Oh my goodness!! Food and coffee was amazing! Raspberry scone was to die for. Avocado toast was perfect.

Found this place very disappointing. From the dismissive waitress to the confusion about what flavors of scone were available, I found it uncomfortable. While we all found the scones to be exceptional, the trio salad plate left a lot to be desired with the chicken being extremely dry and not fresh. The tuna salad wasn't bad but was a bit overly sweet probably from pickles, while the egg salad was pretty good. The bread offered, which I didn't really understand the point of, never arrived. Sadly, with the plethora of competitors along the avenue, living on the quality of the scones seems like a weak play. read more

Upper crust is located along the main strip in Venice. Stopped in with wife and daughter fo lunch. I ordered soup and tuna sandwich which was plentiful and tasty the girls ordered wraps and a side of fried tomatoes no complaints. Staff pleasant, this is a no frills spot that serve a variety of coffees and breakfast till noon as well as luncheon items. Overall it's not a great spot but it's not a bad spot either. WOW, let's start and finish with that. ........before starting as well, the service here was some of the most fantastic, pleasant, perfect "zone defense" table ready service in my over 45 years of global travel!!! NATALIE was super awesome!!!! (more on this later) April 12, 2025 - 4 for brunch/12:45 pm day of the insane Shark Tooth Festival. There were like 20,000 people and a few hundred tents of vendors on this day?? Insane. Friends (one who is my classmate from PA in the 1970s!) who lived on a sailboat (57 ft Lagoon catamaran) in Venice harbor many years, have just returned after many 1,000s of miles and having tried quiche in about 15 countries and sailed from Boston to the Panama Canal, Puetro Rico and back firmly stated ------ THIS is where they wanted to go on their 2 days here? THIS is the best quiche place they have been anywhere!!! Crazy? Well its turns out NO!!!!!! Three (3) of us got the ham and cheese(s) quiche with a side salad and I got the vegetable quiche w/salad. This was a STUNNINGLY tasty and perfectly cooked quiche at proper temperature and fantastic ingredients and cheeses!!! Crust? Magnificent.... toss your carb, dairy, oil, flour, gluten, sugar paranoia and EAT THAT THING!!! SOOOO good! The salad was "made" fresh and the dressing perfect. The fresh greens and vegetable would have made this a fine entree or free standing dish!!! The two together - PERFECT. We had begun our order with a request for 4 scones, BUT BUT BUT by ~ 1 pm they had sold SIX HUNDRED SCONES that day?????????? So we were denied. Because I am basically a whiner, nag and a pest, I kept joking with Natalie our server, that my vegetable quiche sure would have been awesome IF I ONLY HAD A SCONE OF MY OWN!!!! (hear small violin in the background) I was relentless and joking......... but something magically happened? A take out /pick up had not taken place and the product freed up!!!!!! Natalie swept in like Cat Woman and snapped up that scone and dashed to our table!!!!! A bit of homemade whipped cream and that hot cranberry/orange scone - WOW oh boy scrumptious, we four split that little treasure and REALLY enjoyed it!!!! We took what they had and we were NOT disappointed!! Did I emphasize what fantastic service with here BY ALL the wait staff as about 4 people brought food, handled the bottomless water glasses, the food delivery...and the whole place was fully covered and satisfied!!!! That Natalie was a great sport and put up with me!!!! Hats Off and Bravo! Must go here!! and we will absolutely be going back for what we are told are the two KILLER to die for scones!!!!!!! Upper Crust is in downtown Venice, and has been in business for the past 26 years!! The outside signage is a bit small, and next door to a couple closed storefronts. We mistakenly thought that Upper Crust was no longer in business, but luckily it's still there! It's charming local Venice gem - this is not an upscale hipster scene - and that's what's great about it! My husband and I recently came to Upper Crust Cafe & Bakery on a recommendation for their scones. We came for breakfast, and I was craving something more savory than sweet. I had the crab benedict, which was good and reasonably priced. I only took away 1 star because they have country potatoes versus hashbrowns on their breakfast menu. That's a weird metric I have for breakfast places, and shredded potato hashbrowns are a must for me for any breakfast venue. I did order a blueberry and chocolate chip scones to go with clotted cream to have later. The blueberry being my favorite of the two, and the clotted cream was very nice. Creamy, with a slight hint of sweetness. I had an unsweetened breve, which was also good. We have family in Venice that we visit annually, so I will be sure to come back and visit Upper Crust, and try more of their bakery offerings!! read more

