Scallops had breading that was too thick and were tasteless. Some of the clams had black liquid oozing from them so we're not eaten. Disgusting. After receiving complaints the server offered our entire 6 person tablet ONE dessert for all to scare as recompense. The staff was uncaring. Grabbed three napkins as we walked by to clean up my 2 year old. Grabbed 2 more for the sticky hands and I guess 5 napkins were too much because the owner came out and told us those napkins are for paying customers only. The service at this restaurant is always excellent and friendly. They have inside and outside seating . This has always been my place for lobster rolls , up until this season . I tried one in October and it wasn't very good . I tried again the other night . The lobster was chewy . At one point I took a bite and the piece of lobster came out of the sandwich rather than in my mouth. I couldn't bite through it . The lobster rolls used to be a mix of claw meat and tail meat . They were delicious and tender and sweet . The last two were anything but . They have an extensive menu and their food is generally good . They have beer and wine . My friend, her mom, and I had breakfast at Burgundy Square Cafe one weekday morning and were treated to a very pleasant dining experience! We were greeted right away and seated alongside the window facing the avenue. Our waitress was very prompt and friendly, brought out drinks and menus immediately, and took our orders as soon as we were ready. Two of our party got variations of the NJ breakfast and I had the two, two, two with some cheese on top of my scrambled eggs. The food came out quick and we all agreed that the portion sizes were huge for the very reasonable prices. The food was comparable to a diner breakfast; comforting and hot. I thought the cafe was very nicely decorated with some Halloween touches for the season. The bathroom was a one-person facility, clean, plenty of room for someone in a wheelchair, and stocked with paper towels and soap. I'd definitely come here again for another meal. My friend and I came here while in Venice for vacation. We came at around 5 pm and it was pretty empty. The waitress was nice and friendly. The restaurant is very casual and chill. My friend and I both got the lobster roll. I got mine hot with butter and she got hers cold with mayonnaise. Both were very good and had a lot of lobster on them. To end we got a slice of carrot cake. This carrot cake is massive and could be shared between 4 people. It was so good and I would come back to get another piece. My friend and I popped into Burgundy Square Café for a quick bite during the craft fair in Venice this weekend. I'd actually been before--once for breakfast after the sunrise Easter service on the beach--and it's just such a sweet, family-run place with reliably good food. Fun fact: they're apparently famous for their lobster! They even placed in the World Lobster Championship held in Maine (yes, that's a real thing--and quite an achievement!). Word on the street is that Wednesdays are Lobster Day, with all kinds of delicious specials. Needless to say, we're already plotting our return... Finally stopped in for lunch and caught the last day of their burger Monday specials for the offseason. I got the black and blue burger and it was awesome. Never considered adding blackened shrimp to a higher but it was a winner. Bang for the buck you can't go wrong with this special during the offseason. On the positive sides, we seated quickly outside, which I think was nicer than inside. The lighting inside was so harsh, it felt like I was in the hospital or something. Everyone seemed to talk up the Lobster Roll, so I figured I had to try it too. In my personal experience, Lobster Rolls are one of those hit or miss items. Either it's really good, or it's not. Maybe it depends on what your looking for. My favorite lobster rolls use a toasted bun, slathered with sauce, and a large amount of lobster with some kind of special slaw and sauce. I didn't get that here. There was a very generous portion of lobster for sure, but it was bland and on a untoasted bun. If the bun was toasted, or had any sauce on it.. well then I must have missed it. Luckily, the bread soaked up the sides of clarified butter I poured over it. The bread+butter tasted good, probably the best part. Maybe some people like it, but its not for me. read more

Worst lobster rolls I've ever had. Had lobster rolls all over the place, mainly on the East Coast. These happen to be the dryest, chewiest lobster rolls we've ever had. 3 of ur ordered them. Waters and club sodas were nasty too, couldn't even drink them. read more

