Spot on!! Completely like I was back home in Chicago! Beef was great, my only question is if it is a Turano roll because I ordered it hot and wet, and I could not pick the sandwich up as it broke in my hands. Fast, friendly service with great prices and yummy food. My friend and I ordered the double hot dog combo (1 chicago dog; 1 chicago fire dog) which comes with fresh cut fries for $10.99. We also ordered an IBC root beer and got a frosty glass to pour it into for $2.99. There is indoor seating as well as outdoor seating in front of the restaurant with a bar. The bar is where you order when you are going to dine outside. We sat outside along with several other people when we visited around 1:30pm. Our food was brought to our table about 5 minutes after we ordered. The hot dogs were steamed and nestled inside a poppy seed bun topped with mustard, relish, a crunchy pickle spear & hot peppers; the fire dog also had giardinera. All the flavors went together really well and complimented the hot dog. Typically I am not a hot dog person, but my friend said they were great and I did enjoy it. The fresh cut fries were also good, not the best ones I've ever had, but great for the price. I found a few to be a bit grease saturated, so I just skipped over eating those particular ones... I'm visiting for a few months from Chicago and we were homesick for good Italian beef and a chicago dog. We were looking forward to trying it since the server told us the owner was from Lincoln park. I think he's been gone from Chicago too long because neither tasted like REAL Chicago beef or a Chicago Dog. The beef was lighter in color and tasted more like a beef/pork blend. It also was bland tasting no spices or garlic flavor like REAL Chicago beef. The dog was too skinny and bland tasting although they did get the poppyseed bun and topping right -bright green relish , tomato, peppers and a dill pickle with celery salt. Everytime I pass this place its full so I had to stop and check it out. The restaurant has more than ample parking and both inside and outdoor seating with a tiki hut bar atmosphere outside. Even though it was in the middle of hot summer day there was plenty of shade so outside was the choice. Grabbed a beer and a couple of Chicago dogs. One regular and the other fire. Both came on a poppyseed bun and with all the fixins which included yellow mustard, dark green relish, chopped raw onion, pickle spear, sport peppers. The Fire was the same as the Original but included giardinera which is mostly spicy peppers. Inhaling is possibly the best adjective to use here. They were so good and I couldn't put them down. There is something to be said about not adding ketchup to a dog. The pickle spear just added that perfect crunch in every bite. And that Fire was just the right about of heat. Nothing a frosty beer couldn't help. Oh and the fries were fresh cut fries. Atmosphere is very laid back. Seemed like also a regular hangout for locals which is a great sign. Bartender/server was friendly and the food came out super quick. The minute I finished I already knew I was coming back. This was a cool looking spot with an outdoor bar with plenty of tables outside too. There were a few tables inside, but ordering had to be done outside when I attended. The menu had mostly Chicago traditional sandwiches. The service was friendly and the food came out very quickly. I went with the Italian beef sandwich ($7.99) and an order of large fries ($3.79). I opted for the "dipped" option where the whole sandwich was dipped in gravy. The beef was served on French bread with hot peppers. Sweet peppers could also have been chosen. This sandwich was very good. I thought the gravy soaked bread would be too wet, but that was not the case at all. It did not fall apart one bit. The beef was tender and tasty while the hot peppers really enhanced the overall sandwich. The fries were crispy and seasoned nicely, no complaints. Will I go back? Definitely. read more

Make sure you go to the location in Sarasota. They know what they are doing up there. I tried this one because they are so faithful in Sarasota and I've never let me down but the day before Labor Day the southside location was terrible. Soggy thin pickle on my Chicago dog and the fries and chili were just horrible. Sarasota has nice crunchy pickles on their Chicago dog. Also, I tried the brat and it was terrible. One of the first places we tried when coming to Venice and it remains a favorite. Love everyhing: the hot Chicago beef sandwich, the Chicago dog, and the Knuckle Sandwich, to name a few. Fast and fresh, very tasty. You can eat outside (our preference) or inside on a hot day. Try not to sit near the smoking area if cigarette smoking bothers you.
