Definitely an older crowd at this restaurant! Came with my young family for breakfast while on vacation. The patrons were very friendly, but the food was awful. I got the omelet... it was crunchy because there were egg shells mixed in. I only took a few bites and my husband tried it assuming I was being dramatic and he also found egg shells. I figured toast would be a safe option so I didn't starve... but I kept finding paint brush hairs on it. Very disappointed and hope this review saves some hungry heart ache! read more

Great menu - lots of choices - fresh food, delivered fast and hot to your table. VERY INEXPENSIVE, easy on the budget. Everyone there is exceeding friendly - the owner always greets me by my name. Very welcoming. Best pancakes in Sarasota County. Bar none. Best tuna melt in Sarasota. Guess you know our favorites, now! The Greek food is a nice change of pace, when we feel like something different.. My husband loves that he can have breakfast for lunch - and with huge portions, he never walks away hungry. I bring business customers and family there all the time, because it's homey and comfortable and there are plenty of options on the menu - something for everyone. FYI Tony Orlando was in town recently, and ate there TWICE. I guess he knows a good thing when he sees it! read more

The waitresses are great and are very nice, and the food is good. The manager however, is rude and ignorant. I don't remember her name, but i do remember reading "manager" on her name tag. Being a manager and having the attitude of thinking you're superior to your customers is not acceptable. read more

First time at Patches in Venice. Breakfast was terrible, bacon wasn't cooked and the male waiter was absolutely rude along with the other waitresses. Being such a small restaurant, it was quite crowded and not sure whether it would pass the fire code. read more

Old style diner with a friendly staff serving old standard style food. Once you get past the clown decor (at least, the staff doesn't have to wear the clown costumes any longer like they once did LOL), you can admire the hand painted seasonal windows. The breakfasts are huge if you order the hash browns with eggs & meat. I usually substitute a fruit cup or tomatoes for the fries. No arguments when I ask which is nice. The staff really hustles here & delivers with a smile. It 's a fast food place without a drive-in, but much tastier. Lunches are tasty too. Very reasonably priced. read more

DO NOT EAT HERE!!! This restaraunt is HORRIBLE!! We walked in the door and we read the sign that said "wait to be seated", so we waited. Then we were told to go to the other side of the restaraunt near the register so we would be seen and seated from there. We did. Then we were talking while we were waiting and I guess someone told us to follow them (we didn't hear them). Then they got our attention and we apologized that we didn't hear him, he then said "I told you to follow me 4 times but you were on your phone!" Now jump ahead to our meal.....1 order of French toast and bacon for me and 1 Greek Omelet, potatoes and toast for my husband......The Greek Omelet was NASTY!! He took 2 bites and couldn't finish it. (Which he ALWAYS finishes his food. He never wastes food!). We told the waitress and her response was, "I don't know what would be wrong with it, we sell a lot of them". She did offer something else, but we said no. We asked if we could be charged for just the potatoes, she said yes but we would have to tell the manager at the register. We asked if she could infom the manager, she then brought us our bill and said the manager took off part of the bill. (FYI....the Omelet meal was $10, she took off $4.50......Which would make the potatoes and toast $5.50). So I went to pay the bill and the manager and the waitress were talking about our problem...The manager was aggregated. I didn't say anything, but I grabbed a menu to see how much a side of potatoes and toast were, only to find out that the total cost is $4.50, but I got flustered and didn't argue with the manger about that because she was quick to ask me if there was a problem. I told her I was the one with the nasty Omelet and I just wanted to see how much the sides were. She hatefully apologized for the Omelet. I told her it was ok and she said "no it's not ok". And I was told again that they sell a lot of them. OBVIOUSLY this one was NASTY!! Needless to say I refrained from telling her that "it's ok because we will NEVER go back AND we will be telling everyone to not go there!!!!" read more

Great fried potatoes! Toast could use an upgrade but the coffee is good! Friendly service. Probably have eaten here 150 times in the last 15-20 years. Don't go on Sunday unless you're prepared to wait. Love love love the corned beef hash! And the southwest scramble is delish! read more

Went for breakfas/lunch last Sunday at Patches. This place was packed with locals. Friendly attentive staff took care of us right away though the place was busy. Even other passing servers checked on us for coffee refills as they were breezing by...a good team effort that I always admire. Got the western omelette which was made perfectly (tender and moist inside). The home fries are great...pan fried and had onions in them...wow my favorite... I'll be back just for them! Wife had a BLT that she said was good and had plenty of bacon. Her chicken noodle soup was also homemade style and had big cubes of chicken in a flavorful broth. Good service, good food and reasonable prices...we will be back again! read more

Went to Patches for the first time yesterday (Sunday) for breakfast. Very crowded around 10:30am, but got seated fairly quickly (just 2 of us). Food came out in a timely manner, not bad. However we ordered a coffee and a raspberry iced tea. Got unsweetened iced tea instead and neither of us got a refill in the 40 min we were there. We never saw our waitress Trudy again... Also wanted ketchup and hot sauce for our home fries. Never got either. Apparently you must be 80+ years old to even be considered talked to. It was funny watching tables of 6 get seated after us, (all of whom just came from the nursing home) receive their food/condiments/refills before us and even their bill before us. As we all know the elderly leave a 10% tip at most (usually in change) where as we still left 30% for such terrible service. They should pay MORE attention to they're customers under 30 years of age if they want continued business and 3 times the tip. Shouldn't have to ask for our bill repeatedly. Won't return. read more

Mehhh. Ended up there by mistake this morning (Sunday). The place was full of cackling women and the noise level was through the roof. We should have left right then. But no, we are such gluttons for punishment...Our waitress really did not have a clue. We ordered coffee and I sent mine back straightaway because it was sooo bad. Then we ordered our food. And then we waited. And waited. And waited. Others came in and were seated, ordered their food and received it loooong before ours came. I wanted to just walk out because I was getting nothing but negative vibes from the place. Just as I hit my "last straw", our food arrived. The waitress just plunked it down and left. No water refill for me and no coffee refill for DH. The food was okay, but nothing special. I finally flagged down a different waitress and told her that I really needed some water and she did NOT seem happy about that. A few minutes later she came back and plunked down a warm glass of water on the table. The check arrived and the waitress had charged me for that coffee that I sent back. DH just wanted to get out of there so he paid for it anyway. NEVER AGAIN, Patches. Once burned is enough for us. Train your staff before you put them on the floor. And check out all of the wonderful coffees that are now available. Really. read more

Went to Patches for first time today. I ordered the half chicken and the first bite into the breast I found it cooked but ice cold. I informed the waitress who said she would tell the head cook. About 5 minutes later she returned with the same chicken breast that was put back in the deep fryer again. When I asked if it was their practice to put for that was in someone's mouth back into the fryer she looked at me as if to say , we aren't going to waste it. My wife had country fried steak and hash browns but couldn't eat after being told about the cooking practice at Patches. I know what my illnesses are and my spit being put into the fryer discussed us let alone knowing there might be other people's saliva in there too. We could not tell you what the food tasted like, we informed the waitress about health code violations, refused to pay and walked out. Being RNS we went home and notified Sarasota County health inspection and made a complaint . People may be happy with the dining area but it's the kitchen practice you should worry about. read more
