Ok. So we tried it again. I really want to like this place too! Got a Latte with Oatmilk and my partner got a cappuccino. It seemed like it took much longer than it should to get us our coffees. We were the only people waiting and there's 4 people behind the counter That being said we got our coffees. I specifically said I'd like a hot 'very hot' latte and cappuccino. Somewhat tongue in cheek but I said it nonetheless . My partner got the cappuccino and she said it was very hot. I got the Latte and it was between warm and warmer. The coffees were ok. Not very strong. Like I said I really want to like this place but I can't give it a great rating at least for coffee. Maybe the food and smoothies are good. read more

This place is very quaint. It is decorated with a calm vibe (plants, music and a mural on the wall. The food was delicious. We had the blueberry lemon cake. It was very moist and full of flavor. The chicken salad sandwich was very tasty. The bread was lightly toasted. It made us want to make some when we got home. I would recommend giving this place a try. read more

So far so good with two visits here! I have only had lattes and they were both very good...I will update my review once I've tried some food. They have a wonderful selection of gluten free options so I am eager to try those. The five stars are mostly for the friendly faces that work there. You don't always get that everywhere, so I really appreciate how kind they are and they even brought our beverages to our table for us. Will definitely be returning as a local. read more

Mission is a pure gem in the heart of Venice Florida. The cafe itself is cozy and bright, very welcoming. Service is always top-notch-- right down to the little things like reheating coffee before we leave. The menu is wonderful-- especially as a person who eats a vegan diet;. My second visit confirmed my suspicions from my first visit...I do not believe that the organic coffee is really organic. I have very strong reactions to non-organic coffee (and food in general) and am super picky about everything I consume because of it. I had a reaction on my first visit a year ago, and had a worse reaction from my second visit a couple weeks ago. The owner, who pestered us to leave a review while we were trying to read the menu, claimed he couldn't possibly use organic food for everything for some reason. The sign says it's an organic shop but I don't believe anything in there is organic. I know for a fact he does not use organic flour because I asked him. The menu itself looked like the food would be good tasting, so if that's what you care about then you'd probably like this place. The overall vibe I got is that they're pretending to be something they're not, and as someone who's chemically sensitive I do not appreciate that. read more

Love this place! I usually come here at this once a week for lunch and have either the chicken salad which is the best or the turkey sandwich. I had a bacon egg and cheese breakfast sandwich this morning which was delicious! Great way to start my day. Then decided to come back for lunch and have the cacao protein bowl. Came to get a smoothie from Mission as we walked around Venice to shop. It is a street over from the main shopping block. They had lots of gluten free and vegan bakery items that looked fresh and delicious. I ordered the PBJ & Chia smoothie, it was thick and healthy! It was a fabulous breakfast and we got a coffee to go. We arrived, me and my dog, a Golden Retriever who loves breakfast out, and we asked to be seated at the patio. The patio was full, there was a short wait, the restaurant was packed. However, we were seated in less then 10 minutes. Our server was fast and furious at the tables she waited. I was impressed with her speed and accuracy with the orders, she was very efficient, caring and cheerful. This is a place we would certainly return to again and we often refer others to visit. It is worth the trip.

Easily one of the best coffee spots in Downtown Venice. Mission Cafe & Coffee has such a great vibe -- warm, clean, and full of positive energy. One of the best places in venice! I love the atmosphere and all the amazing employees! All the employees are very honest and knowledgeable. They also have great brownies!!! They are too die for!! I've been there twice now and the first time I got the hang ten which was amazing and the second I decided to try a juice and it was very very delicious! I'll be back all the time! In addition to caffeinated beverages and bakery items, they have an impressive menu of sandwiches and lunch items. We kept things simple by ordering an iced cafe mocha, a dark roast coffee, and a chocolate croissant. You can tell they use high quality ingredients since the iced cafe mocha had chocolate flakes in them, but somehow managed to accent the beverage perfectly without making it too sweet. The chocolate croissant tasted absolutely delicious and had a wonderful chocolate filling inside unlike most traditional recipes...we both agreed it was great and tasty. The owner mentioned she gets her croissants from Europe and does the filling and final baking on premises to serve it hot. I'm not aware of any bakeries that go to all that trouble, but it makes for a high quality product. All in all, an excellent coffee and pastry experience at By The Bay Bistro...it's a place I hope to return to and would recommend to others visiting the Venice, Florida area.

While enjoying our coffee, we took a few bites of the donuts we had just purchased at the market. That's when an older woman approached us and rudely informed us that we were violating the health code and needed to put the donuts away. She proceeded to lecture us and wouldn't really allow us to respond. We finally said we would just leave, to which she replied, "Okay." The entire interaction was unnecessarily rude and completely unpleasant. For the record, if outside food is against the establishment's policy, that's one thing. But telling customers they are violating the Florida/Sarasota County health code is an entirely different claim. As far as I can determine, eating a donut purchased from another licensed establishment while sitting outside is not, in itself, a Florida or Sarasota County health-code violation. She repeatedly insisted that she would know because she had been a "chef" for many years and even said, "McDonald's wouldn't allow it." Well... I wasn't at McDonald's. And apparently ordering a coffee at a coffee shop and taking a few bites of a donut from the farmers market required a lesson in food-service law. The irony is that we have always been happy to support Lord-Higel's and Black & Gold. The baristas have always been a 10/10, and we've had good experiences there in the past. Unfortunately, one unnecessarily rude interaction can change that. There are plenty of great coffee shops in Venice where customers can enjoy a cup of coffee without being lectured over a donut. So, thank you, "Karen," for the lesson. You've officially saved me the trouble of deciding where to spend my coffee money next time.

It came in a very sturdy plastic cup that could be reused over and over again if you wanted. The staff was super friendly & the prices were quite reasonable. My drink was less than $7.
