Food was ok. The place is just so dirty. Like gross dirty. Grout grime, flotsam and jetsam all over the floor, black mold sprinkles. The restrooms are grim, I regret having to use them. You always wonder what the kitchen looks like when the restrooms are that bad. The coffee was great. Sadly I was never offered a refill, while I heard refills being offered to those all around me. We stopped in around 11:30 and walked right in. It is relatively small but we had no problems being seated. Service was quick. I went with a breakfast special and my wife had a BLT. Portions were large and after seeing my wife's BLT, the ones we make at home seemed so inadequate. I would recommend the Blue Dolphin Cafe. read more

Perfect place to tuck in for breakfast on a cold and windy Florida day. It as a weekday, do not busy. We got a table right away. The service was nice and very attentive. We both got omelets and they were delicious and big! Lots of ingredients, including sausage. My husband got the breakfast potatoes and they were fresh and crisp on the outside and very good (I am not a potato eater, so that is a high compliment for me!). The grits were good, as well. We were looking for a breakfast before hitting Lido Beach and ended up in the Blue Dolphin. Place was almost full but we managed to get a booth just before they started taking names for a waiting list. The breakfast menu is standard fare, to be conservative we stuck to the Blue Dolphin special - 2 eggs, 2 pancakes, bacon and home fries. A young man was working the booths and he kept busy taking orders, delivering food and refilling coffee cups. Breakfast came out quickly and it was good. We finished and vacated as the line was growing outside....decent place if you're in St Armand's circle - it's a solid breakfast spot. read more

We walked into the Blue Dolphin on a Saturday, and it seemed like the perfect spot for brunch. We were seated right away at a booth (for a party of two). The waiter was quick to take our orders. We got corned beef hash, fruit, blueberry pancakes and a breakfast wrap/burrito with home fries. The blueberry pancakes were fantastic! We ate every bite. No crumbs left. The corned beef hash was just okay. It needed to be crisped up a little more. This dish needed improvement. The home fries were perfectly crispy and delicious. The breakfast burrito was solid, and I added some hot sauce to give it an extra kick. We were happy with our meal! It was a good brunch and just what we wanted to start the beach day. Hubby and I visited the cafe on Longboat Key before. They opened another one here at St Armand's Circle. Here, the cafe is a lot smaller. We figured, why not try it? We came here twice for breakfast. We shared the Lox and bagel platter on the first day, plus two eggs and a fruit plate. On the second day, I had the Huevos rancheros, and Hubby had eggs and ham. The breakfast was good, but we both thought the lox and bagel were a joke because of how small the lox was served with the bagel. My Huevos rancheros were ok but lacked some ingredients, such as salsa. However, the overall experience wasn't bad; it was not what we expected compared to the original Blue Dolphins cafe. A friendly place I stopped in this morning for breakfast, early enough so it was not super busy. They have a lunch counter as well as other seating. I was by myself and took a seat at the counter. It was a good spot for me, I could even see around inside where they did their cooking. The staff was friendly and interacted happily with a few regulars. The food was ready quickly and service was on point. I like that they drop off the check when they drop off the food, makes the paying and leaving part go smoothly. For breakfast I had their Homemade Corned Beef Hash, a generous amount of hash, a couple of eggs, and what they call home fries. The food missed the mark just a little to me, still good but not great. The hash was definitely homemade with good color and texture. To me it was lacking some flavor. As for the eggs, they were overcooked. I don't know whether I didn't communicate well with my server or if it was a cooking issue. As for the potatoes, they were large cubes and unseasoned. Better than what I experienced for my previous review, but not better than you can find elsewhere. read more

You know that any 5 star joint is special. Well, this place has a potential to be a 5-star joint. But it is actually fine the way it is. The decor is nothing special- blue vinyl seats and regular chrome metal diners' decor. To me, decor is not why I would choose a place. Make no mistake, Its always the food first. I've come here 3 times now. Probably again tomorrow for breakfast. Now I know the food menu pretty well, I will definitely go with their omelette or NY style bagel dishes. The first time I was here in October 2020, I tried the Huevos Rancheros. It was a bit different than the ones that I am used to. It was more like an omelette, rather than fried eggs on top of nachos. Bit different but it was still good, nonetheless. Fast forward to today, I had the lox platter, and my honey had the Western omelette. Both satisfying in terms of quality and quantity. If you close your eyes, and have the food, you might think that you are in a deli in NYC. Just like a NYC deli, the coffee is hot and plentiful but the taste is like a typical deli Folgers or Maxwell House. Its no Starbucks. But again, I am not here for coffee. While staying about 2 blocks away from St. Armand's Circle there weren't too many options open for breakfast in that area honestly. I choose one close by and a place that was open already. Figuring there were limited options and that it was Sunday, we decided to go early to get a seat and not have to wait. The place is small and an old diner system, which was perfectly fine and it was a good idea we went early as they were already almost full and people kept coming and many had to turn around due to no seating. The menu was pretty typical for breakfast but I do have to do that it was on the expensive side for what the selections were. I pay more for a good brunch but the menu items call for higher pricing. Almost $14.00 for two eggs, sausage, homefries and a coffee is a little much, especially when the homefries were very large in size and not something I would consider a "breakfast" item. They were more like something I would serve as a side dish with dinner. Neither of us touched our because they were too big and not cooked all the way in the middle. My over easy eggs were also over medium. Customer service we good and they checked on us often however. read more

Blue Dolphin had good reviews and we knew we had to try it out. We arrived around 9am on Monday. St. Armands Circle was quiet. Plenty of parking. Blue Dolphin had a few people sitting around. We were seated and our server was around quick. I ordered a coffee and my wife got orange juice. Looking over the menu, there is a bit of something for everyone. Plenty of egg dishes, omelets, griddle favorites such as pancakes, waffles and a myriad of side dishes that covers all bases. I had a tough time choosing what I wanted. My wife went with the Blue Dolphin Special. 2 eggs, two pancakes, two strips of bacon and home fries. $10. Can't beat that. I went with the traditional eggs benedict. This is one of my favorite breakfast meals. It also comes with home fries and a bowl of fresh fruit. The food was up quick. My eggs benedict was placed in a serving dish to keep the hollandaise and runny yokes from covering my plate. I was thankful for that. The English muffins laid the groundwork for the poached eggs and Canadian bacon. The eggs were runny on the inside. The hollandaise was ample and seasoned well with a slight lemony taste to it. Everything worked well together on the messy side. The English muffins sopped up the yolks and sauce, catching all the flavor. The home fries were really good, especially with some ketchup. These were small chunks of whole potato, well seasoned and crisped in a skillet. Not deep fried. The side fruit was fresh and added a sweet component to my meal. My wife enjoyed her breakfast. She had the eggs scrambled, the bacon crispy. She had the same home fries and the two fluffy pancakes were sweet and were excellent with syrup on them. This was a quick breakfast but one we enjoyed. If you're looking for a low-key, filling and tasty breakfast that doesn't cost an arm and a leg, check out the Blue Dolphin Café. read more

Looking for a breakfast place and this had pretty good reviews. They had limited seating but we were not in a hurry. Lots of breakfast and lunch classics. Great diner feel. I landed on the homemade corned beef hash with a couple of over easy eggs. I thought the portion would be a little bigger but what I had was pretty tasty. Deb had sausage gravy and a biscuit. Gravy was great but biscuits where dry. Even covered with the gravy they were tough to eat. Love to see everyone getting back out and will make another stop in jere in the future read more
