Turkey Reuben so good with side of Macaroni salad. Great lunch!

Continues to be one of my south county dining spots for fresh breakfast or lunch at an extremely reasonable price. The service is consistent and the owner presences and welcoming nature always adds a touch of feeling like you are part of the family. The omelettes options are great, so if you don't see it on this huge menu, ask, the chef is very nice and will add that avocado to the omelet. The coffee is hot and servers are sure to pass by an refill your cup. I have been here for both meal options, inside and outside dining is excellent and parking is ample. Supporting a local couple who know what they are doing, makes coming to Max's Cafe an easy decision.

Crab bisque - soup of the day.

Finally found an authentic, delicious Cuban sandwich in the Sarasota area! As other yelpers have mentioned, the location/building for this cafe is a bit sketchy, but don't let that keep you from going in. Just know their posted hours are somewhat limited: 10:30 am - 3:00 pm Monday through Friday. On our first visit here, we observed what appeared to be a large catering order being prepared by several employees in their kitchen and being carried out to a car for delivery. We also observed several folks showing up at the order window to pick up their to-go orders. There was one person having lunch onsite in their dining area located in the back. We ordered two sandwiches, the pressed Cuban & the egg salad with lettuce and tomato, as well as a salad (don't recall the name, but refer to the pic). For sides, we opted for the homemade tri-color rotini salad and homemade macaroni salad. All was wrapped/taped well for carryout which I always appreciate! The sandwiches were soooo good, we returned the very next day for another pressed Cuban. We also tried the crab bisque which was a soup of the day and quite delish! If we lived in the Sarasota area, we'd definitely join the community of 'regulars' who frequent this cafe for weekday lunch!

Very good sandwich The people seemed very nice and my Pressed Italian sandwich was very good, the place not so much. It was my first visit and I too have been reluctant to make the trip. I shouldn't have waited. It looked like they do a good business, almost all of the 10 tables in the dining room were occupied and others were picking up takeout. You order at the counter and they bring the food to you. I got the 12 inch sandwich, a small container of potato salad as my side, and a small drink, all for just under $10. I sat in the dining room, an orange and red look that was not bright. I overheard another customer that was reporting problems with the restrooms. The building sits out by itself and looks old, and is old. But, my sandwich was good and this is probably a welcomed place for regulars that live or work close by.

Delicious! I keep trying to eat more healthy and their salad really hit the spot! I would definitely come back here again, since I work near downtown. The only reason why I didn't give it five stars is because the sitting area needs A renovation. I probably will just come to the takeout window in the future. One thing that impressed me was when I ask people waiting for their food what's good in here several said everything. (You don't usually hear that)

Apple Walnut Salad. Also has chicken, dried cherries, strawberries, and feta cheese over fresh greens with house made vinaigrette.

Maximillian's has become my favorite lunch spot downtown. Usually I find a place I like and I order the same thing over and over -- I have not been able to do that at Maximillian's. Every single thing I've ordered has been incredible! The pressed sandwiches really are cooked to perfection just like the menu says. The salads are hefty, filling, and fresh. If they have the sausage lentil soup the day you're there try it. I don't know how they do what they do but I'm so happy they do!

Everything's fresh and presented well. NO money has been frittered away on location, storefront, or dining area. Essentially, this red brick building with a sand parking lot straddling residential and industrial neighborhoods, looks like a social services office that Tallahassee forgot. You enter a single, speak easy sort of door, and immediately order at a window that looks on the bustling kitchen. You will see everybody smiling. There is a good reason for this. Slide down the hallway, turn right and wait for your order to be brought to the table. It comes before you can select a retro table and pull up a chair. I had crab chowder. Spiced, thick, and golden. Delicious. Now I am joining all the smiley people in this place. Then I opened the take out carton holding my chicken almond raspberry salad. It is named that because..well, you get the picture. You don't have to guess because it has the name of a movie star or a politician. Straight to the point, and also delicious.

