- good -- and collard greens -- simply the best I have ever tasted. The total for my meal was $11.99. I took notice of the fact that they offered wings (not breaded) with a choice of 8 sauces -- an order of 10 for $9.95. Will have to return to try breakfast and some of the many, different offerings on their menu. This place is a breath of fresh air in today's inflated market. Excellent homemade-like food! excellent service and great relaxing small family owned and run restaurant Not a fancy place but it just feels right...small dining area with a young girl taking the order and Dad coming from the kitchen to serve it...their liver and onions was perfect (like I had 25 years ago in Houston TX) and the chicken fried chicken was also delicious (per my picky wife) Prices actually are really too LOW considering any and all other restaurants in the area. Went to the Dugout Cafe' tonight. Second time for $10 Thursday fried chicken. Excellent chicken, red mashed potatoes and collard greens... what a feast. And waitstaff Cameron is very attentive and wonderful. Saw a taco salad and the shell was homemade there and looked amazing . Will definitely be back to try the taco salad. Stopped in for lunch we had a grilled chicken sandwich and a patty Melt both very delicious and the people at the next table to us told us that the fried chicken was the best they ever had. Really wanted to like this place and support a local business. We went for their BBQ special last weekend and the food was good for the price. Portions were decent considering. The few things that were not great and will probably prevent us from returning were #1 they serve bottled beer, but who ever was throwing the bottles away was throwing them in the trash hard against other bottles making a loud noise every time. Happened at least 10 times and every time it made my wife jump. That's cool for a bar with loud music and patrons but not a small 10 table "family" restaurant. #2 was we noticed owners/employees were a lot friendlier with other tables than with us. I'm sure they were friends but we were treated like a business transaction. I've noticed this at a few other locally owned businesses. #3 We found a bread tie in the coleslaw. I noticed it before eating and set it in the middle of the table to see if anyone noticed but I had to bring it up at the end and show them. I wish them success but it's a no for me. read more