They were known for their lobster roll. The service was friendly while the food came out quickly. I went with the fish and chips ($16). I had it with a house salad, no complaints there. The fish used was a haddock and it was in their own special batter. There were 4 regular sized pieces of the haddock and it was very good. I went to order some New England, whole bellied fried clams and was disappointed. The portion was tiny and the clams were sub par. Not very good onion rings, and the slaw was in what was pretty much mayonnaise. The fries were hot. They were steak fries. Maybe the sweet potato fries were good. Whenever I have the opportunity to eat fried clams, I go for it. Burgundy Square go their chance and I won't eat their clams again. There is a good menu so I would guess they have other offerings that are better. The service was good. Ambiance was nothing special. My wife, my son and my three grandsons and I attended this restaurant tonight and I myself had a wrap with shrimp was called an Asian wrap and it was terrific. My wife had a Caesar salad. She loved it. One of my grandsons had a burger. He said it was great. Another grandson had the lobster soup and my son had a lobster roll. Everybody loved their food. Very casual popular place. The entry to the restaurant has a bunch of outside seating with large tables great for large groups of people. Came in just for the lobster roll and onion rings. Good food, but based on experience I would pass on the lobster roll. Lobster roll was good, but over 50% of our meat was the tip of the claws and all the rest was claw. It was right when lunch opened, so maybe not mixed well during prep? Make sure to get their fresh brewed ice tea! Nice outdoor seating, but older building meant not great parking and subpar bathrooms. Brunch looked great, excited to come back and try something other than the lobster roll. read more

My wife and I went here after doing some shopping in Venice for some lunch. We were pleasantly surprised. This was a great place for lunch our server Katlyn she did a wonderful job and was very helpful. I ordered the spinach salad with shrimp and bacon with warm bacon dressing . Delicious. Eh. Food = eh. Service = eh. Ambiance = definite Eh-Eh (insert angry Grandma finger waggle here). New neighbor suggested this place and made the reservation, so I didn't want to be difficult and just rolled with her choice. Now that I've read the reviews, I don't know if I would have just rolled along as I did. One reviewer said it was like "being in a hospital" in terms of the overly bright lighting. I concur. However, that's where the hospital similarity ends, unless we're talking a Gray's Anatomy episode of chaos with 87,000 emergencies and people talking all at once. The "din" inside or out made talking with dinner companions a competitive sport. Oh and the table was sticky. Tacky, even. Bring extra wipes to do a good cleaning. Three times we had to hunt down a server to ask for a beverage re-fill, missing side dish, and something else. I'm not sure if they were particularly short-staffed the night we ate, but every employee was busting his/her booty and working 2-3 different jobs, it seemed. It stressed me out just waiting and watching for the Hostess negotiate with the wait-staff about tables and such. I had the salmon stir fry. Now here's where the 3 stars come: it was a beautiful piece of fish; fresh, lightly flaky, and a perfectly moist. But it was thunked atop a very small bed of tepid rice and "veggie" soup of soy and (?) ginger. Dinner companions had the Lobster Roll and came up with an emphatic review of "okay." Stopped there for breakfast. A few concerns - unhappy, inattentive waitress - they don't have half and half for coffee. They have only cheap artificial small containers that not getting spoiled I get the sun for years. For $3.50 per cup I expect to have real half and half. If you serve breakfast GOOD COFFEE is a must. - hygiene concerns- one on the waitresses pet someone's dog in the face , wiped saliva on her pants and proceeded to take an order from other table. Very disappointing dinner at Bergundy Square Cafe. Our group was unhappy with everything we ordered. The special of the night was prime rib. The quality of the meat was terrible and to boot they overcooked it despite our asking for medium rare. The lobster bisque seemed to have no lobster in it - it was mostly cream and it tasted like perhaps a lobster sneezed on it. The salmon was very ordinary and the broiled seafood platter had some bland fish, a small tasteless lobster tail and some rubbery scallops. Since all 4 of my party felt the same way about their dishes, I can't understand how anyone can post a positive review on this site....oh and let's not forget the water is not filtered and tastes horrible...and they don't sell bottled water. Let me begin with saying I have come here for breakfast only. Twice. Both times the food was okay and the service was good. I just don't like it when my breakfast potatoes are greasy, burnt and tasteless, which has happened both times. The taylor ham sandwich is delicious and generous to the point of sloppy.