The moment you enter, you are embraced by a cascade of twinkling fairy lights that shimmer like stardust against a twilight sky. Fresh flowers bloom in every corner, their sweet fragrance mingling with the comforting aroma of steeping tea and freshly baked cakes. The menu is a delightful symphony of flavors, with each dish crafted as if by fairy hands. The tea sandwiches are dainty yet satisfying, their ingredients so fresh they seem to have been gathered from a mystical garden just moments before. The salads are vibrant and bursting with life, each leaf and garnish adding to the overall tapestry of flavors. And, of course, the cakes! The cakes are tiny works of art, each bite a burst of sweetness that leaves you floating on clouds of pure bliss. Even the soups, served in charming little teacups, are more than just a meal--they are comfort and warmth, a gentle embrace on a slow afternoon. Each spoonful is like a chapter in a story you never want to end. In this enchanting restaurant, you don't just dine--you dream. To say that the owner of this enchanting establishment is just as magical as the place she's created would be an understatement. Kathryn is the heart and soul of this fairy-tale haven, a living embodiment of the kindness and beauty that fills every corner of her restaurant. Her presence is like a gentle breeze, warm and soothing, making everyone who walks through the door feel instantly at home. Her generosity is evident not just in the thoughtful touches that make each visit special--like the fresh flowers that greet you at every table or the extra care taken to ensure each dish is perfect--but in the way she treats each guest like an old friend. There's a sweetness in her smile that makes you feel as though you've known her for years, and a gentle warmth in her words that wraps around you like a comforting blanket. She moves with a quiet grace, always attentive, yet never intrusive. Whether she's offering a kind word, making sure your tea is just right, or sharing a delightful story, she does so with a lightness that leaves you feeling cherished and cared for. It's clear that this restaurant is more than just a business to her--it's a labor of love, a place where she pours her heart into every detail. In a world that often feels rushed and impersonal, the owner's presence is a reminder of the beauty of kindness and the power of a generous spirit. She has created not just a restaurant, but a sanctuary--a place where time slows down, and you can savor not just the food, but the warmth of human connection. To dine here is to be touched by her sweetness, and to leave with your heart a little fuller, your day a little brighter. Thank you, Kathryn, for creating such a beautiful safe haven for all who enter. As long as this establishment is standing, I will be there in attendance.

Walking by the…read morebuilding you are greeted by a gorgeous mural of a cat just giving you a small taste of what's inside. I really loved the theming inside the Cafe, pink is one of my favorite colors and I felt like they used the cafe space pretty well. They offer a variety of baked goods including different flavors of baklava and spinach pie. The menu also includes some fun drinks including coffee, tea and cocktails along with sorbet and gelato! We ended up trying their hot Mocha and the siamese mocktail which was ginger ale, mango, almond, vanilla and agave. We also treated ourselves to a piece of the chocolate baklava which was phenomenal, definitely give that treat a try it was a good balance of depth from the cocoa and sweetness (not pictured because we practically inhaled it). The coffee was really yummy, I did find the mocktail delicious but very sweet with my initial sips even after stirring (prior to letting the ice melt) being very syrupy (I wonder if there is a way to make it less sweet or to ask for maybe half pumps of syrups or to swap ginger ale for sparkling water), other than that the flavor combo was good just very sugary. We did purchase a day pass to play with cats which are held in a separate area visible from the cafe. I found the price of $20 for unlimited time during your stay to be pretty fair. The cats were all pretty sleepy during our visit and we anticipated a bit more cats to be present and about, (however this may be a good thing), despite this we were able to make a good time petting the cats in their perch and playing with them with the vast amount of toys available. The inside of the cat area was a bit sparse in terms of places to sit with the cats and comfy areas to lounge with them for play so that made staying an extended time a little uncomfy, we broke up our time by playing with the cats, enjoying the cafe and then playing with the cats again. Luckily re-entry was allowed in this case. We went on a Monday afternoon, so this may be due to the timing in the day but if you are expecting a place with many playful cats this may not be the place. Especially if multiple people are present you may be having to vie for attention from a few cats. However, if you are willing to move around and make your own fun and are okay with seeing cats acting in a way that is more consistent with how they would be in a normal home environment than you would have a great time, this environment is truly perfect for those looking to adopt for that reason! I appreciate the mission of Katys Cat cafe and glad I could support.
