Nothing much has changed since our last visit although they do add a 20% tip onto your bill,which is fine with me. My wife loves their turkey sandwich with their loaded potato soup. I always order their Parisian with the French onion soup. The Parisian is a crepe filled with chicken aka King. Service is always terrific and they do have outside seating. They also serve wine,beer and cocktails. No reservations but usually this isn't a problem. The outside fills up fast. They also have a wide range of desserts. read more

A friend and I stopped here for lunch today and we were very impressed. We got there at around midday and the place was packed and continued to be until we left at around 1.15 pm. The restaurant has a French theme to it, and the menu is French inspired (though not what I would call a true French restaurant) with a menu consisting of mostly soup, salad, and sandwiches. More French for an American palette. But the food was good. The French onion soup was excellent; the chicken salad was just that, a chicken salad. Service was good, decor was on the cheaper end (plastic flowers ... fresh cut would add a better ambiance). Definitely worth stopping by for lunch. read more

Ambiance is adorable. It's tranquil and artsy and definitely an enjoyable place to sit and have a meal with the girls. However, the wait staff in the morning were not the kindest and did not seem very knowledgeable about the menu and the one woman who served us acted almost as if she got high right before she came in. I was an server at Le Petit for about 9 months and I just want to give my input about the restaurant: Debbie works extremely hard in the kitchen to make sure all of her food stays consistent and is very close to the original recipes from when the restaurant opened in the '70s. She has been working for Le Petit for 20+ years and is truly the backbone of the establishment. That being said, no, the recipes are not the EXACT same as they were in the '70s but the changes have truly been minimal. The one complaint I have about Le Petit is the lack of understanding about the service fee: On every bill, there is a 20% service fee included. Does this replace the tip? In my opinion, that's up to your discretion. Servers at Le Petit Jardin Cafe make $15/hr. So, the 20% that is included in your bill goes to paying the servers' hourly wage. I don't know why this was so hard for customers to understand. It is a very new and very European-style concept. But, as a tiny mom-and-pop restaurant with usually 2 servers working every day, there is no room to make a living wage off of only tips- especially when most people do not tip 20% of their check. Servers making $15/hr and not relying on tips ensures that they're at least making a semi-livable wage (maybe not in this economy but you know what I mean.) There were days when we would only get 10 tables in a day meaning each server would get around 5 tables. If we were not paid $15/hr we would have probably went home with around $20 per day which is absurd. So the 20% service fee just makes sense. If you want to leave extra cash as a tip, the servers do GREATLY appreciate it. All of the tips go into a shared jar and are split evenly between the servers and kitchen staff for the day (the owner takes no tip money.) I wish that this was able to be explained better by the owner and the servers because that was the #1 complaint I got from customers while serving. Overall, this was a really great place to work and I absolutely love that there are regular customers I got to know that have been coming to Le Petit since they opened. read more

They only serve breakfast until 11: am and NO WHERE does it advertise that breakfast is only until 11:AM. Place is empty only two other people seated. We are seated at 11:04 given menus and asked if we would like something to drink. We both ask for coffee and water. Server returns with drinks and offers specials that are all lunch. We ask for breakfast and are told that ended at 11 am. WHAT? No where on their website does it say this. I ask why don't they say that. Not on Yelp either. She refers me to Google. Second visit, first during COVID. Outside tables are nicely spaced, lots of room. A new change is that the side alley has more tables and no smoking...that was a bummer from last time. I had the Marie Antoinette- thinly sliced turkey, Swiss cheese and a champagne mustard, delicious. It cam on a warm bun, with a side of potato salad. Just the right size. Staff was great, we called ahead and were able to reserve a table outside. Definitely worth the drive from downtown. read more

We had lunch there today. The atmosphere was very pleasant and our waitress was excellent. There were plenty of choices on the menu. Our lunches were excellent! The 20% service fee was confusing since at the bottom of the menu it said tips are not necessary. When paying for our bill, our waitress mentioned that they do not receive money from the service fee. Wife and I agreed that the 'most French' of this place is the name and interior artwork. Service was excellent: expected as there were no other diners. Alice is clearly comfortable running the shop. Food review mixed. "French" toast was made with square supermarket bread rather than anything Frenchy. Sausage patty small but tasty, fake maple syrup super-sweet. My veggie Crepe with cheese was fresh and a good portion (petite) yet any hollandaise sauce drizzle was indiscernable. Coffee was a rich dark roast and the highlight of the meal. Could care less about quality of service. Disorganized with their reservations and false accommodations for dietary restrictions. When bringing up concerns with management, they didn't take any ownership, blamed staffing shortages, and did nothing to make it right. Take your money elsewhere. read more

This has to be my favorite place for lunch! Food is fresh, well prepared and so so French bistro. Had lunch there again Feb 18. My sister had Mandarin Salad which was beautiful and delicious. I can't seem to move on from their daily quiche and French onion soup. Yesterday's offering was 4 cheese and tomato. It was exceptionally fluffy and delicious. A friendly and welcoming environment. Was sad to learn that their baker retired and as a result their Friday and Saturday afternoon tea has been scaled back with next one scheduled for late March. Have been here many, many times with family. It is close to where my mother in law lives so for convenience we go here. Have never had a problem and they are always willing to try to give us a good meal experience. The only thing that I would like to see improved is an expansion of the menu. They have many French style items but no potato products like fries or mashed. There are limited items for someone who likes simple meat and potatoes...but then this is a French style restaurant. Today, however, the prices had increased which is to be expected and service was slow even though there weren't very many diners. When we received the bill, there was 6% service charge added. We questioned it and were told it went toward helping pay the staff. I still left a tip but not near as much as I normally would for good service. The wait staff checking them out said would you like to leave a tip? They said there was a 20% charge on their bill for tip. The staff person said the 20% charge went to the OWNER because management had to pay them higher minimum wage. This place is so yummy, and it has been a tradition of my mom and me to lunch here for years. It's definitely got a cafe/bistro flair, so if you're looking for a giant steak and baked potato this is not the place. But what they do, they do very, very well. Le Petit excels at delicate sandwiches, amazing homemade soups, and to-die-for banana cake. I don't even like banana bread, but this stuff is in a class of its own. Seriously, if your lunch doesn't come with banana cake, order a piece on the side. You will thank me. My old standby on the menu is the croissant basket, which I usually get with ham. The croissant is warm and flaky, but what sets the sandwich into a class of its own is the decadent "champagne mustard" sauce. It's some sort of mayo/mustard blend, and it transcends the sandwich into something heavenly to taste. The croissant basket includes fruit and a piece of the aforementioned banana cake. Their chicken salad is also yummy, as are their homemade dressings--try the dill for something different. The french onion soup is spectacular, but I actually enjoy the soups of the day more usually. They don't skimp on ingredients, and the soups come out hearty but not overloaded with butter or cream. Last time was a creamy potato soup with hunks of celery, carrots, and onion, and maybe a hint of cheese. So check it out--it's a fabulous spot to have lunch, especially with a girlfriend pre- or post-shopping, and although it may not be the most "manly" spot in the world, my husband recently admitted he loves the place too. The staff is great, too--Debbie always has a cool perspective on things and has a great "dry humor," and Jim, the owner, is very friendly and has done a wonderful job transitioning the restaurant from the island to the Galleria plaza further out Venice Avenue (I was afraid it may not make it in the new location, and am SO happy that it did! The crab in my petit crepe special (supposedly crab and shrimp) was NOT real crab, which I don't mind IF I know it in advance. It was small but tasty as well as the cup of soup (split pea with ham) My friend Janet loved the Mandarin Chicken salad, big portion and tasty.