I typically don't write negative reviews, but saying that... My wife, a friend and I went into the Upper Crust Cafe & Bakery for some treats and coffee. We noticed that the seating was for dine in only and I requested, at the front, if we could sit down for a bit to enjoy the pastries and coffee and the waitress stated that would be ok. The cafe was not filled as 3-4 tables were empty, so figured this would not be a big deal. While we waited for the food, I stepped away to the bathroom. In the short time in the bathroom, they were asked to leave multiple times, before even receiving the final item we had ordered. They stated what I listed above and were told that doesn't matter they had to leave. When I asked what happened the waitress I spoke to stated it didn't happen while the other waitress looked at my then slinked away with that obvious oh shit look on her face. The utter rudeness of this waitress will cause me to give all my future business to other cafes in the future and recommend the staff receive some customer service training. read more

Coming from LA to Venice, I don't have very high expectations for restaurants in Venice. As the options for good food in Venice is very limited in my opinion. My mom is kind of health freak and doesn't often like to eat out because of this, but when she recommended we pick up some pastries from the bakery. I knew this place must be legit, but I was still skeptical nevertheless. In hindsight, I should have ordered the pastries from the today in the air conditioning as the weather is very hot as you know. It's not so comfortable sitting outside with a small child. My mother wanted to sit outside so we did. The World Famous Scones are legit and they are the perfect texture for a scone as they are soft and moist, but hard at the same time. Sometime when you order a scone they are tough and dry. Not these they were very fresh. We ordered the blueberry scones. The cashier asked if we'd like to try some Devonshire Cream. Who am I to say no?! We each try a spoonful of that succulent cream and it was heavenly. I recommend that you order the Cream with your scone. It's a game changer. Scones are very good on their own, but even better with the cream. We also ordered the Crumb Cake and the Lemon Bars and they also very delicious. I highly recommend if you come into this bakery if you come to Venice. Order anything from the bakery and you won't be disappointed. read more

Tasty strawberry crepes with delicious Devonshire cream! Mmm.... Hubby had pancakes & sausage patties topped with an egg. Pancakes were good & sausage had a nice flavor. The waitresses were chipper & really hustled! Hubby only got his coffee warmed up once. I just got water & should have gotten a bottle of it. Place is bright & clean. We have been customers of Upper Crust for years. On February 1, 2026 we stopped for breakfast after Church. We were very disappointed with the service!! Everyone who came in after us was served before us. Chris, our waiter, had no interest in our concern. We waited for 30 to 40 minutes to be served. Our order of poached eggs arrived hard boiled. Crustless quiche in either vegetable and cheese or ham and cheese. Also they have amazing coffee drinks and scones with cream. Yum! What a treat. Small place on Venice Ave with great food and baked goods. We had the coconut cake a few days ago as a carry out item and loved it. Today we both had the banana bread French toast. It was great. Not too sweet and very filling especially with the included meat. Looks like they have a lot of regular diners. What a cute place... very comfortable with a French country charm. Greeted promptly and friendly when we arrived. We came to dine in and service was fabulous from Natalie. Three large Pancakes, so it was enough for both of us - my hubs & I. They let us add bananas AND blueberries - they ration the amount, but it's still good. You get a sprinkle of each fruit. And had a couple drink specials that included 2 Peach Belini for $9. I liked it - totally worth it and even though the Loaded Bloody Mary was a mix, not bad for the price! The Cafe is small - newly renovated within past 5-6 months with plenty of tables in a cute spot, so it's intimate. Can't believe I've lived here 10 years and never knew about this gem! Greeted from the moment we walked in and promptly seated, our server was great and attentive. We came in close to noon so breakfast orders were about to be cut off and thankfully she let us know that as it was our first time in. We got our orders in, a veggie omelette, Texas toast and strawberry crepes with tea for two. Be prepared, the crepes come with a lot of cream! The order came fast and everything was very delicious. The tea came in this adorable teapot! The place is very cute and has a French feel to it with rustic decor. Atmosphere is very friendly, upbeat and light.
