This was like a smaller version of a typical NJ diner. There seemed to be regulars who were present. The one feature that stood out at was all of the clown memorabilia from figurines to pictures. The service was friendly and the food came out quickly. I went with one of their daily breakfast specials that consisted of 2 eggs, 2 bacon slices, 2 sausage links or patties, with potatoes and toast ($6.25). I opted for poached eggs and sausage links. My wife had bacon and eggs, cooked the way she asked and served with 4-5 pieces of bacon. She enjoyed her meal. I went with liver and onions along with fries. I received a particularly friendly greeting and as soon as I settled in had coffee. I thought very highly of the service, the staff seemed to enjoy working with each other and interacting with their customers. My coffee was topped off several times by anyone passing by with a pot. I ordered their Kielbasa Omelette, which came with a large pile of potatoes and toast. The omelette was fine, pieces of Kielbasa adding flavor, and it included cheese. There were more potatoes than I needed. Patches exemplifies the circus history of Venice by its name and clown décor. It is not overwhelming but provides a nice festive feel. This is one of my dad's favorite places to go. It's actually been 4 months since he has been here, due to covid. On the staff here are very friendly and attentive to service. Walked in today because it was recommended by a few friends. My husband, who is very kind, said a friendly hello and greeted the hostess happily. We have a service dog and she was in a stroller we use for her because her paws are sensitive to the asphalt The hostess scowled at us and said ... "what's this?" I explained what I said above and she proceeded to explain how service dogs sit under the table and made sure we felt very uncomfortable. Again, I explained she was a service dog and we were told that "this" was highly unusual and then rolled her eyes at me. She kept making faces to make sure we understood her disapproval. My husband said, we're not welcome, let's go. As I walked out and took a picture to remember the restaurant she came out yelling at me. Saying she was going to find us a seat etc. Then she said .. "fine. Go ahead and leave." I don't think people understand that for whatever reason, when you make a Paton feel unwelcome, there's no recovering from it. We will never return. We enjoy Patches Restaurant for its friendly family style breakfast. Carlene will always welcome you with a smile. It's not a fancy place but a comfortable place. I did mention to them that they needed to decorate and better advertise the outside of the building. We have so many visitors to our area here in Venice and when they see the dark windows they may drive on by thinking the place is not open. I read the history and although it is not named for being part of the circus (Clowns) it can be updated to be a Circus theme. I will continue to go to Patches and I hope you will give it a try too! When we first arrived my whole group felt as if we were a bother, the servers seemed frazzled by our 9 persons group due to covid seating issues. Aside from the creepy clowns EVERYWHERE, Patches is a delight. The service is efficient and friendly and the food, while not over-the-top-amazing, is good. We were there on a Monday morning and were the youngest people by about 50 years, other than the young kid eating with his grandpa. But considering it was a work/school day, it was pretty busy! There is a decent selection of healthy options (including Egg Beaters or egg whites), but plenty of not-so-healthy options as well (biscuits, Belgian waffles, etc.). My sis & I both opted for omelets with Egg Beaters, toast and home fries (good call on my sis for ordering hers well-done!). The omelets were HUGE, but we both devoured everything. The toast came with butter slathered all over it, which is tasty, but I would have preferred it without the butter. The home fries were well-seasoned and plentiful. Our husbands both got the Belgian waffles and there was not a crumb left on either plate. Overall - you get a large amount of decent food. Is it the most glamorous place in the most charming location?
